Railway Tavern in Breckland

Paul and the team go above and beyond to ensure your experience is a good one. We held my mums Wake at the Railway Tavern, my mum has always loved it there as we have had 4 previous family functions there. We had chip butties which were a favourite of my mum’s, the chips are always extremely good as any of the food on the chip shop menu, we don’t go anywhere else! Thank you for going above and beyond again.

Fish and chips are good value and the chips are absolutely sensational. Great atmosphere in the pub section too. They just don't make places like this anymore ..fish and chips and a bar showing live sport , you can't ask for more

Have just been told the order my daughter had made has been cancelled, the reason, ‘we can’t get to your order’ !!!???……..what sort of explanation is that? Won’t be ordering again, dreadful customer service, should be 0 stars.

Called in for Fish a Chips Saturday lunch.Not one to leave a poor review as it can hurt local businesses but this was poor. Chips were either classic Reheat s or had been sitting for ages they had all the potato crunchiness of Boiled Pasta. You put your fork into the fish batter and vegetable oil oozed out. The fish was bland we both left 50 % of our meals. Maybe we were unlucky . But it wasn't good.

It was very busy with a football crowd, however they were pleasant and there was no aggression. The atmosphere was good. The bar staff were working as quickly as possible but later in the afternoon ran out of several pump beers.

Was great once now very poor large cod size of a med food quality very poor go somewhere else

We had our Daughter christened on Sunday 17th September with our celebrations continuing at The Railway Tavern. We cannot thank Paul & Debbie enough for all they had done in regards to preparing and organising, nothing was too much trouble. They had organised a yummy spread for our guests (which received many compliments!), they had even offered to decorate the marquee for us so it was one less job for us to worry about and it looked beautiful. Their staff were fantastic, always making sure we were ok and if there was anything we needed. They had even made a little soft play area for the little ones 🥹 We really cannot thank you all enough and we would not hesitate in recommending you to friends & family ❤️

I can’t thank the tavern enough for letting us host a team building afternoon. The staff were attentive, we had use of the gazebo and the fish and chips were excellent! Thank you Paul and the team at the tavern

Possibly the worst fish & chips ever served. Over £10 for what was supposed to be a large portion. I’ve never seen a thinner piece of fish. I’d be embarrassed to serve that!

Had medium haddock and chips and mushy peas. The peas were great and the chips , unfortunately being a fish+chip lover it was the worst I've ever had very chewy all skin which I love and batter ,the actual size of white fish was the size of two lemon slices of which I pointed out to bar staff.

Had a family gathering there , lovely people behind bar , very helpful

Amazing find. Great fish and chips. Really fresh and so reasonably priced. Shows that a good locals pub can produce good quality food and a clean environment with amazing service.

Love this pub and a great idea having a fish and chip shop connected to it. I always have a great time drinking here with a great selection of beers and ciders on tap and some great customer service. Owner is also really friendly and hosts some amazing events for the football and other sporting events. Highly recommend !

definitely a new concept a pub with a fish and chip shop, but had to say it worked and the chips where brilliant.

Commenting on the very excellent fish & chip shop rather than the attached pub. Fantastic gluten free fish & chips available here every day with advance order & safe practices to prevent cross contamination re Coeliac dietary requirements. The adjacent pub always looks inviting, is popular with locals & had fabulous live music out on the patio yesterday evening ( Dereham music festival event at several pubs). Highly recommended both GF & normal fish & chips here!

Beautiful gluten free fish and chips.

Pub with a chippy. Never come across that before. Very friendly bar maid or what ever you are allowed to call a female serving in a pub these days.

Cosy local with chip shop attached. Throw in a nice function room that copes with 100 people & you can see why it's popular.

Went in for fish and chips , very cold day . We sat inside and ate it was very nice and the two young ladies that served us were very pleasant and helpful

Absolutely love this place, portions are always a good size, never leave here hungry, staff always friendly, sometimes we'll just pop in for a latte and a sandwich and still just as good. Definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants a tasty hearty meal

Food and service was good but it was very cold in there as they had to leave the door open to disperse the smoke from one of the fryers.

