Rannaghor in Edinburgh, City of

Had a take away to night and had had a sit meal in a few weeks ago, on both occasions the mains were great. Way better than previous meals, must be a change in the kitchen.

Rannaghor used to be the site of the Currie chip shop when I was growing up and when I was staying at my Gran's nearby, on a Saturday night, we used to visit to get our chips. It's been an Indian for over ten years now and last night we visited with one of my wife's friends. I've had a few takeaways from Rannaghor over the years and this was maybe my fourth sit in meal. In the early days of the restaurant it was fairly average however the food is now very good and the service we received last night was also decent despite the restaurant being short staffed. I'd say it's now a very decent option for sit in or takeaway Indian.

With present covid restrictions, we decided to give various take away restaurants a try and this Indian take away mean was absolutely excellent. I can only guess they have seriously taken past comments to heart and improved since other negative reviews were written. Three of us had enough food to feel replete, with leftovers for tomorrow. The Chicken Tikka was especially delicious, as were the mixed pakoras. Malayan chicken was creamy and mild. The vegetable biryani was greatly enjoyed by our vegan daughter, and we tried some and found it to be very tasty, just the right amount of spice. This was the second time we have had their takeaway and I KNOW we will go back again...and probably again!

2 cebollas popadom y condimentadas. . . . terminó con una bolsa de ensalada. Llamado para preguntar y la respuesta fue "eso es todo" ¡horrible! !

Visité este restaurante con 3 amigos y pasé una noche muy agradable. El servicio que tuvimos fue muy bueno y amable. Disfrutamos de nuestra comida que era muy sabrosa y la calidad y la presentación fue buena. Estaremos de vuelta.

For the third time in a row they have got our take away order wrong. The food is fine but not special enough to put up with the continuous mistakes.

Have been here several times and it’s just as bad as before. Food is always swimming in oil and not tasty. Each dish tastes virtually the same, korma was so mild it had no flavour at all and vindaloo was mild at best! Avoid and go elsewhere.

4 star for quality of food and presentation which was very good. Very friendly staff in a small cosy venue. Location unattractive hidden away behind scotmid/health centre so overall 3. Great for a takeaway and ideal to keep costs down sitting in as BYOB.

Worst Indian I've ever had. Food swimming in oil, tasted like they'd knicked a load of curry sauce from the local chip shop! Dour service. Saving grace was that it was inexpensive, but you get what you pay for.............

My 54th Birthday meal to eat in the garden on a sunny day went very well for 8 adults with one exception. @ 5 pm Ordered a " set meal for 4 ( £53 ) & 2 x Chef's specials ( £16 ) & extra rice & naan etc. Phoned in order which was ready in 30 mins, excellent ! Delivery would have been an hour. I only live 5 mins away so I collected. With 6 x different main courses I specifically asked for the names of the mains to be written on the dishes as 2 adults had serious food allergies with coriander & nuts. Scribbled, smudged, non existent descriptions were the result. We had to guess what the dishes were. & to top it all, should have got 4 x poppadoms with sauces ...........result.... ........got none ! £75 & no poppadoms......... attention to detail required, otherwise, very tasty food, but a bit pricey.

Ordered a curry from here last night. The naan bread and chicken pakoras were ice cold. Both our mains were swimming in oil, very water thin sauces with absolutely zero flavour whatsoever. My ceylon ( no spice and no flavour of coconut at all ) had only FOUR small cubes of lamb and no vegetables. And the ( cold ) aloo gobi was literally a tray of oil with some hard partially cooked potatoes floating in it

We were staying at the Ricarton Inn in Currie. And this Indian was the nearest to them. Trip advisor was a bit mixed but with enough good ones to entice us to visit and judge for ourselves. This is a BYOB place (apart from soft drinks which they sell) and there is a CoOp next door to buy what you need. (In my case 4 bottles of Spanish Lager and a cherry Pepsi bottle for my son) We started with 2 spices pompendoms and a chapati with some pickles, a prawn purée and a fish pakora, both nice sized portions and very tasty. For mains we had Bengali fish masala and a chicken shashlick again both very good. The service was good (apart from his singing!) The whole lot was about £40.00 without drink 2 issues with this, firstly they do not take credit cards so I had so slink off to the cash point next door, a sign in the window would have been good. And whilst the food was very good, it was not priced like a BYOD place, I have been in many similar places on Birmingham where this would have been around £30

