Went to Rania, now renamed Malabar on Friday. Food was delicious and some different dishes to the usual. Service was great with happy smiling staff. The revamp of the premises has been mild but smart and clean and definite improvement. Would definitely recommend a visit.

After many months and a change of ownership we ventured back to this local Indian restaurant last night. Pleasantly surprised! Apart from a ‘tidy up’ to improve kerb appeal, the dining area itself looks relatively unchanged. An unusually short menu for a typical curry house, but everything we tried was cooked really well and with a slight twist on the same old…. Chicken Tikka Massala is offered as mild or spicy and the spicy version does exactly what it says on the tin and was delicious. We met the new owner, very much in evidence throughout the evening. He and his team are friendly, experienced and welcoming. Good value. A final drink on the house and chocolates a nice touch too. We will be back!

Upmarket place , nice decor and atmosphere , probably what you expect in Surrey being in an affluent area and closer to London than I usually get. Good staff and service. Food great , just what we needed . Interesting menu with chefs specials which I always avoid , being a dedicated bhuna eater , which I ought to do something about.

I’m a curry snob and this was one of the best made and tastiest Indian meals I’ve had in years! A Tava Chicken made with fresh spices, ‘pumped up’ to madras heat; and a fabulous Keema Naan on the side. I can’t say enough about this meal, the flavours were obvious and the chilli just right. We will definitely be returning here. The staff were excellent, too. Recommended!

Visit Rania often. Repeated visits because the food is consistently great and the service is excellent. The Lahore lamb is not on any other menus I know and is so tasty. They will adjust an order to suit like we want to order eg garlic rice. Generally the staff are very friendly, and the manager Shahab is most convivial.

My husband and I visited with 3 friends for a quiet evening meal and catch up. We had booked a table, but when we arrived at the restaurant many of the tables were empty. We were put on a table next to a party of about 12 people. This might have been ok but the party got quite loud. In hindsight we should have asked for another table when we arrived. After we had eaten our main course, which was very tasty, the staff offered to move us to a quieter table and we could finally have a conversation. Maybe the restaurant staff could consider filling tables further from parties when they are not full

Really poor. We were so looking forward to a takeaway and spent most of the afternoon discussing what we were going to have. This restaurant struggles with even the basics! I’ve never had a tikka masala that tastes like Heinz tomato soup before! Watery thin sauce and overall really poor quality. Saag paneer had 2 pieces of cheese in and was overpowered by garlic. A grand total of 3 hairs (not ours) pulled out. We will not be returning and after spending near on £140 for a takeaway for 8, I feel we would have been better off with a supermarket microwave meal. The only reason I’ve given 2 stars is that one of the dishes was a lamb madras and this was palatable.

We have been going to Rania consistently for the past year and it’s a real joy every time we’re there. The team and owner always make sure that our experience is second to none and we can see that this level of service is also extended to every other table. The food is of a very high standard, with a great selection of dishes for dinner and lunch. I strongly recommend this great restaurant and why not book during one of their special live band event

I looked at their on line menu before I went and opted for a meat Madras at £8.75. When I arrived at the restaurant I found the menu was very limited and the Madras wasn't on it. So when I enquired about it I was told that they could prepare one for me but the waiter kept on referring to it as a special curry. I tried to explain that I just wanted a Madras and wasn't interested in a special curry but when I tried to find out what the difference was the waiters ability to understand English seemed to become very limited so I just felt that I had to accept that the Special curry was going to be like a Madras. It did seem to be like a Madras but was charged £15.50 for it instead of £8.75. I realise now that this is a deception and thats why the waiter kept on referring to it as the special curry. I won't be going back again.

Dined here on Saturday evening with daughter and family friends… greeted by first name and received a very warm welcome. Directed to a great table by the bifold doors (was also offered another table away from the doors) which had all been opened, perfect for the summer evening. Big tables, extremely comfortable chairs, plus linen tablecloths and napkins. Staff are super attentive without it feeling intrusive and so polite, friendly and smiling… this makes dining here a real pleasure. They make delicious cocktails and are quick to serve poppadoms, and chutney trays, to nibble on whilst choosing main dishes. The food is incredible… recommend the Railway Lamb. All dishes were piping hot and everything was delicious. The naan breads were super fresh and the servings are the perfect size. Good value, great fresh food, fabulous staff, perfect location too. Highly recommend Rania.

We decided to book Rania for long overdue friends meet-up. I usually opt for the Curry Inn as I've never had a bad curry there but we decided to go here for a change. All in all, I was bitterly disappointed. The service was very poor - had to chase for my beer twice, food took about fifty minutes to come out and when it did it wasn't massively hot. It was very mediocre: the supposed peshwari naan had little to no filling, the poppadoms were very expensive too, and the specials certainly didn't warrant an almost hour wait. The staff were obviously overrun and it showed. There is an obvious lack of self awareness on the part of the restaurant if they think a 10 percent service charge was really warranted by this catastrophic service. They lumped it on as a matter of course - I was tempted to ask for it to be removed.I will stick to Curry Inn in future.

I've not been to Rania before and came on the recommendation of a good friend (a bit of a connoisseur of Indian restaurants!). I came with an open mind, as reviews have been mixed. I was pleasantly surprised. The decor is relaxed, the waiters attentive but not pushy or abrupt in any way. The food, Poppadoms and a main course with sides (for me, the Mixed Grill, a Mushroom Bhagi & a Tarka Dal) was of good flavour, a good quantity and nicely dressed with chopped corriander. My friend says he always has Chicken Tikka Masala, with rice and and a naan. Again, nicely and delicately flavoured.

