Great to find a restaurant open at lunchtime. Visited yesterday with my cousin and returned today with my son. I'll start with just one negative - prawns were nicely cleaned, but the tail was left on which when hidden in rice was unexpected. That said the food is really delicious, especially the Aloo chaat. Staff warm and friendly - nice relaxing lunch. Will be back!

Very delicious North Indian Cuisine i have tasted in Swindon, I would 100 %recommend, the prices are reasonable, the services is good. Must try their daal makhani, all the dishes are individual with different tastes. Their starters and desserts (carrot halwa) are yummy too.

I visited this restaurant on a Saturday evening as we were passing through Swindon. It seemed busy for app based deliveries and takeaways but we were the only people dining in. Staff were very friendly and polite. The butter chicken, butter naan, Masala papad were brilliant. The tandoori chicken from the grill was perfect to the core. The place has an all woman crew at the front which was a welcome surprise. Overall I was very impressed and would definitely recommend without hesitation.

Before the pandemic, New Delhi was our go to hang out place with friends. Now, we either order food online or pick it up ourselves. Their menu is elaborate. Although the serving time is long, the food is worth the wait! We especially are a huge fan of their paneer tikka, jackfruit biryani, gobhi manchurian, & tandoori roti. The taste is authentic & the portion size good. However, the food sometimes is too oily. Overall, a good place to enjoy Indian food.

My family and I visited New Delhi restaurant in Swindon for lunch. Upon entering we were hit with an extremely strong and overpowering scent of incense which wasn’t the best start. We were greeted by a very friendly young lady who seated us. We decided to have chilli panner and mix grill for starter which was ok. We had a few different dishes for main course which were all ok but nothing to write home about. The young lady recommended the filled paratha which were very nice. Overall, we felt the food didn’t meet our expectation. We have been lucky enough to visit many Indian restaurants over the years but i would say this one falls short of taste and quality. The price seem inflated for quality of food served . The saving grace was the waitress. She was friendly, personal, charismatic, knowledgeable about the menu and nothing was to much trouble.

We dropped in on a Saturday night without a reservation, and were pleasantly surprised that they had some free tables and could offer us one! However, there was only one waitress, who seemed to be trying to do front of house/'meet and greet', plus serving drinks AND taking food orders. We ordered a bottle of white wine, starters and main courses, but after 20 minutes our bottle of wine still hadn't arrived - it takes mere seconds to grab a bottle from the fridge and place it on a table. If drinks are delivered, customers are usually happy to wait for the food - even if it's slow to arrive. Plus giving the customers their drink "locks" them in - they are committed to staying at that point. The group of four people on the table next to us had been waiting for absolutely ages and still hadn't managed to even order a drink. This did not bode well! We've had very slow service in New Delhi before, but this was a ridiculous amount of time without even a drink. They definitely need to address their staffing levels during busier periods. After 20 minutes, we decided to cut our losses, cancelled our order with an apology, and left.

They say not to judge a book by its cover, and thats the case with the this restaurant as well. One should not be put off by the unremarkable shop-frontage, step inside and a very nicely appointed, modern restaurant awaits. The first nice surprise came when soon after being seated I was presented with a decanter of still water at the table, without even having asked (this was not billed at the end!). Perfect, as this is the healthiest drink and what I would have asked for anyhow. A glance at the menu quickly told me that I was not sitting in a typical BRITISH-indian restaurant offering the same standard dishes we have come to know over the decades. This was clearly a restaurant offering authentic indian dishes, and one could also verify this in the taste of the food itself. The waitress was very friendly and service very fast. All food was fantastic, right down to the clearly home-made dips, for which I was tempted to ask for the recipe! An encouraging sign on entering, was that indian people were also customers!Food was served at an agreeable tempo, neither coming too fast or having to wait too long between courses. Rather surprising was being asked whether I wanted my dish (Prawn Molly) mild, medium or spicy. This is a question typically asked in Germany in Indian restaurants and it was rather wrong-footing to be asked this in England, for the first time. My response was - authentic please, as it would be in the region the dish comes from!I can recommend this to anyone who loves indian food. If all you know is Chicken Tikka Masala, be prepared to try something you have never had before. I am pretty sure you won't be dissapointed. Everything tasted very fresh, and homemade and not in any way artificial. A thoroughly recommendable restaurant!

