Railway Tavern in Thurrock

It started with a guy doing balloons in the car outside and ended with a drug deal in the middle of the road as we were pulling away. Not the restaurants fault to be fair but it gives you the idea of what a sh*t hole the area is. Now the food. Carbonara was bland , beef rags over cooked and dry and pizza was average but a bit light on toppings. 1 st impressions was to leave wish we had. It was recommended by a guy I play football with. DC thanks mate it’s a carsey ! Never give me a recommendation again please.

Decided at a last minute to have an anniversary meal at Gino's. No problems with getting a table as it was midweek and demand was low! Nice atmosphere and good service by the staff. Keeping it simple I had the Rib Eye steak,my wife the chicken and my stepdaughter a pizza. I am very wary of steak as so often it's very chewy. This was perfect. Juicy and cooked just as I like. Served with saute potatoes delicious. The pizza was large and tasty and the chicken was well received

We loved this place. Its got a nice atmosphere, the food was excellent. Sunday lunch is highly recommended, it was delicious. The service was really good, with friendly staff. The pricing I thought was spot on. I'd definitely recommend and we'll be going back again.

Lovely lunch with good service. Very tasty homemade soup followed by chicken Milanese, then brownie and ice cream. Easy going background music and happy, helpful staff. Can’t wait to go again.

Went for a family meal very disappointed. Everyone got served their meal except me. Waited nearly 15 minutes for it to come out by this time everyone had finished their meal. When mine came out the lamb was tough and the only thing hot was the gravy which is a shame as we had heard good things about this restaurant but I would not go back.my meal was a total waste of money

I would like to say first time eating here & food was very nice calamari,king prawn linguine,pineapple/malibu pannacotta & partner had garlic chilli prawns all very tasty. Staff friendly too would defo recommend & we would defo come back. (My only downside was the mats's on table were very itchy lol ,so not a real complaint just me being fussy ha ha)

Love! Love! Love! Gino’s Taverna is an amazing local eatery that I would pick over any other restaurant! The service is outstanding, the food is delicious and the atmosphere is relaxing. Gino’s was the first restaurant we tried when we moved to Stanford-Le-Hope 18 months ago and we keep returning. The chef, Dave is one of the best chefs I have come across and the hosts George and Bernie are so warm and welcoming. I recommend anyone local or not to try Gino’s Taverna and I can assure you that you’ll keep going back.

We went to ginos as we had never been and wanted to see what is was like First got there drinks came quick no problem Food took ages to be ordered then when was orders was a very very long wait but we was given a free drink because of it When food finally got there was super nice really good food we was really impressed Overall nice place with good food just need to get it out quicker

Great king prawn linguini. Visited for Father's day service was quick and the place was busy. Food was tasty and plenty of it.

Have never eaten before, have only had deliveries which has always been delicious. Came here on a Monday night and the service and food was amazing. I had scallops which were the best I have had in a long time. Main was the ragu which was delicious. The beef chunks were melt in the mouth and the pasta was cooked to perfection. Dessert was panna cotta which was so light and just the right consistency. Would have taken more pics but I ate it all too quickly! Fabulous experience and will definitely be returning .

I cannot fault this place. We were made to feel special.Food and service was fantastic. This is definitely going to be a regular place for us to use.

