We stayed for 2 nights at this pleasant hotel. We enjoyed the food (breakfast and dinner/wine) The room was clean and light with windows on 2 sides. The staff were very helpful, bright and cheerfull

Fantastic Sunday lunch a few days ago with our family. The food was superb and the service just right. It was our first time back since new ownership and they appear to be doing a terrific job. Well recommended.

We stayed near Much Wenlock for 3 nights in September. We are a family of sisters brother and our spouses. We ate at the Raven hotel for 2 of the 3 nights first of all in the lounge bar and then in the restaurant. What a fabulous experience , both nights were different but the food was excellent. The first night was essentially good pub food Burger, sea bass battered hake and pork stroganoff. All great. The next night was as fine dining as you could find in big cities. An amuse Bouche with caviar and cod, starters ranging from delightful chicken liver pâté with a chicken skin water,scallops, trout and beetroot . The mains ranged from corn fed chicken to sea bass and a fillet steak( like butter my brother said,) and Prawn risotto, so many delicious prawns. The food was excellent, fabulous service and atmosphere. Very well priced for fine dining like this. We so wished we didn’t live so far away

We are regular visitors to this outstanding hotel, for lunch, dinner and overnight stays. A beautiful old building full of character. 2 menus, the fine dining and the informal lounge. Both change with the seasons and both give excellent choices. Vegans and vegetarians have good choices and the fresh fish - 8, 9, 10 different types - is a real pleasure. Excellent choice of wine, sommelier Nuno very experienced, i have his wine pairings a number of times a real treat. The taster experience is exceptional. Staff are lovely, knowledgeable friendly and always professional. We have stayed overnight in a number of the hotel rooms, all spacious with big comfortable beds, Egyptian cotton bedding and soft fluffy towels with a powerful shower. Breakfast also super,particularly enjoy chefs own granola. A wonderful hotel which we visit regularly and is always a real pleasure

Stayed a night for a school reunion. It was absolutely wonderful. Polite, friendly but also relaxed. Felt very well looked after. Breakfast was delicious. I normally dread eating bfast in a dining area but for the first time ever I loved it because the atmosphere was stress free and relaxed. Nothing was too much trouble for the lovely staff. The room was gorgeous and the bed was very comfortable. It was a genuine treat to stay at the Raven. Thanks to all those involved for an exceptionally lovely stay.

The Raven Hotel was an excellent find for a family visit to the area. We booked 2 rooms and were very happy with the friendly greeting and assistance we had from Chloe. It continued when she made contact to check on which of us had a Garlic intolerance. When i explained my situation she recommended that we spoke to Chef Lee. How fantastic was he, so very helpful and knowledgable about all the food he was cooking from fresh that could be adjusted for me. When the meal arrived it did not dissapoint. The whole ambience in the restaurant from the superb food and friendly, efficent staff and for breakfast next morning was superb. It made for a very enjoyable evening and complete visit. We also told Chef that my husband was intolerant of Aubergines and he and Lee came to a mutual decision that they were an awful vegetable! Imagine how much we laughed when an Aubergine dish was presented to my husband as his starter - see photo - great fun from Lee which we all appreciated. The room too, was very comfortable, our only complaint being the overbath shower taps were a nightmare to adjust to get a decent temperature to stand under, we were either almost scalded or frozen - something that really ought to be addressed as it could be dangerous. We shall certainly stay again when in the area. Thank you Raven staff for looking after us so well.

Sunday lunch. It is quite large and was full. It is oak beamed and the interior is a delight, with wonderful paintings on sale from a local artist (at great prices). Nice and warm. A forty minute wait for starters, which were great. The roast beef was nice and pink sirloin ( 2 thick slices) and was "best ever". Superb veg ... but the yorkie was stone cold and lumpen. The staff didn't react calmly to a constructive criticism. They gave us a substantial discount, which was not what we were seeking, but was appreciated. The ice cream (mint choc chip) was another "best ever". Overall a good memorable meal. We will definitely return.

My husband and I came to the Raven for the first time. We lunched I had Mackerel he had Bavette sreak. Delicious looked like a good plate if foid should tasted gorgeous. We celebrated with cocktails before hand. Sitting by a log burner in this pleasant old pub. We plan to go back again soon to try the a la carte menu. The staff were very friendly, Cheryl went out of her way to make our visit memorable.

