Dog and Partridge Inn in Wiltshire

Can’t say AMAZING enough! Went for Sunday lunch carvery £13.50 per adults and £7.00 for kids. Meat was superb: beef was rare/medium (not overheated and dry like usual cavery); pork soft; vegs all crisp. Staff just lovely. Wish more people in Calne would go - you are missing a treat!

we stayed here for 2 nights to work and attend a party. the room was light and nicely decorated, they provide a kettle, some cups, tea, coffee, sugar and milk, the desk was perfect for working and the bed very comfortable! the bathroom smelt of stale water a little and the wifi was not strong enough to run our laptops, I believe this is due to the wifi extenders they are using, they are not the best and would recommend upgrading to deco extenders, this is the only reason we have knocked it down a star. however we would stay here again.=

stayed in room 1. No breakfast option when staying but recommended a decent cafe down the road. Wifi was intimitent, 20mb/s to 0 meaning Youtube/gaming wasnt possible. Nice pint of guiness

Decent little boozer. Nice bit of grub for lunchtime. Good service for a family with children, friendly and accommodating.

Really enjoyed the stay here. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Lovely surroundings with a massive garden. Nice roomy car park. Access to the rooms is excellent. Rooms a good size. All in all a good place to stay. I will be going back.

We stayed here for 2 nights as well as spent a couple evenings in the Pub. Definitely has a much better name and appearance now than what comes up on the GPS. The front bar is exactly as you expect village pubs, great atmosphere. We were here on a quiet night an England football night, both great. We did not eat but they do a limited restaurant menu and breakfast buffet on Saturday and Sunday for £10 Rooms out back were nice and comfortable and reasonably priced for what we needed.

Gravelled carpark. Large pub just off the island/ring road. Accommodation is a separate block at the back of the pub. Very comfortable room with large bed and tea making facilities. Dinner is served from 6 pm until 8 pm. The menu has no starters and doesn't state vegetarian meals, but they do have some you just need to ask. The surroundings are very nice and the staff friendly. Would certainly return.

The rooms are disgustingly dirty and run down. The only thing that is invested here is a good photo shop program...

Food was nice but a very limited choice of only 3 main courses on a Saturday night. Seemingly no vegan options. Also a long wait taking nearly an hour in a nearly empty house.

The carvery was poor. The food was cold, and what was marked as a “vegetarian alternative” clearly wasn’t, as the potatoes and the Yorkshire puddings were CLEARLY cooked in some kind of animal fat. Very unhappy. The servers were all lovely. This has nothing to do with the majority of the staff, however the owners and cooks should be ashamed.

Worst cavery ever, it was all cold, I don't know what the roast potatoes were cooked in but they were vile, it was just so bad . Although staff were really nice and we got a refund. Would only ever go there for a drink.

A great little pub on the outskirts of Calne, Wiltshire. It has a new name (used to be The Bug & Spider) and is now under new management. They have aspirations to put on live music also.

Restaurant was closed for our stay. Very nice rooms and friendly staff.

Lovely room, hot shower but no brekky Mon- Fri at the moment because new mangement setting in.

April 2024: thought we'd give place another try. Disappointing to say the least. Bar populated by gobby, sweary young men, food took 45 minutes to be served (we were the only diners), plates of the same meal varied in size. Fondant Potato tasted like packet mash, but the small portion of kale that came with the chicken was nicely cooked. Food was ok, not awful, not great, just ok and for what it was, my.personal opinion is that it was on the pricier side. Same scenario as last time with 3 staff chatting behind the bar as we waited to order drinks. Operating the till seems to be a 2 person job. Staff don't acknowledge or greet customers. Perhaps you have to be a regular to get a "thanks, bye!" as you head off. I was really hoping that this venue would have improved. It hasn't. A real shame as with all the new houses nearby, I'm sure I'm not the only person locally who would like to be able to pop into my local pub for a pleasant time, with good service and food. Nov 2023: Receny under new management, this venue has a new name, been refurbished and has a new menu. Am sure the teething issues we experienced will soon get ironed out; multiple staff behind the bar but only 1 serving, the rest chatting whilst customers waited, restaurant area was rather chilly, main course of cod was pricey for what was delivered, small portion of chilled desert including ice cream served on a hot plate. Underwhelming dinner, but we'll definitely be back to try other options and am sure we'll see improvements.

