I hadn't had Friday night cod and chips for many years. Holidaying in the New Forest tried this place. Excellent meal good friendly efficient staff reasonable prices. Would recommend to any one who is in the area.

I think I can honestly say this was the worst fish and chips I have ever had. Small bits of fish, burnt chips all of which was swimming in grease, and also very expensive for what you get.

Lovely fresh cod in a light crispy batter. Good chips. Food cooked to order so piping hot too. Parking outside or opposite. Recommended!

A gorgeous, fresh tasty fish and chips cooked to order! And very lovely staff especially the cheeky one who thought I was texting him whilst I waited for my order.

Food was nice, chips were a little dry. Portions were rather small compared to what you'd expect normally for each size category. Huge queues out the door onto the street, certainly a popular spot. It didn't live up to the hype for me but certianly still a decent spot for a classic fish and chips in Brockenhurst.

Really quick service, chips were delicious. Unfortunately we ordered 2 veggie burgers and some quorn nuggets that are now uneaten due to cross contamination. They were put on the same hot plate that has just had battered fish on it. Also the two burgers came with lots of Ketchup on which was not stated on the menu and neither of us can eat Ketchup. Super disappointed and wish I had said something at the time.

We've been going here regularly for 6 years. The food has always been really good and service from Chris and his team warm and friendly. The fish has recently gone from good to fantastic and I thought I should review them! I don't know if they're doing something different, but keep doing it!

The best fish I’ve ever had, but the chips were the worst ever. After a busy day at Netley Marsh Steam Rally I called in for fish and chips for my son and I. Cost just over £20, but I was too tired to cook. We were the only customers. The fish was superb, but the chips were so bad neither of us ate them! So disappointing. It should have been obvious that they were soft and floppy. Unacceptable at this price.

Hot food, good service but portion size is very small for the price, never seen a battered sausage so small, chips also overcooked. Feel cheated enough to write this review.

We ordered cod and haddock with medium chips, waiting time less than 5 min, portions size very decent, all was very tasty and appeared to be fresh. It appears to be the only fish and chips place in locally and when we visit again we would not look further as can really recommend this place.

Opening times need updating. Not open on a sunday, however it is online!

First visit to this fish and chip shop during our visit to the New Forest for Friday Fish & Chips! I was so pleased that it offered the ‘half cod & small chips’ as I can never manage a full portion! This was still a very generous size portion and at a very reasonable cost! I will definitely return on my next visit to the New Forest.

Looked up places for food when in brockenhurst and we were not disappointed! Delicious chips and a good menu selection, good value for money too.

Having spent over £75 combined would not even provide a 10p bag when we had no cash. Portion sizes are absolutely shocking and food was cold and uncooked. We were short a meal that we paid for. Service was abrupt, avoid at all costs.

We are SO lucky to live in Brockenhurst and have the Rainbow Fish Bar at the other end of Sway Road to where we live. Every time we go, the quality of the food, especially the fish and chips is excellent. Always freshly cooked, hot and the best quality of fish. Overall it is a great takeway experience which the whole family enjoy. If you like other things they do a great range of pies, sausages and other things as well as sauces pickles and drinks. Quite excellent and definitely worth travelling for!

We had a quick pitstop here as a group of six to get some short notice food. We've probably been spoiled a bit by our local chippie which sells ridiculously large portions at very reasonable prices. Food here was good, quickly cooked and tasty. It's not cheap, and the portions aren't what we are used to, but it's well worth visiting if you have a hankering for some fish and chips.

After seeing their review in the 2023 Fish and Chip awards we decided to give them a try. Travelled over from Gosport for a lunchtime treat on my daughter’s birthday and it was well worth the journey. Fish cooked to order was super flakey and the chips were lovely. Will be planning a return trip soon.

Ordered cheesy chips, garlic mushrooms and cod roe from a very pleasant member of staff, which were then cooked to perfection very speedily. Highly recommended.

We had a burger, fish cakes and chips. What a lovely change to have a burger without all the fancy expensive trimmings, that restaurants and pubs now offer. This was a great tasting, superbly priced burger and the chips were plentiful and great tasting too. Hubby said fish cakes were delicious.

We came across this place while out the forest. We found it very expensive for what we had.

So the BUTTERY down the road kicked us out and didn’t give a reason but the RAINBOW fish Bar was our next destination. We were welcomed with open arms by two lovely human Chris and Debra who gave us some immaculate warm banter as well as some much needed fish and scampi and fish cakes. Have been visiting Rainbow every summer for years. I consider it one of, if not, the best I have visited - I am 70plus and have travelled all over England. Food is top class and staff are friendly, happy and efficient. One of the highlights of caravanning near Brockenhurst.

Stayed in the brockenhurst area and we got ourselves cod and chips one lunch time it was very tasty we couldn't fault it.