Met up with longstanding friends for a catch-up over lunch. The food was lovely, the ambience friendly and welcoming and the service delightful (thank you Cheryl). We will definitely return!

Last minute decision to visit The Raven for lunch. Although it was a very busy Saturday staff found us a table. Excellent meal and value for money too. Desserts were also very good. Staff were very busy but despite this service was excellent. Highly recommended venue.

This is our first time staying in lovely much wenlock. After reading the reviews on her for the Raven Hotel we decided to eat here in that lounge. The food was amazing, probably the best food we have eaten and we eat out a lot, and it is very reasonably priced We are looking at coming back to much wenlock and bring our parents so we can eat here again. The place itself is tastefully decorated, all the staff were very friendly an nothing was to much trouble. Well done to all of you and thank you for a lovely night.

Visited on the 18/03 and was very impressed by the standards of everything from the wine to the main course I had Prawn Linguine and it was absolutely delicious. Would definitely recommend this pub and can’t wait to visit again. 5*

Ive been to the Raven Sunday Lunch on the 20th February with my Mother and my Wife, i can only say what an outstanding service, very well managed team, we were in the main restaurant but they had people in the other restaurant too for the number of people having lunch and 3 members of staff they have done an outstanding job. The young Lad was the star of the day he was in the bar doing drinks serving food and still going to every table checking if it was everything ok with the meal👏👏. The two young ladies always polite and with a smile on their face, very professional, will be our new restaurant for sunday lunch. Food 5stars the chicken roast was brilliant the fish cakes amazing and the desserts was the best of our meal. Hands up to the Raven.

It has been some years but we returned again for my daughter's birthday & also with our younger daughters - who also shared a tasting menu. It seemed updated & improved since our previous visit. Service was very friendly & efficient & the tasting menus were all well prepared & tasty. Even our younger daughters (7 & 8) ate everything presented to them & even pinched more off my plate. Nice cocktails & fairly decent wine added to the evening.

Having eaten here a few times I can honestly say that this place doesn't disappoint you. We had a lovely calamari starter. Mains included plaice with potatoes and hake with triple cooked chips. The service is unobtrusive and it's a lovely atmosphere.

Chose to eat here because of the historical connection with the story of Much Wenlock and the modern Olympics. There is much information about this, photos, old menus and information about the meeting held here.We were made welcome and the dining room is pleasant. Some of the party had fresh fish which was delicious, the leek soup did not taste of leeks so perhaps was something else, other dishes were declared OK. Other point is that we found the chairs rather uncomfortable with no back support.

The Raven is only minutes from our house and we truly love eating here with family and friends.Not always easy to get a table but that is the sign of a good restaurant.The kitchen has only improved over the years and the staff are very attentive.Long may continue !

Having walked around Much Wenlock we decided on The Raven, and if you do the same you won’t be disappointed. Sea Bass fillets perfectly pan fried served with a selection of gorgeous greens and triple cooked chips, all scrumptious. My daughter who is vegetarian had the ‘avocado burger’ which we were surprised to discover was an avodaco in place of the bun, filled with a falafel burger and salsa. Again all was perfect. Hubby had fish and chips and all devoured without much delay so another happy camper! If we weren’t on holiday and lived closer we would be back very soon. As it happens we will have to wait until fate brings us back. Thank you The Raven, you deserve to do very well.

Absolutely love The Raven. Our favourite restaurant that never fails to please whether in the bar or in the lounge bar. The staff are friendly and the food is always well presented and freshly cooked. Whatever your dietary requirements The Raven never fails to please whether for an intimate meal or a meal for a large gathering. Definitely recommend.

We stopped here whilst touring round on a very hot day for a quick light lunch. Food was great, well cooked and presented, and staff were very attentive and efficient. Would recommend the prawns, done to perfection!

Had an evening meal here with friends whilst staying at the Raven. We opted for food from the bar menu and weren’t disappointed. Would highly recommend the hake and chips. Very good service and a lovely setting.

We came across The Raven whilst wandering around Much Wenlock - what a find! The king prawns were outstanding, the Caesar salad excellent, the smoked haddock chowder delicious and the steak sandwich the best sandwich (not confined to steak) I have ever eaten. Staff are friendly and professional and the decor and ambience are first rate. Highly recommended.

