Amazing food. I always come here while on holiday there’s no other place that even comes close to this. I wish this place was by where I live 5* keep up the good work guys 👍

The lamb was excellent! And so were the onion bhajis. We visited on a Tuesday night, so it was very quiet.

Honestly the best Indian food I have ever tried and at a really good price. I come here when stopping at a nearby holiday park ( 3 times this year ) and always come here as in my opinion the food is the best around keep up the good work lads see you next year 👍

Great Indian food - very rare that we would eat in the same place twice on one trip but we did here! The exterior and decor does not quite match the standard of the food so don’t judge the place based on that. Everything we tried was really good!

Really enjoyed, it was early evening, service was good, had 3 dishes, good portions, tasted good, naans were the best. Will be going again.

Ordered online for a takeaway for collection, received an email confirmation with a different time to what was requested, we put this down to the restaurant being possibly busy. On return home, we noticed that we received different items to what was ordered so we contacted the restaurant to let them know, the staff who answered the phone repeatedly told me “no” and that what we received was correct. I ordered two different starters and a chicken tikka massala, however received two portions of onion bhajis and a different curry. The staff member kept telling me I was wrong, however my confirmation email receipt clearly states a sheek and shami kebab starters. I would have been ok with onion bhajis however customer service was not evident from this restaurant and came across rude. Unhappy with the customer service but overall curry was ok. Not the best but not the worst.

Got a nice and simple order of Madras and Masala. Can't really go wrong and they were both decent. I ordered for collection at a specific time and it was ready bang on when I arrived which is always good.

came here for dinner, we had 6 different dishes and each was unique, not based on a common gravy. all the meat dishes were exactly that...MEAT, no looking to find the meat amongst a capsicum/ onion/ veg filled dish here. the flavours were exquisite and no arificial colours or sugar anywhere, even the house red & white wines were top ! All in all a great experience, we will definately be going back. 5 stars !

We ordered a take away for three people and it was ready as soon as we arrived. The mushroom rice, lemon rice and all curry dishes were absolutely delicious 😋 we had a variety of veggie and meat meals and I can honestly say it was the best curry I've ever had (I'm 54!) Well done Raj mahal !! 👏

Walked past the Raj Mahal when wandering round Llanidloes earlier today, smelt so good that we abandoned our planned caravan tea and ordered takeaway for collection later on. Website menu is different and smaller than that advertised at the premises but still a good array. A little milder in spice than our regular Indian at home but very tasty, lovely chunks of chicken tikka in my dopiaza. Husband thoroughly enjoyed his special jalfrezi but again said it was on the milder side but that's ok. Order was ready at stated pick up time and was hot and plentiful. Would use again when staying at Red Kite, unlike Evans fish bar which was very overrated.

Very helpful people, good advice about the food. It was a pleasure to be here and eat the nicest indian meal since i am in England. Thank you so much.

Great food... Will definitely go again

Tried to charge higher price than stated on the menu because they've put their prices up but waiting for new menus to be printed. Only explained this when I queried an item on the bill. Had to insist this wasn't OK to get the additional charges removed.

Shambolic service. First and last time visiting this restaurant. Arrived at 7pm no one to take order until 20 mins later. Bust restaurant with people waiting almost two hours for their food. I was with my kids who were really hungry and we were then forced to leave at 8.30pm as we still had not been served. Additionally the customer service was appalling with no eye contact made by staff to even apologise for delay. It has to be the worst service experienced to date. The food maybe great but based on today I definitely have had my trip to Wales spoilt!

Well what can I say, one of the worst restaurant experiences I’ve had. 2 tables before us. Soon filled up. Wrong drinks wrong starter and still no main after 1.5hrs. 3 tables up and walked out after an hour of only popadoms and pickles the big tables only had their mains after 2hrs. Couple had ordered takeaway demanding money back as order wasn’t ready after 45mins. 2 staff even chef kept coming out. And they all kept saying it’s coming it’s coming. Avoid at all Cost:

Saturday night saw a busy restaurant and takeaway with some large orders going out. All food was seemingly cooked fresh to order which meant it took a bit longer but was pleasing to see and what arrived was some of the nicest Indian food we’ve had anywhere.

Excellent food and service. Extremely tasty, one of the best curries we’ve had. I can recommend the Raj Special in particular.

Absolutely amazing Indian takeaway. Unbelievably tasty - we ordered the chicken bhuna, butter chicken and a North Indian garlic lamb. All of it was mouthwatering- we were staying in an Airbnb but if this wasn’t 3 hours away from us we’d be in every week! The staff are amazingly friendly, super professional and just lovely. Honestly 5 stars ⭐️ all round here!

went here tonight around 5pm also closed like the goe restaurant around the corner ? went back with fish and chips to my caravan i wish they both would change there opening times.

Had a take away after 2 years plus because the last time wasn't great .decided to give them another try .minted lamb dish was dreadful .grey didn't even look like a curry just like they had emptied a jar of mint sauce over some tough lamb .the chicken dish although was tasty .won't be ordering again any time soon .

