Food was completely tasteless, I had a lamb balti and it had no spice to it at all my partner had a korma and it was completely flavourless. When I went to collect at 18:30 there was absolutely no one inside dining. A few people I know have said it was tasteless but I thought they were just being fussy! I can assure you I have not enjoyed my Friday take away at all and I will not be going back in a hurry!

booked for 8pm, seated at 8.30, drinks finally served. Waited about 30 minutes for poppadoms to be served. Main meal were served about 9.45. Food was ok. my Philli chicken was bland, no spice or heat. Chicken was dry and boiled. Missing cutlery, serviettes. The serviette I was provided had curry all over it. We did complain but this fell on deaf ears. Won't rush back.

Appalling service, cancelled our takeaway and requested a refund after 1 hour 25 mins wait for our food. The driver finally knocked on the door 1 hour 40 mins after ordering.

Had The Butter Chicken last night. So much better than last time. Glad I tried again!

Terrible place for new years eve curry. Rushed in rushed out. Greasy food, poor surroundings, One waiter doing everything whilst 3 other waiters walked around looking lost. We had starter and main course. Nothing tasted fresh. It was sadly the worst place I've been too.

Its not an authentic indian food, no taste and expensive also.

First visit to the restaurant. Absolutely great experience, the food was superb and the staff were welcoming and friendly. Looking forward to another visit , thankyou

My wife and I made an overnight stop at the nearby hotel in Penrith and decided to try the Raj. It was a completely wonderful experience. The food ranks with the very best curries we have eaten over 40 years! The staff were attentive without being overbearing. The value for money was exceptional. We live in Spain so we cannot become regulars . Alas!! We enthusiastically recommend it to those of you who can.

Absolutely amazing. 6 of us came from Carlisle on the train. Really tasty, great service. The best onion bhaji's and Nann bread I've had . I'd recommend the special thawa for someone who doesn't like a spicey curry. Not a bad thing to say from all 6 of us. Everyone really enjoyed everything. Knocks the shoes off places in Carlisle. Not bad priced too.

Excellent meal with great service

The food was good but the service wasn't great. It took about an hour to get the main course! They served warm bottled coke. The ceiling tiles were a bit mucky and the place could generally do with some attention.

Waited at the restaurant for 2 hours still no food was delivered it was very bland and poor services from the staff never recommend to go there to anyone

Been many times before. Always get lovely service and great food. Strongly recommend. Takeaway always delivered hot and promptly.

Excellent value and quality. We ordered online for pick up , as it was around the corner from our holiday let. Exceptional quality and quantity enough food for dinner the next day. We ordered, Two curries , 1 rice and 1 side dish and x 2 poppadoms with mango chutney . It also came with complimentary salad and riata. Came to £22 with a 10% discount for ordering on line!

Starters were unrecognisable. Aloo chaat looked like aloo curry. Seekh kebab smelled off and tasted bland. Frozen seekh kebabs from the supermarket are probably better. We asked them for their best dish, being the chicken tawa and it was completely bland and more sweet than spicy like a literal dessert. It makes me think that they ran out of salt. Waste of time and money will not be returning.

Most of the food had no taste. I ordered chicken pakora as a starter and as someone who has experience in the catering industry I'm certain they brought me frozen chicken tenders that i couldnt even cut. This alone is a disgrace to Indian cuisine. I went on to order a house special biryani. It had no flavour and just spice (which I specifically requested so minimal credit given for that.) While I was eating, my plate got taken away before I could even respond to say I wasn't done so I had to finish eating out of the dish it was served in. I only stayed because we were short on time and hungry since we were only stopping in Penrith briefly. I have been to a lot of Indian restaurants and this may be the worst, especially since everyone seemed to adore it since they likely don't know better due to it being the only local Indian restaurant. I was about to fill out the recommend section then realised I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. Thank you for reading hope this helps.

WELL… me and my wife were up in Penrith as we were travelling, and we decide to give raj a go… what a mistake that was! Walked in and who do we see on the left? IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT. We stayed regrettingly and sat down and ordered. Took about half an hour for someone to actually come and serve us, then another hour just to get our food, which wasn’t even worth the wait as it was the blandest curry I’ve ever had in my life! And the chips were clearly aunt Bessie’s finest. And the bloke had the cheek to ask if I wanted to leave a tip! Don’t recommend this place at all

Service was slow on our visit but it was a bank holiday etc.. so I'm not going to call them out on that. Service was good ragardless of that. The food was great, really loved the taste, everything was fresh. In general a very good curry house.