Had the most delightful Sunday lunch here today, served in the main dining room. The beef was delicious as was my friends pork. Lovely attentive service from a young waitress.

You can always receive a very warm and friendly welcome. The Raven go's out of it's way to please.The food is exceptionally good. The ambiance is very good with warm real fires in the winter and lovely outside area. Try it for yourself.

This renowned restaurant had been on our list of places to visit for sometime. It’s a traditional old hotel with a quality dining room. After drinks in the bar we shown to our table. For starters I enjoyed the braised lamb croquette with broad beans, burnt onion purée and mint oil very tasty and beautifully presented. The beetroot starter was also enjoyed. For mains I enjoyed the sirloin of beef with celeriac purée, kumquat compote, honey comb and bee pollen crust it was excellent. The belly pork with smoked pomme purée and pink lady apple was also enjoyed. Dessert was chocolate mousse with honeycomb and salted caramel ice cream again beautifully presented with a taste to match. So far so good but it only rates a 4 star as the cheese board promised much but failed to deliver with rather a small portion of cheese and very little in the way of accompaniments and disappointing biscuits. The other criticism was that at no point were we offered the wine menu and in fact we had ask a waitress to refresh our drinks. Overall I enjoyed the food but service levels failed to match it. I would come back but my wife was less enthusiastic.

The online bar menu really doesn't do justice to the food available. The night we ate there were 12 different fish available . I chose the lemon sole which was beautifully and simply cooked and presented. All 4 of us had fish and all were very much appreciated. I had the bread and dips to start an enormous plate of exceptional good bread and 3 different tasty dips. Certainly enough to share for 2 people. Our 4 puds were also very good, my crumble was very good and again a large portion. Our servers Emma and Nuno were knowledgeable friendly and professional both a credit to the restaurant. Will certainly be visiting again soon

We were walking around Much Wenlock last Sunday and spotted the Sunday lunch menu outside. It represented very good value for money. We went in and asked if they had a table for 2 of us at 12:30 (it was 12:00) at the time of asking. There was no problem with that.

Delicious Sunday roast, with melt in the mouth sirloin of beef. Service was attentive and we never felt hurried.

I forgot to do the review for this place. It deserves it. They were friendly , helpful and the food delicious. We had been a year or so before and it was good to see how they are doing. They have moved their standards up and it was great

I stumbled across this fabulous little place at Xmas time and popped in for a drink. I popped back on my next visit in January.

Stayed at the weekend and enjoyed a lovely stay with good breakfast in a lovely room (forge 4) only issue for us was light pollution from light in car park opposite. Blackout lining would easily solve the problem

Myself and husband popped in for a cup of tea. It is very clean and staff were friendly. It was a big pot of tea and we had 3 cup each out of it.

Upon arrival at the front desk there was no one around, another couple were waiting for someone to appear, as there was no one available to serve drinks in the bar. After ringing the bell on the desk three times, someone eventually appeared who asked us to sit in the bar and she would find a bar person to serve us. It was a very cold day today, the fire had not been lit, there was no heating on at all, the time was 2.00pm. The lady in charge then proceed to light the fire, which was a little late in my opinion.

This was our first stay at The Raven Hotel and we will be back!

Looking forward to a special dinner, following an artist's invitation to their opening at a nearby gallery. This was our first meal out since moving to Shropshire this summer - had it been as good as the reviews or impression given by The Raven website, we might have become regulars to the restaurant and maybe occasional weekend stayers.

We had a meal for 25people in the raven hotel and it was absolutely brilliant the food was amazing and very tasty and the service well the service was the best part of the meal Nuno and the team made us feel like we were in a meal of royalty always attentive to detail, first class service Nuno.

I am really surprised that some reviews are less than Excellent/ Very good. Clearly some people have poor taste. we stayed here about a year ago and intend to go back soon. Food is excellent. Location is also good for discovering the area.

The first time we stayed at the Raven was on a groupon type deal, we weren’t expecting much but we were pleasantly surprised, the hotel is very friendly & the staff will go out of their way to accommodate your needs, we have stayed at the Raven many times since that first visit & hope to be staying again either before Christmas or just after, the food in the restaurant is very good & the breakfast is plentiful & delicious.