We went for dinner at the weekend, in a group of four. We had booked for 6:30, but they seemed surprised when we turned up. The place is a bit down at heel: the menus could do with renewing, that sort of thing. The service was indifferent at best: they were slow despite not being busy at the start of the meal. They got one order completely wrong and said it would take too long to correct it so we had to have it anyway. So not great. On the plus side, the food itself was perfectly decent, and the BYO policy helps keep the cost down. So the bill (exlcuding drinks) for poppadoms and then mains with rice/naan came to £15 per head.

Rannaghor offers a very traditional menu and reasonable prices. It provides good portion sizes, reasonably presented and without any frills. Service was good and efficient. BYOB only helps keep the overall price down. The nearby public car park is a positive and I may return in a similar size group ( but not as a couple), but prefer the ambience of slightly higher priced restaurants of central Edinburgh

We had a lovely meal, delicious and great quality and value for money. Would recommend and we will return

Nos quedamos muy decepcionados con el mal servicio que recibimos anoche en el restaurante. El camarero era vendernos el momento en el que entramos por la puerta (mesa reservada para 6,30 ) y en esa época sólo tres otras mesas estaban ocupadas. Tardaron 30 minutos para tomar nuestras bebidas/fin de comida, entonces, tomó otra hora para que llegara nuestra comida (sin embargo no todos a la vez) por lo tanto, algunos de los platos estaban haciendo frío. Pudimos ver el motivo del retraso fue que muchos de los clientes había pedido para llevar y que da prioridad a los clientes del restaurante. El camarero se disculpó por el retraso pero no se sentía genuino. El personal debería haber estado en el control y se aseguraron que los clientes del restaurante no estaban siendo afectada por volumen súbito de comida para llevar los pedidos.

Muy decepcionado con el servicio en la última noche resuraunt. Nos sentamos durante 45 minutos con nadie venir a hablar con nosotros o preguntar si queríamos una bebida. Fuimos a Scotmid coque y zumo al final. Al final conseguimos la atención del camarero por teléfono por un orden, diciendo que era para la mesa delante de ellos!! El joven camarero encantador se disculparon por retraso. (No es su culpa), un montón de gente esperando para llevar eran sin duda ser prioridad sobre El restaurante. Los Entrantes vinieron pero sin salsas, tenía que ser pedido. Me dieron entonces popp unas catedrales sin salsas. simplemente poppadoms. No es demasiado bueno. (No me quejo de esto, sólo comimos ellos.) camarero era entonces pedí y después de 10 minutos tuve que pedir otra vez, fue terrible anoche. Parecía muy corto personal con la joven chico que sirve. No tenemos disculpas sin embargo para los retrasos. Es una pena. Creo que volvería a ir de nuevo.

We have been using this fabulous Indian restaurant for years now and never once been disappointed both sitting in and takeaways excellent food and very friendly staff . Ticks all the boxes for us .

Este lugar parece ser bajo relativamente nueva dirección ahora casi un año o más y no es peor para el cambio, porque había comenzado a tobogán un poco. Aunque dijeron que era porque tenía muchos pedidos ... conseguir más personal en un viernes luego. Totalmente impresionado. No comer allí, nunca. Claramente no dan dos hoots el cliente.

Since the recent change of ownership there has been changes to almost everything and has become an excellent eating place. I was most impressed and will definitely eat there in future !

great little local restaurant that does just what it needs too. It can be really busy on a saturday night and you cant always get a table, when you do and it is busy it can take a while to get your order but you will get some poppadoms and dips to keep you going and its never too long. The curry is always LOVELY, the nicest by far of any other restaurant or take away, there is always plenty of meat! The rice is always just right (i often share mine as i cant eat a whole portion) and the naans are big enough to share and always, warm, soft and tasty. Not perfect, but just right for an excuse to get out the house and have some nice food.

