Had family visiting from Stoke on Trent and wanted to take them for lunch and The Railway was the only place I could think of where they would be welcomed warmly by the staff, have an excellent lunch and get to try some amazing puddings (added a picture of my pudding as it was out of this world and the presentation was beautiful) and they were very happy with their experience! Beautiful outdoor area, plenty of water refills for our dog and the food was excellent as always. Allison and the team deserve all the recognition for how hard they work! 😊

We were early in the evening and the only people having a meal at that time and the white wine was not effectively chilled. (excuse, it was a very hot day) Starters: Garlic Mushrooms - came as a soup, very salty and not very garlicky, (frozen and thawed?) Brie salad was very nice; Mains: Beef pie with vegetables - The crust was hard as concrete, plenty of beef but too salty. Vegetables were acceptable. The fish pie should have been called Fish and Vegetable pie as it had green beans and cabbage in addition to the accepted peas. There were visible shrimps, and a few morsels of white fish but it was rather watery, again probably frozen and the vegetables in it must have given off water in the reheating. The service was very good and pleasant and having commented on the concrete pastry the cost of this meal was deleted from our hill, which we appreciated. Some extras were added to the fish meal i.e., asparagus at our request.

A relaxed and friendly pub with better than average pub grub. Any negative comments on service speed are harsh because on weeknights there is only one front of house staff member to manage both the bar and restaurant service - they are doing their absolute best in sometimes surprisingly busy periods and if you are a little patient you will find yourself in receipt of excellent service for a decent price. Our family enjoys being able to shift from the playful pub side with a new pool table, darts and electronic gambler across to the dining tables when the time comes.

Our room number 2, after confusion of booking was clean and overall comfortable but needed a bit of TLC, the bed mattress could be better quality, toilet seat was loose and incorrectly fitted, shower hose had to be re-attached ( incorrectly fitted) shower rail needs moving to allow for height adjustment, and ceiling had cracks which were badly repaired. Slightly over priced.

This turned out to be a really unpleasant experience. Ordered food, which took an age to come. We understood and accepted that because the bar person was doing everything. We had to complain about the tasteless Lasagne. No bechemel, tiny amount of cheese (mozzarella only) and completely tasteless (lack of seasoning) also my wifes fish was practically raw. They didn't replace the Lasagne and were a little stroppy, asking whats wrong with it! ... however they did replace the fish and chips but the batter was still sloppy and uncooked on the inside. Whilst the meal was being replaced there was an attitude, so i pointed out that my medium rare steak was infact blue and cold but i wasn't complaining because i can eat my steak that way.... "unfortunately the worst was to come" On peying the bill, i was asked was the second fish ok., to which i replied " to be honest, no. The batter was uncooked inside, but not to worry. I paid the full amount of the bill......BUT! AS WE WERE EXITING, THE BAR PERSON SHOUET SARCASTICALLY..... THANKYOU DONT COME BACK ! A really unprofessional end to what was a poor standard. So poor infact that i would have been within my rights not to pay.

We popped in for Thursday lunch during half term. Ordered the Beef and Ale pie which was great! Great Gravy, pie, chips and veg. The Gammon was tasty and our young daughters shared the large fish and chips after some handy advice from our waitress. Desserts were brilliant, Brownie was excellent, chocolate Cheesecake was spot on and the Cookie Dough pie was nice and soft! Well kept pint of Guinness and 6X. Great service too and will be back soon!

