Raj Mohal in East Lindsey

My husband and I stayed in Mablethorpe for a week and did the round trip to Louth twice to go to the Raj Mohal. We don't usually visit a restaurant twice in one week but we made an exception because the food was so delicious. The service was prompt and polite without being intrusive and the staff are clearly taking social distancing and Covid regulations seriously. We had a variety of dishes, all of which were very tasty, served piping hot and well spiced. I particularly liked the mulligatawny soup and my husband's chicken vindaloo! Their chapatis were also very nice, not soggy or overcooked. The prices are very reasonable, given the generous portion sizes. I highly recommend a visit.

Love this place. The service here is second to none. Some of the best service I’ve experienced. Fantastic service and the food is brilliant.

Our first night in town we picked up a Chinese takeaway next door to Raj Mohal. Man did it smell great. I think it was inevitable that we would eat there during our stay. As nice as the staff was, I am sorry to say that I was unimpressed with the food. Nothing really special to be honest. One person in our party ordered butter chicken and absolutely loved it. Another two of us ordered the chicken Korma. eh. My wife didn't like it because the sauce was too think. She also didn't care for carrot in the pillau rice. My dish was fine. Lamb and chicken something. It was okay, but not WOW. Too be fair, I think I am going off Indian food. No matter which dish I order I get indigestion. I thought I'd try sometning else, but mine and the leftover korma left me sleepless.

This is highly recommended by me and my friends we ordered food and came and got it within half and hour and was incredibly impressed that it was still hot when we got home and the presentation was still exceptional after a 20 min car drive.. I will be returning again.

Top marks all around for my experience at Raj. Went with a friend and had a beautiful lamb jalfrezi, mushroom rice and a couple of beers. All was of an excellent standard. The portion size was generous and the curry was very flavoursome with perfectly blended spice. Staff were all friendly and efficient and the place felt cosy. It was very busy (always a good sign) so glad we had a table booked. Would use again without any doubt!

Every time I visit Raj Mohal, the food is always good, fresh & consistent. I have never had a bad meal here. I've nearly gone through the menu and never disappointed. The wine is always good and not overpriced. I cannot fault this restaurant. The service is at top level. This is the best Indian restaurant for sure, absolutely amazing !

Been here a few times, most recently in August '19 for a family meal. It had been a couple of years since our last visit, yet the owner and staff recognised us and gave their customary 5 star warm welcome and service. The food, as always, leaves me at a loss for an adequate superlative. Easily the best I've ever had.Out of curiosity, because I find it hard to believe anyone could fail to enjoy a meal here, I took a few moments to read the bad reviews. There's a pattern: the authors share a grasp of spelling, grammar and punctuation that would embarrass a ten-year-old and complain about the blandness of the dishes. My guess would be they've destroyed their palettes with decades of smoking and heavy drinking and are the kind of people who always ask for "the hottest thing on the menu."Take no heed. This place is Michelin star material.

Pleasant and relaxing restaurant. Excellent service! Food is great and wait is not long. Reasonable prices.

I reviewed this restaurant around a year ago. It is consistent and didn't disappoint. It was fairly busy for mid-week. The service and food is still excellent!

My family and friends have been regulars at 'The Raj' for nearly 20 years and it's about time we thanked Rupon and Rajat for the hundreds of meals we've had from them.The menu is extensive and includes all the standard meals that you'd expect - and more. The food is consistently excellent and the 'strength' of the spicey meals such as curries is very consistent so you know you'll get the 'hotness' that you prefer.Their take-aways are exactly the same as the eat-in meals and are an option we often use when we don't have the time to have an evening out.For both visitors to the town, such as those visiting Cadwell Park, and local people who drive there, parking outside or in the nearby car-park (50yds away around the corner) this is a restaurant we can recommend without hesitation.

Food was delicious and good for value! Had the tandoori mix grill and everything was cooked perfectly. Friend had chicken tikka masala and said that wasn’t too spicy, just the perfect level. Her 3 year old loved it too! We will defiantly go back!

This is my favourite Indian restaurant. Love the food and the choice. Really good vegetarian choices.

Definitely had better. Brought three meals and can't really complain about the price, but it's nothing to shout about. Curry was rather bland in flavour. Partner said the meat was nice and that was about it. Probably wouldn't end up returning.

So that we could relax after carols at St James Church we went back once again to the Raj Mohal . This time we had a takeaway instead of enjoying the atmosphere of the restaurant .