We have used the take away frequently over the past few years, however will not use ever again. We ordered a meal for 5 and the delivery driver arrived at the door smoking a cigarette which I didn't think looked great when dealing with food, however I didn't think too much more about it at that point. However after paying the driver and taking the food inside it transpired that the delivery driver had managed to drop cigarette ash all over the delivery bag and its contents. We were absolutely disgusted by this as the ash was ALL over the cartons. I phoned the restaurant and explained what had happened and the customer service was poor to say the least. We will not use ever again as we are completely disgusted that food can be delivered in this state with very little concern by the restaurant.

As our local Indian take out restaurant we order now and again, but as off today we won't be again! The gentleman on the phone hang up on us 3 times and we phoned back and each time he was more interested in what was going on at his end, on the final return call we canceled the order!We've have on previous times had uncooked rice, 2 hour waits for a delivery, over an hours wait at the restaurant on a couple of occasions for phoned in collections, wrong orders and even NO meat in our meals. Really disappointed as the food is usually very nice. But they have now lost our business!

Food nice but they can't deliver! Being told an hour for 1 mile and then it doesn't come again after an hour and half, and kids have passed out, not good. Chip shop tea for us, disappointed

There were 9 of us dining - excellent service and food. Staff were very friendly and went out of there way to ensure we had a lovely evening on our special family occasion. As it's BYOB, this made it especially good value.

Unfortunately my experience has been mixed. When the food is good, it is really good, but I have on more than one occasion found the food to be very bland, which is a shame, because the place itself is great, the staff are lovely, and I have had some really nice evenings's there. The food has always been very good while dining in. It is the carry out service that I have felt has let down the standard. I mentioned this to a staff member after a disappointing meal which for a large family, was expensive, and the guy could not have been more helpful. He said he would speak to the chef and make sure some changes would be made. I placed an order and the food was very nice, as it always used to be when the rannaghor first opened. unfortunately the next time round, it was once again tasteless bland, and a waste of money. I'm sorry that I no longer feel happy about spending my money there.

Great place. Mixed pakora lovely and fresh both chicken and lamb dishes very tasty, rice and nan bread - perfect. Plus really good service and BYOB with no corkage charge and very reasonably priced. Would have to say much much better than some of the more "famous" indian restaurants that are found in the centre of Edinburgh. Worth traveling out for.

Don't be put off by the location at the back of some shops. This place is a real gem. Staff very attentive and polite. Food excellent, prices very good and it's byob! Wonderful for sitting in or takeaway. Maybe not for a special occasion but I've paid lots more elsewhere for meals way below these standards.

My husband and I have just had a lovely meal again in this restaurant for my birthday. We have tried both the sit in option and the takeaway option over the last few years and we have NEVER had a bad meal - it has always been delicious. Tonight was no exception - the food is really tasty and the portions are generous. The staff are very friendly and attentive and make for a very relaxed atmosphere. I would recommend that you try this restaurant.

We recently re-tried this restaurant after finding our usual, more commonly known Indian takeaways, a bit stale! Wow!, they've really stepped it up a gear. Food absolutely delicious- probably on the spicer side of what to expect though, which suits us. We've now tried it again three times since and that has only confirmed our thoughts. Better than Guru, Delta etc and the team seem really keen to please. Sauces seem authentic and less "fluorescent" than other takeways and now we've got our friends on board. Keep it up guys!

This restaurant has been open for a few years and to be honest was only ever a average takeaway which offered a BYOB sit in option, the staff where always friendly and keen to please. my partner and I hadn't been for a while until last August when we went in, we couldn't believe the change in the standard of food, a new menu and high quality meals, fresh tasting flavours, I dont know what happened? new chef or management? but whatever it was, worked! the food here will rival anything i've tasted in other restaurants and costs alot less. a great little place for night out some fab food BYOB and great staff, cant praise it enough.
