Being at the Reddoor cafe is like taking a time machine to a time where things were nice and simple, to the 70s in Carnaby Street, Piccadilly Circus or... well, Greenwich. It really is a hidden gem and it feels like the house of a hippie friend who likes to bake. The cakes are delicious indeed with plenty of vegan options, good selection of tea, very friendly staff. My partner's grandparents come to London every year and always ask to go back there for some afternoon cake and we love going back there!

Called on spec for a break in our sightseeing and so glad we did. The cafe is small but really a cool place with a semi-basement seating area to the rear and raised gallery above. The space is brilliantly maximised and there was great music playing. It all feels a bit "alternative" almost a throw back to the 60s or 70s. Staff were super-friendly and the cakes were fantastic

Had a lovely time visiting this little tucked away cafe in Greenwich. A beautiful range of locally baked cakes which are always changing make for a great addition to the well prepared drinks served. The owner is as eccentric and charming as the design of the cafe itself. Ask for the banana loaf with fresh banana and honey, just hope he’s got it in. Will definitely visit again

After stumbling across this cafe one afternoon with my aunts a couple of years ago, I always make a point to return whenever I’m in the area. It’s an amazing cafe just off the main market square with a fantastic “living room” atmosphere with quirky furniture, great music and lovely art on the walls. The stars are the friendly staff and the gorgeous food. The sandwiches are always fresh and warm. The teas are brewed at the correct temperature, so herbal teas always taste so much richer. Cakes are always tasty; my favourite so far is the vegan coconut and raspberry (you can’t tell it’s vegan!) My favourite spot to take a moment to chill out in busy Greenwich, and you should try it too! Bring your family, friends, significant other.. it’s perfect for all.

At first we were happy to be in this place as it's a tiny cute coffee that gave us the impression of welcoming place full of tasteful cakes. We brought our laptops with my friend however quickly the owner (I believe) told us that on the weekend we couldn't stay longer with the laptops as there were a lot of people. We ordered our beverages, the thick hot chocolate was really tasty. But we could feel that the owner was constantly checking on our table, eager that we move. Even with other customers, he seemed overstressed that he couldn't fit all the people coming. The other staff is nice though. Plus, we were sitting next to the cakes meaning each time they had to serve one, we needed to bend so they could grab the cakes. Finally, when paying the bill, we discovered that they only accept cash. The place seems lovely at first but the insistent and unfriendly behavior of the owner made it very disappointing. Greenwich has surely better to offer.

I read about this place as a friend who was visiting eats gluten free etc. I live in Greenwich so was excited to know a place like this existed. Yes the place is quirky but the bottom line is its too cramped. The service was poor and the waiting time rediculas the kItchen prepetition area dirty. I am sure if there was more space for seating to be comfortable, staff free to move around and a place to put the cakes without having to lean over customers .... it would have potential. I may give it another go when less tourists are around but until then not going back.

I live in Greenwich, and know the place pretty much like the back of my hand.....In Cafe culture, there exists the usual chain of unexciting 'cafes' in the centre of town; concentrated around the Cutty Sark and market areas. There are the expensive rip-off joints, aimed squarely at discerning tourists. Then, thankfully, there is The Red Door...The Red Door has an incredibly intimate vibe in many ways....Firstly, it is tucked away along an interesting yet somewhat overlooked 'lane' in the market area....Inside the café itself, the layout lends an intimate heir with nooks and crannies tucked away at the rear, and furniture decorated tastefully with cushions in ethnic and 'arts and crafts' style...This alongside the décor lends a cosy as well as distinctive 'Boho' feel to the place. The teas and coffees are served in mis-matching, charming and well-preserved vintage porcelain and china cups and saucers....The tea is sourced from fresh leave blends, and the pots in which the loose tea is brewed are objects of artisanal beauty.....The knowledgeable and charismatic owner Edward is an amazing host...He welcomes free banter amongst locals, tourists and all sorts of 'waifs and strays'....He is also welcoming of you choosing a record from his extensive and eclectic collection, and placing it on the turntable (providing you ask of course)...Don't expect swift and fast service here, if you do, Edward will be straight in advising you visit one of the chain-cafes...This is a place to relax, contemplate, and to soak up the wonderful relaxing vibe... What is more, it's teas are a bargain for the area...You will get for a pot for one (currently priced at £2.50) about 2-3 cups..They also have great and rare blends such as 'Russian Earl Grey' and 'The Tea with no Name'....The staff make fresh Panini's and sandwiches fresh to order.....Yet what for me is more enticing is a slice of home-made cake with my tea; or when available, one of their home-baked scones served with jam and clotted-cream...This is always generously filled....So folks, if you are not in a hurry, and have time to spare, the place to head for in Greenwich for tea is the fascinating bijou delight named 'The Red Door'....

