We had breakfast here twice during our short stay in London because the patrons were warm and friendly and the food was great! I particularly enjoyed the toasted baguette with avocado and bacon and my husband was happy both times with his eggs and bacon breakfast and also the Nutella filled croissants. The coffee was delicious (we drink our coffee black)!!!

This is my second time coming, they make great lattes and sandwiches. I love to come here for a cheap coffee and read, and this small cafe is the perfect place! Extremely friendly staff and well-priced food.

Was really looking forward to this after reading the reviews unfortunately it didn't live up to expectations. Waited over half an hour for two portions of scrambled eggs. Portions were fairly small. Menu stated that the dish came with tomatoes, but it was only served with two cherry tomatoes. Usually easily pleased but we were starving and wanted to get on with our day!

Excellent spot for breakfast with great service and freshly squeezed juices. I definitely recommend this place for anyone who wants a nice English breakfast and especially if you want to go to the Natural History museum since it’s only 2 minutes away. Great spot, great food, great people

From the minute we entered, we were made to feel very welcome by the staff there and they talked us through the ample menu. We couldn’t decide what to have so ended up having an extra meal to share! The food arrived quickly and was obviously very fresh and tasted delicious. The 2 foccacia sandwiches we had were beautifully melted and the avocado on toast with streaky bacon was also excellent. Not to mention the juices and smoothies - both fantastic! All in all, a perfect place for a delicious brunch and such nice people running it too!

I stumbled across this cafe when I was distracted & enticed by the farmers market on same street. The service was fantastic, accommodating & very welcoming but best of all - THE FOOD so fresh & simple but the combinations & flavours were outstanding. Do yourself a favour when you next venture to the French quarter.

First of all I don't rest write reviews unless something compels me to do so. This is one of those times!Matt's hospitality (owner) and level of service was second to none. It was absolutely incredible - you forget you're in a cafe and feel as though you have walked into the living room of your French family. His interpersonal skills are incredible, and you're not treated like a general customer, instead, you're treated like an extension of his family.The freshness and quality of food served here is exceptional. Plus, the prices are extremely competitive compared to the other places nearby!I have always stopped over to Raison D'etre when ever I am in London. It has a wonderful vibe and the perfect spot for lunch.My favourite sandwich is the Mr Sequin (I think that's the spelling?) on foccacia bread. A delicious mix of artichokes, smoked ham and goats cheese.The homemade cookies are amazing, too!If you're in South Kensington, take the time for lunch/coffee here. nice little cafe.. staff friendly and very helpful.. nice and clean lovely lady recommended a white wine as they had no rose... free jugs of water nice and cold help yourself, lovely pannini's.. nice clean toilet with a SPOON lock the door with! ( the lock was broken )

Cosy cafe. Best hot chococlate with marshmallows I have had. Also had the New York sandwich with focaccia bread, which was also very good, yummy roast beef fillings.

Desayuno buenisimo, nos alojamos un par de dias en londres y ya hemos jurado repetir. El chico es encantador y entiende y habla un poquito español. Hemos compartido un panini i unas tostadas con guacamole i todo estaba delicioso. El zumo de manzana lo mejor, natural y hecho al momento. Hay una extensa carta.

Great service - smiley and attentive. Good food, good coffee, good value. Had the porridge which came with a very generous portion of big juicy blueberries and honey. Yum.

Excellent food, beautifully made and presented with care. Large portions.Daily specials. Friendly, lovely staff. We lunch here often, excellent wine list also. Best to book for lunch to be sure to get a seat, but do go, it's truly a hidden gem. Very reasonable prices too!

Small relaxed cafe on a small relaxed street. Friendly French-speaking staff. Food ok, perhaps not exceptional.

This is a privately owned (French as you would expect from the name) small café close to the British Museum but hidden away on the very trendy Bute Street. Nothing was too much trouble and there was a large variety of freshly prepared food to choose from. By the time we finished lunch time clientele were arriving. I highly recommend it!

I was so surprised that these just cost me about 10 pound and yet taste was delicious especially the cup of cappuccino. Definitely I will come back again!

Currently here at the moment and breakfast was delicious, service was excellent and friendly. Some of the servers talking to each other in French made me feel like I had been transported to france. Hot choc was also amazing. Very Happy customers

Perfect place for a post night out breakfast: friendly quick service, fresh ingredients and good prices in a deservedly full cafe. I had eggs and avocado, he had a panini, we both had coffee. A thumbs up for everything.

Dropped by for a toasted focaccia sandwich and coffee. Both of us had superb sandwiches and nicely made mocha coffees. Lucky timing got us the last table but you can book.

