This Kerala non-veg restaurant is a gem. We tried an option called Travancore Feast (around 20 pounds which we shared between two of us ) which included almost everything in the menu. It is an excellent option for those who want to try various dishes in one go. It included the following : 1. Pre-meal snacks (included a mix of every item under the pre-meal snack menu) with various chutney (We loved the papadom/Pappadavada/Murukku+Mango chutney combination) 2. Starters - The seafood soup (so yummy) and the prawn chutney was very unique and superb, potato bonda was nice. 3. Curry - We thought that the curry portion will be small like other restaurant thalis but that was not the case here. They served each curry in a big white bowl which included 1 fish curry, 1 prawn curry (we swapped it with lamb curry), 1 chicken curry and 1 veg curry (we got peas curry in coconut milk which was very tasty). The best part was the taste was superb. The curries had the same taste of rasa restaurant which is in west london. Upon enquiring we got to know that the chefs worked in rasa restaurants before. 4. Pulao Rice and Kerala Paratha - Pulao Rice and fish curry combination were superb. Kerala Paratha was ok. I guess it was made of wheat instead of maida, which is good if u r looking for a healthier option. 5. One Dessert Overall it was great we also ordered Appam which was great with Peas Curry. There is a rasa restaurant opposite to this one but that is pure veg. If you want a kerala non-veg option then this is the one (Travancore Restaurant). It is a bit confusing since both of them are painted pink.

Extensive and tremendous south Indian cuisine. Extremely surprised and excited by the variety of dishes in their menu that never ever get bored for the people who love to try the real traditional range Kerala food. This restaurant used to be a branch of rasa and was took over by a new management and they improved a lot in terms of quality of food and services. One of my favourite dish is their traditional 'Arachuvacha meen curry, (Fish curry), a must try, mouth watering dish that you never expect to get from any other Indian cuisine. They also included a lot of vegetarian dishes including vegan, Dosas etc, this will be a great addition for a group of people who got mixed preferences. Talking about the staff; very polite, friendly, welcoming staffs who provided very efficient services. I would recommend 'Travancore restaurant' to anyone who wants to explore a variety of traditional Indian food! I am definitely going back!!

The food was good but we expected more for how much we paid in the end. The portions were good. However, the starter Murukku was not fresh, it was already hard (probably not kept completely air-tight). Service was good. Bathrooms could be cleaner.

I've been going to Rasa for 10 years now, it hasn't changed and that's good and bad... It's a bit shabby looking and the pickles, poppadoms, starters etc; especially the Kathrikka (battered aubergine), which used to be my favourite, are boring. BUT my fish curry was really good as always. So, go for a fish curry and a beer.

Go here and enjoy. The food is beautiful, atmosphere buzzy, and service humble and attentive. The dishes were subtly spiced, fresh and varied. The menu is full of amazing dishes, I already want to to back to try more. We shared a vegetarian, lamb, and seafood curry all which I would go out of my way to have again. The vegetarian in particular was a standout - curry with mango and banana - sounds strange but you need to try it! Ignore the silly reviews below, and try this restaurant, you wont be disappointed. Great value for money also.

The food was good again but when in an empty restaurant the waiter is surly, pressures us to order then eat and finally just brings the bill without us asking it leaves a bad taste. Such a contrast with Rasa over the road too...

A first visit to this outpost of the Rasa empire and it did not disappoint! The Kerala Fish Fry - "Kingfish marinated in a spicy paste made of ginger, green chillies and coriander, then shallow fried in traditional fashion" - to start with, and then Nadan Kozhy Curry - "Cubes of boneless chicken cooked in a lovely pepper masala made from garlic, mustard seeds, curry leaves, green chillies and ginger" - both dishes were stunning. Like its sister restaurants, this branch of Rasa cannot be recommended highly enough.