We were gutted when our favourite takeaway/ Indian closed in Louth, but we ventured here to satisfy our hunger a time or two.

In a rush on Friday, place was empty at 9pm?? looked like they were closing up. Had chicken jalfrezi, meet was ok and well marinated to be honest,service good but the actual chicken jalfrezi as a meal was not prepared as they do in Indian restaurants traditionally and I’ve eaten all over the world.

This was a solo visit on business in the area when a hotel meal didn’t appeal. I had popadoms and chutneys (interesting coconut chutney) followed by a tandoori mixed grill served with a plain naan and a medium veg curry. I had ordered a side of saag paneer, but this was overkill as the mixed grill was very generous. The food was fresh and well prepared but I found it all a little under spiced and insufficiently seasoned - clearly caters for the local market well but I’m used to a bit more chilli in my seek kebab. Service was efficient and friendly and if I’m in Louth again I wouldn’t hesitate in popping in.

We were at an event in Mablethorpe and googled Indian restaurants in a 10 mile radius.

Been here twice since we moved to Lincolnshire. Best poppadoms,nans are sublime and curry to die for. Staff very attentive and nothing too much trouble. Would not eat a curry anywhere else now.

I have visited here a few times now. Sometimes with friends, other times just my partner and I. There has never been an occasion that we have had a bad experience and tonight was no exception. The food and service were top notch. Absolutely no complaints whatsoever. All in all a perfect meal. Will definitely be back.

I have been eating here for the past 14years with my work colleagues. We attended on Saturday 8/9/18 for a colleagues leaving meal, a party of eleven. We had just finished our main course and they asked us if we would leave as they had a FAMOUS BAND waiting for a table , at first we thought it was a joke until we were asked to leave our table a further 4 times, we hadn't even decided whether we wanted dessert or coffee and it was clear we were not getting the option to choose. Whilst the food was as usual very good the service this visit was appalling.

Went to raj mahol for a change and it was by far the best Indian I have ever had. Really good price too. I would recommend this Indian to everyone

Been to this place a few times. Don't look at the outside - just go through the door.. You will get a warm greeting from the staff! The seating is comfortable and surroundings very nice. Being from West Yorkshire we are used to a 'good' curry - not the usual coconut and cream infused rubbish that you get down in Lincolnshire. The Raj does not disappoint at all. If you would like something to your individual taste then just ask. My husband's chicken Vindaloo was fabulous. Due to being let down by our taxi we were stuck in the restaurant for over an hour and were well looked after. Nothing is too much trouble for these guys - highly recommended.

Had some people over to our rented holiday cottage, about twelve of us as I recall. We were a varied gang and intent on 'having a few' so went down to collect a meal. Two of the raiding party were already quite refreshed so obviously we massively over ordered. The Raj was quite busy so we just had a couple of the excellent Kingfisher beers and waited.

So. We came to Louth to go to the ranch. Who couldn't seat us till 9. Honestly. I was disappointed. However on our way down to the ranch wed walked past this glorious smell of Indian food and joked about how we could always go there if we couldnt get a table.

Celebrated my 62nd birthday at the Raj Mohal on Satuday May 26th, and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I am glad to have found a restaurant unafraid to remain just a little bit old fashioned in some ways (the ways that matter) in the menu and in offering great service. The Mulligatawny soup (a favourite of mine but a dish hard to find in London nowadays because too many restaurants try too hard to be trendy) was one of the best I've tasted, and the main courses were well presented, properly cooked and freshly prepared. And thank you for a Vindaloo challenging enough for an old campaigner like me. I am looking forward to the next one.

After finding this restaurant on Google, we called in twice in a week while on holiday . Greeted by friendly staff in comfortable surroundings. Great variety on the menu.

I cannot understand why other reviewers rated the food so highly here. The highlight was the pickles that came with the poppadums. Two out of our three main courses were bland with tough overcooked meat, although the CTM was enjoyable as was the nan. The paratha, on the other hand was verging on leathery, not the flakey delight we have had in other restaurants. Service was friendly and efficient but overall the food was disappointing.

Tried this Indian restaurant for the first time and were not disappointed. The staff were very friendly and attentive, The prices were very reasonable and the quality of food was good.

Chicken Surma is the best on the menu here.Nan breads can be a bit hit and miss.Parking can be difficult when the "roads" busy. Friendly and always on time when ordered.

