Rangrez London - Authentic Indian Cuisine in Hammersmith and Fulham

Average Indian food. Good decor. Service needs to improve, the waiter didn't know what was on the menu.

Poor food quality. Very little taste. We were fairly convinced the butter chicken was tomato soup with a few spices. The garlic nann was essentially a flatbread with a lot of raw garlic on top that had been grilled but not enough to cook the garlic. I definitely don't recommend.

We visited this restaurant 4 years ago, we loved it so much we recommended it to our in laws last evening. We were greeted with a very rude arrogant staff member as we passed 2 dirty tables to our table. No people in the restaurant so no excuse apart from chatting to other staff members which they deem to be more important than a clean restaurant. The QR code menu is a joke, we walked out and went to the Duke of Cornwall and were so impressed by the quality of the food and the staff interaction. AVOID

Shocking experience. I took my Dad here for his birthday after a day out in London, and should have known by the restaurant being empty but somehow they had a 4.1 star rating online and it was close to the tube station so we went in. The menu was limited and presented on an iPad. Only 2 varieties of rice were on the menu. The poppadoms were shocking - I would say supermarket quality but I wouldn’t want to offend supermarkets. We shared a couple of curries which tasted ok, but in all honesty they tasted the same as a ready meal from Sainsbury’s. The rice had to have been microwaved too. The staff weren’t great, one member came over to ask if we’d like more and we said no. I should have raised an issue then about the food quality, but quite frankly didn’t see what could be done. The limited menu and the fact the quality was so poor meant there was no way they were going to bring out a nice curry. When I asked for the bill, the manager came over and we raised the fact that the meal was really poor quality and that we weren’t happy. I wish I had taken pictures as we had left a fair amount of food (which when you see how small the portions are shows how gross it was). She kicked off shouting about how we had eaten the meat so there’s nothing she can do about the bill - would she have reused the meat had it been left? She reluctantly took off the service charge and I paid. Overall the meal was a huge disappointment. It was a shame to have experienced this on a special occasion. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone - you’d be better off getting a microwave meal or perhaps heading down the road to the 3.5 star rated Palace Tandoori as there’s little chance it could be worse than Rangrez.

Reply to the response from the restaurant I appreciate your response, but I’d like to clarify a few points. Firstly, our plates were not empty—the chilli chicken wasn’t finished, the rice and vindaloo were barely touched, and there was still fish pakora left. It’s quite common for diners to be polite when asked about their meal, but that doesn’t mean the food was enjoyable. Secondly, regarding the service charge, I did not cause a scene. I simply questioned the charge, which—despite what you claim—is not legally compulsory in the UK. You did not state at any point it was compulsory. The other diners in the restaurant (just one other couple) agreed that customers have the right to refuse a service charge. In fact, I personally apologised to them for the situation. You also failed to address my other key complaint—the temperature of the restaurant. It was so cold that my wife kept her coat on throughout the meal, and despite being told the heating would be adjusted, nothing changed. Lastly, if you look at my Google review history, you’ll see that I rarely complain. In fact, this was the first time in years that I refused to pay a service charge. I am usually a very generous tipper, but service needs to be earned. Rather than dismissing feedback with inaccuracies, I’d encourage you to reflect on the points raised. Acknowledging genuine issues would go a lot further than a defensive response. Disappointing Experience at Rangrez After the theatre, we decided to try Rangrez, as the reviews seemed promising. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to expectations. I’ve dined at many restaurants and enjoyed plenty of wine, but I’ve never been told that they only serve 125ml glasses at £7.49, which isn’t cheap. When I questioned this, pointing out that 175ml and 250ml are more common measures, the server insisted that 125ml is the standard everywhere. Rather than paying over the odds for small pours, I opted to buy the bottle for £28. Another frustrating aspect was the digital-only menu, which required scanning a QR code. It was difficult to navigate and made ordering unnecessarily complicated. Now, onto the food—the fish pakora was dry and of poor quality, and the vindaloo lacked depth and flavour, tasting disappointingly familiar. Overall, it was underwhelming. Adding to the discomfort, the restaurant was freezing. My wife kept her coat on the entire meal. The staff mentioned they would adjust the heating, but nothing changed. Perhaps if there had been more than four customers (including us), it might have felt a bit warmer. When it came time to pay, I questioned the service charge, as there had been little to no service. The first staff member insisted it was compulsory, but thankfully, another (who seemed to be in charge) allowed us to remove it. Would we return? Mmm… no. But at least it made for a memorable evening!