Un petit endroit fort sympathique ou le patron nous accueil d'une façon remarquable et petit plus il parle Français. Le personnel est aussi très sympathique ce qui est vraiment appréciable. La carte est bien fourni et le petit déjeuner dont nous avons profité est vraiment délicieux...le jus de pomme frais et aussi un must, nous garderons vraiment un très bon souvenir de cet établissement.

Primera vez en Londres. Vinimos aquí para desayunar un par de veces. El chocolate caliente era fabuloso, que tuvimos las dos veces. Mi cuñado tenía la tostada de salmón dos veces. El huevo y el tocino estaban bien. El cruasán de Nutella estaba bueno. Hay garrafas de agua disponibles cerca del mostrador. El dueño es de Francia y nos dirigíamos allí. Fue muy útil al contarnos sobre París. Hay un par de cosas que debes saber para no decepcionarte: no recuerdo si había un baño, así que no esperes uno y, si usas una tarjeta, debes gastar más de 10. Es una pequeña tienda que se suma a su encanto, pero si buscas muchos asientos, esto puede molestarte.

Went to Raison D'etre on 8th October for a small lunch. I decided to have the tuna panini and a coffee.

Awesome place to have brunch, had the Cumberland sausage, which is to die for. Can’t recommend strongly enough!

The staff were trying to be helpful, but they couldn’t control the volume of the music. Difficult to talk with friends. Fish cakes were terrible. Lovely humus.

A great place to have breakfast. Nice to get a little away from the touristy areas to find a much better and more reasonably priced breakfast. The goat cheese and avocado toast is fantastic. Great flavor and filling! Welcoming staff as well. Great all around!

Hemos estado aquí en el almuerzo, para un bocado rápido. Pequeño y espartano pero amigable y sencillo. Optamos por sus baguettes: el pan es increíble y mi elección, con salmón, rúcula y aguacate, estaba deliciosa. Buena elección de refrescos y su café es de 5 estrellas.

Raison d'Etre está a pocos pasos de la estación de South Kensington y merece una visita para tomar un aperitivo a la hora del almuerzo. Hay una gran variedad de sándwiches (en pan, focaccia o panini) y algunas deliciosas ensaladas, para llevar o para comer. Las cantidades son generosas.

Raison D’etre is truly a hidden gem in downtown South Kensington. Easily accessible from the South Kensington Tube and the Kensington Hotel, this adorable café is perfect for breakfast, brunch, reading, typing (or all the above). I ordered the scrambled eggs with a baguette with smoked salmon for breakfast and was completely blown away! Never in my life have I had such fresh, delicious smoked salmon (and I’m from a Jewish family)! The manger is a kind man who will step away from work to have a friendly conversation with you, and is often seen getting along well with the locals on the street. If you’re a regular, he’ll remember your order, which gives you a warm feeling and a welcoming vibe to the place. If you have something nice to say (which you will), be sure to tell the manager and/or his chef; they’re nothing but pleased and thankful to hear. Raison D’etre is a MUST-visit if you’re traveling or living in the area. You’ll want to go once, twice, and three times over!!

This place was just around the corner from our hotel and so it became a regular for breakfast after our first very pleasant meal there. It’s unusual to find somewhere in London that’s not a chain so that was another reason to eat there.

Great breakfast! We went as a family of five for multiple days, and after two days they picked up on the pattern and reserved our favorite table for when we showed up the next day!

Dropped in there mid morning as I had an hour between appointments at s nearby hospital (RMH) . Lovely toasted sandwich, really freshly squeezed OJ and a great coffee. A perfect late breakfast.

Visited Raison D’etre with our friends before moving on to the Royal Albert Hall. Very busy and full, Made to feel very welcome and due to weather were offered an inside seat. Food and drink was prepared to order, we had a lovely fresh baguette and Ceaser salad. There's a nice bustling atmosphere with top quality food at a reasonable London price, certainly didn't go hungry. Coffee was also top quality italian style. I would 100% recommend this place. Tables reserved for you even if you have come by chance - this gives a pretty accurate description of quality of service. Moreover food and place are really nice so we are going here for each breakfast of our holidays.

Walking about 2 blocks, we found a small coffee shop. It is quite full but luckily we could sit at the bar. Foods are value for money. Coffee was great

We stopped here by accident and were not disappointed at all. Everything we ordered was excellent. The staff was friendly. The manager came over to see how everything was going. They were closing early as the day before Easter and we sat and had a great conversation with the owner.

We met here ahead of a family day out in London. The staff were very accommodating and helpful, the service was fantastic and the food was excellent! We will be back.