Good hotel spoilt by alarm going off since 5.30 am. The rooms are lovely, room 3 is alot bigger than rooms 1 and 2 and has bath/shower, huge bathroom, living area with sofa, outside balcony with seating area and 2 single beds ( could do with making it into a double bed as this would make a nice suite for couples. Room 2 was smaller and had double bed, shower (no bath which I would of preferred) 2 small tub chairs and patio doors look out to parked cars directly underneath the view. Hotel is spotless and tea, coffee, biscuits provided in rooms along with shampoo, shower gel and towels. Overall the hotel is great but was spoilt by the fire alarm going off from 5.30am waking us all up and not turning off. Occupants in room 1, 2 and 3 all went outside at this time in case if a fire, we were all stood outside in Pyjamas and tried phoning management of the railway but got no answer, we knocked on pub door and windows again no answer, phones in rooms didn't work, tried phoning off our mobiles loads of times again no answer, nobody turned up, if there had of been a fire no one from the railway would of been aware. Something needs to change incase of an emergency, maybe provide works mobile number. The guy in room 1 was trying to contact them from sat inside his car but he couldn't get through either. He left straight away, we went back into the room to get our suitcase, quickly changing and left. Bare in mind we were going to a christening that morning and wanted to spend time getting ready for it in the hotel. The noise was terrible and was deafening. We left and went elsewhere but returned about 9.30am to return the key, again alarm still ringing and not a sole about We went to the christening but were absolutely shattered as was woken so early. We returned to the pub to notify landlady and she did apologise and refunded £50 out of nearly £200. Apparently the chef lives above the pub so unsure how he/she didn't hear what was going on. If it hadn't of been for the alarm it would of been a 5 out of 5.

I am a frequent traveler and from the moment I called to book my room until the moment I left I was given the best service that I have ever experienced. The owner, Alison and her team were and are fantastic hosts. Nothing was too much to ask from them. The accommodation offers the best value for money that I have ever experienced, not only with establishments in the UK but also with all of my experiences throughout the world. The accommodation affords a good sized bedroom, lounge, shower room and a Juliette balcony at an amazing rate! Coupled with one of the best breakfasts I have eaten The Railway Inn also offers a mouth watering lunch and evening menu. The views are spectacular. We used this pub many decades ago. It was taken over just befotr the first lockdown and times have been hard. Now the young people running it have completely redecorated it in tasteful modern colours. It is both comfortable and restful. Quiet at lunchtime we were warmly welcomed into a Covid safe environment and set up with a glass of wine rack. The selection is wide and the quality good. Menu is on a blackboard with all the usual pub favourites and a long list of home made desserts. We settled for excellent sandwiches. Cheese with home made tomato chutney and turkey with cranberry. Both generously filled. A side portion of salad and delicious chunky chips was also provided. Cost, a very reasonable & 12 each though a second glass of wine and a tip raised this to £30. Excellent value. We recommend the Railway and encourage locals and passers by to encourage the young owners by visiting. Such enterprise deserves to succeed.

What a gem of a pub. Perched on the Wells Road overlooking Malvern, the Railway Inn has a warm welcoming atmosphere. I went for an evening meal to celebrate a family occasion at the Railway Inn in Malvern. Stefan, Amy and the team are very welcoming and made sure everything was fantastic for all of us. I think between us all (27 people) we probably ate most things off the menu, and unanimously all adults and children loved their meals, which were excellent. Of particular note as stand out dishes were the Vegetarian Wellington, Madras, traditional Fish and Chips and Scampi which had rave reviews from the adults. The kids loved their meals off the children's menu. Beers are a good standard, which cider, ales and lager, wine selection etc. I stayed on the Bombardier and Pedigree, which went down well. The dessert board/menu looks to have been added too lately, which has a good selection. The pub itself it split into a restaurant and bar area with pool table and darts. The kids enjoyed stretching their legs in the outdoor area, which could be seen from the table through the windows, as well as sitting out on the tables outside. I would definitely recommend giving this pub a go, as there will be something good on the menu for everyone in the family. Plus worth adding that the food and beer prices would be hard to beat.

