Railway Inn in Wiltshire

New ownership has made the pub more of a family friendly feel, needs updating on the whole but this is apparently planned starting very soon so, looking forward to it!!

We were looking for somewhere to eat mid afternoon and found this little pub, we’re not from the area and food was lovely, good prices and tasty. Thanks

Happily took a booking for large family. Food was really lovely and big menu to choose from. Sunday lunch was amazing. Brilliant value for money. Staff were friendly and happy to help. Lovely friendly atmosphere. Will definitely be returning.

We stayed here for our first night camping in our campervan. The food was good, the pub was quiet albeit for a few local however where this pub came into its own was the staff. They were all super friendly, lovely to talk too and accomodating. We were on of their first campervan customers and felt very welcome. Carpark is a good size and is very quiet which was nice to get some sleep. My only thing I would mention is that the only toilets are inside and they are not accessible post 11pm and they reopened at 12 midday the next day. The landlady though did say that she would open the doors around 9:30/10ish in the morning and move to those hours when the weather improves for the summer. A consideration perhaps for those who campers do not have loos (Like ours). Other than that, we felt welcome and hosted and will be returning again. Thanks for having us!

Brilliant pub food amazing and well ran .so glad its back how it should be .

Took my husband for a quick birthday lunch, wow this place is a hidden gem, the food was excellent, tasty and piping hot, would wholeheartedly recommend. We will be going back very soon. Go on give it a try, places like this need to be supported or we will lose them.

Fantastic local pub, well worth a visit. I stopped here for lunch whilst waiting for a train at nearby Westbury station and was very pleasantly surprised. It was immediately welcoming with personable service and a cosy atmosphere on a cold day. Food was fresh, good value and served quickly. A really lovely local business and a great find

Train was delayed as always. They wouldn't let me charge my phone at the station so I made my way to The Railway Inn. The owner is extremely friendly and I especially enjoyed Tony's energy around the bar. I'm sure I'll be back the next time my train is inevitably delayed. Thank you ! 5 stars.

Just had the most delicious fish and chips, and apple cider crumble pie and custard. 100% recommend this place.

Beautiful setting, excellent service, fantastic food.

Stopped unexpectedly at The Railway Inn as we were heading home. Decided to have a roast lunch and we were not disappointed. Thoroughly enjoyed the food and the friendly atmosphere. Will definitely be heading back to this local pub. As we had the Sunday roast, not able to answer the question below.

I received a warm welcome from Colin and his team and the locals were just as friendly. The food was good honest pub grub, fresh and tasty. I really enjoyed my afternoon/evening and I’ll be back. I can’t say more than that. Thank you.

We visted today and are only in the area to visit longleat tomorrow and after a long drive to the area we wanted some classic english fayre/pub classics and this place on google, menu looked good, with a good variety and prices where brilliant too. A warm greeting by what I presume is the landlord with some classic dad jokes lol. Had to wait for the chef to come of her break which we didn’t mind, we had a game of pool and would’ve played darts had we bought ours with us lol. the place is very clean and tidy inside and out. The menu has a great choice of items and at fantastic prices aswell. Service and food was great, arrived in good time and piping hot, portion sizes were spot on too and we all cleared our plates including my 5yo and thats rare. Not a single complaint from our party of 5. We were only table in there eating and none of us can understand why, hopefully just a one of as i think it deserves to be busy

Am really impressed with The Railway Inn since the new people took over in March. Have dined there half a dozen times now with friends and family. The staff are friendly and helpful, the place is clean, food is great & good value for money also. Well done 👏

Lovely little pub first went here around sixty years ago so great to return last Sunday scampi just loved it Had to stay outside last visit with a small orange juice with my brother been train spotting on westbury station

We booked for Sunday lunch but our visit was ruined by a family with screaming, out of control toddler children running up and down. We finished the meal early due to this and skipped dessert. The quality of food was good, as was the service, but apart from that, a complete nightmare!

Call in for lunch because my nephew just moved into the area and was looking for a local. Ordered food with small adjustments like no peppers on the salad and can we swap mash for chips? 2 out of 3 meals arrived with a wait for the 3 which only come when the waitress asked was everything okay!! No we are a meal missing the salad with peppers oops she said I'll get it now. When the bill come we were charged for the chips even though we did ask the waitress if it was possible to swap with chips if not just leave it has mash. so paid the bill and pointed out about the chips and the barperson said pay the full amount and I'll give you the money for the chips "don't want you to be dissatisfied". Sad because it was dog friendly and close to his new home.

Really pleasant pub, beautiful hanging baskets, good food and service, plenty of car parking, clean toilets good selection of food, would recommend

So glad we discovered The Railway Inn. Had a fantastic roast Sunday lunch,beautifully cooked and with the best Yorkshire pudding ever. We were made very welcome by Colin and Karen, and there was a lovely, friendly atmosphere. The pub is super dog friendly...our three even had their own tasters brought out from the kitchen! Definitely worth trying out if you're in the area. Thank you for a great experience.

