Rask in Derby

City was very quiet so as I was passing Rask I popped in for a coffee and a bite to eat, cannot fault it. Cheerful greeting with a smile on entering in this well laid out, spotlessly clean and very safe environment, come on folks lets keep these places ticking over.

Stopped off for a bit of breakfast with the missus - she had the granola bowl - I had intended to but went for the corn fritters, topped with bacon, avocado and poached eggs. The eggs were perfect and the whole ensemble really well cooked and presented - 13/10 for for food. The coffee was decent (I had a cappuccino) but I am such a massive coffee snob it is difficult to please me.Will definitely be going again and I am going to try the espresso.

Myself and my fiancé Brad went for breakfast yesterday and it was nothing more than outstanding! Such friendly service , clean environment, beautiful homemade cakes, lots of choice! I was extremely happy. Thanks Ladies Abi - carrot cake girl haha!

I’m regular at this establishment, the food is always delicious with diverse healthy dishes that are unavailable elsewhere in the city. Rask is a hidden gem in a sea of mediocrity, the vegetarian options are fantastic, coffee great and the service is friendly, can’t wait to visit again in the near future!

Over £2 for half a cup of lukewarm mud. I had some time to spare, so thought I would give this place a try. First thing that hit me was it’s shared space with some other business and while the food smelt ok, there was no real obvious signage other than some chalk boards naming about 6000 types of posh coffee you could choose from. As a true coffee lover, I always go for a black Americano, so I ordered it and sat down. I felt a bit out of place in my surroundings, the staff weren’t what I would call warm and inviting, not particularly friendly either. There was one girl not doing much at the counter and I could hear two babbling on in what appeared to be a kitchen. So I tasted my coffee. Four things hit me, first the pointless bit of card around my glass receptacle, the amount of drink I got for my money and above all it was a lukewarm drink that tasted of something resembling the remnants of watery mud. I needed to put sugar in and lots of it. I put about 4 tiny sachets of brown sugar in, waited 5 minutes and gulped it down like some child taking medicine to get it over and done with. I looked in my glass and there at the bottom was all the sugar. It wasn’t even hot enough to melt it. At this point I daren’t try the food and just left. The only time I might possibly consider going in here again is if there were to be a big sign outside saying “under new management”.

My partner and I popped into Rask for a quick bite to eat. We are vegan and we're surprised to see the variety of the grub on offer. We both had the soup of the day which was ridiculously tasty. The vibe is cool, the staff are great and the food looked amazing. I'll be having a smoothie bowl next I think. I also bought a little gingerbread man for 50p when paying and he was also delicious! Some folk have been suggesting that the place is expensive. I disagree massively. Soup was just over a fiver I think and you got loads! Portion was great and the sourdough was top quality. Salad bowls looked hearty and we are looking forward to trying out the Saturday brunch. Will defo be returning.

Quick lunch while shopping, food was delicious , with quality ingredients. I had open sandwich on rye, with a portion of salad. On previous visits I've had vegan breakfast which was very tasty. Good food, properly prepared cannot be cheap so I feel the prices are fair and we need to support independent cafes such as this one or they will cease to trade and we will be left with the big chain cafes.

I have been into Rask a couple of times now for both coffee and food. The coffee is great and reasonably priced - they also offer a 10% discount for bringing a reuse-able cup. The food is very good, I previously had poached eggs on rye toast (cooked beautifully) and this afternoon tried out a salad box. This is where I felt they fell down. While it was tasty, it was £8 - for three items (in my case some giant couscous, tofu and potatoes). All three were cooked and seasoned well but I was left hungry and disappointed. Sorry Rask I won’t be back for lunch any time soon - I can’t justify £8 on a salad box.

I have quite a few work meetings in Rask and as well as offering great tasting coffee, the food is delicious as well as being super healthy. The prices reflect the high quality ingredients and there is always a good mix of stuff to try. The atmosphere is lovely and the staff are always really friendly and welcoming, just need to try their breakfast on a Saturday now!

i believe rask has changed ownership recently, however in the year I’ve been visiting I’ve never left disappointed with the food. Service has been slow in the past if the cafe is busy, however it’s usually worth the wait. Latest trip however - 3 salad items in a box (no meat or fish) £8.50 which I object to, as too expensive for a takeaway salad box consisting of a few potatos and lentils.