Slow cold food wrong spices in dishes

My partner and I not long moved to Llanidloes and we have eaten at this Indian restaurant almost every weekend. It has never disappointed!, the food has great flavours and is delicious, the cook is fab!. The manager is a great host and works so hard. We look forward to our visit every time.

We called in for a catch up with friends and what a mistake to book the Raz Mahal the food was dreadful and the chicken was so tough it must have been cooked about 4 days previously no wonder we were the only 4 in there !! would not return.

Very tasty food at a very competitive price

We went during a really hot week so maybe people were avoiding this place preferring to sit outside however they were missing out! The food very top notch and the service was very good, the waiters were friendly and happy to chat. We had the Wednesday 'feast' and got a huge amount of food for the money, really impressed.

Good food, great portion size. My Madras was hot, unlike the increasing number I discover to have been dumbed down, but not as tasty as some. Rice and sides good too. It's a tough time for restaurants at the moment so support them. This one is like getting a two for one, refried curry with bacon and egg is the best breakfast there is and the potion sizes make it easy to have!

food was not the best but ok. as for the man in charge he was very rude.argued my plate wasn't dirty when i asked for a clean one.swearing in front of us.rude to his staff who ended up walking out. when we paid i told him i didn't appreciate him swearing ,all he had to say was 'ok'.no appology. really would not reccomend this place to anyone.

Me and 8 of my friends visited the Raj for my 40th birthday and was so glad we booked, the place was very busy but I can understand why, the food, drinks and service was brilliant. Would definitely recommend.

My wife and I came for dinner here a couple of times this week. I had a dish called Murghi Bahar with extra Chillies on one night and Lamb Madras on the next night, my wife had Chicken Shashlik on one night and Chicken Tikka...

Keep your expectations to a minimum. If you're in a rush or want a quick meal out, do not go here! They are severely under-staffed with the manager not allowing his one other member of staff to take orders, sit guests, answer the phone or deliver food. He was so busy running about like a headless chicken, as he wouldn't allow his staff to help. This then made him very short with both customers and staff. When taking our order (which was finally taken over 45 mins after we were seated) he was really rushing us and saying "hurry up I thought you were ready". We then waited a further 1 hour and 15 mins for our food to arrive. The food was okay but not the best Indian I've had. However for the price of what we paid I felt the food matched as it was very well priced. I wouldn't say avoid going here, but just do not expect the best Indian experience at all.

Great curry. Nice people. We particularly liked the fact that the menu includes combination selections for c main course, so you can have half and half of your favourite dishes but pay for one main course. Upstairs in the middle of Royal Oak Street with a car park behind our some on street car parking. Ok for kids.

We visited here whilst staying in a lodge close by. Really enjoyed the food. Love the idea of combination dishes it's like a 2 for 1 at a reasonable price. Was strange how no red onions with the poppadoms amd no vinegar but that was put personal preference. A must visit. And the staff s really friendly.

Just the most amazing Indian food. We’re always on the hunt for good veggie food, new to the area and I can honestly say, from everywhere we’ve lived, this is the best Indian food we’ve had. The selection is tantalising, every dish so tasty! Tried every dish and couldn’t be happier. Super friendly, helped me take the box down to the car, even gave me a tip on a good dish from the restaurant across the road! Repeat customer assured! :)

I had been told it was really good, so was disappointed, it was tasteless the sag was a bit light on the spinach, all three of of the mains were disappointing , and starters weren't much either unfortunately

Came here on a camping stop over for a few nights. Though we would try a curry and this place was amazing it was early about 5:45pm when we arrived it was quiet but the service and the food was amazing would recommend.

We went here on a whim, and were not disappointed we did, greeted by friendly staff, seated quickly and drink order taken straight away, popadoms came quickly with a selection of chutneys. Then food orders taken and served promptly, the place is busy with takeaways...

So so,food medioca, empty restaurant but staff feel the need to suffocate everyone into one corner of the place.

Great meal with family and friends

Had the most frightening experience! As some dishes were unfortunately cold we were discussing with the waiter which we knew,an aggressive, abusive and interfering male approach the table with a threatening manner. We walked out but the owners aloud this visitor to carry on abusing his local customers. This was truly a horrible experience having been to the restaurant several times without a bad meal.I'm pleased that the family with children had left and had not experienced this.Will not visit again out of principle as owner should have removed instigator.

My fiancé and I visited here on New Years Eve. We were ‘greeted’ by a quite scruffy looking man who grunted at us “you booked?”. The restaurant was over half empty and when we told the man that we hadn’t booked he sighed and signalled to a choice of two tables, one next to a large loud party with young children and another next to the bar. When my fiancé asked if we could sit at another empty table, the man very abruptly just said “no, you can’t sit there!” And then continued grumbling and mumbling about not having a booking.Following the rudeness of that man we decided that we did not want to eat there and left. It is unfortunate that this place is the only Indian restaurant in Llanidloes as I’m sure if they had some competition they would need to rethink their customer relations.

