Best place in town ingnore the bad reviews we went in as a family we enjoyed our meal we had the raj special and thawa service was very good

Food was great, very cheap too. I’d highly recommend the thawa. Only downside is one of the staff(or owner), when I went there Wednesday 28th there was a short older guy who just seemed to walk around giving orders shouting at the next 2 staff Im about to mention(possibly the owner, very rude to them), a young lad who didn’t seem to speak much English but was making tables and cleaning up polite enough to customers but got a few bits wrong, a young lady who was great with her role asking if we wanted drinks, taking our food order and talking to us, and a middle aged male on the bar who poured a great pint was great with the customers that he had contact with and seemed to do other jobs like answering the phone, doing the bills, chasing stuff up and orchestrating the front well. Would be a 5* review if it wasn’t for the older guy, very unprofessional and it’s not good to see and listen to when you’re trying to enjoy a meal out. Advice to the restaurant, if he’s not the owner get rid he will lose you a lot of customers. If he is the owner, do yourself a favour and hide out the back, you don’t do much anyway other than bark orders telling other staff to do stuff when you could be doing it, try to take orders when the young waitress was doing a perfectly fine job(possibly worried he will miss out on a tip) and help hand out some of the food.

Great food, great service except the little bald guy. Walks around doing nothing then is rude to the young waitress telling her to do everything then complaining we got popadoms before we ordered food like we requested. Who’s paying my bill him or us? Go do some work and keep your nose out of someone else’s work when they are working hard.

Excellent friendly service but most important excellent food. Two vegetarians in our group loved the vegetarian Dhansak I loved the fiery spice of the chicken Phil Phill.

Nice place great food service was a little bit “strange” but food was good when it eventually arrived I would definitely go back

Good food, though standard problem of meat not infused with sauces. Unfortunately delivery terribly slow and without any warning or apology.

The best in Penrith. Come here most weeks despite living in Carlisle. Always good food. Recently sat in with a bigger party, food and service was excellent, each dish unique and delicious

Tried this place whilst staying nearby. We booked our meal for 6.30pm and was attended to immediately for drinks. The food was nice and was hot and the service was good.

Although the restaurant was relatively empty, probably because it was early. Staff were pleasant and polite and bought our drinks whilst we perused the menu. However we found the food quite bland.

We enjoyed the night place is huge bit of a warehouse feel . Food piping hot fresh and tasty . Staff accommodating too , will visit again .

We always have a really lovely time when we eat at Raj. Food is consistently good, very tasty and we are well looked after as regulars. Atmosphere is always nice and staff are friendly and attentive.

the service was superb even when I popped in to book the tanle. During the meal the staff were excellent and we felt really well looked after from start to finish. Food excellent, tasty and filling as always, with great meals as standard.

Not had the pleasure of dining in the restaurant yet but travel out to raj twice a week for takeaway it's a 30 mile round trip need I say more the chicken is very high quality as a chef of nearly 30 years I know prawns are large and succulent the sauces are well made and very balanced you can actually taste the ingredients well done all concerned and see you again very soon

it was the wife's birthday and she fancied a curry . The Raj was recommended by 2 of the girls on the hotel reception where we were staying. We were not disappointed, perhaps the portions were larger than we are used to but never mind we ate all we could.

Visit here regularly and the standard is high although table service gets a bit wobbly at times. Food worth the wait though.