Relaxed atmosphere, healthy but delicious food and a fabulous range of coffees. We particularly love their smoothie bowls. Lots of Vegan/Veggie choices on the menu too. Great for breakfast/brunch/lunch. Reasonably priced also.

We went for brunch in this cute and stylish scandinavian cafe . Food was fab , music was perfect and staff really helpful. Its all fresh so you wait a little while for your food but its offerings are different and really tasty. Wish we had one of these near where l live!

If you want a guilt free, delicious breakfast or lunch in Derby, then Rask is highly recommended. Been many times, never disappointed.

Called in for a hot chocolate as I have eaten lunch already. Lovely feel to the place. Books on the tables and a wooden rocking raindeer for the children. Salad and breakfast menu looked lovely. Opposite the museum and art gallery. Looking forward to trying the food. The water was infused with basil and orange. Unusual place.

Always a warm and friendly greeting from the staff here with that all important smile. Choose any three items, wash it down with a decent cup of tea and then find room for one of their delicious cakes.

Tasty food but feel the portions are a bit small. Fine if all you want is coffee and a snack but felt like I would've needed to order two meals to feel full.

I had three salads in a rask bowl for £7, which was coconut quinoa, lentil salad and stir fried brocolli and kale. Absolutely delicious you can tell the staff know their flavours

Have had lunch here a few times. Food is delicious and healthy, if a little bit pricey.

Love this place! visited for breakfast and had the sweetcorn fritters with avocado. So tasty and beautifully presented.

An oasis of peace for a while after a walk around Derby, lovely atmosphere, good cup of coffee and yummy cakes with excellent service from the staff.

Second visit for Saturday brunch. Love the Scandi vibe at this friendly cafe. Good coffee and nice food.

What a cool place, with an interesting menu. Great for a quick takeout or sitting a couple hours with a book or watching the world go by. Service also great. We had the peanut butter and banana oatmeal, eggs on toast, and masala chai—all were delicious. Would be worth swinging off the highway to visit this nice town and great cafe.

Have been many times with friends and family (sometimes with my baby) and the staff are always extremely friendly and the food is incredible. I love that there are many options and that the recipes Rotte each week and foods are picked in season.

Nice little bit of suprise scandi - excellent breakfast and coffee. Lunch looked good too. Nice selection of healthy food.

Had a lovely lunch of hearty homemade soup on a cold winter’s day. Rask also has a great selection of Fairtrade drinks, including some lovely cold tea drinks and unusual lemonade (I enjoyed the blood orange-ade).

Warm and welcoming on a cold Derby afternoon. Excellent tea and open sandwich - cheese and salami (wot, no herring?). Speedy and friendly service - my much needed hot drink was steaming away before I had finished paying (rather different to another café not 50 metres away - NNNPD). Cool jazz (Miles or Scandi) records playing in the background. The salad dishes looked very tasty. I wish Rask well. Oh yes, and of course there's a copy of The Little Book of Hygge to read while you munch ... must bring my knitting next time. Cheers.

We came here for a hot chocolate on a cold day. The waitress was very helpful, moved the furniture for our wheelchair, and was very friendly. Mum and hubbie had fresh cinnamon buns and they were tasty. I liked the look of the variety of fresh salads being put on display.

An excellent range of really tasty natural foods including some lovely pick 'n mix salads. Something here for carnivores, vegetarians and vegans. And scrummy puds. A welcoming team and delightfully laid back atmosphere.

The food offering, whilst not wide is delicious - choice of salads which are interesting and tasty and and excellent coffee to finish.

An ideal venue offering products that are tasty, different, also traditional and healthy. Good value and extremely friendly, competent staff

Risk a visit to Rask and you will not be disappointed. Interior/decor/seating may not suit everyone but I loved it, relaxed atmosphere, with service from the staff that was friendly and welcoming with that all important smile. Small menu choice with I absolutely love, food looks good and tastes even better with prices that are very reasonable.