Expensive compulsory service charge. Also no menus so got to use a QR code and access from your phone so not good for some people. Food was nice though although portions not large.

Enjoyed a yummy dinner today ! Fab taste and fast and courteous service ! Aloo tiki , and veg biriyani were top notch ! Would definitely recommend to friends and would visit again for sure with family ! Thanks team 👏👏💯💯

Very nice indian restaurant close to Hammersmith tube station. Delicious dishes, nice atmosphere and friendly waitress. I highly recommend.

What a wonderful find! Just checked into our hotel and needed a meal. Service is wonderful and friendly. The menu is not overwhelming like some Indian restaurants. The food is so tasty. Had a fish curry to die for. Everything else was the same great quality. Garlic nan was the best. Will be back next time we're in London. Thanks for the great meal.

Decent food. Food is on the spicy side. I specifically mentioned not spicy, but I guess standards are different. I had to order curd to subdue the amount of red chilli in the food. Very friendly service. The other customers when I was there completely spoilt the ambience. They were making such a din and swearing constantly. Literally every second word they were saying was foul. I was praying it wouldn't convert into a brawl and felt the urge to eat quickly and leave. I cannot imagine bringing family with kids to such a place. Thankfully I was alone. I pity the staff for having to deal with such people.

I have been to Rangerz many times. Today's visit was a huge disappointment. Food was was not it's usual standard. We ordered two chilli paneer both dishes were different !? Slow service, portions much much smaller, food taste and quality was below what we experienced in my many last visits. Was a regular visitor, highly unlikely to recommend or visit anytime soon Edited in reply to owners comments: 1) pattern?! we have never raised issues at time of paying, in the past or in our last visit. You are being untruthful. In the past we have never had a reason to raise issues as we always complimented the food. As a regular customer, we have often had pleasant conversation with the regular man in charge, but you wouldn't know this....would you? 2) we raised our concerns during the meal, where the nan was not cooked properly. A replacement dish was ordered, we politely declined. We also questioned if there had been a change in management or chef as the food taste was different, again during the meal! 3) I was polite, had a nice conversation with the lady serving us. At no time was I rude, abusive or disrespectful towards yourself or the staff. I have many times visited your establishment as the food has always been very good, recommended it to family and friends. However, in my last few visits service has been poor. Whilst I chose not to edit my previous 4* rating, I did change this following my visit yesterday. You comment you expect "genuine feedback, honest and fair" but you yourself are not any of these in your reply. Service was slow -fact Portion sizes smaller - fact Taste - not the same, fact This is a genuine, honest and fair feedback about the food and service.You are being dishonest in your comments, which speaks volumes about how you choose to react to negative feedback. As to any misconduct by the previous manager/individual - we have NEVER received free/complimentary food. False claims ?! I'm not not claiming anything. I do not make false reviews. If anyone is being dishonest here, it certainly is not me. My review was based on my visit yesterday. You are throwing wild, ridiculous and unsubstantiated comments. There are other reviews of similar nature by other regular visitors. Oh wait, silly me, guess they are wrong and false too!

Popped in before a gig and had a delicious quick meal from really friendly staff. It's very obviously a family run place and quite reasonable for London, we had two courses for two people for £60. We really liked the balance of flavours and delicate spicing, it was a bit different to our usual takeaway, and the crispy butter naan was just glorious, I could happily eat that with their onion bhajis every day. There were more vegan and veggie options than meat I think, so if that's your preference you'll be well catered for.

Excellent chicken kadai. I ordered with a paratha and garlic Naan. They were overcooked and I should have sent them back.....but then again they should never have been brought out.

Service - we were sat in the middle seat, which meant the waitress could not serve the tables behind and to the right of us, making us move whilst eating so they could serve food and drink We had to ask three times for our bill They poured very small glasses of wine at 7:49 and then tried to give us a cheap nasty wine for our second glass which we sent back, they only replaced one of our two glasses with the wine we asked for Food- terrible, five pieces of lamb in the lamb rogan Josh, food was like a microwave meal with water in the rice, no flavour and bland/watery Atmosphere- seemed good staff were happily barging into us to serve them

Will never visit this restaurant again because I saw a student crying because the owner did not pay her salary. This is how they manage to buy big cars and houses. Shame on them.

Decent food and some good veggie/vegan options. There definitely are some better Indian places in London but overall not a bad option if you’re in the area.

