Raj Indian Cuisine & Lounge in Blackburn with Darwen

We haven’t been to Raj for a while but went tonight with our son. Warmly welcomed by Ali and his team and shown to a table straight away. Food came quickly, a couple of starters followed by chicken tikka dansak, murgham masalam and chicken tikka rogan josh. The service was very good especially considering they were also hosting a wedding party. Won’t leave it as long before I go back again.

Came to visit iur son. Excellent food, good service. My husband said it beats a Bradford curry!!! Nice music to get with the mood.

Monday evening, just fancied a curry, never been to Raj before, thought I'd give a try. Decor and fittings where very nice .Quite quiet as it was early evening, greeted at the door, shown to table, staff where attentive without being pushy, just about right. Food came quite quickly and was very nice, service may not be as quick when the place is full, but that's to be expected. All in all, a very nice meal and pleasant evening. Will definitely visit again.

Came here for Valentines- they had a fantastic special on for valentines so we got that! Staff were so lovely and professional, and I could not fault the food! Highly recommend!

Fourteen of us just been to the Raj Indian for our Xmas get together but there are some issues that need sorting out, the service is extremely poor from ordering to actually getting any food was approximately an hour, not everyone had a starter so don't know what took so long to get poppadoms etc to the table, I asked if my husband could have his main meal at the same time as my starter, well that never happened, he waited another half hour and others in our party waited two hours for just one course as that was all they were having, not great when you are very hungry, much of the food was barely warm by the time they got it as there was only one waiter bringing the food on a trolley and serving it, other customers were served and long gone and they came in after us, I will not be backnor will I recommend anyone to come here, to be fair food was good but not worth the wait 😠👎

Went to Raj on Thursday evening what great food, being an Indian food addict since the 70’s this is the best around never had garlic rice that tasty and flavoursome , absolute 5 stars I wish it was nearer to my home

Excellent food and service. Loved the chilli chicken and they do the best biryani and masala chips. Enjoyed the mocktails and desserts were lovely too. Very nicely done up and the canal view is amazing 😊

Easy to park. Beautiful food, very good value and friendly staff. Lovely views of the canal. We would definitely recommend a visit.

Went to pick up at time stated waited 30 mins after I arrived. Chicken tikka masala was absolutely awful, no taste very salty. Paid for items but never received. First time and last time I will order from them. I will never use the restaurant if this is the service and food that they serve.

Visited on a Monday evening and was around half full not to bad for a Monday. The staff here are so friendly and the food is consistently outstanding it has to be the number one Indian in this area. For a change had the chicken Nepali and it was really tasty and thegarlic&chilli naan bread brilliant.

Can't fault this Indian. Everything cooked well ,great favour in the food. Pretty authentic. The special rice was unbelievable. Definitely worth a visit. Looking at the restaurants in the area there isn't a great deal here worth visiting for Indian food. This one however is decent. Mixed grill was lovely.

Have visited twice in recent weeks one on a Saturday night when the service left a lot to be desired as they were really busy and seemingly short staffed. The food though was as usual excellent. Then a couple of weeks later visited on a Sunday evening and the difference was quite remarkable so laid back and everything under control. Have been trying different dishes lately and not my usual vindaloo and all have been really good.

Two years since last New Year’s Eve party at this establishment and it was really magical. The staff so helpful and really busy when the fireworks started to make it enjoyable for everyone. The food as always really great and in stead of Vindaloo I tried Hagi Baji and it was tremendous, my wife had the same but balti style. So a really Fabulous evening at east Lancashire number one Indian restaurant.

Ordered online, impressed with speed of service as meal was ready on arrival. Unfortunately the food itself was a big disappointment. Starters very small for the price and stone cold. I soon realised why the food was ready so quick. It was a case of about 3 chunks of chicken stirred in to a fairly tastless ready made curry sauce probably from a jar ! I could have bought that from Asda 😂 Haven’t been to the Raj for many years and sadly won’t return which is a shame as it is so local.

