We have been before and have recommended it to people. we will however not do so again. we were disappointed this time and won’t go again. The food was not worth the price we payed for it.The chicken was undercooked and the pudding did not appear to be homemade.

Sunday lunch, plate was missing 50% of advertised items. No carrots, no stuffing, no onions. Yorkshire puddings were cut in half and we were only served half a Yorkshire pudding 😳 One of our party was missing roast potatoes and we were told there were no more left so we had to share from other plates. Some of meals were served nearly 10 minutes after first meals came out. Waiter and kitchen staff shrugged it off as not interested. This was smoothed over when a lovely waiter apologised and offered free deserts, however another waitress then proceeded to snap at us when we asked for some sugar for coffees 🥺

We are huge fans of Inn on the Lake, but had never sampled the Ramblers before . Today we called in , unwittingly on our part, just before kitchen closed for lunch service . We were asked , most politely if we’d like to order as soon as we could, but done so professionally and I only mention as a salute to their service , and everything with a smile. The food was excellent and the table service brilliant . Lots of happy customers eating great food. The bread on my sandwich was probably the freshest I’ve eaten . Thank you

We were staying in Glenridding for a couple of nights and thought we’d try the Rambler’s Bar @ The Inn on the Lake on our first night as it was close to our accommodation. The main meals we chose were delicious and really good sized portions and the service was excellent. Based on that experience we decided not to look elsewhere for the following night especially as the menu had plenty of other great dishes to try. We looked forward to returning all day and, as expected, were not disappointed.

This was a 5 star experience with excellent food, lovely service and all at great value. We had a Sunday roast, some had pork, others beef. All were served with thick slices of beautifully tender meat laid over a creamy mash, stuffing, and roast potatoes. Then two bowls of fab veg arrived; tender carrots, green beans, silverskin onions with a little bacon - I'm fighting the chef for the carrots recipe. Then a couple of cauliflower cheese pots arrived and we swooned. What else can I say? All the service was really good, but I'll single out Kate who served our table as excellent: friendly, smiling, attentive and whomever mixed the strawberry milkshake, served by the tallest non basketball player I've seen. This was hands down the best Sunday lunch I've had in memory. I'll go further - if you're coming past Penrith at lunchtime, this is worth the 25 minute journey from the M6 motorway.

We called in for an evening meal. We ordered our meal at 7.45pm At 8.20 we queried why such a long wait. At 8.30pm we were told they had no fish pie left and our slip had been lost. If we hadn’t queried it we would not have received our meal which was paid for in advance. We had to re order our meal which then arrived at 8.45pm. This was not very good and Gemma the waitress was very apologetic. When our meal arrived it was good but unfortunately we were past it by this time. Also my husband ordered a cider but it was beer.

We rang up before hand to make sure they were showing live sports, and they confirmed. however once we arrived and paid for our pints we were told that they didn’t have it which left us feeling heavily dissapointed. To add insult to injury they are also advertising that they are showing TNT sports, however they do not have the subscription. Thick cut chips were good, but the french fries were greasy and plain. Overall dissapointing

Awful. I’ve been walking in the lakes for over 40 years and this bar is one of the most dreadful places I’ve visited. Overpriced, awful beer and geared towards the tourist not the walker. £5.60 for a Guinness, they are laughing all the way to the bank. Looked at the menu - £21.25 for a bigger, really? You are taking the Micky. Won’t be back to your awful environment

Pretty average and pricing is a bit high but it has a captive market. It's also clearly a hotel bar and not a pub. So, a bit soulless. We had the chicken which was ok, but a bit bland. The beer is good, so it's worth popping in for a pint at least. Although there are other options nearby.

We enjoyed our meals in the Candleroom, 2 shepherd's pie and 1 steak pie. The service was very good, the waiter cheerful and welcoming. I can, however, understand the reviewer who noted that the portions were small for the price. My husband said the same but for my adult daughter and I, the amount, as well as the taste, were spot on.

We got off the steamer at Glennridding and with a couple of hours before the return boat, decided to try our luck around 1.30 at getting a table at Ramblers for Sunday Lunch. We thought it would be really busy but we were the only ones in the Candleroom at first so managed to bag a lovely corner table in the sunshine. Whilst we initially fancied a Sunday roast, there was only one choice of beef and other menu items looked more tempting. We ordered a steak and ale pie and a shepherd's pie (£17 each). Both were really tasty, and the red wine gravy was delicious however the portions were very small for the price, with barely a spoon of veggies each, and the tenderstem and almond side missing from mine. I think the very few customers contributed to a lack of atmosphere when we expected it to be much more lively on a Sunday likes the other pubs around the lakes, although the barman and waiter were very friendly. I would definitely call back in for a drink but perhaps not food at that portion size and price point.