Popped in for a couple of pints whilst in the area between trains back in April. Staff friendly & attentive, a nice relaxed & friendly atmosphere. If back in the area would certainly go revisit. Very nice pint of Amstel with dash of lime, just what was required on a warm day.

Myself and a pal popped in here for a cheeky pint(s) and some food after a day out. We were greeted by their friendly landlord who quickly served us our drinks, we were made very welcome and felt very at ease. The decor is very inviting and the atmosphere was great with people sat chatting, eating all in different places. Food menu is good and well priced, if you're in the area this place is a must! We'll be back very soon. Keep it up guys. 👍

Has the prospects to be nice but just failed at every hurdle. Menu looked great, but the food was plain awful when it arrived, didn't resemble the menu or pictures, was all deep fried frozen rubbish that might as well have been from Iceland, but at a premium price. Staff while friendly didn't seem suited to the role, not familiar with the menu, dropped a tray of drinks, then a plate of sauces, then knocked the sidedish off one plate. She really was trying hard, but just missing the mark. The place was almost empty and I can see why. Edit in response to manager: my review is correct and the correct establishment, we visited on Saturday 4th May.

Just deleted my review from last year. What a difference in last month...great food. Very clean and they are still doing work on the pub. Great to now have a local friendly pub in my area. Will now be using on regular basis and I can now take any visitors I have round for a meal and a few drinks. This is product of good management 😁

I'm giving a review as I've just taken over The Railway inn We will be launching our new menu from Good Friday.l12 till 8pm,Great deals on drinks especially Monday to Wednesday £3 on Fosters and Amstel lagers Also Sunday lunch from 12 till 6pm we are also looking into advertising the train times live in the pub please join us even if just for coffee and cake.

No warning of no food. Coffee was instant. This was midday. We would have stayed for a proper drink later, but gave it a miss. To be fair I think they have just opened, so giving three rather than two. I want pubs to stay open, but it needs to be a bit more inviting.

Probably the best boozer in BA13. I don't live in Westbury anymore but will have to pop in the next time that I'm about.

Visited this pub (twice) to kill some time while GWR were incapable of running trains on time. It's roughly a four minute walk from the station and easy to find. The beer is cold, and the staff and locals were all fab'. Can't comment on the food as we didn't have any but I can thoroughly recommend everything else.....

What an awful experience for our Christmas Day meal at the Railway Inn. The waiting staff were amazing but I don’t know how they put up with it. The owner is very rude will not be going in there again, 45 min wait for the starters and 35 mins for main then another wait for dessert and by then didn’t want it. Got there at 1:30pm and didn’t get out till 4pm. The waitress and her family did it voluntary and girl behind bar both great but were crying and felt so sorry for them. The best bit was meeting some lovely people on the other tables. Do not waste your money here.

34 of us just had our Xmas lunch there and it was very disappointing. Waited 2 hours for the food to arrive and then found it all but inedible - dried out and cold !!! The staff did their best but as only two plates at a time came out of the kitchen, it took forever to serve everyone. If they're not geared up to do large groups then perhaps they shouldn't take that kind of booking ?

I didn't have food . The venue and the atmosphere was very cozy . Its quite clearly where the locals hang out , but didn't feel awkward not being a local. The cocktail menu wasn't very large , but fairly priced especially with the happy hour . And they tasted amazing!!!

Very cosy local pub with bar and kitchen for food and drink. TV for sports located near the bar, dart board and pool table located just further down.

My daughter lives up the road from the pub and overall its a good locals pub. Only disappointment is coke was nearly a tenner for 2 pints and beer was cheaper, that definitely needs sorting out and I was once a landlord myself. Plenty of games like pool, darts and sky sports are big pluses and the locals were all friendly too.

Stopped here with the boys on are way to watch fotty, at Westbury football ground... Real nice pub didn't order food, but the staff put a load of fresh pizza on the bar to help ourselves... spot on

Terrible booked 20 guests for dinner everyone turned up to be told not serving dinner tonight!! Not even a call joke

Booked a meal for 20 people for a leaving do. All fine but then arrived at the pub to be told kitchen was closed. No apology and no contact to let us know prior to arriving. We were left with 9 hungry children to feed. Terrible service!

Really lovely welcome every member off staff have a smiley face. We have travelled from Redditch in Midlands so felt very welcomed and the food was delicious

Lovely pub good mix of people. Right by the Rail Station. Big enough to avoid any local idiots at the bar that you find in every pub. Good menu and facilities for children at the back, bouncy castle and all that jazz.

Took the kids and the Mrs for a meal, wasn't disappointed, the food was phenomenal, the staff where amazing, very friendly and accommodating to the whole family... Thank you guys will defo be back again.

MOTHERS DAY LUNCH-What a fantastic lunch today. The server Lauren was a complete delight. Such a lovely, efficient, competent & friendly person who put us immediately at ease. Thank you Lauren for everything! The Sunday roasts were huge & delicious & we ate everything! Plus we ordered gorgeous puddings & the whole experience was just so brilliant. The prices are very reasonable & therefore this pub food & service comes highly recommended!