Appalling. Went here a few months back and was really lovely, especially the woman who had served my partner and I. Went back this evening expecting the same great service and received the complete opposite. The male waiter was rude to us from the get go as we didn’t know whether we wanted to sit in and he told us ‘this is a restaurant’ and was funny with us both ordering a tap water after they didn’t have the drink I would’ve liked and had last time. I ordered the bruschetta and bolognaise. The bruschetta was just smothered in tomatoes with barely any onion and the bread was like a brick to eat. When the waiter asked why I didn’t like he gave us a dirty look. Was then told by the chef that there was no bolognaise, was offered a ragu instead with big chunks of beef, I told him I would’ve preferred the pasta and sauce to which he told me he had some sauce left and would make something up. I checked with the waiter as to what the chef was doing about my dish and my partner informed him that I will not eat big chunks of meat, I was told that the chef was making something. Once received my dish it was completely different to what I had ordered, not a spaghetti bolognaise or anything close. The meat was chunky, the pasta was undercooked, definitely wasn’t spaghetti and the sauce just tasted of alcohol. Myself and partner both tried my dish and agreed that it was not ok and considering I am pregnant that I shouldn’t attempt to eat such a dish with a lot of alcohol. When we tried to leave and pay the waiter got very annoyed and funny with us, informing us that we cannot use the tastecard deal we had as we hadn’t purchased drinks and that we had to pay for everything ordered including what we didn’t eat. He then told us that the restaurant doesn’t accept card or the tastecard which is rubbish as we used both last time we came. After the incident becoming heated the waiter agreed to use the tastecard and we managed to pay and leave with the waiter muttering awful things such as ‘you didn’t even know what you wanted when you walked in’ and others that I won’t mention. As I said previously this is appalling as the female waitress we had last time was a huge help and star, so so lovely and the food was amazing but this time round the male waiter was rude, judgemental and argumentative plus arrogant. Definitely will not be going back there and would not recommend. Maybe it was because my partner and I are young? Who knows? However this is not the service we expected to be receiving from such a high rated, well loved restaurant of Stanford-Le-Hope.

Extremely poor service from start to finish The waiter was extremely rude and unprofessional. Was served the wrong dish, with what was served having undercooked pasta. When we mentioned this the waiter told us it wasn't undercooked and was cooked 10minutes before even being bought out. Waiter then tried refusing to allow us to use our taste card, and was being continuely rude, as well as muttering things under his breath. Can understand now why the restaurant is always empty. Terrible food, terrible service, terrible atmosphere

Food was lovely. George who was serving was a class act, very attentive. No pressure to be finished. Good selection of food. We would highly recommend Ginos’s for a pleasant relaxed meal.

I moved to Stanford-Le-Hope a little over a year ago and visited Gino’s not to long after. What can I say but WOW! They never disappoint, the food is always next level and so fresh! They are always adding specials depending on the fresh fish or steaks they have acquired that day. I am in love with the way they cook their scallops, they are honestly the best I’ve ever had and always have them as a starter every time I visit. And their steaks…… OMG they’re so succulent and just melt in your mouth! Me and my partner like going to new places but having Gino’s on our doorstep we continue to return. The team that works there are always so lovely and always provide the best service! If you haven’t tried Gino’s you are missing out on the best food around!

Visited here after seeing the deal on Meetkat Meals - On first glance, wasn't sure what to expect as it was a quiet Wednesday evening and we were the only people in the restaurant However, once we received our meal of fillet steaks, we were amazed the place was not fully booked! The steak was outstanding, beautifully cooked and tasted amazing - The staff were very friendly, we even had the chef come to the table to check we were happy with our food, and for the price, we were blown away 10000% would return and would highly recommend

Booked as an Italian but a couple of days before got sent a set menu and had to pre order from a Sunday roast choice Did was very average but not a romantic or nice place. Don’t bother going

Amazing Sunday roast.. Not a lot of restaurants perfect the roast potato but oh my word, they was spot on. Food tasted great, fresh and of good quality. Staff are friendly and welcoming with the owner walking around interacting with guests. A really lovely place to eat for all.

We have used this friendly local restaurant a number of times.Food is good, lockdown pizza was enjoyable and take out options.On Our recent EOTHO visit the food was really good, but unfortunately we were not comfortable with the Covid Security on this visit, tables to close to other diners and tables laid.Will wait until the EOTHO has ended before we visit again.

The staff were very friendly and accommodating and the food was really nicely presented. Mushroom starter was very pleasing to look at and really full of flavour. Two of us had the steak offer of buy one get one half price, which was handy as sauces and sides were extra. Tiramisu was lovely, a little different from a usual one, flavoured with Amaretto? We all left stuffed, impressed and vowed to come again together and separately with partners.