Restaurant was nice and clean food was mediocre but palatable price was not too bad thought the kids meals were ok, but to my disappointment service was diabolical poppadums arrived once finished we had to ask for the starters which arrived with the kids meals as asked for, then we waited and waited having to ask 4 times for the mains even the dishes from the starters hadn’t by this point been removed, anyway after a long wait mains arrived. When we had finished we sat for a while asked for the bill, then asked again and again we waited probably more than half an hour for the bill by this time the kids were tired and stressed, for a restaurant that size they need more than 3 people serving, also the bar was full to the brim of empties I will not be going back to this place again

Had a table booked for 5pm there were 6 of us. Upon arrival the place was clean with alcohol gel to clean our hands and the staff were wearing masks. We were seated promptly and ordered our drinks and starters, they arrived in good time and we enjoyed them. The mains came and again great timing and enjoyable, we were asked a few times if everything was ok and that was good they clearly look after their guests. Our waiter was spot on and Is a credit to your business. Didn’t catch his name though

Food was lovely. Prawn vindaloo nice and spicy. Nan bread and paratha freshly made. Delivered on time. Would recommend and will order again. Can't wait to visit when open again. Complimentary bottle of beer a nice touch. 😊

What can I say, a simple order no starters, chicken tikka biryani, chicken Bengal with boiled rice and a plain naan. We received a plain chicken biryani, a chicken tikka Bengal and pilau rice, I even said boiled rice twice as it was pointed out that rice or a naan bread was included with the chicken Bengal. As we live at the far side of Darwen it would have taken too long to take it back. Having said that, the food was very tasty, the sauce with the chicken Bengal spicy and rich, well worth going to even if the order is wrong.

Amazing food like always.Friendly and very welcoming staff.Would highly recommend the place,recently been done up with a wonderful view. Decent price and food is made to satisfaction.cant wait to visit again next week 😊

We went on Sunday for a buffet absolutely terminal had to ask for more rice for 3 adult s was served 1 for 3 people and they seemed put out when we asked for more curry s were decent even had to ask for more drinks second time I’ve been and same as first there will be no 3 rd visit akash in darwen miles better and other Indian s are a lot better can’t even tell staff what u think I’d have to be paid to go back

Visited the raj as a last minute tea with the kids on the eat out to help out offer. Service was good, a little slow but they did seem run off their feet and we didn't book so can't complain. They didn't mind that we shared meals which was a good thing as we can't eat full meals each. Food was good and we got to eat out as a family for a total of £20.91

Eaten here for years, but first time I've given a review.Love the restaurant, nice and spacious, the service is brilliant and the staff are always friendly and attentive. Never waiting long for another drink or for food to come.We like the separate seating area where you can have a drink whilst looking at the menu - never feel rushed either.Highly recommend, never had a bad meal whatsoever.

Very slow service, sat at pre dining area for 20 mins, no menu offered.Only got menu when shown to table.Food took at least 30 mins to arrive.Biryani and curry bulked up with peppers and onions, so less meat.Just about enough curry sauce to slightly moisten biryani.Added beers to bill that I had got from bar and paid for.Pretty disinterested staff going about their duties robotically.First and last visit.

We haven’t been for a few weeks but we enjoyed another very good meal at Raj and good service provided by the two Ali’s.

Visited on the Sunday night after lockdown was lifted and the food and service was fantastic. A credit to the staff for a very warm welcome and social distancingwas spot on. The food was the usual brilliant Indian and no one in our party was disappointed, the Raj must be the best Indian establishment in East Lancashire.

Even though it has to be a takeaway at present, the Raj are still the best curries in Blackburn. I am currently working my way through the chef specials and having had 3 now I have to say they have all been equally excellent.

