Very friendly and helpful staff, good quality and good value food. They cater very well for special dietary requirements. Pleasant atmosphere.

We visited here on Saturday and as a coeliac, I have to eat a strict gluten free diet. We rang ahead to check the menu, and the staff were very knowledgeable. There were a few gluten free options, which made it difficult to choose. The waitress checked if I had an allergy before ordering and informed me that they have a dedicated gf fryer. I ordered a gf chicken nacho burger and fries and it was lovely. I would highly recommend this place, the staff were all really helpful and polite.

We what out for tea on Thursday 15th Feb had the valentines menu it was lovely 2 steaks cooked to perfection and we had a sweet to share 😋 and 2 coffee staff lovely as always 😊 just wish i could go every day thanks for a lovely evening 😊

A wonderful return visit to the Railway Inn today for lunch with residents from West Hallam Care Home. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who held doors open for wheelchairs, moved tables for easy access when leaving. Food was outstanding and accommodated my gluten free diet perfectly. Portions were very generous and all the residents were delighted with their fish and chips. Thanks to a very special family for looking after us, you will always be part of the West Hallam Family.

Amazing service and staff. Made to feel warm and welcome immediately. Two of our party weren’t well enough to join us, but the venue offered to box up their three course dinners to take away at the end of our slot. So kind. Each of our courses was very fresh, large portions of good quality food. And great value for money. Will definitely return. The ONLY slight negative was the roast potatoes, which were skin on and new potatoes. But couldn’t fault anything else at all x

We booked for a family Christmas meal as a group of 19 plus two dogs. It was a great experience for all. Delicious food, great portions and friendly, helpful staff. Very happy to recommend the Railway and return with family again in the future

We visited on 15th December having been to The Railway many times over the years. The setting is nice, the pub is comfortable and nicely decorated and there is plenty of space. The staff are good and attentive. However, what on earth has gone wrong with this year’s Festive Menu! We had traditional turkey dinner. It came with mash, new potatoes (that were supposed to be roasted) and one single veg - sprouts!!! If the same meal is taken on a Sunday - for the same price, then all the rest of the missing veg makes an appearance. To serve a turkey dinner without a selection of veg is just wrong and there’s no excuse. A few peas and carrots and proper roast potatoes do not cost much and should be served as a part of the meal. In conclusion - if you want a festive meal, then go on a Sunday or go elsewhere. There are plenty of places offering a better meal at comparable prices. We won’t be returning for a while until the pub has a rethink with its menu. Disappointing.

Nice enough venue, and helpful pleasant service, but let down on this occasion by the food (previous visit was excellent). We had to wait 30+ minutes for our food. Cauliflower cheese was burnt, cabbage was dry and awful, the sausage -meat was dry. It was redeemed by the rest of the meal, which was fine. It was not bad enough to complain, but disappointing nevertheless.

Xmas get together with friends. You always want a get together to go well; this was great. We all chose the festive menu. The orders were Beef, Turkey and Sea Bass. All cooked to perfection and so flavoursome. Our desserts matched up to the fabulous quality and flavour. Choices Gingerbread cheesecake, Railway tiramasu and chocolate ice cream and panna cotta with Spiced Plum Compote. A really great start to the season and celebrations with friends. Great friendly staff and so attractively decorated

Having visited this establishment a number of times over quite a few years now ,we have seen lots of changes ,some good ,some bad ,however even though today's overall meal was as good as usual ,we were shocked that when we asked for more gravy(which is almost always included in the cost of the meal) we were told that it would be at an additional cost ....... the waitress who's service was great, managed to get us another small gravy at no extra cost but really ?? ! I hope this becomes an inclusive part of any meal served in future Thank you

Called in on Sunday around 1.30 with family and to their credit we was given the last table. There was lots of available tables but a shortage of Yorkshire puddings! Slightly baffled as to why they couldn’t make more of homemade anyway.. we all ordered a roast beef dinner. Not the best to be honest. The beef was curled up each side with a large ring of fat round the edge. The mash and veg was ok. Roast potatoes not so good. Service was good .