I've been going here for 20 years. I've eaten curry all over the world including many cities in India. I use this restaurant as my yard stick, and honestly I have been hard pushed to find better. Consistently good food, great service and great price. Very friendly staff who will go out of their way to ensure you have a great meal.

We visited this restaurant at random late on a Saturday night after a show.

Really impressed at the food here. The dhansak is especially good - with a rich flavour and a lovely texture to the sauce. Also it was cheaper than most. We would definitely go back whenever we're in Louth.

We had a lovely meal, plenty to choose from. At a reasonable price. Staff friendly. The restaurant is not far from where we live. Friends go there alot.

Popped in to Raj Mohal whilst on holiday in Lincolnshire. We only needed a take away as my wife and I only wanted to share a main so we didn't need to sit down. We were received warmly, like old friends and even though we only wanted a take away, we were still made to feel welcome. For the meal itself, the popadoms were average and I thought it could do with a change of oil. For starters, we had onion bhaji which was good and a chicken chat that was excellent. We shared a meat biryani that was okay but nothing to write home about. We would go again if we lived in this area.

Everything from the staff to the food is excellent. By far the better Indian restaurant in Louth. I would reccommend a visit

Great Staff. Good food. I asked for an onion naan and the waiter looked at me "gone out". He said he would ask the chef and hey presto we got a plain naan and an onion naan! Good effort for a first try. Really enjoyed our meal. I would go there again and againCheers Lads!

I have been using this restaurant for 30 odd years and in that time they have always been consistently good,the food is always fresh and good quality, a warm welcome always awaits and the atmosphere is relaxed and the staff are superb. Highly recommended and a treat for your taste buds awaits

My family and I visited the Raj on Saturday evening, after booking a table of five at 6:30, to eat for 7:30. When we arrived, the place was packed with people waiting in the bar area. We waited until around 7:45 to be seated and served a drink, but in all honesty, we were grateful for a table given the last minute booking!I am usually fair pessimistic when it comes to Indian food and don't normally enjoy it as much as other types of food. I think my meal on Saturday night has changed my opinion... we ordered five different curries, a range of starters to arrive with the mains and the usual naam breads and rice. They arrived swiftly and all tasted absolutely delightful. Every dish was spot on and tasted gorgeous. All of which was washed down with a couple of beers and a few glasses of wine. Overall, the bill came to £94 which is very reasonable given the level of quality! Finally, it's pleasant to see the same staff there from years ago, still smiling and providing a good service.Keep it up. We will be back!

This Indian is a friendly yet professional, clean, family run restaurant serving traditional English curries such as Balti and jalfrezi. Chicken Dhansak is my favourite - hot, spicy and full of lentils. Louth has a few curry houses, one other traditional style, two modern and a takeaway however this one is my go to place for a curry.

Great Indian , really good food and very very good staff that are extremely friendly. This is also a very child friendly restaurant. The menu is very easy to understand and also gives a good variety of dishes. The Kingfisher is also on tap!A must go when in Louth

Traditional non pretentious and good value Indian restaurant. Dishes enjoyable. No nan bread available for our visit but chapati offered as alternative very good. Decor and lighting a little tired. We enjoyed an early evening curry.

Over the years I visited this curry house on many occasions, usually with friends. People in Louth seem to love the place but I can't help thinking that it's because there is a lack of better alternatives. Don't get me wrong, there is a nice ambience to the place, the staff are very friendly and efficient and the prices are reasonable, hence the 3 stars. In my opinion though, I find the food bland, the strength of the curries are sadly compared to many Indian restaurants I've been to. I tend not to go for hot curries because I love the flavours in Indian cuisine but I can eat a vindaloo strength curry at the Raj without any problem because they lack strength and flavour, which I think is a shame.I'd like to hope it will have changed when I inevitably eat there again but I doubt it seeing it's been this way for years.

Very many years since I have eaten here. The interior has had a makeover and is quite pleasant. The menu though doesn't seem to have progressed, so expect the traditional fare - match the sauce with the meat/veg served in little dishes on 1970s food warmers. So, not very inspiring, but ok. My veg madras was lacking in spice and the lingering taste was of pepper in the back of the throat, rather like a cheap Chinese Curry. Friends lamb madras was 'just OK'. Of the four eat-in Indian restaurants in Louth, I'd rate this 3rd.