Due to coronavirus lockdown just been for a takeaway, it wasn’t ready when I got there do a short wait which was fine as I knew it hadn’t Ben sat waiting getting cold. I had the special tandoori mix and my wife a chicken tikka dansak, both still hot when we got home to Darwen. Both enjoyed our meals plenty there can’t wait for the restaurant to open again.

Came for a Birthday meal, wasn't the best Indian meal I've had , but it was still good. Ordered Mix Kebab (Starter) the Samosa was bland and for Main, Tikka Masala , fairly small portion and not as tastey as my local. For 2 people came up to £45 for two starters,2mains and 2 drinks. Customer service was good:)

Have visited this restaurant twice recently one with family and the other with large group of friends and on both occasions could not find fault with anything whatsoever. The standard of food is exceptional and the staff very friendly and helpful and the prices are reasonable. I think you would struggle to find a better Indian restaurant in this area.

My wife & I came across the Raj by chance while we were looking for somewhere to eat before going to a show at the Empire Theatre. We were in unfamiliar surroundings, & couldn't have been more pleased. Ideally situated about 15 minutes walk from the theatre, absolutely amazing food, good choice of drinks & friendly service. Would have loved to have been able to make more of what was on offer, & very much looking forward to an opportunity to return.

There were 12 of us for my son's 18th birthday celebration, the service was excellent.... very accommodating, helped to decorate the tables and allowed us to take out own cake. Food and drink was fabulous, really good quality and the waiters are great. Can't wait to return

We love it here and always visit as a family for the Sunday Buffet (set price). Fabulous food, fantastic staff and a great atmosphere. A brilliant way to try new dishes and you can have as much as you can eat. The set-menu is on a 4-week rotation which is also a great idea. We've ordered take-away (local pick up) from the main menu too and enjoy the masala.

Was out with a friend for the day so decided to google Indian restaurants in the area and this place came up and had some good reviews and as it was a Sunday they was doing a Sunday Buffett so decided to give it a try. On entering it seemed to have a few people in so though would be good we was sat at a table by the waiter who came across as abrupt . Waited 15 min before our order for drinks was taken I don’t know why they call it a Buffett as it’s nit you can’t just help yourself it is served to you and is a set menu waited over 35 min for the starters to be served but the waiter was the only person serving he was also the barman and was waiting on two large tables also so sort of understand the guy was rushed of his feet but still 35 min for food was a little long the starter was ok nothing special but eat it then waited a further 15 min before we was asked if we wanted more starters which we declined and said was ready for mains which after about 15-20 min was served abruptly again as the waiter was so rushed of his feet and he was physically sweating profusely it was dripping of him. Had mains and it was week 3 on the buffet menu was ok again nothing special we could not get in any mediocre establishment elsewhere . Finished but decided to leave the table next to ours the language of the group was disgusting never in my life have I ever eaten in a restaurant and heard this kind of language swearing is a understatement very shocked and embarrassed not being from Blackburn I was just shocked . Anyway had enough so just got up and went to pay the same guy served us again and he just said he was rushed of his feet didn’t ask if we enjoyed our meals etc etc didn’t even say thank you. I don’t think I will be eating here again

Excellent service and staff were really friendly. The food was to perfect standard, I would definitely recommend to anyone. It is family friendly.

Not a lover of a curry myself I was wondering what I would choose and enjoy when I was invited to a family meal.

Well where do I start staff are so nice and welcoming felt like home and the drinks are to good to be true felt like I was abroad, door was quality and price just right I would recommend all friends and family to go and try Raj Cuisine, thank you for the service and food and will be back very soon.

Amazing food.we visit Raj nearly every week. Very professional and service was excellent. My fave has to be the biryani's. We all loved Ali, he is very down to earth and we were well looked after by him and all the lovely staff.

Visited last Friday and this restaurant is a little gem that we should not loose.The staff are so friendly and helpful and very nice decor. Whatever you have from the menu will be delightful from Vindaloo to shashlik so pay a visit soon.

I came here after-work with some friends and let me tell you I was not impressed.