We stopped by here after a walk on the hills for Sunday lunch. On entering we were a little concerned as there were no tables laid up and there were few signs of them actually serving food. 3 adults ordered the roast dinner and the 2 children had children's meals. First impressions were deceiving though...the food was excellent. The beef was thinly sliced, tender and tasty, all the vegetables were cooked perfectly and the cauliflower cheese was lovely and creamy. It even came with sprouts and pigs in blankets. It knocked the socks off some more expensive 'higher end' places that we've been for a Sunday roast or carvery. The guy serving behind the bar and serving the food was extremely polite and helpful. The pub feels a little sparse and not particularly atmospheric...this could be improved by maybe some curtains and laying up tables in the area away from the bar but if it's a no frills place that serves really excellent Sunday lunches then this is a hidden gem

Adequate rather than great would be a summary. Starters were good, though the black pudding has was a meal in itself. Far too large a portion. In mains, the two of our party who had steaks were disappointed by greatly overcooked offerings, nothing like medium-rare. On the other hand, gammon steaks were excellent. Presentation is basic: we're talking pub grub, not fine dining, but the pricing reflects that fairly. Desserts were uniformly good and enjoyed every bit as much as the wide range of beers. Service excellent throughout with appropriate back checks.

Six of us had a meal at this pub on a Thursday evening. The waitress was very pleasant and welcoming, the beers and wine were excellent and the service was efficient. Just one thing was disappointing - the quality and quantity of the food. All six of us thought the portion sizes were a bit mean. I had sole which was not a particularly large piece with a rather small jacket potato (which had been microwaved) and about 2 tablespoons of frozen peas. The accompanying tartare sauce was good though - tasty and plentiful. Pity the rest of the meal was not quite as good! We felt that the food could have been a little better for the prices.

This well situated pub has had more downs than ups in the past ten years, many landlords, it could have closed forever, great pity years ago it was the pub with the Italian theme run by Maurice. We have avoided completely the last three years, but were asked to join friends there for a meal. The interior is quite bland not an atmospheric welcome, it could be greatly improved by way of a few railway prints upon the wall, and table cloths upon the tables, plus glasses for wine, make it look pleasing-- why, because this pub is now hopefully back on the rails, the food is fresh, homecooked, plentiful with a menu that can be supplied by not having large choices which one knows cannot be from local fresh ingrediants. It appears Kate does the cooking, and Scott looks after the bar, not always propping it!.The Railway has themed nights which include curry, steak, & fish, as well as quiz evenings. Decent range of beers, and very good wine prices. For what is included it is very good value, and deserves support. We also attended the Valentine's Evening which the appropriate courses were given suitable names, again excellent value, Fine dining it 'aint, but then you not paying £50-60 less than half gets you a decent meal.

I used the word value as relative expression of cost and quality. Whetherspoons is cheap.....but arguably poor value. Anyhow, this isn't a Whetherspoons review. The Railway Inn is only a mile down the road from me, but not somewhere i've frequented until recently when myself, partner and 3 young children paid a visit for a quick bite to eat. I've been back several times since.Service is very 'pub' - but friendly pub. Nice...what you want; what you expect.Food is very 'pub' - not gastro-pub, but good grub pub. Big menu, loads of specials on the board.Price is very good. Kids menu is obviously limited to a few dishes, but if your wee boy/girl likes a burger chips and peas, then you're quids in and it's great value (<£5) On the whole, this is a great place if you want to have a few drinks and some decent pub food without the pretentiousness of a gastro pub or the deep fat fryer feeling of a Whetherspoons. There'll be plenty more visits for me I'm sure!

My mum was particularly impressed with the covered smoking area (if you're that way inclined) and the views from the restaurant were stunning! The pub is part of Marston's chain, and the menu is similar to other Marston's pubs, and very good it was too. Great value, attentive service and dog friendly. And by 'dog friendly' I don't mean hard floors in a noisy bar side. Amazed it wasn't busier on a Saturday night. We will be back. we called in for an early meal. the toilet carpet had not been vacuumed for a while it was covered in muck which strange because the hall carpet had.the toilet had used toilet paper on floors and general dirt and the toilet did not look hygienic. the wash basins dirty and a brown gungy slime down the wall.the tables had not been wiped.it put us off ordering a meal.the outside was no better, cigerette butts all over the floor over full ashtrays, not been cleaned at all,the pub was full of dust and general lack of cleaning.the glasses above the bar were disgustingly dirty. this seems a bit harsh . but it is lack of everyday general cleaning and insults the customer who is spending money.