We were recommended to try this restaurant recently. I was put off by the pink decor but decided to try a meal there anyway. The food was middle of the road in quality, but we have had much better Indian food at other restaurants. Generally the restaurant was a bit grubby and I thought it could have been cleaner. Would not go there again unless it improves its cleanliness.

Nothing like Rasa vegetarian used to be. Dull food, starters as if from an Aldi frozen party pack, mains swimming in weak sauce - and this was the "feast". Slow service. And if you wonder why there is no food hygiene scores on the door sign - it's because it only scores 2 out of 5 (look it up on line). The toilets were dirt encrusted and filthy. A waste of an evening and money. Clearly just cruising on the reputation of its vegetarian restaurant from 15 years ago.

My dad and I were hoping to go to the rasa vegetarian restaurant. I've always had amazing food and service there. Unfortunately it was fully booked so we thought we would try rasa travancore instead. We ordered two curries, two rice, bread and two lassie. When the food arrived I noticed they had forgotten the bread. We reminded the waiter and asked for some tap water. The waiter passed us four/ five times to serve larger groups of tables. However he didn't bring our bread and tap water. We asked another member of staff who eventually turned up with our water... But still no bread. By this time we were nearing the end of our curry. The food had been ok- a little too much corn flower in the curry. We had just finished when the waiter arrived with our bread, which we turned away as it was now pointless! I would not go back to this place. We felt undervalued by the staff as we were just a table of two. Places like this need to remember that the people eating are locals (like myself) who will return if they have a good experience. I would defiantly recommend the vegetarian restaurant instead! Totally different experience.

I'm really surprised this place has reviewed so poorly as I found it be really unusual and wonderful. The cooking was so authentic and the service was charming and attentive. We revisited RT after a gap of some years, a treat, we were expecting something really special fresh spices, great flavours, ambience.....but the whole experience was jaundiced, the restaurant was cold and dark, not atmospheric and inviting. The starters were familiar and the chutneys and achappam the tasty classics I knew, but the mains! Lack lustre bland regurgitation of a tired menu a pale shadow of the vibrant and exciting innovative flavours pioneered by Das Sreedharan(bloke's a genius). The service was attentive but to finish off a disappointing meal the proprietor was surely and offhand didn't ask how the food was or say goodbye I'm sure he didn't give a monkey's whether we had an enjoyable experience or not....as the steady steam of people came through the door

Although I'm allergic to nuts, I've never let that stop me eating out. All I've ever needed to do in the past was let the restaurant know and they tell me what I can and can't eat - it should be as simple as that. In fact, just by doing that I have managed to avoid EVER having an allergic reaction (apart from the first time when I was diagnosed) at any restaurant I've ever been too - even the Vegetarian Rasa across the road. However, this was clearly too much to ask of Rasa Travancore because about two hours after I ate a dish that the staff clearly marked out for me as being OK to eat, I was taken to A&E in an ambulance. Luckily, my allergy is relatively mild and I was released by about 2AM. However, had a person with a more severe allergy to me ate that meal after being told specifically that it was OK, it is likely that they could have died. If you have any sort of food allergy I would strongly advise you to NEVER go to Rasa Travancore, as they clearly are too incompetent to prevent cross-contamination incidents.

We dined here on a Friday evening while visiting Finsbury Park friends. Rasa Travencore, part of a small Rasa restaurant chain, was one of their "go to" places. As guests, we were not disappointed. The menu was comprehensive, the service fast and efficient and the quantities bang-on. Although the snacks were nothing to write home about, the curries, stews and seafood we tried were all very good. Plan to make reservations, as the night we visited the restaurant was full.

Not my first time here- and never disappointed with the quality of their curries. My wife had a great fish curry while I had a fantastic king prawn dish. I like their original, personal menu that offers many interesting dishes- this is what keeps us returning. What to moan about? I'm being picky, but dishes are cleared away a bit too quickly, and the head waiter looks like he'd rather be somewhere else... And try to get to eat in the main part of the restaurant as the connecting room is a little miserable. If you are looking for an interesting, tasty curry go here.