Went here for our evening meal with few friends, and what can I say one of this best dish I've tried in a long time the chicken zinga absolutely loved it and my friends loved there food as well, service was brilliant one of the waiter recommended me the dish its slightly hot but with a unique taste to it, I will defo be back thank you Raj restaurant

First time came to this restaurant. The staff were extremely attentive, the presentation of the food was excellent, everything was delicious and the price was reasonable for the quality and amount of food that was served :)

Took my 91yr old dad for xmas day treat but wish we had not

When you review a restaurant, it’s always about the waiting time and the food but people forget it’s the service that makes your day special.

Went there a few months back. Food was disgusting, would not give it to the dog. Black, hard chips, black thick veins in the 'chicken', one curry was practically a tomato curry as it had no meat in it. Complained and nobody knew who the manager was but eventually somebody came over and said they will refund nothing and if we don't pay they will call the police! We paid but never going back. No idea how this place had got a single good review. Try going to Darwen and try a proper place instead. Also we even got over charged and they had to redo the bill 3 TIMES!

Me and my fiancé come here today for a curry and a few drinks lovely friendly welcome we was seated straight away and asked what drink we would like and our drinks came within 5 mins then we was asked about our order for food great food and great service we would recommend this restaurant to anyone and we will be back keep up the good work

We visited the Raj on Sunday 23rd September as a group of 6 with a little one, we pre-booked a table for 3pm. Despite this pre-booking we weren't seated until 3:35pm despite several larges tables being vacant. It was clear that the staff wanted guests to be seated in a particular area.Despite this, food and drink service were fine. Nothing out of the ordinary, but we did have to ask rather than staff coming over to check if we needed more.

I have visited Raj quite a few times since it opened and I have never been disappointed when I go!! It’s lovely and clean and the food is always amazing! The staff are great and once when I picked up a delivery, it wasn’t quite ready, so they gave a complimentary drink whilst I waited.

we went for a family lunch with 2 children and everyone really enjoyed the meal and kids were well looked after great meal

Food seems to taste different every time we visit. Starter was nice but curry was awful. It tasted sweet when it should have been a Madras. Beautiful premises and staff are lovely but unfortunately I will not be returning

Went to this restaurant and was put in a seat near the window. Was shocked to see numerous Rats blatantly running around outside on the wall and along the outside of the restaurant. Despite this the rice was microwaved with large congealed lumps, the Nan was soggy., the meat was over cooked and grislly, my partners food was very salty. The Rola Cola was flat and in a very small glass, £1.50 per glass was extortionate. My Coke was swapped, my partner was not even asked if hers should be swapped too. When told the meat was over salty the waiter said he was sorry and would tell the chef.

Very tasty good food and really friendly service, great place for food just a downfall of the outside, the garden looks abandoned and defiantly needs a tidy up and maybe some seating, great view over the canal from dining area and also rear garden witch is a shame due to the state, also a lot of drug users/alcoholics sit at the sit of the canal right at the side and sometimes go into the restaurants garden leaving old needles and beer bottles

Had a lovely evening here. Staff are so friendly and the food was delicious. A little on the expensive side but worth it. Definitely recommend.

Went for an evening meal with work colleagues.

Arrived around 6.30 pm saturday very quuet few couples dining ordered a few drinks then after 10 minutes or so ordered food etc. Starters came and were average at best... main courses came and presentation was A1 but taste and quality and value were average at the best... slightly punching above its weight more suited to plastic tables and help yourself buffet etc...

Decided to give this place a try again and we won’t bother again. The service was awful really trying to be something it isn’t. It’s over friendly and in your face.

Been here quite a few times now and even get it delivered to my house too now they also do takeaway. The curry is the best I've tasted! it's really nice inside the restaurant and the staff nice and friendly.