Lovely chips and pleasant staff, definitely would return to this chippy if and when im in the area.

Absolutely delicious chips! Non greasy, not too thick, so not floury in the middle. Good flavour and crispy texture. Very good amount- ordered a large portion; plenty for 2 adults. Husband had a chicken and mushroom pie. Good flavour; slightly lacking in texture as microwaved rather than oven heated. Good value.

Wow how things have changed this place used to sell the best fish and chips around. Unfortunately not now the fish was overcooked and dry the batter burned and swimming in fat. The chips were soggy. Most of this ended up in the bin, an expensive lesson as the whole meal was wildly over priced.

Very friendly staff we had large chips, cod and curry sauce and I have to say it was great we will be definitely back for more loved it.

We visited on the way home from the south coast town of Lymington. The fish and chip take away was good value especially when we saw that cod and medium chips consisted of a large amount of chips in the bag topped with a tasty crispy battered cod. All in all good value. They sold other stuff but we only bought cod and chips and haddock and chips.

Had chips and curry sauce, though I'll be honest I wasn't overly keen on the curry sauce. Handy after a long drive down to the NF. Friendly service

Came here in 2019 with my son and brought the whole family this time around as part of our camping holiday. Great food and service. Only recommendation is to add some vege options

Reasonable size portions, but EXTREMELY greasey! Absolutely swimming. They apparently also only use palm oil which is not at all environmentally friendly. You would think that living and working in a beautiful forest they would be more concerned about the rainforests that are being destroyed to grow palm oil plants 😢

Didn't go in the shop myself, but the food was really good and my daughter says the guy who served her was more than happy to take a load of change, so overall excellent on all fronts.

We have been using this Fish Bar for many years whilst on holiday in the New Forest. However the choice has decreased and there are not many vegetarian options available. A vegetable curry pasty would be nice or at least a cheese and onion pasty. Prices are going up everywhere, but the portions are getting smaller.

Always pop in now and again as it's my local chippy. best Fish & Chips I've ever had. everything high quality, and a very clean premises. The Spicy chicken burgers are outstanding! Would always recommend them!

It's okay. I find the chips are almost cold. And the fish is a bit dry. (Cod). These days it costs a lot to eat from the chippy. So disappointing really. 😞

Been visiting the New Forest for more than 25 years and have always had a fish and chip supper from Rainbow - have to say was very disappointed this time - the bags of food were dripping in grease, the curry sauce was more like gravy with a bit of spice and the fish was definitely over cooked - was convinced there must be new management- but apparently not . Oh dear what has gone wrong here ? Will try again next time we visit as everyone has an off day but really need to see a return to the previous excellent quality

Ate chips and battered sausage last night - couldn’t fault the food but seriously?!? - How can a Chippy not sell baked beans?! Mushy peas, curry sauce, pickled eggs…. But no baked beans!?!? ….??!?

£4.20 for a small sausage, (fair enough I’d taken a tiny bite from one end but still small). As for the chips, a measly ‘portion’ made worse by being well overcooked. Appalling for the price/quality/quantity.

On holiday in Beaulieu just decided to have fish and chips nearest one was Rainbow Fish Bar,looking at the reviews but undecided.Drove about 5miles glad I did the fish was absolutely gorgeous the chips were ok but my fault just warm as distance on return but still very nice can't fault it bit pricey but that the state of everything at the moment very nice meal thank you

I last had fish & chips from the rainbow fish bar 24 years ago when I lived in Brockenhurst with my family. I've always reminisced fondly about the white vinegar (pickled onion vinegar I think?) and the superb food in general. It was a joy to bring my own young family back here a couple of weeks ago. It's still owned by the same chaps as it was way back when and having a little reminisce as our food was prepared was really enjoyable and brought memories flooding back. The food was every bit as good as I remembered. Chips were hot & crispy, and the fish was fresh and flaky. I've always been a S&V fiend so having the ability to pour it on yourself is amazing. The white vinegar though, god, I wish that was available everywhere! It's just bloody brilliant. Thank you guys!

Tiny portions of fish, chips, only half a sausage, if I hadn't seen the receipt I'd have thought I'd ordered child portions!!!! Would not go back, I'd rather travel further!!

Friendly guy but noticed on eating our chicken and chips that the reason he'd suggested putting our 1 large chip order into 2 bags was because he already had 2 bags of chips hanging around. The chicken was great but the chips were terrible, old and reheated. Such a disappointment.

Amazing fish and chips. It was lovely to have fish in batter for a change rather than a load of batter with fish. The portions were also very generous. We were only visiting for one night but will definitely be back for more fish and chips next time we are in the area.

Ben going to the rainbow for quite a long time, went there on our wedding anniversary , then drove back to sussex for covid lock down, so we go there a lot now and sit on the forest to eat f@ c, what's better