I lunch with a group of friends around Derbyshire every month but the last few occasions have been disappointing so the Railway was a welcome change.I chose it because it has a good selection of vegetarian options but all our meals were excellent - fish, veggie, and meat. They were served at the same time (which doesn’t always happen), by efficient and friendly staff. We were offered pudding and coffee but didn’t feel rushed. We were particularly impressed to be consulted about food allergies and told that the kitchen could manage that. The place is clean, simply but attractively decorated. The car park is large and The Railway is easy to find. It’s unusual for us to return but we will to The Railway - soon!

Went with my wife for Wednesday lunch this week and could not fault the experience.There has been a change of management since we last visited. The staff were most attentive and welcoming. For a midweek lunch time there were plenty of customers and the atmosphere was relaxing with no over powering music. The meals were a step up from the normal "pub grub' produced by someone who knows how to cook. Great value for the quality provided. We are certain to return.

The Railway Inn hosted my 70th birthday dinner with 10 family members. It could not have been better. The food was excellent as was the service. The table was decorated and everything was considered.

Visited today for Sunday lunch and was most impressed. Nice cut of beef and freshly cooked veg and yorkshire pudding. Nothing overcooked, which is a common failing with venues offering Sunday lunches. Nice selection of root vegetables, cabbage and kale which were all very tasty. Good sized portion and very reasonably priced. Well trained and friendly staff.Simply nothing to fault and will visit again.Recommended.

We decided to pop in here for dinner on a whim as we were passing. The staff were fantastic, very warm and welcoming and it felt like they really enjoyed working there. It was also notable that every staff member we encountered asked how we were. Service was very speedy for both drinks and food. The food was incredible and far surpassed expectations. It was easy to tell that the ingredients were sourced locally from quality suppliers. In fact I enjoyed the black pudding so much I asked where it was sourced so that I could pick some up. The chef did a fantastic job with all of our meals and my wife’s allergies were well catered for. My daughter had the kids pasta and it was great to see that it was made fresh with nice ingredients rather than the usual mass produced greasy rubbish you find in chain pubs. It definitely received my daughter’s seal of approval also as she saw it off in short order. I also like that dogs are welcomed, and the family vibe shone through. We shall definitely be returning and will bring friends.

This place has become one of my favourite pit stops whilst on route home from the peak district, one of the few pubs in the Derbyshire dales with ample parking.The food is home made comfort pub grub perfect for refuelling.This pub is also Dog friendly if they are well behaved, the staff are very friendly especially towards dogs bringing them treats and some water. Simple but effective

Ove the years this pub has had several changes of hand but seems to have gone downhill since the days of the decent carvery. It's a few years since we've last been and the decor hasn't changed, although its pleasant. The food is typical pub food - nothing special. I had a fishfinger sandwich with onion rings. My husband had pie and mash. The fish fingers were in fact fish goujons and were very greasy, served in a burger bun not a sandwich, which was sparsely spread with a very tasteless tartare sauce. The onion rings were also very greasy. My husband's pie was OK but obviously not homemade. The mash he said was OK, but didn't look to me like it had seen potatoes for a while, and the vegetables that came with it had not been drained, so when he tipped them out he got water all over the plate. That evening I felt ill and can only assume something within the meal didn't agree with me. Service was quick - it wasn't busy. There's plenty of parking. I won't be going back and I wouldn't recommend it.

Nice looking interior. Friendly staff. Menu looked promising. Lunches very disappointing. Homity Pie was just creamy potatoes with a mashed potato top served with a side of mash! Fish finger sandwich was two huge slabs of bread, goujons were all batter and no fish with a tiny scraping of tartare sauce. Caesar Salad was tiny with no croutons or anchovies and a minute bit of sauce. We asked for more sauce and were charged extra for a very small amount. Roast beef sandwich was nice and chips very good. Service was good, toilets modern and clean, loads of parking.

Found this gem of a pub/restaurant on the way back from visiting Criche Tramway Museum. Great welcome and service, fantastic food, our only wish is that this place was closer to home...we'd visit far more often. Well done all! Great place.