What a wonderful evening we had.Everything from the food to the service was outstanding. I had the prawns to start and they were incredible and cooked beautifully. My boyfriend who doesn’t usually like prawns, tried one and said he would happily order that starter himself next time. He also said, the dough balls were the best he’s ever had, as they were actual dough balls and not bread balls, again, they were cooked perfectly.We both had a steak for our main from the specials menu. We didn’t need to peppercorn sauce we ordered as it was so well marinated. We saw various members of the staff, with the chef coming to see how the food was, the owner Gino getting involved and clearing our plates, the waitresses were attentive and super friendly too.This restaurant is genuinely such a gem. It was professional, but also felt homely and rustic at the same time. We are still talking about the food and the restaurant the next day and cannot wait to return. Thank you Gino’s Taverna.

we came here with our friends purely because the wonderful reviews, none of us was dissapointed we all had such a great night ,the food was more than perfect .It was lovely to sit there and after having a starter sitting waiting for a nice time for mains we have never been to a resturant where your food comes up with steam coming from it absulutley perfect ,NOT forgetting to mention the outstanding staff who looked after us and made us feel like family ,Emma,Barny,and Barbara,also Craig and David head chefs that found the time to come to our table and sat and chat.

We have eaten here several times and chose to have our lunch on Christmas Day in Gino’s. It was absolutely fabulous. All three courses (from a choice on the special menu) were delicious. Service was prompt and food intolerances catered for without fuss. The restaurant was very busy, but you didn’t feel rushed at all. We will definitely return.

A great little place ! lovely food, good sizeable portions, nice traditional decor, clean, and with excellent friendly service. Gino took our orders and the chef/manager was very accommodating as we asked about the various dishes. I was very impressed with the service. Been here before for Sunday lunch and wanted to try the Italian food so booked for a weekday. Starters are great. Had tagliatelle a le mare for main which was excellent. Even squeezed a dessert in. Great food.

Visited Gino’s Taverna on a Friday evening and was well impressed. Very authentic Italian feel with A1 staff and service. Food and wine very good. Socially a lovely atmosphere with a little Italian singsong by the guests.

We were looked after from start to finish. 9 of us enjoyed each course which varied from steaks, sea bass and pasta. All really tasty with lovely fresh vegetables. Not one complaint as it was all delicious!!

Visited this Taverna for the first time with my Wife for a weekday birthday celebration lunch and glad we did. While located inside a pub, the Taverna has its own entrance and has created a rustic Italian theme. As stated per previous reviews the staff provide a warm and friendly welcome and the Chef (Smiffy) takes a keen interest in his diners and was very solicitous, to ensure that everything was ok with our meal. While the menu was not extensive, there was a good selection of dishes available and all fo the food was freshly cooked with generous portions and was very reasonably priced. We will definitely be returning

Good to sea an Italian restaurant open in Stanford so my wife and daughter and me gave it a try. Sunday lunch was good with plenty of veg and starters and dessert added final touches. Looking forward to eating Italian here soon

Having eaten here twice before I thought it would be the perfect venue for our function.

I attended Ginos yesterday after hearing many people saying how fantastic it is and I can honestly say i wasn’t disappointed ! Had a calamari starter that was Amazing and one of the nicest starters I’ve had in a long time . Then had a Roast dinner that I can honestly say was spot on .. particularly the roast potatoes which were to die for ! Add to that the rest of the meal was cooked to perfection and covered in the tastiest gravy ever I can’t fault this meal one bit ! If you haven’t tried this place yet .. YOU MUST ! What an amazing little restaurant .. will Defo be going back and recommending it to all my friends and family .. one word to sum it all up .. PERFECT !

We’d heard about the food at Gino’s Taverna so thought we should give it a go.

Just moved to the area and exploring whats on offer locally so thrilled to find this little gem on our doorstep.We arrived on a Wednesday evening, and had a delicious chicken marsala and a steak rossini and a couple of drinks all cooked beatifully in our opinion. Pleasant friendly service and traditional taverna/pub surroundings,It wasnt particularly busy, but it should have been, and we cant comment on what happens the rest of the week as this was our first visit, but it certainly Wont be the last.Hope it thrives. Also good value for such nice food

9 of us ate here together and it was a great experience from start to finish. Menu is varied without having pages and pages to choose from. This means what they cook they cook very well!

