Check your bill before paying. The last time we were charged for a whole bottle of wine instead of a small glass. We had to ask to see the bill before paying, which felt very sneaky. The only reason we asked to see the breakdown was because we had a warning from some friends who have been charged extra recently. Seems like it's happening too many times for it to be innocent, which is a shame because the food is great, and a really nice atmosphere.

We had a very large order, for 15 people, delivered to a property we were renting for the weekend. It was about 24 miles away from the actual restaurant but we'd been informed by the property that Red Indigo had made deliveries there in the past. Messaged the restaurant a couple of weeks beforehand to get the menu, then placed the order a few days before. The food arrived on time, and still tasted fresh and hot....even the chips! Delicious! Thank you

A little gem of a find. Looking for somewhere to eat for an evening meal in Hay, i was surprised to find we didn't have to book (for only 2). Upon arrival we were greeted promptly, and friendly. We ordered poppadoms (we got an extra one free), with dips, -delicious, the wine was good value, the meal came quickly, all very hot and sizzling. The staff were friendly throughout and were not intrusive. Altogether a lovely meal and great value. Thoroughly recommended.

Highly disappointing restaurant Staff seems to be polite yet overwhelmed with the amount of people they had so the service was exceptionally slow . That's not really a concern though . The food is where iam putting my first review ever for any restaurant around the world . Highly misleading and worst bangladesi attempt to cook north western Indian frontier cuisine . Every thing mentioned is iconic but done in the worst manner where the chefs have no clue what that dish actually is . Being grown up in Delhi and living in london over the years I was not expecting much but this was below beer and Highly disgraceful. Half baked tandoori Roties . Chicken balti . Balti sauce is iconic rich tomato based with high content of kasuri methi . It was like a indo chinnese tangra balti instead with sugar and worst gravy with cornflour . Paneer saag . My days stopping calling it that . Sugar and 70 % coconut dedicated and 10 % spinach . It was a laugh. Lol why They had no clue and I don't blame them that's too much of bangladesi influence on north Indian food . They can surely do better . I'll suggest the boss to visit some icons around in uk like potli in london .dhishoom gun powder and all . There always time to learn n improve.

Not many places to eat at 8 pm in Hay. Suggested by the Tapas bar as they had finished serving. We had been to a talk in the castle and wanted a little to eat. We did ask for a starter portion with keema nan and poppadoms, as it was late and we only wanted a light bite, but were told we had to have a main. The staff were pleasant but busy. The food was delicious but I left half. The atmosphere was okay. Prices are not too bad.

We had currently been before during covid, the experience was the worst then we actually walked out, we gave it the benefit of doubt as the staff said the main chief was of ill. Back to tonight, I ordered chicken tika massalla, the chicken was dry and without flavour, the massalla sauce was so sweet and packing the true massalla flavours ( awful). Then my husband had Lamb tika Madras, this was as tough as old boots, basically they've thrown the lamb in the same massalla sauce as the chicken , awful, the madras was none existent just the same dros as dished up with the chicken. No spice in the sauce or flavour to the big lumps of tough lamb. I won't waste my time explaining about the half cooked Nam bread. Cold re heated chips. Enough said, if we had been served this in the restaurant and not had a take away we would have left without paying. Rant over.

Wasn't confident about going here after reading a few bad reviews but couldn't have been more delighted at a really lovely meal. I like a curry, and I thought it was the best curry I have had in a long time. Unlike a lot of places, it tasted really fresh and delicious, and the chicken in the sauce was juicy rather than dry as it is in most places. Best of all it wasn't packed full of salt, leaving you parched and thirsty all evening. To top it off, the staff were really warm and welcoming. Wonderful place, highly recommend it.

The restaurant looked lovely. However, when we sat down, seats weren't comfortable, and some of it was ripped. The toilets were freezing cold and needed doing up, including the gents. Even my husband complained how cold the toilets were. The food was ok, but I had the lamb dish which wasn't cooked properly chewy. Chicken was too soft, not sure if it was under done, as we both had bad stomachs the next day. The service was excellent and friendly but they need to improve on their flavours, cook better and maybe get new furniture in, including sorting out the toilets. Shame only one curry house in the Town.

A very disappointing pickle tray with rather bland chilli pickle and mango chutney. But the main course was even worse. My lamb was burnt and when I mentioned it to the waiter he replied that this was to be expected when it was a sizzler. What nonsense. The end result is that they knocked £2 off my bill. We stayed near Hay for a week and often like to get an Indian takeaway while on holiday. We were a bit uncertain whether or not to go ahead, based on the very mixed reviews that Red Indigo receives, but gave it a try in the end. The food quality was ok, in terms of containing plenty of large chunks of meat, onions, peppers etc, but we would definitely agree with other reviewers that the sauces were a bit thin, bland and lacking in any real Indian flavour or spice. Normally I would keep the leftovers and eat it up the next day, but didn’t bother this time. Not awful, but not the best either.

The food was bland as others have commented. It’s quite difficult to cook bland Indian food so we were quite mystified. My chicken dopiaza was sickly sweet. The meat was dry, like it had been pre-cooked and then heated up. Me wife’s veg jalfrezi was like stewed vegetables with no spiciness. The poppadoms, peshwari naan and pilau rice were nice. To summarise in one word, dispointing! We as a group of 8 arrived promptly on time (18:30 on a Saturday) and had to make our way to our table. We then had an half hour wait until our drinks/dinner order was taken. We tried to attract the attention of staff but was ignored. We all ordered mains with sides which took over an hour and fifteen minutes to arrive. The food was mediocre and had clearly been sat under a heat lamp for some time. We didn't dare order dessert or more drinks due to the long wait. The manager even had the cheek when we asked for the billed that 'if we aren't in a rush we can wait for a waitress'. For one round of drinks and a main with sides took 2.5 hours. I rarely give places one star, however they really need a wake up call. We could have easily spent twice as much if the service was present. This was honestly the low point of our visit to Herefordshire.