Whilst the décor is a little tired the food was well cooked and very reasonably priced. Service was good too. This is just decent pub food, nothing more nothing less.

I visited this pub today as my eldest child was invited to an end of school year celebration here with a pre-booked buffet provided. My eldest was busy with friends so I after purchasing drinks I found a table for my toddler, baby and myself. Beside the party that my son was with (eating a buffet of sandwiches, pizza, chips, etc) there was one other table with customers and the rest of the parents of my friends groups (who had not ordered food yet). I browsed the menu intending to order food for my children (as by this point my baby was crying as he was hungry) and as I stood up to go to the bar to order a member of staff – I believe her to he the landlady – shouted at me snappily in front of my children and the rest of the customers that “IF YOU’RE THINKING OF ORDERING FOOD WE’RE VERY BUSY – I’VE GOT A TABLE OVER THERE [pointing] AND A TABLE OVER THERE AND THERE WILL BE A LONG WAIT!!”. The woman who spoke to me was incredibly rude and brash and pointed out the group that my son was with (which had booked several weeks before, so plenty of notice to arrange further staff if required), and one other table waiting for food. The pub – which I would estimate could seat at least 100 covers – was otherwise empty. In my opinion and speaking as an ex-landlady myself, if a pub cannot manage one table, alongside a prebooked buffet, then they either need to arrange further staff or adjust their menu. I was only going to order a plate of chicken nuggets and potato wedges to feed two small children, almost certainly a very simple, reheated frozen food arrangement, hardly Michelin star type food.It goes without saying that, having got over the initial shock, I am very disappointed and angry, frankly, to have borne the brunt of this woman’s verbal abuse. The awful treatment I received was completely unacceptable and I would comment that the pub’s current management is obviously very inexperienced, misguided and mistaken if they think that SHOUTING at customers is acceptable. Malvern is a very small place, with plenty of eating establishments so there is tough competition. Malvern is also very much a word of mouth town and I will be sharing my experience, as – I’m sure – will my friends and their families, all of whom witnessed what happened and looked on in awe.I must also point out that I speak not only as a customer, but also having managed my own pub. I completely understand how difficult and thankless the job can be, but that is absolutely no excuse for poor customer service and worse than that, making unprovoked verbal attacks on the customers! I was actually reduced to tears due to the embarrassment and also having to let down my poor children who had been looking forward to “going out” to the pub for tea – I left my eldest with friends and took my youngest two home to feed them there as I could not face staying in the establishment for even a moment longer. The woman who spoke to me ought to be utterly ashamed of herself and how she made my, and the other customers, feel. It goes without saying that we will not be visiting this establishment again whilst it is managed by the current team who feel that such terrible behaviour is acceptable.

Part of the Marstons machine. Just another version of the Bluebell or Crown. Cheap food that tastes the same way. Plenty of drinks deals. Several tables with drink marks over them, decent enough service. Wouldn't eat here if I had a choice. Pretty much McDonald's.

over the past few years the railway has been struggling along just about making a go of it,and often saw a change of persons in charge.I went again last night and feel the current couple in the hot seat have now got it all about right. The drinks are not the cheapest in hills but well satisfied with the beer i had.Good range of food that was all priced very reasonbly, loads of veggie options, curry night, and fish fridays.I would certainly reccomend the place for a break in the area, the rooms look lovely and very handy for walking the hills or visiting the showground which is close by.

Seems to have settled down under the new management. For a long time the management changed hands every twelve months or so. We had one of the Friday fish offers - fish and chips with mushy peas. This comes with a free glass of wine. It was tasty with good chips. Basic stuff but well done and good value at £8.15. We followed with sticky toffee pudding with ice cream and honeycomb sundae for £3.75.We will be coming back to explore the menu further and enjoy the convivial atmosphere.