If you are a dog owner this is a must stay. The owners are the most accommodating people I met. Dogs were happy, we were happy.

Amazing Roast dinner, definitely recommend!

The carvery was lovely. No vegetarian option, but paid child’s rate for a roast without meat, which was great. The puddings were not great, the Eton mess was on a pastry base with no meringue at all. When mentioning this to staff, the waitress mentioned it was an Eton mess tart (which it never mentioned on the menu) and she hadnt tried it so couldn’t comment on the lack of meringue. Overall a nice experience but room for improvement.

Very disappointing. The carvery turkey was like reconstituted sausage meat and was rubbery. The potatoes were horrific! Over boiled prior to roasting so collapsed into greasy unpalatable mash. I had the last 3 broccoli florets and asked the lady serving if there was any more. She was quite curt in telling me it would be 8 minutes before any more would arrive and to give her a chance! The rest of our party were offered only carrots and peas. No cabbage. No beans. Gravy had an almost bitter tone to it and was quite unpleasant. Didn't finish my meal and wouldn't go there again.

Came in for the Sunday Carvery for the first time today. I walked in on my own, there were 3 ladies at the bar but they all ignored me and dispersed without saying a word. One lady came back saying she would be with me in a sec. I had booked a table for 5 (3 adults 2 children) So found it a bit strange paying before your get your food. We had 1 vegetarian. There was no Carvery equivalent for the vegetarian, which was a bit mean paying the same as the Carvery price for a plate of vegetables !! So had to order from the Kids menu, Pasta. We waited ages for both the kids meal and the veggie meal, and when they did arrive they were cold, both the nuggets and the fish fingers....what took so long We couldn't work it out as we were the only ones there with children and so there shouldn't have been an extremely long wait as we (the meat eaters) didn't go up till theirs arrived. The Lamb and the Pork was lovely and tasty......however the Beef was so dry and cut so thickly that it made it had to cut with a regular knife...a steak knife might have been better. Maybe cut the beef with an electric knife for much thiner slices. The service was nice and the puddings were good......but won't be coming back for the Carvery again. Will give it another chance on another day and with the week day menu. But will give the Carvery a miss .....sorry.

No food on some days, not advertised. No breakfast at all.

We have been wanting to try the pub since it changed hands and we weren't disappointed! We all had something different from the menu and everyone cleared their plates. Definitely recommend coming to the Dod and Partridge.

Interior is better, but the main dining area still looks a little canteen. Toilets really need a good sort out and making bigger, you can't wash your hands if somone is using the urinal.

Staff really lovely and helpful. As for the food sent a plate back, fried egg was burnt. My friends meal has a very long hair and the mash looked like baby food. Sent my burger back as burnt, cook did do another, but waited half an hour. So friends had to wait for me to finish. The only part was the land lady and staff was pleasant. This was before Xmas. This pub should be for builders and locals. I hope the breakfast are as they use to be.

Very average untrusting staff. No tabs when booked for lunch, pay up front or nothing. One room in the restaurant looks like a school classroom. Food was very average for the 21st century, no puddings on offer either. I am led to believe the pub is under new ownership or management, so maybe it will improve... I hope so, it's pretty dire at the moment.

Went out for Christmas lunch there with my family and everything about it was amazing! Super fast service, very friendly and lovely staff and incredible food! 100% worth it! Will definitely be going back for a Sunday carvery ! Thank you to everyone at the dog and partridge for making our Christmas so lovely!

I've not tried the food yet, so can't comment. The service is great, a welcoming smile, and a friendly approach. It's definitely a good atmosphere. Nice spacey pub, lovely fire (when lit)! I'll be back soon

Came down for their grand reopening. Superb band. Amazing atmosphere. Bar staff were sooo polite and welcoming. Will definitely be returning.