Myself and my boyfriend booked a table as this restaurant for New Years Eve. The restaurant happily took our booking for 21:30. We were running a little behind and arrived at the restaurant at 21:45. We were greeted by a less than welcoming waiter and informed him that we had a table for two booked apologising for running a little behind. He appeared irritated and asked if we had a booking which we confirmed again. He looked at his watch and informed us that we would need to order and have eaten our food within the hour. I apologised again and offered to leave it if it was going to cause them any inconvenience. He ignored this and showed us to our table. Conscious of the time restriction, we looked for the menus so that we could promptly order but there were none to be seen either on our table or the tables around us. We waited patiently for 10 minutes before a waitress came over & apologised for the slow service asking if we'd like to order any drinks. We asked for a menu and we ordered a glass of red wine, a beer and a couple of poppadoms as a starter. Conscious that we did not want to delay the restaurant, we ordered a main each with rice at the same time. Looking around, despite the fact that it was New Years Eve, the restaurant was less than half full and the waiting staff appeared relaxed. There were lots of empty tables around us that were left uncleared with previous customers dirty plates, leftover food and dirty drinks glasses. It did not give a good impression. 15 minutes later our drinks appeared without the poppadoms and after another 10 minutes our poppadoms had still not appeared. We had been in the restaurant around half an hour by now. We became aware that the table of 4 next to us had ordered their food (mains only) over 2 hours ago and were still waiting! We decided that we had seen and heard enough & asked if we could pay for our drinks as we wanted to leave. The same unwelcoming waiter that had shown us to our table tried to prevent us from leaving stating that we had ordered food and we were obliged to stay. My boyfriend calmly & politely told him that we would like to just pay for our drinks and leave, The waiter then said that he could have our food out to us within 15 minutes. Bearing in mind that the poor table next to us had been waiting over two hours for their food and looking around at the numerous dirty tables littering the restaurant, we were not convinced that staying & dining here would be in our best interests! We were charged £15 for two drinks, paid and left.Having recently moved to Cranleigh and being great lovers of Indian Cuisine, we were both very much looking forward to dining at Rania. However, we were left very disappointed & will never return here again or recommend this restaurant to family or friends.

Warning - if you order a take away, make sure you check it before leaving the restaurant. I picked up the order on my way home from work. Not for the first time, I got home only to discover that an item was missing. The waiter on the end of the phone was rude and belligerent, and told me to come and pick up the missing item. I asked him to deliver, which he said he'd do, but then when he discovered I lived about 7 miles away told me my order was collection only! I told him that I would have to make a 40 minute round trip and my food would be ruined. He then went on about how they had upgraded our starter (which we hadn't wanted!) and I could have a free onion bhagee next time! Finally he agreed to deliver after I got rather annoyed. The delivery driver arrived half way through the meal and realised he'd forgotten the item, then returned nearly an hour later (nearly two hours after I'd picked up the original order!) after we'd finished eating with the item!

The restaurant was freezing cold, our table was next to a tiny heater when we commented on how cold the place was the waiter said there are so many windows we can't warm the place up.

Food was good but I found the manner of some of the waiters less than friendly - they could well do with smiling a bit more.

First time visit - definitely won’t be returning and not for us. Layout and decor are cold and uninviting, very very dark and dingy.

Ate at Rania both Saturday and Sunday night on our visit to Cranleigh for the Surrey Hillls cycle sportive. Had four different main and side dishes which we all enjoyed. Atmosphere is pleasant and the service is good. Would eat here again.

Called in for an early door curry on a Saturday night. The restaurant is nicely fitted out and a decent selection on the menu. My curry was excellent, my wife's, less so but still perfectly edible. However we were served by an eclectic mix of waiters/waitresses who on the whole were inexperienced leading to a polite but slightly awkward experience. All said I enjoyed the meal and would recommend a visit if you are in the area.

Had take away a few times from here. Very good fresh tasting food. I had the chicken saag palak today which I have never had before and it was the best curry I have ever tasted. Absolutely delicious!!Only reason not 5 stars is the onion bhajis are not great, taste too floury and not crispy enough, everything else has been perfect!

Had a girls night out and tried several different dishes, all of which were tasty and unique in flavour. The service was impeccable and that added to the perfect evening out. The atmosphere at the restaurant is relaxed and of a high standard. I was very impressed by the variety of dishes on the menu. There is definitely something for everyone. Its the perfect place for a celebration or simply an evening out for some good quality Indian dishes. I will definitely be visiting again. This is a real gem of a place.

We love this Indian restaurant and travel from Horsham most weekends. The food is excellent and the waiters quick helpful and friendly. There are some different items on the menu that you don't see in other Indian restaurants. The chairs are comfy and the setting is spacious so you don't feel that your conversations are being over heard. We would love it even more if they were to introduce monthly or weekly specials to the menu for a bit of variety.Keep up the good work

My friend and I came to try out the new brunch menu and we both selected the Bao Bun dish. It was a delicious combination of soft sweet bun, savoury marinated pork and crispy apple fritter topped with sirachi mayo and coriander. Very satisfying indeed! We also ordered prawn crackers and their signature Thai iced tea (with condensed milk and tapioca pearls) for extra texture. Perfect as a filling lunch that lasted us until evening 😋 Will definitely be returning to try out the other options on the brunch menu! The staff were friendly and attentive too which made the atmosphere most welcoming 🙏

We celebrated a 70th birthday with a superb lunch in a beautiful room upstairs. The room was very cozy, private and smart looking. The food was delicious. The staff very efficient and helpful

Take away last night and except the rice which was ok - other 3 dishes were very poor and we couldn’t eat them -won’t be using this place again