I thought I try this restaurant for my mother’s birthday, honestly the best food I have eaten in a long time, great service, nice and calm atmosphere and reasonable pricing, I would recommend everyone to go give it a try, you won’t regret it

Gino and his staff were very welcoming. The roast dinner was delicious! Defiantly the best one in the area. Make sure you save room for the home made deserts. I highly recommend the cheesecake.

I've ate here many times and there's no expense spared on the quality of food. All cooked fresh, no frozen cr*p! Sunday roasts are great quality and also some themed nights always a hit locally!

Enjoyed our belated valentines dinner here. A Limited menu, a good thing as it indicates everything is freshly prepared to order. Starter and mains delicious, the beef ragu was excellent , the lemon posset dessert was very rich and the portion huge, would have been happy with less.

I real gem where you would least expect it. Authentic Italian food , well presented and good customer service and fairly priced. We will definitely be back very soon.

Visited Gino’s Taverna last night, first time, used the meerkat meals 2 for 1 but would have paid full price! Food was excellent, huge portions, both Gino and the resident chef introduced themselves to us! Will definitely be back, we have to try the desserts next time!

My husband and I went in to Gino’s and had a wonderful meal. The bruschetta starter was amazing. My husband had steak, was well cooked and absolutely delicious. My king prawn linguine was full of prawns and cherry tomatoes - scrummy. We will definitely return.

The food is amazing the chef is excellent. Highly recommended very friendly staff top meal. The steaks were just perfect and good kids meals too.

We have been long time residents of Stanford and have always avoided the railway pub over the years - however having seen the recent reviews of the taverna that had opened we thought we would give it a go as Stanford doesn’t really have many nice restaurants-

Just had a really lovely three course meal. It was difficult deciding what to have as there is a good choice. They had a nice atmosphere and friendly people, so all in all a great success.

Just made our first visit to Gino's taverna, blown away to be honest !! Welcome, service and quality of food. We arrived fairly early at 5.30pm but by 7.00pm the place was full. Couldn't fault any of the courses, 3 of them with wine, beers and dodgy coffees for four of us @ £140, proper chuffed and satisfied, deffo be back.

Popped in to Ginos for Sunday Lunch, very warm welcome by Gino and staff. Superb friendly service and the food was excellent. One small gripe was that not enough vegetables served for four people but I guess we could have asked for more, highly recommend.

Food and Service was fabulous a new Business finding its feet .. Had a lovely meal here and it was very refreshing to receive such a warm welcome by all .. our lovely waitress chatted and said this was a new role for her which you wouldn't of known as she was so friendly ... best review I can give is to say as I left I said I would return and guess what less than a week later I have managed to secure a booking here!!! ... well worth a visit and well worth supporting a local Business

Drove around to a few places but this was definitely the best. Played some pool, beat my mum, food came out, absolutely delicious. Eve behind the bar was lovely too. Hope to return again 😀

Took the family here to celebrate the mum in laws 90 birthday. It was a Sunday roast for 26 people. We had the 3 coarse meal. Choice of starters were good and the mains were a selection of meats, all were nice cuts and cooked well with a good selection of veg and a great Yorkshire pudding. If you want a good roast this is worth a try.

I have been eating in the Railway Tavern for 3 to 4 weeks now, cannot fault the place for tasty pub grub. From the all breakfast to the steak which was amazing I have to say. The 1 meal that did take a bit longer was the steak & ale pie, but this is because it is freshly made. But still they were apologizing for the wait. So far has I am concerned it was well worth the wait. Excellent & very helpful staff.

Couldn't fault any of the meals I have had, food is lovely and all homemade! I would highly recommend.

Went here on a recommendation and was not disappointed. Choice of 1, 2 or 3 courses and very reasonably priced. We all enjoyed our meals and have booked to go back next month. They even bought me out a side plate of extra Yorkshire puddings as it was my birthday! They have a great selection of drinks available too, especially enjoyed the Prahva lager on draught. Very happy customers, looking forward to our next visit.

Great Sunday roast and great atmosphere. Nice big garden with plenty for the family to enjoy. Also has all sporting events on big screen in back bar so the perfect Sunday !