We accidentally ended up here instead of the veggie place across road (as we didn't realise they were any different and from the angle we were at the other place appeared to be in darkness so we assumed it was closed). We were immediately confused by there being meat on the menu and asked if there was a separate vegetarian menu as we thought it was a veggie place. He simply said 'no that's it' - I'm totally baffled why he didn't mention their other branch across the street.Anyway, we decided to stay and just order from the small selection of veggie food they had on this menu. I really wish we hadn't. The food was heavy and not to our tastes. It's completely put me off actually trying the veggie place across the road in future, even though ive heard good things about it.The guy who seated us and didn't bother to tell us about the veggie place across the road (he appeared to be the manager) was quite rude and miserable. The other waiters all seemed pleasant enough.Overall, not a good experience. We won't be going back.

We enjoyed every moment and the food and service was top notch BUT we elected to pay cash and we had to ask for our change. A 10% tip is customary but it appeared that the waiter hoped that we wouldn't be forceful enough to request change that actually amounted to far in excess of that figure. A little disappointing.

I only visited Rasa Travancore because I couldn't get a table at Rasa. It was such a let-down. The food was bland - the curries, the pickles, even the lemon rice and the chapatti. The Kerala fish fry had a really strong, unpleasant fish smell, so I would avoid it. The only notable dish was the beetroot curry, which I would recommend. The service was slow, and we had to ask for our drinks 3 times in the spam of half an hour. Overall, maybe try to book at Rasa, and avoid this one.

I've been to Rasa four or five times now, most recently last week. I always try choose something different, but now I've tried the fish with tapioca I think I know what I'll be sticking with in the future! One minor disappointment was the aubergine curry - it was mostly yoghurt and very little aubergine.Whichever curry you go for, do have it with a paratha. It's much nicer than the naan bread you more often find in Indian restaurants.I also recommend starting with the pickles and snacks that the offer in place of poppadoms - so much flavour in so many little dishes.

I went with family on what was, for the restaurant, a busy night. The four of us decided to have the feast menu which, the restaurant website states, will be tailored to the individual tastes of the diners. We asked for mainly fish and vegetarian dishes and, in fact received, two meat, prawn, crab and fish plus dall. Included in the 'feast' are nibbles and mixed starter and a small dessert. The 'feast' is £20 per person. On reflection, I think, we would have been better to order individually and, I worked out, paid, in total, about £5 more and got exactly what we wanted. We are all familiar with Keralan cuisine, both in Kerala and various restaurants in the UK, and found the food good, but not exceptional. It was possibly a bit on the bland side; but they are catering for more than specific South Indian cuisine lovers. The lassis are very good. The restaurant is a bit run down, uses paper table clothes and napkins, and does not provide (the almost universal) warm towels at the end of the meal.We travelled from near Cambridge to this restaurant and, all in all, would have been better to go to one of the Keralan restaurants in Cambridge which is even more authentic.Service was good and the the staff were very pleasant.

Ordered via ubereats. Got food home, Lamb Rogan... NO Lamb. Chicken Madras.. THREE pieces of chicken and 2 lumps of potato. The dips were nothing more than a thimble full. 4 popadums two of which were that stale you could bend them into 4 WITHOUT breaking them. Rang ubereats and was given a paltry £3.42 refund. Rang the restaurant and was called a liar being told there was 8 pieces of chicken (see for yourself) Manager never called back despite being told he would. The only decent thing was the rice and the raita. Don't waste your money 8 quid for a curry sauce and 7 quid for half portion of Madras.

They advertise a ‘Buffet Night’ in a poster on the door. Didn’t even get through the door when a very rude man (the owner?) told me “it’s finished…a long time ago”. I suggested they should take the poster down then, which he started to do. Went round the corner and had a nice curry at the Lavan’s Spice. As I walked back passed on my way home the poster was back in the window! They are openly LYING to customers advertising a buffet night they don’t actually do! AVOID!!!