The raj is simply one of the best Indian restaurants I have been to the service is exemplary and the price reasonable

Thanks to other TA reviewers we decided to try this one out and without doubt will highly recommend it. This is a small cosy restaurant and a perfect place to have a meal whilst catching up with friends or even dining as a couple or by yourself. After reading some of the reviews about poor service I was apprehensive to dine here however our experience could't have been more different. We found the staff to be very attentive and the waiter who took our order was very polite. We had a Vegetable biriyani, Tarka dal, Bhindi bhaji and a Peshwari nan. All meals were full of flavour and very good value for money.

this is one of the better Indians in Louth, we've been many times, like it here. especially the lamb vindaloo, my favourite there.

Always good food and good service A good selection, staff always welcoming nothing is ever a problem, parking can be a problem, but a car park is just around the corner.

Amazing restaurant. I reviewed it on my 1235th time going (that's not actually a lie I've gone all my life). It's the best restaurant I've ever been to and I've never been let down. Food is amazing. Staff is polite and a lovely atomsphere.

We've never had a bad meal here. The vast menu is very reasonably priced, the staff very friendly and efficient and the atmosphere buzzing. Well worth a visit if you're in the area.

In my opinion its the best in town, however I find it so expensive to dine in the resturant (I know its more etc with tax or whatever) but it seems like so so much more. I have has several takeaways from the raj and never had a bad experiance they're brilliant.

The best Indian in Louth and I've used them all,the food is very tasty and they will spice it up all you like.Clean and spacious and for a good price.

Went for sit in service. Food is good. Service is slow albeit friendly enough. The worst part is the fact that you are sitting at the same table as ur neighbor. Makes for a very warm and uncomfortable experience. You add to that you're sitting around waiting for servers to remember that you're there and it can not be recommended for an intimate dinner for 2--but rather an intimate dinner of whatever the amount of people sitting at your table at that moment.

It is very good for your typical Indian food, and is generally good with serving has lots of different options and a hot level chart to tell you if it will be too hot for you.Really nice people who serve and good food

When me and my partner came here we ordered 2 curries, at the time they did taste nice but ended up with food poisoning, for a whole week we both was very unwell, reported to the council and authority

We haven't been for a while but its still brilliant. Can't fault the food or service. We often eat out & this is still the best place to dine out. We went on a wednesday evening & were surprised at how busy it was, so we're not the only people who really rate this place. I would recommend the onion bargee - the best u will ever taste!!! We shall be returning sooner rather than later

myself and two friends recently ate at the Raj and the food was amazing as always. the Raj is the only Indian that we will eat from even if having a takeaway. the service is always really good. if you want good service and amazing food then chose the Raj for your Indian.

We have been eating here for over 10 years and have not had anything but excellent service and food. The onion bhagi's are the best I have had anywhere in the world. We love it!

We have eaten here more times than I can count and have never had a bad meal. I love their chicken korma. The staff are lovely and the service is excellent. Meals are reasonably priced. The takeaway service is also very good.

I get takeaway from here a couple of times a month And it's always consistent. Ordering is quick & easy and I've never had to wait long.

The staff were kind and were very helpful. The prices were very reasonable and the service was very good over all I give this restaurant 10 out of 10.

We eat here every few months and have done for several years. Standards have been consistently high through out. My advice for any potential customers is just ask. The staff are friendly and approachable and if you like hotter or spicier dishes than the norm let them know.I like the traditional 'curry house' dishes (Tikka Masala etc ) but will ask for them with a bit of extra heat (up to a Dhansak or Madras heat) to satisfy the curry cravings. It really works. The Kingfisher on Draft is also a must.They do get busy at Peak times though so would always recommend booking first.

This delightful Idian is sometimes a victim of its own success twice now having booked a table I have had to wait. In this case it was due to party of very loud young ladies "enjoying" themselves regardless of any one else. They hogged the table long after they had eaten on their mobiles and endless fag breaks. The staff carried on and eventually the rowdy care left and a calm descended on the room. Normal level of conversation returned punctuated with laughter that was neither to loud or forced. As always the waiters, food and ambiance was excellent. Another great night at the Aj

This was one of the best Indian meals that i have had. The thing that struck us about the meal was that it was not greasy as you find in some Indian restuarants. The staff were very good and the price was acceptable.

I'd never had an Indian meal that I would describe as bland until I came here. The starters were good but the mains were very, very poor. I won't be back...

This is our favourite curry house and we always enjoy the food. The Baltimore special on a Monday night can be highly recommended. Lovely staff.