We went to this restaurant with some Indian friends of ours who really raved about the quality of the food and they weren’t wrong. The food was the best Indian food we’ve tasted in a very long time. We shared a mixed platter and a fish platter to start with and these were fantastic - beautifully presented, tender pieces of meat, full of flavour and the salmon was divine. The mains were just as good - you could taste the fresh ginger and garlic in the Lamb Karahi so good were the ingredients and the Butter Chicken was stunning. We honestly can’t recommend this restaurant enough, the waitress was delightful, the cost of the food was really reasonable and the food was mouth-watering. Can’t wait to return!

It was whilst we were eating our starters that the( very nice) lady came to take our mains orders. The food was mediocre at best, but it was the service that really let the place down. We don't eat out often but we do like the occasional over indulgence of a Sunday curry buffet. We were headed for the Gurka Village place in Gorse Hill but found that has closed - then cruised through Swindon desperate to eat and New Deli to the rescue. Looked into the place and it was empty - not a good sign but needs must. The staff were very friendly and we were very soon tucking into a very authentic range of dishes. Nann breads were brought piping hot and too many visits to the spread were undertaken. yep it is not the most luxurious layout but it's the food that counts.

We've been here when it was called the Rangoli, and now it is called "New Delhi"... not sure if there are other changes in the kitchen?!Anyway, our recent visit was a result of a Groupon voucher and we had a lovely meal and good service. The menu is definitely "Indian", but there are some differences throughout that make the meals an interesting alternative to the standard Indian restaurant. On the way to the restaurant our taxi driver provided some commentary... "this is the only restaurant in Swindon with an Indian chef, most are from Bangladesh" he said. I've no idea if this is true?! He also said "local Indian people eat there" which I can support as over 50% of the visitors to the restaurant appeared of Indian descent (guessing of course, I don't know for sure) and with families. All in all, a nice night out, a great meal, and good staff too.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

Ok so I travel a lot on my own and end up bored in restaurants (actually just as I am now). I can play games on the iPhone but Words with Friends is dull if all one's friends are busy or less sad. But last night in Swindon I discovered a new game - just how cheap can I eat out on expenses (I know, it sounds sad but one needs a hobby - I did spend my time previously collating notes and writing a book about Curry Houses across the length and breadth of Britain (as I said I travel a lot) and it's still available to download for Kindle - Tandoori Nights, but careful there is a smutty novella with the same title and try explaining that to the wife. Mine is more Clarkson on Curry. But I am not soon to retire on the royalties). So thanks New Delhi - a filling meal and a pint of Cobra for £12.95 and a new game too. I don't do "all you can eat" buffets - too worried about hygiene; lack of suitably spicy choice and the danger of becoming 35 stone or American. Staff at New Delhi was gently insistent (well chef had gone to all that effort after all) and I broke resolve and agreed. Well, let's push the boat out then. I had a popadum with tomato / chilli and mango chutney as a pre-starter. Then I had a mix of tandoori chicken, chicken tikka, sheek kebab, chicken samosa and vegetable pakora - doesn't that just sound dandy ...and it was. I was concerned about the buffet's lack of fire so l had already asked for a vindaloo sauce to accompany my main course. It wasn't that hot but it was, surprisingly, free. From the main course buffet I can't remember everything that I ate (but with Mr Spock like self control I only went back once for some rice and a little more of the lovely Mutter Paneer). I do recall a lamb and chick pea dish, mixed vegetables, chicken and red pepper, a couple of chapatis and the aforementioned lovely Mutter Paneer). I expect that there was more. So while I wouldn't have chosen any of the dishes on the buffet I enjoyed myself and limped away replete (the limping is a different story all together involving a 20kg sea kayak, a drop of 2m and my big toe). Staff was friendly bordering on overly so - as a single diner I am more used to sneaking in and out in a Larkin-like thief in the night manner. One young chap attached himself to my table and would not shift until he had my entire life story. IF I'd wanted that level of attention and conversation I would have gone hungry to Spearmint Rhino. Don't let it put you off though - it's probably me that's odd. So, full for less than £13 and I could have stayed for at least another three pints to and still been within my expense allowance - shame I wasn't that thirsty. Recommended, highly. And a new game is born - how low can you go, be satisfied and not die?Incidentally, for additional context I am prone to such games ... Whilst working at Ordnance Survey and in a seditious response to the expense police's refusal to pay for a packet of wine gums that one of my team chose for lunch (he was busy and contrary to current health and safety advice drove on through lunch fortified by said glucose rich confectionary as they did not consider it appropriate as a luncheon, I developed a new game ... Who can get the silliest lunch item through the expense police? I came second with a jar of Patak's Vindaloo Sauce but Roger won, he claimed and was recompensed for a chamois leather. Yum yum.