Booked a table for 7, when we arrived they didn’t know about our booking. Tables hastily arranged we sat down. Went to bar to order our food even though it’s supposed to be table service. Then waited 2 hours and 10 minutes to get our main courses. Food was ok, but overcooked and Luke warm. Won’t be going there again for food.

Me and a collegue always come in for a pint and a game of pool usually every Thursday or what not. Lovely staff nice pool table. Polite young gent serves us most times. Much love not a massive drinker here as not my hometown and difficult but always been happy to accommodate us

Perfectly located for those moments when you get stranded after your train arrives and then your taxi takes 3 hours to show up. The patrons were so friendly!! I'll never forget it.

Popped into the pub hoping to order lunch was told no you can't have any food as you haven't booked. No wonder there was hardly anyone in there with that attitude.

Over from Northern Ireland for a few days and unaware of the local area. I arrived at the railway inn after a tiresome journey with more questions than answers. The staff were very pleasant and willing to help me in my information gathering and problem solving endeavours. The Guinness is also top tier! 10/10. For once, a happy Ulsterman! Great place to watch football, friendly staff and locals. We be back next time I'm in the area.

Came here because they advertised everywhere that they show live sports, sky and bt, we were looking for pub to watch the F1 in and thought this would be perfect but we were very wrong. We asked at the bar if they would be able to show it and were told they didn't know, then told we could put it on if we wanted and then told that wasn't possible they would need to be the ones to do it. Very confusing! They didn't put it on and we had to abandon our drinks to go elsewhere. If you're looking for somewhere comfy, with good drinks to watch sports go to The Black Horse!!! The staff are incredibly friendly, the chairs comfy and they actually will show the sports they advertise!!

A complete dive I would never go back there, full of to many jumped up testosterone wannabes with attitude, even asked a member of staff where are the toilets and the reply was male or female pmsl. OK what with the way things are in this confused world I kinda get it but really... Just avoid is my opinion

I expect fine enough for locals. Staff are friendly. Everything needs a good wipe down, including the menus. Sticky table tops. Replace teaspoons that are stained. Drinks were expensive. Food was fine.

An excellent little pub, perfect for killing time while you wait for a train, with excellent food, lovely bar staff, and a train tracking screen so you don't miss you train.

We hired The Railway Inn recently refurbished function room/restaurant and everything was superb. Katie and her team went above and beyond to make our evening amazing. Great service, friendly team and amazing value. - Thank you ❤️😀

I enjoyed my brief visit between trains. Nice to eat some decent food with a pint instead of a snack from the station kiosk place. It even has a departure board above the bar and seeing as its just a few minutes walk from the station, that's a good move.

It's clearly early days in the reopening and renovations, as the place is slightly run down currently. A quick stop and bite to eat with the kids. The beer garden was again slightly run down. Sadly the bouncy castle for the kids wasn't up the day we came. Food and drinks were reasonable priced, some items weren't available but that didn't pose much of an issue. The burger and chips I had were surprisingly good. However, the tray there were served on was filthy dirty. As seen in the pictures. The kids chicken nuggets and fish fingers were also good, however, the kids pizza ordered was not really up to much. It was like them 1.50 micro pizzas - but oven cooked. Sadly my child didn't enjoy it so left it. Not a prime destination currently, but the friendly staff warrant a return visit after completion of updating to judge it fairly. A place to watch... Could go either way!

Took kids for a game of pool and some food. A guy smoking inside at game machine. Staff serving to lads deffo under age. Selling vapes from the counter to them. The food wasn't great finished up and left with out desert. Definitely gone down hill from change of ownership I'll never go back or recommend.

Been in a few times for food over the last couple of weeks and every time it's been really good.

Friendly and welcoming staff. We've been in a couple times since the landlord changed hands last November. Good to see them getting the pub back to a busy atmosphere again. Always clean and tidy in there. Toilets could do with a refurbishment, but that's probably down to the brewery to put their hand into those deep pockets and sort out properly. We're in the 2022, not really acceptable to have toilets below par these days. Rest of the pub is well kept though. Nice little beer garden for those summer sunny afternoons / evenings, can't wait.

Went on a return.visit on.Tuesday thefirst time the steak was one of the best ever had this time was the worst it came very dried up no taste I.should have complained before leaving but the staff and management was so good I let it go over my head it was served in a lovely matching china and the place so clean you could have eaten your food in the toilet so clean so thats think that this was just a slip up so dont spoil A great pub I want to come back thank you Mr Wright.the man with the red hat

I go to university in Plymouth but am originally from Portsmouth so when I travel home I sometimes have to change my train at Westbury. I usually have a 1-2 hour wait for my second train which sounds awful, but thanks to this pub it's my favourite part of my journey. Whenever I've got a long wait for my second train I always pop in for a pint or 2 and the pub is always warm and welcoming and the drinks always taste 10x better than they do in pubs in either Plymouth or Portsmouth. They call it the pub to wait and in all honesty I wish I had a longer wait ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Amazing customer service, really friendly atmosphere! Good was so yummy, highly recommend the hunters chicken 🐔! Kid friendly aswell, with a little play area in the garden, and great prices! Highly recommend! PS - The chef (Cherise) makes great chips!
