Rice-N-Spice in Powys

We went here 'dining in' a couple of months ago and found the food too sweet. On talking to manager I asked if we came again could they reduce sugar. He said the welsh loved the food sweet but they could reduce sugar for us. So tonight we get a takeaway asking for less sugar in korma and pasanda and it was so sweet it was unbelievable! Will not be ordering there again unfortunately .

Food so sweet despite asking for less sugar as dining in once too sugary. Again so disappointed as sugar wasn't reduced at our request. Most of it went in the bin. Will not be eating here again. Manager stated the welsh love sweet food when we dined in first time! Healthy eating obviously not a priority!

Terrible takeaway. We went here for our Saturday night takeaway because it was previously very nice food. Our experience on this occasion was horrible curry, stodgy naan and the worst poppadoms, which smelt and tasted of stale oil/grease! They were not the standard that you’d expect from an Indian cuisine restaurant. The Patak’s poppadoms are better quality. We will not order from here again. Disgusting food.

Don't normally give reviews, but have to say ,having been going to rice and spice for many yrs and the food has always be delicious that my experience Saturday was very poor, waited 15 minutes past the time l telephoned for and unfortunately the chicken tikka starter was overdone and the garlic naan bread was so burnt it was uneatable, so sorry to give this review as l have had lovely meals from there in the past,

First time trying this place, hands down best curry I had, definitely ordering again

Lots of very wet and oily sauce, very little meat. Not a good curry or worth the money. They don’t tell you on the phone they only take cash. Despite having their takeaway menus in the shop, the set meal for 4 will set you back £82 not the £60 odd on the menu as they try to insist on pricing it all up as individual items. Didn’t get food poisoning, hence the 2 stars. Total rip off.

Chicken pathia and chicken tikka massasla always amazing

Very disappointed with my take out meal. Normally love the food. I ordered chicken Madras. Firstly. The carton wasn't secured properly so all the sauce was in the bag. Too mild for Madras. Had tiny strips of fried( could have been chicken, but really didn't taste much like) should be chunks. Hugely disappointed

Called in Sunday evening, never been here before as visiting Wales. Excellent food, starters prawn on Puru and onion bhaji, chicken tika and chicken tika masala, garlic nan and pilau rice. All food was excellent and the nan was the best I've ever tasted

Was greeted warmly very friendly excellent waitress and food

Not your normal curry house..no atmosphere music etc..just like takeaway tables..ordered two bottles of Cobra..served warm..when my husband mentioned it..to have the answer....Well they have been in the fridge...paid for our starters and two beers...which was very over priced and left...won't be returning..

Had food from this place and I’ve been bad since Friday and still bad today and found a white strand of hair as well

The food is nice and you can sit in to eat. The menu is in small writing and can be hard to read in the low lighting that they use.

We have had several takeout's and last night all 3 were delighted with our choices. As usual very good service and only 15mins wait for mains. Outstanding and well recommended.

Cracking little inidian khalid and the team are frendly and make the experience great , food is excellent and freshly made to order even accomadate changes to the dish etc. ! Best inidan in the area hands down ! Place does get busy and sonetimes you can expect a delay for a takaway but its always worth the extra wait ! Worked all over the uk and ireland for 18+ years and again hands down one of the best experiences i have had

One of the worst overpriced curries Iv had in the uk. To be honest with this quality of food I wonder who keeps them in business. The curry was oversweetened (with sugar) to mask the ordinary taste of spices. We ordered 3 dishes which tasted the same. In addition they had put in artifical colouring to make the food look enticing. My fingers and nails were stained yellow which didnt go away even after thoroughly washing it with soap and water. This is not indian food at all. Better travelling a bit more to get better food elsewhere. Zero stars if I could.

Every time here has been a wonderful experience. If you can, please get to know Khaled and his team and works. The food is brilliant and they've always been very helpful if a request is not on the menu. Brilliant service and genuinely lovely quality. Thank you so much.

On holiday in the area and saw menu in the accommodation. OK food, good portions but very late at the pick-up. Instead of 40 minutes or was over an hour and how was I supposed to know they only take cash? Very hungry and angry family when I got home 25 minutes later than expected. In a COVID environment surely contactless is the default? Really should put this on the website and tell people when they order. Am sure HMRC are interested too.

This has to be the worst Indian takeaway I have ever had and I have been eating Indian food for over 40 years. It tasted as though it consisted of a tin of tomatoes, a jar of passata and, except for a little ring of pepper, two little rings of onion and some chillies that was it. I threw half of it in the kitchen recycling bin, unheard of for me. Also, although it states that they take cards.....they don't. I shall stick to my usual restaurant from now on.

Food tastes amazing can't fault it but put off ordering as the experience with the waiting time even after ordering on the phone and told to come down in an hour and still waiting an hour for food on arrival put me off ordering food with them but I might just be inpatient then getting home to some of the food missing but is the best curry I have tasted around ystrad and surrounding areas

This is the mother of all great Indian restaurants, both sit in meals and take away meals are excellent and the staff are friendly as well, if you enjoy Indian food I highly recommend you give it a try

Asked if I order the food now for pick up in an hour and they said yes we can do that, just collected my food and it is stone cold. First time using Rice & spice and will definitely be last. Disappointing!

