This lovely reading room cafe was host to a Burns Night Poetry event which was my first time in this quaint little space. It was so inviting. Anna was there to greet customers and make them feel like being welcomed into a friend's home for coffee. There were all the hot drinks on offer and flavoured brownies too. The poetry readings were beautiful in this small space; everyone felt welcomed and comfortable reading and sharing their works for an hour together here. I will definitely return to a future event or just pop in while I'm in St. Albans. It's a hidden gem in the heart of town; great for working, writing, reading, playing a game of chess or catching up with friends over a hot cup of tea. Definitely not to be missed!

We visited the Reading Rooms Café one weekend when the city centre, and all the other cafes, were very busy. So it was a delight to find this oasis of calm. My filter coffee and Biscoff biscuit were enjoyed along with some interesting facts from a book I picked at random from the masses around me. Whilst there may be no barista coffee here, or a wide selection of cakes, this reading room is just a delightful escape from the hustle and bustle of St Albans. The choice of drinks is filter coffee, three types of tea or squash / cold milk for children. To eat: chocolate brownie or a choice of two types of chocolate bars. The reading room and café is accessible via a door next to the bookshop entrance. A staircase leads to the reading rooms (full of books) and a small seating area – a mixture of tables and comfy seats. Will definitely revisit.

Frequently visited. Excellent coffee and bacon rolls. Recently taken to their milk shakes. More seating added a few months ago. Greenwood Park is very popular with dog owners. Saturday morning can be very busy if wanting to park.

I really enjoyed the cakes..real home made sponges etc…the scone..to die for. They also do weddings..wakes..plus walk in food. The owner & her assistant were really nice..we felt very relaxed.