Absolutely loved staying at the bug and spider. I wasn't sure about pub accommodation but it actually turned out very good! Clean rooms, great service. Definitely recommend.

A great pub, but we're not serving food so they sent any more of our group that turned up there on to the new venue. Lovely service and good will. We will be back to this pub next year. Thank you to the team at the Bug & Spider.

It's a nice pub but staff our not friendly at all, very abusive language to customers was worried the bar man was going to start a fight in front of my 12 year old

This was the strangest resteraunt I've eaten In for a long time. It's basically a large open dining area in the middle of a shopping centre. You have a choice of multiple pre cooked meals which oddly you pay for in advance. Once selected ypu go to the relevant serving station a d collect / dish up from a buffet style arrangement your dinner. It really was basic food in a scholl dinner sytle enviro ment. The food was warm but not hot and although didn't look particularly appetising it tasted OK. If you need a quick budget meal with no frills then it's the place to go. If your looking for a classic French resteraunt then keep going.

Karen the landlady is moving on soon. The new owners would be foolish to change the staff as they were all really lovely. The " locals" were all very friendly and the pub has a great atmosphere because of them. We would definitely visit again if we were in the area. No evening meals available but we were welcome to bring food in and crockery and cutlery were provided for us. The accommodation obviously needs TLC and updating but was a bargain price and although you wouldn't choose it for a romantic weekend it was perfect for a ramblers rest. Stopped here on a ride out. Decent breakfast offering and well cooked. Staff super nice and helpful. Decor is needing an update though.

Great pub and overnight stay, would be nice to have something continental other then the full English, overall it was a great stay and excellent value for money, I will be staying here over the Lansdowne, more quiet, peaceful and great facilities.

Carvery was beautiful. We booked our table and were seated straight away on arrival. Friendly staff took our drinks order and explained the dining process. The food was lovely all the family enjoyed it even the fussy teen. Also loved the strawberry toilet seats.

Stopped for breakfast and it was great. Staff were fantastic. Will definitely stop again if I'm in the area

Every time I go there it gets worse, on my last visit everything was over cooked, sloppy vegetables and meat I could only just cut through, definitely won't be going back.

Myself and a few friends visited the Bug & Spider yesterday for their burger night and it was amazing food! The staff were also brilliant. For burger lovers, I highly recommend it 🍔👏🍸

This was the first time i had ever been to the "BUG". My friend who used to work at the kingfisher has just started work there so thought I'd do a recon. Very clean & tidy inside & the bar staff were very friendly. Good selection of cider on tap too which is good as it's my fave tipple. There's a dining room next to the small bar area & another area where the sunday carvery is served which ive heard rave reviews about. There's also accommodation available. Mind the potholes in the carpark lol. Give it a go if you're in the aeea.

Rather quirky set up, though I am not sure why I say that. Stopped for a bite and enjoyed it.

When we arrived the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. However, we found the Landlord particularly unfriendly and almost resentful of people visiting from out of the local area.

Can’t thank the landlady and landlord enough for their hospitality. Highly recommended.

If you are thinking of booking in here all I can say is don't . The room we were staying in had either sick or urine up the walls . The breakfast on the Monday morning had roast potatoes on which were left from the day before's carvery (even though they told us the kitchen was closed) . Rats running about outside the dining room . Landlord totally ignorant . Oh and if you want a drink after 8 on a Sunday night you have to go elsewhere as the bar is shut . 1st and last time for us

Took the family for a carvery today. The food was really good, thick slices of beef and pork and plenty of it, as well as good choice of vegetables. Will certainly be back soon. Would only say, it would be worth a drinks menu on the table and knowing the cost of items beforehand. Couldn't fault the service at all though.

The meals are very good value and well served. Prices extremely reasonable. Service very good everything is cooked from fresh produce. However the decor needs a good look at.