Service beyond slow .20 minutes before drinks order taken an hour and a half before starters arrived. Manic service with waiter shouting out to customers obviously stressed and under staffed .had I not been with friends would have walked out way before the mains arrived 2 hours after ordering .shan't be going again until things improve !! Food ok but not great .

The wife and I had a takeaway. We both enjoyed our meal. Well cooked and would recommend. Friendly staff.

We visited here as a party of 6. Food wasn’t great, very little meat in any of the dishes, and every one of us was ill the next day. One of our party got lost looking for the toilets and saw into the kitchen. He commented on the night that it looked filthy. Given how ill we all were it looks like he was right. One meal here ruined a short holiday for all of us. Staff were very rude too. Avoid!

Food was absolutely wonderful, but the older waiter needs to learn about customer service. He is very rude and obnoxious, takes away plates before people have finished, and has no manners at all..spoilt the whole experience. Was going to book for a works night out, wont be doing that now.

Been here 4 times now and although the sevice is a little slow at times it is well worth the short wait for your meal always good and the plates are always heated aswell.

Dined here with a friend whilst on s short stay in the area. Nicely decorated. Lovely friendly, on the ball staff. We could not fault anything. We had poppadoms with chutneys, onion bahjis, prawn purée, king prawn vindaloo, chicken pathia, pilau rice, chips and plain nan bread. The poppadoms, rice, bahjis and nan bread were all lovely and light. Great tasting curries too. Oh the cobra on draught was very nice too. Would highly recommend a visit if you love a curry. Will definitely visit again when next in the area.

Visited on Friday 13th () and called in on the off chance that there may be a table for 4 available . There seemed to be only two staff on duty answering the phone for take away orders and serving in the restaurant - they were rushed off their feet. The food was fabulous , hot, tasty and reasonably priced. Yes we had to wait a while but this didn’t matter - we had the Raj special starter , house special biryani served with vegetable curry , tandoori chicken, pilau rice, 2 peshwari naan, chicken biryani , chicken jalfrezi , 8 papadoms plus chutney , and 6 cobra beers ( plus a cola) and it was under £80 . The food was v tasty and portions were generous .

A disappointing curry house. The food was over-spiced with chilli powder instead of fresh chilli's, the poppadoms where store bought, and the rice was over cooked. The staff were nice enough but didn't appear to want to be there apart from one member of staff who was running around being more stressed than he needed to be as the place was nearly empty. The decor is very tierd and it had the feeling of a school dining room. Overall I was disappointed by everything but the Cobra beer!

We came here as a group of 5 on a Sunday night and we were very impressed with the quality of the food. We had 5 different dishes and several side dishes as well and everything was great. The sag paneer, bindi bhajee and chicken tikka jalfrezi were particularly tasty! Would definitely recommend this place.

We ate here last Saturday night and chose this over the other Indian restaurant in Llanidloes as this one had better reviews. Restaurant decor is nice and the dining area is spacious. Chicken chat starters were very nice so we looked forward to our mains - Murghi Bahar but were slightly disappointed, the sauce was tasty although a bit bland, there was little evidence of the minced lamb, the rice portions are small. My husband likes chips with his meal - they served up skinny fries! Waiting staff are attentive but not overly so, probably because they were quite busy. I would return but would order a different main course and skip the skinny fries

We ate here on our overnight stay walking Glyndwr's Way and it was superb! I am vegan and the staff bent over backwards for me. Food was excellent, perfectly deliciously spiced and not too oily. I had cauliflower bhaji and bhindi bhaji with rice and poppadums, and my husband loved his Chicken Balti with garlic naan bread and poppadums. Friendly helpful staff, stylish decor and spacious. Restaurant is upstairs and beautifully stylish and large after an unimposing downstairs entrance. Highly recommend!

Nice takeaway. I had the Raj special and was pleased with my choice, very tasty. They told me it would be 35 minutes and I waited an hour before i got my order. The guy (very curt) told me to pay and I'd already paid. I told him this and he asked another member of staff if I had, so obviously thought I was lying! Then when we got home we found the naan bread missing. Wouldn't go there again.

Restaurant quiet when we arrived, order taken and food served promptly. The meal was very tasty and served good and hot. However, the over attentive staff have put me off returning. Whilst I do think an 'is everything ok with your meal?" Is good manners, being interrupted numerous times is just plain rude.We had finished our poppadoms and 5 times we're asked if we had finished with the dips (we asked that they remain for our mains each time). We were asked if we wanted more drinks twice, waiters leaned across us to keep clearing dishes.I honestly felt as if they were running out of crockery and needed them desperately!I'm not sure if these guys were trying super hard or just bored.

Have been here for food alone as a couple or with work staff and each time the staff are so attentive and helpful. The food is spectacular served beautifully hot and so tasty. Am lucky to have this establishment so close to my home. Highly recommended

We have been here several times over the past year and it just keeps getting better & better. The staff are extremely friendly and the menu can be adapted/changed if you request something different. A very good meal for a good price and the staff could not do enough for us. We often have a family gathering here.They do special deals in the week, so it is worth checking them out.The portions are large and we never seem to finish everything.