We’d previously had a takeway from the Raj a couple of years ago and weren’t impressed as all the dishes seemed to have the same sauce and tasted similar. However after reading the recent reviews we thought we’d give them another go, this time in the restaurant – we wish we hadn’t.All the dishes we had were fairly tasteless – we couldn’t find any trace of tomato in the Jalfrezi, the sauce was very runny and the chicken was tough. The best bit of the meal was the Nann bread which was well cooked and tasty.We expected a better, tastier meal and were left disappointed. Theres better Indian restaurants in the area and we will not be returning to, or recommending the Raj.

I often go here when every my friends and I fancy a curry and it's always been top notch no matter what time of day we have gone, the staff have always been very friendly and helpful. It's the best little curry house in town.

We live only a short stroll away and visit the restaurant frequently. The menu is varied and the food is always well cooked and tasty. I can honestly say that we have never had a bad meal. We had friends down from Hull and they said it was the best Indian meal they have ever had !The staff are are very helpful and friendly and combined with the food we always have a very enjoyable evening and we would recommend it to anyone.

Genuinely love this place. Lovely staff, speedy service, excellent pricing and delicious food. Its always buzzy (testament to its popularity) and filled with happy customers. A little piece of Lincoln in rural Lincolnshire. I hope it stays in Louth for the foreseeable future, it really makes the Louth food scene a better place.

A small but popular place with all you would expect from a good Indian restaurant. The food was delicious and the cost was small. We enjoyed a great dinner and attentive service. Top class in the small market town of Louth.

Unfortunately, my last 2 or 3 visits here have been disappointing and of the four Indian restaurants in Louth (the others I've visited recently too), this place no longer interests me and it's time for a parting of the ways. Average food, average service...

We visited on a Friday night as a group of four. The restaurant is clean and comfortable. Service is efficient and unobtrusive, it's well organised so that you are not repeatedly asked the same question by different staff, as happened elsewhere recently. Food was served in a timely manner and was good. The portion sizes were more than adequate.One of our friends ate there recently and advised us to request that the dansak was not too hot, as the chef has apparently changed, and his was very (too) spicy. None of us ordered one but I include this as a tip passed on from a local.We were eating with regulars to the restaurant and were astounded at the half a box of After Eights that appeared after the desserts and coffees, then more with the bill plus some Murray Mints!The bill came to around £66 for four, only 2 ate dessert, while the others had coffee. We drank a few bottles of beer, the rest of the drinks were soft. The bill seemed very good value, compared to my local restaurants in the South East.

What can I say about this brilliant restaurant. It's nothing short of brilliant. Great food great service and friendly staff. Brilliant always!

I cannot say enough nice things about this restaurant.The staff are all very friendly and the atmosphere is just as an indian restaurant should be.The food is authentic indian cuisine and is always top notch. We have had many great family nights out in this beautiful place. It is amazing values for money. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Always great food and plenty of it for the price. Takeaway is great as well as eating in. But dark and dingey inside as with many Indian restaurants..could do with redecorating. Staff always great/helpful and friendly. Food always quick, hot and tasty. Definitely worth a visit

I have been a regular visitor here for the past 10 years. The staff are very polite and kind. Very professional. The food is beautiful hence why I return often. Recently decorated inside which gives a nice atmosphere. Would recommend to all.

Have been using this place for both eating in and takeaways for the last 6 months or so. Never disappoints. Good food and friendly service. Better than the other Indians in Louth IMHO.

This is great value for money. Between a group of 5, the bill came to just under £50 with starters and mains. The price means you're able to try something new as you have not wasted too much money if you don't like it. Large portions, delicious meat and sauces. Happy to help with excellent waiting service.

We have been visiting the Raj Mohal for many years and it is always consistent. The dishes are always of excellent quality and the portions are very generous. Dishes are served on heated trays on the table which keeps the food hot. There is an extensive menu. My husband always enjoys the lager here too. The staff are very friendly pay attention to detail and are always eager to please. The restaurant has a lovely feel to it, is very clean and was recently refurbished to a very good standard. We have visited many Indian restaurants but the Raj Mohal always stands out from the others. It is to be highly recommended.

Visited here last night as part of a 14 strong hen party. Although there was a little mix up in regards to reservation time, they organised a table within minutes (although very busy) and had us seated ready to order. The waiters are extremely polite and we received a fantastic service. Everyone enjoyed their meals, not one complaint. Would definately recommend to everyone x

The aroma from Raj Mohal wafts along Aswell Street enticing you in. The staff are always very welcoming & sincere & happy to accommodate. The cosy, comfy seating area is very ambiently lit & the food is always really good.