So everyone has their favourite Indian restaurant and this one is mine. I have dined her twice and I have had multiple takeaways from here since its original opening as Rangoli. The food was fantastic then and it continues to shine. The food we chose tonight was the Daal Makhni, the Malai Kofta, Pilau rice, Ajwani lachha Paratha (bread with carom seeds) the vegetable samosas and finally the Tangdi Kebab. This was my first time back since the relaunch, eagerly awaiting to see if there had been any recent reviews since July last year when it had received a 2 on the Food Standards Agency website. Having picked up directly from their restaurant I was greeted warmly by the head of house. He asked me how my day was and it made me feel as though they really care about their customers. The Daal was amazing. A nice creamy lightly spiced and delicious Lentil based curry, it is a firm favourite of mine when we cook it at home. This one differs to our but adds a better twist to the regular Vegetarian dish. Accompanying that I had the Malai Kofta - a "cottage cheese dumpling in a rich cashew & tomato sauce". This was also to die for. The sauce was very similar to that of a Tikka Masala dish but less sugary so it had impressed me more than ever. Mopping up with a Ajwani lachha Paratha slice it was a perfect foil to the curry sauce. The vegetable samosas were quite filling. The middle was crammed with vegetable mix but what impressed me the most, and helped me to become convinced that this restaurant excels from its predecessor, Rangoli, is the thickness of the casing. The outside of the Samosa was very similar to the texture of a pie crust. Nice and thick, receiving 2 per serving was plenty.I want to give this company a top 5 star rating and recommend it but it would be hard to do so after the bad press it had received last year through the Food Standards Agency. It is hard to feel overly confident whether this restaurant is hitting the 4/5 mark. I am routing for this great restaurant, I will continue to buy from here, the food was divine and you can really see that they are always striving to do better.

Based on a recommendation we visited the New Delhi. The promise of genuine Indian food was borne out by both the food and the clientele, mostly middle class Indian customers. You won't find that in many Swindon Indian restaurants. As in most parts of the country, 'Indian' restaurants are often Bangladeshi in food and ownership. Here though it was Indian through and through, attentive service and the option of a self-serve buffet for £9.95 Monday to Friday. The buffet suited three of us but my wife avoids spicy food and asked for a chicken korma which was served with no extra charge for eating off menu. Strongly recommended.

There were some excellent, varied and subtle tastes which are not always evident in many restaurants we have previously used. The Aloo Tikka was particularly delicious. Dennis looked after us admirably, and all of the waiters were extremely attentive. A special mention for the chef and all concerned in making our evening a memorable one. We will return!

I attended a corporate event at New Delhi and was so impressed with the food and the friendly service. Sanjay was an amazing host, he was very friendly and took the time to share some interesting details about some of the traditional dishes on the menu for the evening. The food was absolutely delicious and the staff was very attentive! Great place!