As a couple we have stayed at raven a few times and it is always such a friendly place to stay. The village is just perfect to walk round after an evening meal .bedrooms very comfortable and food is really amazing served well and staff friendly and helpfull.highly recommend it

First visit to The Raven for dinner with family. Ate from the lounge menu. The menu really doesn't do justice to what is available- in addition there were at least 6 different fish dishes. We shared the breads and dips to start huge portion ample for 2 lovely bread and unusual dips

My husband and I recently celebrated a joint birthday meal with 24 friends. The Raven did us proud. The food was exceptional and the service was impeccable. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. They were still talking about the meal a week later. If you want to have a celebratory meal then you can look no further than having it at The Raven. Outstanding.

Stayed in the four poster this time very comfortable. Everywhere was clean as you would expect.

We stayed at this hotel for a weekend family break and would thoroughly recommend the venue. The accommodation is spacious, clean and wonderfully quiet. We ate in the restaurant on the first night and found the food to be very enjoyable (though minimalist and perhaps lacking in a little atmosphere). The staff are welcoming and helpful. Definitely a good venue choice for this area.

A real find in a lovely town. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. The food was excellent - well presented and exceptionally tasty.

We stayed 2 nights a Friday & a Saturday mid June. The hotel is very easy to find with ample parking at the back which was a relief as the road it’s situated on is packed. Room was large with everything you need for a short stay. The bar & restaurant was nice & breakfast very tasty. The town reminded us of the village in hot fuzz & it gives you that feel with a mixture of culture, history & traditional ales & food. Overall we enjoyed our stay & would recommend the hotel.

There are 2 menus - Fine Dining and Lounge and the hotel prefer you to eat from one or the other menu.. I was part of a party of 4 and each of us preferred different starters/mains/dessert for both menus. The staff were very accommodating and allowed us to order from both menus, which was great as it was delicious. Lovely setting, great staff and great food.

When we booked in to this hotel we didn't expect they would have a top class dining room as well as an informal bar serving a wide range of food. Clearly the chef at this establishment is trained to the highest level of culinary excellence and we benefitted from his skill. The food was superb. Just go and try for yourselves.

We've been coming for over 25 years and have seen the Raven develop and improve over that time. The cooking in the restaurant is at a very high level and it is well worth a special trip to stay and eat.

We had a super two night break in this favourite hotel of ours. Made very welcome by all the staff and our room was very comfortable. First night we dined a la carte and the food, presentation and service were superb. The second evening we had family over including two boisterous 8 year-olds who enjoyed steak and chicken from the children's menu. The service was again faultless and all staff were charming with the youngsters. Excellent location for walks in the area.

Decided to give my husband a surprise treat for Christmas and had 2 nights stay between Christmas and New year. this was our 3rd visit to the Raven, we absolutely love it. The food is top notch, the service is brilliant, the staff are always friendly and welcoming. we won't hesitate to return to the Raven and would recommend it without hesitation

A very good, all round, typical all English Coaching Inn, with a very nice traditional atmosphere, very friendly, good food, with an excellent allacarte, evening menu, a very traditional English Breakfast, nice clean and tidy traditional rooms, all without being too expensive, we have stayed many times, for short mid week visits, over the last few years, and hope to return again soon.

We called in for Sunday lunch after visiting Much Wenlock priory we hadn't booked but the nice friendly staff were able to find us a table. The menu was great I had the baked hake and my partner the asparagus with a poached egg for desert rhubarb and custard tart . The food was excellent and so were the staff. Dogs were aloud in he bar area were you could also eat. We would return again when in the area.

We found this restaurant whilst looking for somewhere for lunch on a wander around Much Wenlock. Although we hadn’t booked the staff were able to accommodate us.

We had an early Saturday evening reservation. A warm welcome, coupled with a lovely, clean, modern atmosphere. The staff are all friendly and professional. Sadly we only had time for a main course. The menu was adequate, with several dishes for vegetarians. Two of the party had the fish and chips with homemade tartare sauce and mushy peas, one sausage and mash and one the dahl lentil curry. All four of us were impressed, having appreciated the service, food presentation, taste and price. Would definitely recommend.

For a restaurant with an accolade of 2AA rosettes we found it disappointing in several aspects. The soup was Luke warm and we had to send it back for reheating.The main course roast was served on plates which were not heated which I think a basic rule for any good chef.Quality of food was fairly good but not worthy of 2AA rosettes with the exception of the beef itself whic was excellent.When choosing a restaurant with this sort of accolade One is entitled to expect every aspect of the food to be first class and this did not quite meet expectations.

