We called in on the off chance for Sunday lunch without a prior booking. Despite the fact that they were fully booked we were offered a table which was perfectly acceptable. We were made extremely welcome with our dog and had the most wonderful Sunday lunch. We both chose the slow cooked rib of beef which was delicious and served with a very generous portion of fresh veg , roast potatoes and crispy Yorkshire pudding! Highly recommend!!!

We have had meals at The Crown on a number of occasions over the last year or so and have never been disappointed. The food and service have always been faultless. A major bonus for us is that our dog is always made most welcome with biscuits and water available as well as a dog blanket if needed. The staff have always been efficient, very friendly and pleasant. Manu served us last Saturday and we were very impressed.

Worst meal we ever had . Out of 4 meals only one was edible and that was the burger. I had pie and mash the others had a carvery. All of our food was cold. Sent it back (so they must have put it in the microwave) but it was still cold. The mash did not look appetizing at all. Sent it back did not want anything else but they did do us a ploughman's to share ( obs didn't need to be cooked) and that was as nice as it got. Eventually after speaking with the manager they did not charge us. It's terrible service and will not be going back. Does not deserve even one star

Have never been before, but passed it a lot and always looked busy, so thought we’d try it. Firstly, over £12 for a glass of wine and a Diet Coke was extortionate. Sat in the beer garden. What a mess. The tables and chairs are disgusting. Half the paint is missing, what’s left is old and flaky. The table and chair legs were covered in green algae. Tables needed wiping, tipped over plant pots, soil in the tables. Did not want to sit anywhere. Drank our drinks and left.

The pub welcomes dogs and we had our small spaniel lying quietly on the floor. our server said she had a dog allergy , she did not come near us, and served our meals and drinks to an empty table asking us to collect them! There were other servers who were reportedly busy. I would have preferred to have waited until a server without a dog allergy was free, and have our meals brought to the table where we were seated. The server with the dog allergy should not be asked to serve people with dogs as it’s a health issue.

Disappointing visit this morning for breakfast. We were the first to arrive for breakfast at 10 am. We had to wait 45 minutes for our food to arrive. It seemed that they didn't start cooking breakfast until more tables had been taken because the food was brought out for each table literally one immediately after the other. There was no apology for the delay. The lady in charge noticed that my husband was missing the mushrooms when she delivered his plate which she sorted. My son commented during the meal that his portion was rather small, however it wasn't until we got home and looked at the menu online that we realised that his Chef & Brewer Benedict was missing 1 of the 2 eggs, mushrooms and spinach. No wonder it looked small, half of it was missing! The only saving grace was that we paid with Tesco Clubcard Vouchers. I don't think we'll be visiting again. Shame because the actual pub is lovely but the service does not match it.

Went here for Sunday Lunch. Although we had not booked, there were plenty of tables free when we walked in, at the bar and elsewhere. However, when we asked for a table we were told the place was full ad we could not be catered for. I am all for businesses making choices about who to cater for but we would not have been treated like this abroad where we have been to many eateries where they just fit you in for food. Only two staff on during this Friday lunch hour. Lengthy wait for drinks order to be taken and VERY lengthy wait for table to the cleared and offer of coffees. The older female staff member vociferously complained about the short staffing to all and sundry, very loudly. When politely asked for the table to be cleared, responded very aggressively and loudly about the volume of work she had and the failures of management to staff the day appropriately. My sandwich was mediocre at best but a friend’s pie looked and tasted delicious. Staff training is needed to ensure appropriate behaviour of staff in front of guests.

We went for lunch on a Sunday, the starters came out they were pleasant, the Korean chicken strips were really tasty. 4 out of 6 of us ordered a roast and one had a chicken pie. It is not an understatement to say most of the meals were inedible. The beef was so chewy, the turkey and pork were so dry. The roast potatoes and parsnips were obviously cooked and reheated several times. The cauliflower flower cheese was burnt with no cheese. The mash potato with the pie took me back to the 80’s with a ‘Smash’ taste. My son had the kids chicken stripes for main and they tasted of really old oil and were so dry as were his chips so remained uneaten. When the waitress cleared our plates she asked if everything was ok, I’m honestly not normally one to say anything but I said ‘ no it really wasn’t very nice’ she looked at me and I said actually some of it was dreadful. She didn’t say a word and from that moment onwards we were ignored by all of the waiting staff. That is was has really made me not want to ever eat here again.