Always friendly helpful staff, food is usually good. Weekend's can be very busy and you might have to wait between courses but it's worth the wait. I think the Decor is getting a little tired but you go for the food not the decor. Would recommend

Esto no era muy agradable. La comida es deliciosa, el servicio necesita trabajo

Visitamos el restaurante indio Raj para una celebración de cumpleaños. El restaurante estaba impecable con servilletas. Opción de menú fantástico. Nos preguntaron por un camarero muy atento si queríamos un freno entre campos. La comida era perfecta y muy bien servida. Gracias

Aunque había un montón de camareros en el restaurante parecía haber una falta de coordinación entre ellos, así que, a pesar de no estar completa, servicio tomó mucho tiempo y tuvimos que pedir más bebidas varias veces. Los aperitivos eran aceptables, pero los principales campos de pollo tikka, pollo y ajo pollo chili junto con un plato de cordero no estaban muy sabrosos. Estoy de acuerdo en que el precio no es alto, pero otros restaurantes indios en la zona servir comidas mejor.

Este está a la vuelta de la esquina de la mía así que voy bastante a menudo. El personal es increíblemente amable que recuerda que y te tratan como familia. La comida es la mejor que he probado tan fresco y muy bien hecho.

Absolutamente genial, desde el momento en que entramos al restaurante hasta el momento en que nos fuimos nos trataron fantásticamente. El personal (abby creo que ola es nombre) eran de primera clase, a la tierra amable y profesional. La comida también era de primera clase. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . We booked ere for our afternoon wedding venue for 30 people. We had the whole restaurant to ourselves for 4 hours. Staff were amazing n couldn't do enough for me and my husband, food was out off this world. We will defiantly be going here again and would recommend for any party or just a meal. Thanks raj Ali and all the staff for making our wedding that extra special

Our family and friends went here for grandsons 18th birthday meal we had a 6.30 sitting and was fairly quiet , the ambience in this resturant is wonderful and the decor , which complimented the extremely tasty food and efficient service. We had lots of different dishes off the menu each one a delight my main meal was chicken tikka rogan josh just delicious , we did not have a pudding as there was birthday cake . In our group was our 1 year old grandaughter, and the staff happily warmed up her own food to consume on there premises , the boys had english food off the menu off chicken nuggets and chips , all in all fantastic restaurant to visit will definitely return even though it is 15 mile away from our town .

Had chicken tikka with plain curry sause they brought my chicken out on a hot sizzling platter i thought lovely then i ask a few mins later for my curry sause he said yes two mins ten nearly fifteen mins later my chicken had gone cold he put it down no sorry nothing and harlic nan was so hard couldnt bite into it starter was very nice its there service to slow

Came here after recommended by friends..not disappointed!! Lovely atmosphere,staff,venue and food !! They even made me an adapted veggie dish for me ...would definitely recommend to others...easy to get to and plenty of parking spaces ...

On the look out for a decent place to eat whilst visiting Blackburn we stumbled upon The Raj as a result of asking a lovely local lady standing at a bus top where she would recommend for us to go to eat. We followed her directions (15 min walk from the cathedral) and came upon The Raj. I have eaten at so many south Asian cuisine restaurants across the UK but the food at The Raj was seriously good. The views from the restaurant of the canal are beautiful and the food was fresh and cooked to perfection. I had the king prawn tikka followed by Lamb korahi which is one of THE best I have ever tasted. The staff were polite and ever so helpful. Great customer service. Reasonably priced too.

From the road this doesn't look up to much but once you are in the decor is brilliant. We were seated overlooking the Leeds Liverpool Canal. The staff were really friendly and the food was really good. Some Indian food is quite bland but this was very tasty and the prices were reasonable.

I've visited here a few times and had take away. Each time I cannot fault the food at all. Every dish I've sampled has been tasty and cooked to perfection. My partner and I held our leaving meal here, raj catered for all 40 of us. The food all came at the same time and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

This is a nice restaurant with very helpful and cheerful staff and whilst I did enjoy my visit the food was a little disappointing. I should point out that several members of the group very much enjoyed the food but the curry lovers found the food to be a little bland and the usually hotter dishes lacked heat.