Meal nice, service terrible waited 1hr45 mins for meal, no social distancing. I can except a delay but this is the second time I’ve used this restaurant with exactly the same problem.

Food was great...however, ordered at 7.15, told ready by 8.00, recieved at 9.05..long queues outside.

Phoned to see if my order was ready, was told he is. Entered the shop to pick up, said it was going to be 2 minutes. Waiting 55 minutes with 6 other people in a very small space while everyone was waiting for food. No two metres apart everyone touching out surfaces etc. Will he reporting

Always lovely food when I have ordered from here great friendly service from staff and always fast cooking the food. Every time I have placed an order they have had my order ready for me at the time they give me to go collect it. No complaints from me

Booked for 6 o'clock pick up at 10 past 5, wasn't ready until 6:30 with no apology and dismissive staff, and was given wrong meal, the other 3 meals were bland and tasteless. Won't be using them again.

I experienced an appalling waiting time for a takeaway. Placed an order at 6:15 and told to collect it in 30 mins. I arrived at 6:45 only to wait a further 45 minutes before receiving my order. Other people came and went, I sat and waited, with no updates, having to go up and ask. By the time I received my order, I had lost interest in wanting food, I just wanted to get home. Tip to the establishment, only take orders you can fulfil if you are busy and set realistic waiting times, if you want me to come collect in an hour, then tell me an hour. From a previous visit I was given the wrong order too. I think it might be time to find a new takeaway.

Lovely food take away and restaurant but only 4 stars as a restaurant slightly cramped and has a fantastic reputation as a take away so always people back and forth.

If you are going to order a takeaway you will need to add at least 45 minutes onto the collection time they give you. Worst service I’ve received from an Indian takeaway 😡😡

Called in here really late on news years Day but they were still more than happy to make our food to takeaway and as usual the food was first to none can't recommend this Indian enough tbh

On holiday in this little town. Looks can be deceiving and this is definitely the case in this little restaurant/takeaway. Highly recommended after our visit eating in. Curries were amazing that we had. It would be our local curry place to go if we lived here. Nice friendly waiter too. :)

Lush food perfect potion size not ate in but collected and so cosey

After having a take away from Rice-N-Spice our 6 year old son said he wanted to go there for food 2 days later. So we did and the food and service were excellent. We would all recommend this place to all that we know.

Collected 3 takeaway meals to eat at home. Delicious food. Hope to return soon. Am lucky to live close to such a lovely Indian restaurant. If you havent tried it yet, please do. And when you do, please take the time to write a review.

Been a loyal customer for over 11 years to Khalid . I've since moved away from the village and I still make it up her a few times a year which is over 20+ miles for me... But still so worth it...

Very good meal. I would have given a 5* but my naan was a bit overdone.

Fantastic food and friendly service

Having never been to Rice-n-spice we decided to give it a try. We wanted a takeaway, turned up to a dark restaurant which didn’t look open but was. Not very busy our order was taken straight away. The menu offer says 15% off takeaway, not sure if this was applied, you might want to work out the cost with this when you order to ensure it has been. It was nice to hear our order being made from scratch. Not impressed with the size of the side orders tbh. Bombay potato with 4 halves of potatoes, 1 potato really, paneer side with 2 cubes of cheese, would of hoped for a little more, not sure if you’d get more if eating in. Main dishes were tasty, but too oily for my personal taste but didn’t take from the flavour. Garlic nann could have done with a bit more garlic. Overall tasty, somewhat worth the value for money. Would try again.

Eaten at this restaurant many times, meals are always superb and the staff are always very friendly, probably the best curry house in the upper Swansea Valley.

Good take away curry while staying at local lodge. Recommended.

The worst place I had food until now. From the reserved table for 10 people who wasn't there we received two separated tables, the high chair for baby requested when the reservation was made and they confirmed but they didn't had, the time we had to wait for the food, 1h30 to be served the starters, the quality of the food was not the expected neither for the price we paid. This is a place I will not go back for sure.

I'm unsure why there are no reviews on this place yet as it was rammed and the food was spot on. My partner and I eat alot if curry out and have travelled from Birmingham where you can get an amazing curry! To be honest, we wernt expecting much here as there were no reviews but we thought we would give it a shot and were not dissapointed. We had garlic chilli chicken, lamb korai, karma naan, mushroom rice and by far the best paneer aloo side dish we have ever had. The food was faultless and service was great. Give it a go!!

Lovely food, very welcoming and actually seem to value your custom. AND my takeaway was ready on time which is unusual around this area.

Khaled, the owner, is one of the most hospitable and welcoming hosts around. His goodwill is never ending, often rounding down your bill so you have a discount, and throwing in an extra poppadom. The food is delicious and certainly tastes authentic.

Great food, haven't had a bad meal there. However, know that when you phone for a takeaway and they say it'll be 20minutes, you can at least double that.

Don't let the rundown appearance put you off. The food is wonderful, the service top class . The waiter is a shining example of professionalism. I just wish we lived closer as this would be our favourite place to eat.