I looked at Raison D'etre on tripadvisor and decided it looked a better option than the hotel. I am so glad we went here. The young man on the phone said he would reserve me a table which was a good job as it seems to be extremely popular. The staff were all very friendly and our breakfast was great. Really fresh and tasty food, much better than a hotel buffet.

Great cafe and have no issues with food service and ambience etc ..... but when it’s busy witheveryone chatting kitchen clinking etc and then on top of that the music is loud, brash and thumping it means you can’t hear your neighbors talk and the experience is not relaxing and becomes tense .... please please when the cafe is busy turn the music off!!! It makes a huge difference and encourages us to come back and relax in your great cafe - don’t spoil your product with this irritating back drop.

Visité Raison D’etre con mi pareja para desayunar un jueves por la mañana. Nos hicieron sentir muy bienvenidos tan pronto como entramos. Esa mañana trabajaban tres muchachos muy amables y atentos. Un verdadero lugar de moda, fresco para relajarse. La comida y la bebida se servían rápido. Ambos teníamos jugo fresco que era realmente agradable. Tuve el aguacate roto con tocino crujiente sobre la masa agria. El cielo, estaba tan sabroso. Definitivamente tienes el valor de tu dinero. Mi compañero tenía el yogur griego con compota de granola y frambuesa. . tamaño de la porción fresca, deliciosa y gran. Recomendaría 100% este lugar a familiares y amigos para el desayuno. Toutes sortes de sandwiches, salades, boissons ou autre! Petit endroit sympa pour un snack sans prise de tête. Pour 7£ j’ai eu un grand sandwich végétarien qui m’a rassasié. Staff très agréable, belle deco et ambiance ! Je recommande

I have been in South Kensington many times before and I can not understand how I missed the gem. Excellent breakfast. Many many choices (also for kids). Great fresh juices. Fresh bread. Super friendly service. Will definitely be back!

Absolutely delicious food. I took my friends there to have lunch in ordered a panini. My friends ordered a salad.

Nous sommes venus manger dans cette sandwicherie ( salade, panini, ect) et c’était super bon. De plus si vous n’êtes pas très alaise avec l’anglais, ici c’est le bonheur car 3 membres sur 4 parlent Français et la 4eme qui ce jour là nous a proposée le menu parle plutôt lentement ce qui facilite la compréhension. Le personnel fait le tour des tables pour voir si tout se passe bien et si vs manquez de quelque chose. Je recommande.

I was recommended by a friend after I asked if he know a local coffee shop what was worth trying as I have tried most of the ones in the neighbourhood and found each one was not the complete package. He assured me that here the coffee was good and the ambiance as well. I came mid afternoon on a very slow day. there were a few students and a couple of patrons. The coffee was average and the panini as on a baguette not a panini despite being told it would be panini style. Nothing wrong with baguette but such an error is not cool in an eatery. It kind of reminds one of 'we only have this so call it whatever the customer wants'. Over all it was ok just average. I think There are better places around both in terms of quality of the coffee and ambiance and general feeling.

Buen sitio para comer algo ligero y seguir recorriendo Londres. No es un restaurante, más tipo café pero tienen ensaladas y bocatas calientes. No es caro para tratarse de Londres.

We kind of stumbled upon this place while looking for breakfast and went back twice over the following days. It has really affordable simple sandwiches, salads, and breakfast. And a good cup of coffee too! The owner is there all the time and is very gracious and chilled out. He even gave us some suggestions of nice places to check out. If you’re looking for a low key spot to have a coffee and a quick bite near South Kensington station this should be high on your list.

Myself,family and friends came here for the first time for a meetup before Christmas. We were not disappointed and the excellent experience we had set us up for the rest of the day. The food was delicious, piping hot coffee and the staff could not have been more helpful (special thank you to Matt). Have decided to use Raisin D’Etre as our pre Christmas meet up venue next year, and the next, and the next.....

Great selection of delicious sandwiches ,good coffe and very friendly staff. The owner made the effort to come to our table and made sure everything was to our satisfaction. It is a shame that we have not found out about this place before. Deflnitely will visit again

Stopped off here before a trip to the museum. Not a lot of room, but the kind owner made a reserved table available for us. Food was delicious - particularly the sausages. Drinks were lovely and everything was reasonably priced. Will be back again!

الأكل كان لذيذ...و لكن النظافة هي مالفتت انتباهي...لا أعلم إن كان في بريطانيا هذا شيء عاديا ام لا...و لكنه كان يمسك شرائح سمك السالمون بيدية بدون قفاز...ثم يمسك الأدوات الباقية من أجهزة و اسطح...ثم يعود لصنع الساندوتشات بدون ان يغسل يدية