I want to love independent cafes far more than the chains, I really do. On the other hand, some independent 'lifestyle' cafes can be rather tiresomely hip in their own way.The Red Door 'Gallery' has very good homemade cake and quality coffee, but the place is very cramped and uncomfortable. There is a good window table with big benches, but downstairs in the backroom the tables are small and muddled and it is difficult for more than 2 or 3 people to sit together.Independence is good. A degree of anarchy is healthy. But too much of mismatched wonky chairs, bad art, and laid back attitude just gets tedious in the end. I might have got grumpy if the banana and chocolate cake hadn't been quite so good.

I've lived in Greenwich for a while now and just stumbled across this place just off the market square. The place is cramped an poorly laid out, everyone has to sit sideways at the tables which is uncomfortable. We sat at a dirty table and had to wait about 15 minutes before anyone even came near us, I has to ask for menus and for the table to be cleared. I had to order 4 drinks before I got to something they actually had, which ended up being a cappuccino which was bitter. We ordered a scone to share and a sandwich each. The scone was quick and so were the drinks but the wait for the sandwiches was unreasonably long, about 30 minutes. When they arrived my friend did not get what he ordered but we were not prepared to wait for it to be fixed. We asked the Scottish man who delivered the food if we could have more beverages and he groaned and said "what do you want?". We weren't given any napkins and only one knife to share. I went to wash my hands and the sink was broken. Other tables around us were having a similar experience of things not being available even though they are on the menu and one table got wrong food altogether. The chai latte was one of the best I've ever had but I will not be returning. It simply wasn't good enough to justify another uncomfortable visit.

A girlfriend and I stumbled upon The Red Door Cafe in one of the streets in Greenwich market early one Sunday morning. We had decided to dine out for breakfast as it was such a glorious start to the day! We had a taste for poached eggs on toast, however, settled for a fresh smoked salmon bagel & ham & cheese sandwich on lovely seeded bread with a generous helping of their Monmouth coffee at the Red Door. The friendly faces of Edward from Glasgow and colleague and the sound of Van Morrison playing on the turntable were just too tempting and certainly the right mix to set us up for the rest of the day. Edward and co made us feel extremely special so much so that we also ended up having a generous helping of their freshly baked carrot and ginger cake and stayed there longer than expected. The friendly banter, the quirky artefacts and the groovy tones along with excellent hearty fare were enough to put this on our list of places to return to again very soon.

To qualify this, it's the worst coffee I can remember drinking in London in recent years. Two cups of take out aren't really a representative sample but the skinny late tasted sour/burnt/weak and the soy tasted bitter/weak and bland. Just off the Greenwich Market. we chose this because it looked unassuming and unpretentious, unlike some of the self-consciously trendy places in the area. the moment we went inside we felt comfortable and relaxed - the interior design is idiosyncratic and done with a talented eye. We were there late morning so it was very quiet. The member of staff was friendly and cheerful. The coffee and cake was fine (not out of this world but, for example, the chocolate cake was far superior to that served at Tate Britain). We haven't enjoyed a cafe so much since the Grand Cafes in Vienna and Prague - not that there is any similarity in catering or design, except that they all had a sense of style. If we had to label the style of Red Door we would perhaps say it is late 1960s, but with a finesse which was lacking in those days