We had a fantastic Corporate event at the New Dehli this week. Sanjay had put together a really great menu for our team from across Europe. As people got their food, he was there to explain the history and flavours of each dish. Even hardened curry lovers learned something new and were raving about the quality of the food. All 6 starters were forms of Indian "street food" and were so good, we nearly didn't have room for the main courses which included railway lamb curry, butter chicken, chicken jalfrezi and a vegetarian option along with side dishes, rice and various breads.I would absolutely recommend this restaurant for a fun, tasty and affordable work or family event. Thank you Sanjay and the team!

After refurbishment following flooding, we visited the New Delhi on quite busy Saturday evening. Excellent service, quality food, no complaints at all. We recommend the Railwayman's Curry, which simulates the workman's curry when the British were building the railways.Top quality.

Three of visited the newly opened New Delhi last night. The meals were nice, it was a different curry to what I would normally have had. But it was fresh and the service was good.As it was newly opened the draught wasn't on, cards weren't being accepted and they hadn't got the meal I wanted. So if you are too picky perhaps wait until they get settled before visiting. We had a couple of drinks, starters and mains with bread and rice for £20 each.

Ive tried here first time, the veg spring roll for starter was nice until i had the third one in the portion, there was 4 in total. The third and the fourth one tasted horrible. It was like as if they served me old spring rolls. The main dish was lam jalfrezi tasted ok however, it had no spice what so ever and also the lam portion were big chunks it was too big. The atmosphere was nice. The bill was reasonable.

We went to Rangoli on Saturday night (24 October 2015) on a Groupon deal. The restaurant has recently changed its name to New Delhi. The food was absolutely the best I have eaten in an Indian restaurant. The staff were all very helpful, polite and attentive. We asked the waiter to give us some ideas for our 4 starters and he didn't disappoint. He gave us 4 completely different textures, tastes and spices for us to share. Our main meals too were really tasty, spicy but not too spicy. My husband had ordered a vindaloo but the helpful young waiter suggested something similar which his mother in India cooks regularly. My husband said it was the best he had ever tasted. We'll definitely return.

During our stay we almost tried all the Indian restaurants in Swindon. What amazed us is the choice of restaurants we had. Rangoli offers good spread - we tried the poppadams, both the veg and non veg curries are good with naan. The biryani was too spicy could have been better though. Service is good and prompt.

We had 2 beers, poppadoms, starters, 2 curries, rice and 2 naan and it was around 50 quid. Food quality was amazing, portions were bit. Give this a try, we will be back.

Rangoli is a much visited restaurant in Swindon specially by vegetarians. The best thing about this restaurant is it serves Gol Gappe and that too of good taste. If you want to taste Indian snacks like Chole Bhature, Chole Chat, Bhel puri this place is worth to visit. If you live near by Swindon you must visit when you miss Indian taste of food .

There is often debate on reviews for Indian restaurants about what constitutes authentic Indian food. I don't know if this authentic or not, but it is different to the large number of Indian restaurants that I have eaten in before. Different in a good way. We tried Bhel Puri and the Tilapia fritters for starters, both new dishes for us. Both very tasty, particularly the puri. For mains, 3 of us shared a Railway Lamb Curry, Chicken Saagwala, Loki Ke Kofte (Gourd Dumpling), Daal Makhni, Steamed & Jeera Rice and a Paratha. There was more than enough, in fact we brought some home. Everything was cooked to perfection. Really delicious. Rangoli has something to do with colourful folk art, and the interior of the restaurant reflects this. There is interesting coloured lighting everywhere, some changing colour. Some may think it gaudy, but I liked it particularly as it grew darker outside, making it all the more effective. The staff were pleasant, helpful and attentive. I think the prices are very reasonable. We will definitely go again when next in Swindon.

Went midweek with two other couples. Our choices were varied and all tasted different and tasty. Service was fine, although they did get a little stretched when it got busier as the evening wore on. Cobra and Kingfisher on tap, nice. My only gripe - no observation - was that the whole place was lacking in a little atmosphere. But hey, we made our own and the food was great!