The food we had was poor, nothing like Indian food. There was an over- reliance on garlic and nothing else in the lentil dish. The Chicken Tikka Masala was served in a beetroot purée and without cumin, coriander etc that give Indian food its flavour. The Pilau rice had no onions or cardamom pods, just yellow rice. The vegetable curry that accompanied the Biriani had a really strange flavour, unlike anything I recognised. Even chilli seemed to be off the menu. I love making these dishes at home so was really disappointed tonight.

Last time we ate here (a couple of years ago) it was really good, hence going back there when we were in Hay yesterday. Unfortunately it wasn't the same tasty experience, food was very disappointing, edible but definitely not up to a good Indian meal standard. Very strange textures and lacking in any real flavour. It almost felt like the dishes were not freshly cooked and not even proper fresh Indian flavours but like a jar paste of tikka sauce that wasn't even mixed properly. Like I said it was edible (just) and if we were not so hungry, think I would have sent the dishes back. Best part of the meal was the naan bread and the half pint of Cobra. Don't think we would go back again which is a shame, though maybe we caught the chef on an off day??

If you are used to London’s “Indian fine dining” scene then you may find this restaurant wanting. However, be reminded this is Hay-on-Wye and all things considered this is not bad at all. Dishes are hit and miss so choose carefully. For starters the Tandoori Mixed Starter was good (3.5/5), and the samosa crispy (3/5), suggest having these both with the mint yoghurt dip which adds another dimension to the flavours. For mains the Lamb Karahi with the fluffy and flavoursome garlic naan is a good option (4/5). Saag paneer does have a milder flavour but still ok (3/5). I would steer clear of the Tarka Daal - normally a firm favourite of mine, but this dish is as bland as it gets. Drinks were also disappointing with coke being flatter than a pancake. On a positive note, none of the dishes were oily, social distancing was good and the staff were polite and service prompt.

DON'T EAT HERE IF YOU HAVE ANY ALLERGY. ( I have a nut allergy) I would rate no stars. Three of us went to this restaurant. As soon as we sat down we said that one of us has a nut allergy and stated it was all nuts. The waitor took our order and said that all of our curried what we ordered didn't have nuts in. When the food arrived my curry smelt slightly nutty and creamier than what I would normally get at home. I asked the waitor if it had nuts in and he replied no no nuts. Then just after the manager came over and said that my curry did have almond poweer in. They were very casual and said it was a mistake. And he told the others to 'enjoy' that nut curry while he made one without nuts (which I was still reluctant to eat). Luckily I hadn't eaten any of it as I would have gone into a full anaphylaxis shock. The restaurant didn't seem to think this was a big issue, we still had to pay full for our full meal until last minute when he said he'd knock that curry off the bill. If I ate this curry it could have killed me. Awful service and no formal apology.

Absolutely amazing food. By far, the best Indian I have eaten. The gentleman there is very nice and accommodating.

Forced here as others fully booked and we are not Indian food experienced eaters. We did have a friend with us with that experience and he stated food was excellent. My wife's omelette was a little rubbery. The night seemed unexpectedly busy but they fitted us in. My shandy had a strange taste to it, which I did not challenge and could have been down to the lager type but I don't know. Still recommend them as other dishes were very good.

Shocking service. Sat down for 40 minutes in an empty restaurant and only had drinks order taken. Staff were too busy taking phone orders and left us ignored at the table. Left and went somewhere else, didnt even get an apology for the lack of service when we left.

AVOID!!!! We waited an hour and a half before we got served our food , I actually watched as the cooks run through the door late , there was no communication or apology. The business is run by clowns.

Very comprehensive menu, excellent food. All three courses very good, with friendly and efficient service. We ate in and although the ex-public house vibe is strong it does not detract from the quality of the meal. Definitely recommended

Called for a takeaway whilst holidaying in the area. There’s plenty to choose from on the menu & the food was fresh & cooked well. 100% recommended. It’s just a shame you can’t order & pay online to collect.

We went to Tiffin again tonight, we're fairly regular visitors, and Abdul the owner is great, always makes us feel welcome... Thank You Abdul 😊 My dad has no teeth, Abdul does his best to accommodate, my dad's meal, Aloo Chat with the onion well cooked and the potato cut smaller than normal, he pulls out all the stops to give us the best possible family experience 😊 Tonight Abdul provided candles for my mum's birthday cake, we forgot the candles 🙈 Abdul also agreed to provide me with some of my favourite chicken spring rolls, as a take-away, to cook at home, so I'll have a wonderful snack for the next few days (they're nicer than any others I've found) 😊 He also gave my parents 2 smart looking Cobra Pint glasses as a wedding anniversary gift, it's they're 41st wedding anniversary today so this was a joint 66th Birthday and 41st Wedding Anniversary celebration, they'll treasure them, as a memory of their anniversary 😊 I look forward to my next meal, I keep trying something new, and I'm never disappointed 😁

We went here 'dining in' a couple of months ago and found the food too sweet. On talking to manager I asked if we came again could they reduce sugar. He said the welsh loved the food sweet but they could reduce sugar for us. So tonight we get a takeaway asking for less sugar in korma and pasanda and it was so sweet it was unbelievable! Will not be ordering there again unfortunately .