This was a special visit for a birthday. We all felt that the food presented fell below the standard to be expected for the cost. The starters were passable if somewhat small, however the main courses left much to be desired. Two of these were breast of duck which were too tough to tackle without requesting a steak knife. Even when cut into small pieces too tough to chew. The staff seemed to think this OK and was the fault of the supplier. No substitute was offered. The small amounts of vegetables were sufficient only for decoration. Nobody enjoyed the whole meal and we left without trying a pudding, normally a favourite.

As you walk in you are greeted by the warmness of the log burning fires. The staff are immediately attentive and nothing is to much trouble. We had a special table that made our friends 30th wedding anniversary celebration very special. Now to the food. This is a special place excellent food. I was with 9 friends and between us we tested the whole Menu not one person had a negative thing to say amazing flavours delicately balanced served at an appropriate pace. I can highly recommend this lovely restaurant. A must do

Stoped off in Much Wenlock for a quick lunch, found the Raven and a car park in the street just behind it, went in to a cheerful welcome, quick service, great beer, usual quiz about Gin,then lunch smashing ham and eggs for me. Hake for the other half, all well cooked ,well presented and fair value,Wine was good as well ! all in all a wonderful lunch.

Absolutely love The Raven and it’s lounge bar. The food is freshly prepared and always well presented. The staff are friendly and always make you feel welcome . Dietary requirements are never a problem. Definitely worth a visit.

We ate here while staying in Much Wenlock. We'd been told on booking that we'd need to choose between the 'a la carte' menu and the louge menu. Fair enough, but we'd have liked a bit more flexibility, i.e. one of us being able to choose from each, or being able to choose the 'a la carte' option while sitting in the lounge (which was lovely and quiet - more appealing than the rather noisy restaurant).

A very nice hotel, quiet and comfortable within easy reach of the beautiful Shropshire Hills, perfect for walking, or driving. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast and dinner were excellent. We would definitely stay there again, when in that area.

Decided to treat ourselves to a lazy lunch on a miserable Saturday in February, what a treat? Car park was very accessible. There were food stalls was set up in the outbuildings,reminiscent of French markets, with an array of wonderful fresh food.Will visit there again!

We had not eaten at the Raven for a couple of years, not since its rising star chef, Jason Hodnett, had left, so I was not sure what to expect. Add to this that we were having dinner there in the dead time just after New Year, when many restaurants either close completely or draw in their horns, I was a bit apprehensive. I need not have worried. First class ingredients expertly cooked and imaginatively presented, with top-class service. I know of no better food for many miles in any direction.

We love this hotel. We had heard how good the food is and we planned to have our 40th wedding anniversary here. We stayed the night before in a very pleasant room. We had a wonderful lunch for about 20 family and friends including 4 small children. Friendly and helpful staff. We have been back taking some friends for a celebration Sunday lunch. They were so taken with it all that they have now taken some friends for a Christmas lunch today. We have also been back, just the 2 of us, for a lunch in the bar and received the usual friendly welcome and excellent food.

Was feeling a bit fed up after a bad morning. The calm atmosphere was what was needed. Nice white table cloth and napkins. Warm fire. The food was served with style.

What a lovely wee hotel. When we arrived it was undergoing some refurbishment in the bar and looked a little dated decor wise. But when it came to dinner and breakfast, well it was fantastic. Incredibly good food well presented. A wide variety of unusual choices. Everything we had was excellent. We managed to get outside on the second day for pre-dinner drinks in the lovely courtyard. When asking for a drink friendly staff said we could have whatever we asked for, super. Rooms were much smarter than the hotel decor so dont be decieved. Given the refurbishment that could all have changed by now anyway!!

My Mother had been with friends and, whilst notoriously expensive, confirmed that the food was exceptional. We had been meaning to go for years and were delighted to have got a table at short notice. However, our visit was a huge disappointment. We discovered after the event that the Chef who had put it on the map for fantastic dining and achieved two AA rosettes (Jason Hodnett of Great British Menu fame) had left at the start of the year. We really should have checked that before booking.

The area adjacent to the restaurant has been redecorated since our previous visit.

We enjoyed a really superior dinner here

Had a dinner there and it was wonderful, five star food and service, not cheap but well worth the cost for such lovely fresh locally sourced food