Very bustling busy business, my experience was nice fish and chips although very small portions because of the rising costs of just about everything, the wait times can be quite long too for your order as they are so popular, big TV screen in adjacent room is great if you like football/sports and a noisy atmosphere.

A great welcoming pub where they support our Armed Forces Breakfast Club and do loads for the community.

Good service, tasty fish and chips.

Had the most delicious fish and chips lovely and moist. The only reason I didn't give 5stars is because where the dining area is its very noisy.

We have ordered fish and chips from here several times and the food is hit and miss, I think 2 out of 10 times the food has been perfect, the rest of the time it has been extremely greasy and the batter has been very dark, dry and hard. It's a shame really as they are the only fish and chip shop that do dairy and gluten free. Recently even the dairy and gluten free curry sauce has taken a hit as it is like thin curry tasting gravy.

Best fish and chips take out or eat in I have ever had, only thing that put me off was it was so, so busy and very loud. Guess that the price you pay though for the best fish and chips (+ intensive menu) for miles around.

For me, I don't get enough chances to have cheesy chips and a beer. Here, I get that and sport on numerous TVs and a good friendly atmosphere. Probably the best combination you can have. A fish and chip shop and a pub in one!!! Alot of people enjoy coming here and there's multiple reasons why.

Walked down for loaded fries browsed the menu prominently on display out the front, queued for ages to be told they don't do them on a Friday teatime. Might be worth taking the board in or making that clear somewhere...

Came here before watching CITY play Norwich the landlord was great and staff were really friendly and they do a great fish and Chips too

Chips were greasy and oily, as was the haddock. It was very watery and soggy.

Family owned freehold public house/sports TV screens broadcast the premier league matches and international football games. The adjacent marquee functions well for Family gatherings, live music, buffets and music. #tiffanarty worked there October-December 2019-during the sage sagas.

What's not to like it's a one stop shop call in for fish and chips and have a cheeky pint 🍺🍺

Great fish and chips and friendly atmosphere

Amazing pub, with a great atmosphere, attentive staff who went out of their way to make sure we had what we needed. The landlord and landlady do lots for charity and we had an amazing night and they raised a significant amount on the night for the Lee Rigby Football Club ⚽️ and Triple V Project, raising money for the purchase of caravans for bereaved military families.

I had a wonderful evening ,I was made to feel very welcome by the landlord . Will definitely be going back .

We were looking for a good place to buy fish & chips. We found a really good place at "The Railway Tavern". Great cod and chips,very good choice of other dishes and take away. Glad we tried it..

Not local to Dereham but as we have family there we visit often. The Railway Tavern is a pleasant, friendly sports bar with a small play area outside and an area for private parties if needed.

Had fish and chips there was a wafer thin piece of haddock between about 4" of greasy batter and chips were not good. Definitely gone down hill.

Interesting place which has a built in fish and chip shop. Dog friendly.

I tend to use this bar solely for the attached fish n chip shop. Good freshly cooked food does res8in a few minutes wait, but that's worthwhile when you get the food home. They do have gluten free options available too, but best to phone such an order through in advance to avoid delays.

The Fish and chip shop is really great with very good service and great food.

Visiting the area for the weekend and was amazed at the pub. Went to watch the rugby and they had more TV's than PC World. Quality service and cheap prices. There is even a fish and chip shop inside! After the rugby, a live band started playing who were immense. Top quality visit very impressed.

The fish and chips side of the pub was extremely busy with this popular pub not being empty either. Many charity events and fund raisers are promoted by the landlord/owners.

A prominent positioned landmark in Dereham. Good parking & a dynamic young team of friendly, fryers. Seems to be struggling through this Covid crisis. Without being too harsh, I was insulted by what I was served .Recylced, over cooked chips with a small, cheap cut of fish. Next time I will go elsewhere to save further disappointment.