We had to get used to the bright red colour of the chicken tikka massala, but it was delicious! Naan was quite a big portion. Personally I didn't like the blue Christmas lights, but we had a lovely evening with delicious food.

I visited on a Thurs. It was busy. I thought the food was average and took far too long to arrive.

The staff were very accommodating. I asked for a recommendation off the menu based on my preferences and the chef actually prepared a special dish for me - which was absolutely delicious! The portion sizes are generous, food freshly prepared and extremely tasty. Definitely worth a visit.

Always a pleasure when ordering online or on the phone. Food always tastes great whether its tandoori dishes, dupiaza or madras. Sat in a couple of times in the past and staff always good to you.

We don't eat a lot of takeaway food, but we're so glad we visited this place. We ordered chicken biryani and it was fabulous! Very good portions for the price and the service was quick and efficient with very polite staff. We will be going back for sure 😃😋

Arrived around half 9 for a table for 2. Don't be put off by the 3.9 stars, because the food and the service was great! My partner and I got the lamb tikka and mixed tandoori for starter, Shilla with chicken, mushroom rice and garlic naan for main. Plenty of food for both of us. It was quiet when we arrived and the music could've been better (lol) but the food was authentic. I will always say, there's no point in going to a curry house if you're not gonna order the chef's specials.

We were a large group 9-10 the restaurant accommodated us well and the food and drink arrived promptly and was tasty and enjoyed by all at a very reasonable price

This was a second visit to Penrith this year and a return to Raj. This time after asking about various food options the owner asked if he could make us a specific dish each based on our original choices/request. The result was a fantastic, tasty meal. He took time afterwards to chat to us about the origin of the ingredients he had used. Highly recommend a visit.

Went for an evening dinner and was not disappointed. Service was great, we were looked after well. The dishes were generous and had great flavours. We enjoyed the meal tremendously.

Visiting Penrith for the weekend with my partner. We found Raj restaurant online and decided to book. The food and service was excellent. We could not decide what to have and the waiter asked us what we liked and made his own meal for us. It was beautiful and had everything we had asked for. Had a mixed starter for two which was outstanding and a chutney tray which was like any standard restaurant. I drank wine and it was good. Beers are available, plus other drinks. If we stay in Penrith again we will be back!

Really looking forward to a good curry but was totally disappointed I had a sizzler and the chicken was not piping hot on delivery and my nan bread was lacking meat which I pointed out at the time.

Really nice experience. Our waiter did special vegetarian meals for two of us, one mild and one hot. They also did a special Dall soup with extra garlic.

Final dinner on our vacation. My father ordered off-menu without even realizing it, and the staff invented a dish on the spot so he could get the dish he wanted. They brought us a sauce sampler tray before dinner, along with a special little appetizer with a kind message written on the plate in sauce. The food was fantastic, and to top it off, not nearly as expensive as we would have guessed. The staff made us feel very welcome. I don’t usually leave reviews online but the food and service was so great I wanted to share.

An interesting range of dishes available as well as the “favourites”. The food was good and the staff friendly, but service was slow. Perhaps they had a shortage of staff that night. Each course took some time to arrive and we waited 20 minutes after asking for the bill. A cheerful young waiter came twice to tell us the bill was just coming. But in the end we simply went up to the bar and paid which perhaps we should have done earlier. However, overall we enjoyed the evening.

We went to have a big meal with family we've not seen for ages. But my young daughter was very poorly so we had to leave before the mains came out. We agreed we'd pack ours away to take with us and while we was waiting our waiter (the fella from Loughborough) got her some ice-cream to make her feel better, which was really nice of them. The service was great the food is great and they take good care of you. Can't rate the place enough. We'll definitely be back. Hopefully with a less poorly child

Had a delivery from The Raj, easy ordering on their app and the delivery was prompt. It's always a little nervy getting food from somewhere for the first time but the food was excellent, one of the best Indian takeaways we have had. Highly recommended and we will be having another when next in the area.

We ordered Papad with chutney, Tandoori roti, Aalo parantha, and Chicken dish, and rice. Papad was good. Aalo parantha was very thick with very less potatoes. Roti was okay. They offered to serve a customise chicken curry as we were looking for a mildly spicy desi chicken curry but we didn't like the taste. Had to leave a lot of food wasted.