1st time wev'e ordered , the wrong meal was delivered, it was worth twice as much as our's, we was told we could keep that meal, which was good, our correct meal was delivered later, which was also very nice, & was given a full refund for their mistake, so we had £45.00 worth of food, free, happy day's, the starters came in for boxing day buffet, & we still had two curry's for the night after, happy new year ............it was a take a way

Went to the Raj 1st time been, it was for a birthday party. Very disappointed my husband ordered garlic mushroom and got stuffed mushrooms, we ordered chcken tikka sizzling plates they brought them out we started eating them then waiter said we ad wrong dishes and was quite rude about it. Wont go back

Lovely food, good portion sizes and reasonably priced. Good service - a few sides missing however there were a lot of us and they corrected this quickly. I would visit here again.

We visited Raj one Saturday evening. Quite busy . Staff are excellent very attentive and happy which definitely makes a difference. Kebab and prawn purée ordered both quite good but the prawn lacked flavour.Two curries ordered both absolutely brilliant very tasty . We also had a very nice bottle of merlot again very good. We haven't been here for a while but the mains were brilliant better than I remembered. If I had to make one comment the lounge area could do with a spruce up . Will definitely return !

Went with a big party all got served at the same time my grandson got mushrooms on his meat (he dose not like mushrooms) i asked would they scrape the mushrooms off they said no it would already have flavored the meat they insisted on a fresh meal,i could not fault that plus, we all got a free drink after the meal.Thats 5 star service would definitely go again.

The staff here are fantastic, they really look after you and are very attentive. The food is full of flavour and delicious. Been here on a number of occasions and have never been disappointed!

Visited the raj with my partner never been for an Indian before the place was very small but they do say good things come in small packages.The staff was very nice and polite and very helpful the food was very good for the price as was the drinks overall a very good experience and I will definitely be going back

Very popular Sunday all you can eat buffet for less that £10.00 . Good variety and staff very efficient. Best to book.

Booked a table for four ordered the Sunday Buffet at £10 per head plus ordered poppadums' and chutney tray. Was seated quite quickly drinks and starters came quickly and then we seemed to get forgotten, had to try and catch a waiters eye to clear plates then waited for main course to be served. When it arrived it was served in small bowls definitely not enough food to feed 4 people. The service was absolutely shocking as we were sat with some people eating and some not! Not once did we have a waiter come to the table asking us if we were ok? In the end I got up and asked why we had been left with some of the main course but no rice or accompaniments' only to be told it was because they had young staff on! By the time the remaining food came the other food was cold. I gave up in the end whilst the rest of my family ate. I did complain about the service but no one seemed to care. Very disjointed and chaotic! Shame because what little food i did eat was very nice Definitely won't be returning.

Went Raj last night with my wife and brother in law who had recently moved to Lincolnshire from Brighton and there are no Indian restaurants near where he lives. From entering the restaurant to leaving the experience was excellent. The waiters were very good, the food superb, my brother in law couldn't believe how good it was. Whilst the service can be a little slow sometimes, have never had a bad meal here and last night was no exception, a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

Visited for my dad's birthday meal with the family. From walking through the door the man behind the door started pouring the pints. Top start. Are good was so good and the staff was brilliant. Fast and fresh can not complain. My daughter and niece was given complimentary ice cream which with kids is always a lovely touch. They really looked after the kids and made our time enjoyable

Some of the best Indian food I've ever tasted!! All the staff are welcoming, friendly and there's one specific gentleman who's extremely funny and always makes our visits even more rememberable! Really good value for money too, we were surprised on our first visit at how cheap it was but yet so tasty!! I've been a few times with my partner now & plan to take our parents on other visits to show off the place! Luckily for us it's only at the end of our street too so can just nip in when we cannot be bothered to cook! Well worth a visit and has amazing views!!