My good Indian work colleague recommended very highly for me to visit Rangoli, he described to me that the chefs were very highly trained 5 star chefs who had worked in well established Restaurants in India and London. He is related to one of them. Wow, be prepared to be impressed, never before have i tasted such well presented and tasty looking Indian food before and i have visited the majority in Swindon. None of them come even slightly close to this true authentic gem of an Indian Restaurant. I started with what can only be described as the best tandoori chicken that i have ever tasted before, it was one squared piece, a very generous portion, very tender and juicy and the spices were layered throughout, beautifully presented too. My wife chose Ghobi Pakoda, she was amazed by the light batter and delicate spices throughout. My mains was recommended to me by the very friendly waiter who spoke absolute perfect English and his explanation of various dishes was very much appreciated. I tried what was explained to me as a very authentic South indian dish called Railway Lamb curry, it was very nice and tasty but i have to admit was a tad too hot for my tastebuds, i would say it was slightly above medium heat.My wife chose a dish she now cant recall the name of but very much like a Chicken Biryani for which my wife commented again how tasty it was.We both shared a very nice bottle of house red which was only £11.50, very fruity and definitely not harsh at all like some house wines can be. Overall our taste buds were left tantalised and our trip home was non stop talking about how great the food left us. We both cannot wait to return to this what can only be described as Swindons finest Indian Restaurant.

I've been here twice with friends and once with just my wife. Really enjoyed it. I would recommend the Railway Mutton Curry, a specialist favourite of Rangoli's. I like this restaurant because it is authentic indian food and not the average Bangladeshi-run restaurants, which are good, but not authentic indian food.

Once again we returned to Rangoli for an utterly delicious and authentic meal. As regular travellers to Goa we have a particular love for Indian food and despite having eaten at many an Indian restaurant, none meet the level of taste and authenticity of Rangoli. This is not your average Indian restaurant. This is something special. The egg curry comes highly recommended and is certainly as good as those we've enjoyed in Goa.

I decided to have the kebabs as they had the tandoori. I was very disappointed with the quality of the Sikh kebab and the gheema naan was OK.The service was very very slow.I tried some of the other dishes my colleagues ordered and it seemed like that the curry dishes were a bit better, so kebabs might not be their speciality and I might have ordered the wrong food!I am use to having Indian and Pakistani food but the food gave me an unsettled stomach for the next 2-3 days!

We had a groupon voucher for 2 people. On arrival we were treated with a warm welcome and the menu was explained exceptionally well, which was good as the dishes are completely different to the ones you get in curry houses and most dishes are not available in any other restaurant in Swindon. After some great advice and recommendations we ordered....... wow what lovely food. Presentation was beautiful and tasted amazing, not surprising as the chefs are from five star establishments in India. I would recommend you try this place whilst still on groupon. We will certainly be going back just to add it was nice to see other Indian families coming in to eat that says it all really yum yum.

Me and my husband first went to Rangoli as we had a Groupon voucher to use. When we arrived the staff were very welcoming and friendly. The dips for the poppadoms are different but very good. My husband even enquired as to whether he could buy them!We were advised on what starters to choose so as to avoid the norm and we were not disappointed.I am a korma eater usually and I am bored of the standard english-indian Kormas you normally get but I decided I would try a korma somewhere new. It was amazing. It didn't taste like your usual korma, but in a great way. The best korma I've ever had. Throughout our visit our waiter was extremely friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our 1st visit so much that we bought a 2nd Groupon the next day and returned a week later. This time my husband tried a curry recommended by the waiter on our first visit. It was fantastic. It wasnt something we had heard of before but was very tasty and obviously very authentic. I also tried something different which was also very good. Once again we were not disappointed and will definitely be returning again in the very near future. Since eating at Rangolis I've been recommending it to everybody I know, and will continue to do so!