Nothing really authentic about this restaurant. Food lacked real flavour and did not taste fresh, either very salty or no salt at all across multiple non-veg & veg dishes. Portion size is minimal giving the prices they charge. Toilets were unhygienic and in a very bad state, looked like they hadn’t been cleaned for weeks, with duct tape holding up a lot of the fixtures and wiring/piping hanging from the ceiling. Staff were initially accommodating however as our food came out, lacked basic waitering skills. Was charged a service charge, and do not think this reflected the service provided. Will not be visiting again as far better options locally at a better price.

Really nice place! Very good food! More on the authentic side than almost anything else I tried outside of Tooting, Wembley or Hounslow. For that alone I'd like to give 100 stars! Butter chicken tastes how it should, not like some weird sweet tomato sauce. Heads off, honestly. Would almost say the best butter chicken I had outside of India, and I had MANY. Also approved by my Indian partner who's dish was also great! Super friendly and attentive service too. I'm very happy I found this place and I don't need to travel so far any more whenever I crave Indian. 100% recommend!

I have tasted much better curries from the ready-made supermarket options. The chicken had a texture like tofu, and although the lamb dish was edible, everything about the meal was massively underwhelming and overpriced. I had to make a visit to the toilets, which were in terrible, unclean conditions. I tried to turn the tap on to wash my hands, and it nearly fell off. The only good thing I can say is that the service by the staff on the night was excellent. Pity about the food!!!

Unplanned visit and so pleasantly surprised by the quality. The tandoori roti was the best I've had in ages (including India) and paneer was top notch. Thanks Sushil for the high quality food and hospitality. Highly recommended!

This place is over hyped. Great decor but the menu is not great. The wine is false advertising as an Italian pinot grigio but was given a chilian wine i can get at the supermarket for 6 pounds. ... The food was OK until we got a bill with 13.5 percent service charge for 2 people which is insane. Will never come back. The waitress was very pleasant I hope she gets the service charge

The food portions were small, didn’t get what we ordered, tasted bad and took forever to come out. The staff tried to be helpful, but many didn’t know what they were doing, or basic things like where the toilets were.

I recently visited this restaurant with family expecting to have a nice evening meal and unfortunately, it was a letdown from start to finish. Also it ruined our evening, not happy. For the £53 we spent, I expected a high standard, but the food fell far below expectations. Every dish seemed poorly prepared, lacking in flavor, and did not reflect the price at all. It felt like a complete waste of money, and I left feeling disappointed and unsatisfied. If you’re looking for quality food that justifies the cost, I’d recommend looking elsewhere.

I recently dined at Rangrez Restaurant and was quite disappointed. The service was slow, with our server seeming overwhelmed and inattentive. The food was underwhelming; the flavors were bland and lacked the vibrant spices typically associated with Indian cuisine. My dish was overcooked, and the naan was stale. Additionally, the cleanliness of the restaurant left much to be desired, with dirty tables and a cluttered atmosphere. Overall, my experience was far from enjoyable, and I don’t think I’ll be returning.

My recent visit to Rangrez was a big letdown. The food was bland, and the quality didn’t match the hype. To make matters worse, I found a hair in the bread, which was incredibly off-putting. When I brought it to the owner’s attention, I expected an apology, but instead, he was aggressive and defensive. This lack of professionalism, combined with the poor taste and quality, made for an unpleasant experience. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant if you're looking for quality Indian cuisine or good customer service.

Absolutely disgusting no hygiene

I don't think 8 pounds for a beer and 12 euros for service suddenly appear on the bill is right. Otherwise very friendly and ok.

I dropped in on route to a gig. Was a nice find. The food was good quality. They missed an item of my order and was I a rush so I opted for them not to make it. Overall a really warm experience

spotted rats entering the kitchen and overall too, the place is very unhygienic! Unwashed cutlery and grimy salad.. Fell ill after eating here. The food was stale and lacked any flavour. The service was slow even though there were barely any people. The staff themselves sat at the better seats at 730 pm dinner time talking loudly on the phone.. No quality at all, a dreadful experience, best avoid.

Great quick service just before the show

A bittersweet experience. I picked a lunch thali for £11.95 and referred to the menu when I ordered it. When the bill came I was charged £17.95. I queried this with the waitress and was told that prices had been increased but the menu didn’t reflect them as yet. What?! I won’t be returning (despite the lovely waitress and nice food) as the issue with the bill just felt wrong.

I have been going to Rangrez for over 5 years now and the place is still as friendly and welcoming as I remember. The food is fantastic value, the only thing I would say is the restaurant is a little cold! This time we had takeaway and got butter chicken, daal makhani and saag aloo. All were great and healthy portion sizes.