We visited for a late lunch after a long walk on the common with our dog. We had chilli nachos to start and scampi and a burger as mains. The food came put really quickly and everything was nicely good and tasted good. Our dog was made to feel very welcome to and the owners were friendly. Would definitely go back-they do some good deals on weeknights-eg. Curry night, grill night, fish night etc.

This is an average pub, nothing special but not bad either. We go here now and again for something to eat when we fancy a quick tea out. Its decent pub food with average service. My partner had a gammon on our last visit which was nicely cooked. I had cottage pie. Worth a stop if you are passing,

Me and the wife like to try different places ,,,,we came across this pub on the hill tricky parking I might add ..went through the door and the aroma of stale cigarette smoke hit you . I must say that the decor and interior really needs a complete update as it looked very grubby ,,,never judge a book by its cover ,,,, we went to the bar and ordered our food and drink by friendly staff ...we sat at the table and had our drinks ,,,it seemed like minutes then our food came very quick ..... I must say I had scampi and the wife had the Sunday lunch ...the food was lovely and a lot of it ...the desert was very good too ... So all in all we were impressed ....would love to go back again but would like to see the pub with a refit and the ban of smoking from any door open areas ...John & Karen restaurant owners and food critics

Evening meal, very disappointing, had warm bacon and chicken salad. Meat was separate from salad and salad was very small and uninspiring consisting of a limp lettuce leave tomato and cucumber. Very poor value for money.

I was passing through Malvern with a few friends, we stopped at the railway inn for a quick bite to eat. The menu had a large variety of food to choose from! We all ordered the fish and chips which cost £7.95 which was an absolute bargain! The fish was huge and cooked perfectly! If I ever come back through this way again I shall be stopping here!

Well being a local and having seen half a dozen previously failed attempts by dubious landlords the new management have it right this time. They ar coming up to a years anniversary which is already twice as long as the last muppets and the pub and restaurant now feels like a proper 'local' and a place locals want to frequent. The food is good pub grub and outstanding value for money and the atmosphere is warm friendly and welcoming. I hope you read this and drop in and mix with us 'locals. Being local obviously I've not stayed in the accommodation but the rooms look fab too :)

This pub/restaurant has changed hands on a regular basis and prior to the current manager all have failed to make it a success. Have eaten there a number of times recently I have to say that things are on the up. The management and staff are welcoming, the atmosphere is improved and the food is very good. I hope that this time it will be a success and the hard work and effort of the new management will pay dividends. I shall certainly be making further visits.

The bleakest place I have ever eaten in, cold even at this time of the year. Food not even average service bad. Lovely location should encourage more effort.

We have been here before for something to eat and what we had was excellent, however after coming here again a few days ago we were disappointed. I had the Salmon Sizzler (previously had the chicken sizzler which was excellent which was served with fresh veg), this time I was very disappointed. The veg were very clearly frozen veg (carrots, peppers onions etc) baby corn was supposed to be included but I had 1 small piece. It was supposed to be spicy but wasnt. My partner had scampi which was overcooked. It was edible but just not as good as our previous visit.Having said that, the staff have improved, the young girl behind the bar was very pleasant, unlike our previous visit where the 2 girls, although pleasant, were very childish messing about behind the bar. If the food was to improve I would consider going again. The saying 'you only get what you pay for' doesnt fit in this circumstances. There is another Marstons in the Malvern Link area which is cheaper and to be fair a lot better.

The whole team went above and beyond to deliver a great night for my 50th birthday bash. The dedication and attention to detail was 10/10 throughout the whole night. The food was exceptional and to execute 3 courses for 37 guests was just amazing. Special thanks to the whole team – bar staff & chefs and Nibs & Laura to make it a memorable night!

Spot on service and food! We visited here on a Wednesday evening, the restaurant was busy and despite this, we had excellent service. The food was brilliant, I had the Dragon Pie and it was quite honestly the best pie I have eaten in a long time.