I have to say I was terribly disappointed by the Christmas lunch option here, about £27 for two courses and although the Christmas pudding was shop bought and not bad, the main course, in my opinion was dreadful. I did tell the lovely lady looking after our table know, she did bring replacement potatoes ( which actually weren’t any better) and I did tell the manger too who appreciated the feedback. However, why the plates left the kitchen in the first place is beyond my comprehension, as, in my humble opinion, no chef should be happy to let this standard of food go out. Hopefully the manager has addressed the issue now and I wish the pub better reviews and luck in 2024. The front of house staff are lovely and I feel are being let down by the kitchen.

The pub/restaurant is in a nice peaceful village location, it has lots of free parking and is part of the Chef and Brewer chain of pubs. We came here to use up some tesco vouchers but it's not a place that we would visit ordinarily due to there being better value for money places available to eat and drink where the food is considerably nicer and home made. The place inside hasn't changed a great deal In the years that Chef And Brewer have taken it on, it would now benefit from a refurb as some of the furniture is starting to show its age. The food is "ok" here, it is typical chain food, plenty of choice and all of it is fair enough, just nothing special. On this visit we were quite surprised when we requested a pint of coke with no ice, to then be given a considerably short measure of coke. (see photo). We were only advised once we had received our drink that they do not offer a pint of coke but instead offer "large" but we were not advised of this when ordering so it was too late. We were also advised that due to us not having ice in the drink they fill it short taking into account the amount of ice we'd have received if requesting ice! Quite bizarre in our opinion. Why do I need ice, the coke comes ice cold out of the taps. I dine out at least 2-3 times a week and have NEVER been to a pub/restaurant in my life where they penalise you for not having ice in your drink, it is penny pinching of the most extreme nature. I had approached the General Manager of The Crown for his/her comments after visiting but that has been well over a month now and still no reply so they have had long enough to reply to me, I take it that they do not wish to discuss customer problems arising from a visit. I'm fairly sure the guest relations team will make some kind of excuse up in reply to this but it will not be of any significance now.

Christmas meal was lovely but there were a few things which could be improved. I had prawn starter. They were in shells. A finger bowl or wet wipe would have been appreciated to clean fingers. We were not offered cranberry sauce for our turkey. We had ordered two extras which did not come. We asked for the one and got it but forgot we had ordered the other so did not ask for it but noticed we were charged on the bill so had to ask for it to be taken off the bill. We asked for a jug of water to go with the meal which we did not get. These are just small niggles which did not spoil the overall experience and the meal was excellent value overall. Car park entrance needs to be lit as was hard to spot when arriving and there needs to be more lighting in the car park.

The downside was the food sadly. It was ok but I paid £20.99 for my meal - festive pie, some potatoes and veg, and it was nothing special, very average. I’d have paid £10.99 not £20.99! Absolutely ridiculous amount of money for the meal it was. Such a shame as the pub itself is lovely but who can afford that for an average pub meal. I’d go back for a drink but not for food.

This was the nicest Christmas dinner I've ever had in the run up to Christmas. The roast potatoes were crispy, the turkey succulent and even the pigs in blankets had good quality sausages. This was miles apart from the usual mass produced offering. We will definitely return. Their gluten free options were also fantastic.

Excellent meal, 1st time we've been there but will go again. My only comment was that the lights to the carpark were not on, so it was difficult to find the entrance, having not been before. Otherwise everything great.

My friend and I went for a Christmas meal and were really impressed. Their roast Christmas dinner was incredible. It was the nicest Christmas roast I've ever tasted. All of the components were excellent quality, everything was cooked to perfection. If you have dietary requirements I'd would recommend here too. The atmosphere and service were both great too! We will definitely be returning.

Excellent place for a lovely bacon sandwich and a cup of tea at a very reasonable price. Lovely staff and best setting in Upton...10/10

The whole team went above and beyond to deliver a great night for my 50th birthday bash. The dedication and attention to detail was 10/10 throughout the whole night. The food was exceptional and to execute 3 courses for 37 guests was just amazing. Special thanks to the whole team – bar staff & chefs and Nibs & Laura to make it a memorable night!

Spot on service and food! We visited here on a Wednesday evening, the restaurant was busy and despite this, we had excellent service. The food was brilliant, I had the Dragon Pie and it was quite honestly the best pie I have eaten in a long time.

After living in the area for years we finally visited the Den. Tea and a panini was ordered by both of use. We were warned of a wait, but it didn't take too long. Good quality ingredients and tasty. Well worth a visit