Visited for a family meal with 8 of using the evening of 25th February. Told we can’t move two tables next to each other as the floor was new (must have thought we’d have dragged them, rather than carried them) the waitress was exceptionally abrupt and clearly didn’t want to help us. We managed to find a table that would accommodate us all, albeit a squash, yet we weren’t given any guidance as to ordering procedures, or just general help or hospitality. The food was good, although not cheap, although the portions were a good size and wait times reasonable. My overriding feeling is that certain staff just refused to be anything near helpful and that our visit was classed as an inconvenience. A real shame, particularly as there were some staff who were nice.

I used to really like it here, but the experience this evening was shocking. Really unfriendly staff, waited 45 minutes in between starter and main course. Salsa was missing on a starter and two mains, so those were just dry over cooked chicken schnitzels with a few flakes of Parmesan and some potatoes. Prices of drinks not advertised and hideously expensive! Will not be coming back (after over 10 years). Just sad 😢

Came here for dinner one evening whilst staying in Glenridding on holiday. Ordered the stale and ale pie with mash and seasonal vegetables. I received not a pie, but a quarter slice of pie, two ice cream scoops size of mash, and a few sprigs of brocolli. I thought a separate bowl of veg was being brought out so waited for a few mins before realising this was is. Not worth £16.

We ate in the Candle Bar for Sunday lunch. We both ordered the Jennings Ale steak pie. When both turned up, the pie, mash and veg were just tepid, so sent back to the kitchen. After a wait (which was fine) replacement meals arrived. The pie was hot, the veg okay but the creamed mash, in a hot iron pot, was again cold. The meals were not returned again as I did not want to stress any further the young waiter, who initially took the kitchen’s failure very personally. I spoke to the manager however, who said that he did not know what was going on in the kitchen today. Surely it’s his job to know? He made an adjustment on our bill, removing our drinks. This was an appreciated gesture, our bill now reduced to the two pies, £32.00. Still not exactly value for money but hey Ho. I left a monetary tip for the staff and advice to the manager that the kitchen needs to pick up their game. We will not be going back.

Tried going for a pint and a meal, a few weeks back, to find it was closed for a function. Oh well! Called back the next day for some food and drink (after a full day out on the fells) to find out it had just closed (4:30 pm) for another function. Didn’t bother the third day as (you’ve guessed it)…..maybe it should change its name to Wedding, Christening, bar mitzvah (insert any other kind of Party) bar as that would be more fitting. Not been for a good few years but was always a great “Ramblers bar” with a good atmosphere, food, drink and ramblers.

We decided to lunch in the Ramblers Bar which is attached to the hotel as we had eaten there before and enjoyed our meal. Unfortunately this time the food was very underwhelming . We both ordered a crispy beef flatbread with a side of chunky chips. The flatbread was lovely but the crispy beef was very overdone and obviously precooked and reheated. The chips were okay but not very warm. I don’t think we will be back, what a shame as the setting is beautiful.

Staff were friendly but not very attentive, check back wasn’t done for either our starters or mains. The starters were fine £9 each for squid and pork skewers which tasted nice but probably not worth the price. For mains we had a burger and steak and ale pie. We sent the burger back as the burger was dry and cold the bun wasn’t toasted either just dry bread, fries were barely warm and not salted, the pie tasted good but pastry was undercooked. We had the burger off the bill as we only took a couple bites out of it which was good and the manager helped with this. When it came to the bill we found that the gin I had ordered was £4.60 per shot and the double gin came to £10.60 which seemed expensive seeing as it had no ice, garnish etc. Just seemed there was no atmosphere the staff didn’t chat or seem to care we were there seeing as we had to ask to order and were never asked if the food was good etc. for a restaurant so expensive we expected that we would have at least the service even if the food wasn’t great as the restaurant didn’t seem busy. Our bill came to £58 for two starters, one main and 4 drinks, would not recommend

We called ahead originally wanting to book a table in the Orangery for dinner for 2. We were told that no bookings were being taken right now and it was walk-ins only. When we arrived we were told by reception that the Orangery was fully booked - pretty much a wasted trip. We were then advised we could try the Ramblers bar which serves the same food and decided to do so.Firstly, despite being listed on the Governments website, the menu we were given was not on the Eat Out to Help Out scheme. It’s a bit late to be told that once you’re seated and very hungry so we ordered anyway. This must be the ONLY place in the Lake District not partaking in the scheme surely? We ordered 2 x Haddock and chips. The portion that my girlfriend received can only be likened to a child’s portion. I complained about this politely, only to be told that all of their fish portions are 8-10oz (not sure how that helps). I’ve attached a picture of this tiny fish portion, which was £14.95, and not a single bite was taken at this point.I am happy to award 1/5 as the food we did eat was fairly tasty and the service was acceptable. Despite visiting the Inn on the Lake countless times over the years, I won’t be returning.

Mi compañero y yo reservamos una mesa en The Ramblers / The Candleroom.

We were a party of 10, enjoying a late birthday for a family member. Our tea was delightful, with so much food. We are never disappointed when we visit here. Staff are always very accommodating and polite, making a fuss over the children. The hotel is beautiful and ideally situated for a nice stroll after our tea.

4 p. M. (Cierre a las 5 p. M.) Personal rápido, eficiente y amable, encantadora chimenea. .

Popped in after walking Aira Force with the dog. I didn't have a reservation but it was pretty quiet and we were welcomed in. The interior was spotless so I was a bit worried if there was going to be an issue with bringing the dog in (the sign outside did say dogs were welcome). Not a problem. The staff even pointed out a couple of areas that would be quieter as he is nervous around strangers. Was a tough decision what to order as the menu all sounds yummy. Opted for the afternoon tea in the end and was not disappointed. £21.95 which is pretty standard for afternoon tea these days. You get a choice of tea or coffee. Food-wise, we were served three mini sandwiches, a mini open sandwich and a slice of sausage roll as well as numerous mini cakes and delicacies such as red velvet cake, trifle, cheesecake, macaron etc. You also receive two full size scones - plain and fruit. They were warm and came with a pot of cream. Only thing missing was jam but it didn't matter - the cream softened on the warm scone like butter. There was too much to eat so they brought us a box to the table so we could take the leftovers home. Service was provided with a smile and neither too rushed nor too slow. There's plenty of car parking - the car park is clearly well-maintained too.Would return here again. Will maybe try the fish and chips or beef stew next time. Or perhaps the steak or a burger. Decisions, decisions.

Nice dining/bar area. Bookings not taken which wasn't a problem as we were able to turn up and easily get a table. Waiting staff efficient although a little brusque. Plates delivered and waiter immediately left without enquiring if anything else was needed. Food was a bit disappointing, we had the Lamb stew which sounded promising but was lacking in lamb and flavour.

I come to Matterdale End home/dog sitting about 4 times a year and I always come to the Inn on the Lake for Sunday lunch. I am usually a solo diner and i am always welcomed. The staff usually recognise me and are attentive. Sunday lunch is always of the highest quality. The beef is always pink which is just how i like it. HOWEVER, this time was not up to par. A friend was visiting for the weekend and i told her how fabulous this place is. We turned up having failed to make a reservation and were unable to get in the Orangery. The Orangery has amazing views and i always dine in there. On this occasion we were in the Candleroom which overlooks the car park. Fabulous greeting from Louisa who is always lovely. She is a fabulous waitress who always has a smile.

We arrived at the Inn on the Lake having walked from Aira Force and thought that it looked a bit snooty from the outside. However, the staff at the Ramblers Bar and Candleroom were very friendly and welcoming, to muddy boots and muddy dog alike.

Great escape from wet weather. Polite and friendly staff. Tasty fresh meal delivered efficiently. Only downside was the number of dogs. Two owners chose to sit right next to us out of all the other tables which were free. The wet dog smell was quite off putting as we tucked into our food! Perhaps they could have a dog free zone?

We ate in the ramblers bar which was spacious not like some places which try to cram in as many tables as possible and had a nice atmosphere. We had the chicken curry £14.25 and lamb shank £14.65 which was good value and worth the 30 min wait for homemade food. Wine expensive.

We went here for food during our stay, it was really busy, but they got us a table. Food was good, hubs had sirloin steak, and I had butter chicken curry, portion sizes were really good, though a little big, we didn't have room for pud! Staff were attentive without being over the top, and service was prompt.

The service here is lacking to say the least. Upon our arrival we were coldly greeted by two members of staff having a conversation between themselves. We made our way over to a table in the corner which had not been cleared. We waited for someone to come and clear or provide us a menu for approximately 10 minutes before I lost patience and made my way over to the bar again to interrupt the conversation amongst the staff members. Not a great first impression from somewhere that looks so impressive from the outside and with a price tag to match.

This sign lured us in, not because our boots were muddy, but we were in walking attire and would otherwise thought it a bit posh... Great comfy chairs, lovely cool EPA beer, food looked good but we didn't eat in this occasion

Not much to say other than pretty awful food. Ended up spitting more back on the plate than I ate. Some of the worst frozen veg I’ve ever eaten. At the end the of the day, they have you cornered as very few options locally so they don’t need to try.
