Faultless. A great British pub offering good pub grub, good beer, a genial host and good atmosphere. Absolutely everything spot on as far as I am concerned

Wow wow wow. What an absolute gem of a place. A traditional old fashioned type pub with outstanding home cooked food and the friendliest people serving food I've ever come across. A busy Tuesday evening football night and pub was full of fans from both sides mixing how fans should do. Yet service was quicker than any fast food place, absolutely delicious and cracking value. 1 travelled 100 miles one way for the game and this place was the cherry on top. So much so I am, the day after, already discussing a visit again. One thing I would say to the people who run this pub, prepare and cook the food and serve it, please please please don't ever change. Locals, support this absolute gem. Big thanks to the pub and lovely people of Manfield for a cracking evening meal and company before the match.

Such a great, old fashion, classic Pub...the food is excellent. Best braised steak and mash EVER. STAFF, warm and welcoming.

Characterful pub in the centre of Mansfield. Good range of dinner options, including vegetarian/vegan. The chips were lovely. A rustic, home-cooked feel. Service a little slow, but staff friendly and polite.

In my way to football and had pie and chips best I've had for a long time would definitely recommend eating here

Spent the afternoon monthly meeting with close friends, a cozy little pub, with fantastic homemade food, a brilliant menu, warm and friendly staff, of real ales, we are making it our new meeting place from now on

I've been here a few times traveling from Nottingham, what a gem of a place , small cosey rooms ,great staff and the food WOW absolutely beautiful, always a few characters in which there is always a laugh to be had , love the place

Took my elderly aunties and daughter today and u have 4 very happy people. My aunties ordered fish and chips, daughter had scampi and I had braising steak. Everything was piping hot and absolutely lovely. So what do u do when you are happy...order desserts . They were totally yummy. Staff were very helpful, my daughter fell over on the street on the way in and they bought her a plaster . We will be back next wk and I already know im having a pie 🥧 😋

Excellent home cooking. We eat here quite regularly and the food is top notch. The staff are friendly and service is excellent.

We travelled to Mansfield from Essex to see Rock for Heroes. upon arriving we were told that the band had no time for food due to their van breaking down and consequently arriving late to set up their equipment. We asked the landlady (sorry forgot to ask your name) if she could make up some sandwiches for us to take away whilst we ate our delicious dinners. She not only provided a full selection of filled rolls but wrapped them all up for too. then gave us directions to the theatre. We will definitely visit here again when we are in the area. Highly recommend this very friendly pub.

Decided to go early tea time instead of cooking and as usual the food was lovely. All of our meals were polished off. I had a delicious steak and mushroom pie, mash and a great selection of veg and gravy. the home made pastry was lovely and the meat was so tender, lovely gravy too. My Mum had fish and chips and she said it was one of the best she had had, she loved the homemade chips. My son chose the burger, chips and beans which he said were delicious too. We didn't have room for pudding but they all sounded yummy so maybe next time! If you are after a hearty home cooked meal this is the place to go. The staff are very friendly and attentive and it has a lovely warm atmosphere. Great local pub!

So we placed our order and waited 45 minutes and we asked where our food was the short haired lady blamed us for “coming towards the end of the chip fryers being put on? Although it’s suppose to be serving food all day The food then came out cold and WITH A HAIR ON THE FOOD. Didn’t apologise she didn’t offer a refund only exchange of the food Poor service and poor attitude

Really cosy atmosphere with friendly, helpful staff. Walking distance to the train and bus station. The food is all home cooked with plenty of choice on the menu. The value for money is exceptional. Going again this week to try the Christmas menu. For those who like their ales, there is a great range to choose from.

The best home cooked traditional British pub food in Mansfield town centre in my opinion and home made chips are especially delicious. Excellent value for money with a nice selection of ales, spirits and ciders. Dont expect anything posh, just enjoy being in a real pub with friendly staff and pleasant atmosphere.

Visited with family for Sunday dinner , food was home cooked and delicious and we were served by a young man called Daniel who was polite and pleasant and went the extra mile to ensure we had everything we needed

Lovely traditional pub with well kept real ales. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Food is very enjoyable and very good value. There was music on Tuesday when we were there. Service was very good even when busy. Toilets were clean and well stocked.

Called in for Sunday lunch, A very busy locals pub, incredibly friendly,, huge amount of food for a very low price, Highly recommend.

Eaten again here, tried the steak and Stilton pie, absolutely lovely full of Stilton, great flavour. Roast potatoes and gravy are to die for, well worth a visit

I have been retired for 10 years and meet up with previous work colleagues every month for lunch at this venue. It is not expensive, the food is tasty and well cooked. We meet on a Wednesday because it is special offer day, 3 courses for £6.00, that is either soup or fruit juice to start, then a cooked dinner with fresh vegetables not frozen stuff and a traditional pudding with ice cream or custard. Pub grub at its best! The staff are friendly and they are always very busy because it is good value for money!

My husband and I ate here for the first time yesterday after reading good reviews on trip advisor and we were not disappointed. We both had home made soup to start then roast beef dinner followed by cornflake tart and custard. My husband had the cornflake tart because I reminded him that he used to always choose it but we haven't had it for years

It has been a year since I last visited the Railway Inn with friends and it is as good this year as last. There is a great range of proper beers, as well as other drinks and the fresh pub food is excellent. all this with lovely cheerful people serving at the bar. Highly recommended.

Will certainly be back. Delicious home cooked food. I had the steak, mushroom , garlic & red wine pie, real chips and fresh mixed veg with plenty of gravy. Mum had the gammon & pineapple with chi[s & garden peas, dad had the liver & onions with mashed potatoes & fresh mixed veg. Cooked perfectly & quick. The real ale was tasty, pity I could only have 1 pint, as I had to be home to do some gardening. The service was friendly & efficient, The atmosphere & local crowd was very friendly & welcoming. A special thanks go to the owner for running a super local pub, and of course to dear Arthur for his reminiscing & sharing his extensive knowledge & local history. in encouraging conversation & adding to the warm atmosphere of this little place.

this is a small old fashioned pub. The food is homemade and delicious. I chose beef it was excellent just right in every way

Conveniently placed near the market place, this traditional pub serves up hearty grub and is good value for money. There is a small but nice garden to sit in, and sometimes live music and sing-a-long sessions one a month.

Often visited on Saturday lunch-time, and the food is superb and very reasonably priced.

Pre match drink before football. Great place for a drink good service reasonable prices. Good selection of drinks. The food looked very good and priced as well unfortunately wasn't there enough time to order anything. Would recommend to any one to try this pub you won't be disappointed.

Good music Nights on Thursday's gets solid with folk so see who is on and get there early good all around fun evenings

I go into the Railway to eat and drink 2/3 times a month. They serve 4 ever-changing real ales and a decent selection of other beers, lagers, etc. Dishes are mostly home made, served with fresh veg and proper chips. £4.50 for the majority of main courses is excellent value. Visited last Saturday and Steak Pie in red wine sauce with proper chips and 2 veg was my choice; Lovely. This is not Michelin starred food, but it is hot, fresh, tasty and great value. Staff are always helpful and polite, but on Saturdays stretched. The Railway is a meeting place for many on a matchday, so it gets very busy when Mansfield Town are at home. Most weeks it also accomodates numbers of away fans, who are always made welcome. Many return year on year, which tells you a lot.

6 people visited the Railway Inn for Lunch in November and the food and staff were better than ever. The table we were allocated in the small front room was quite cold so the staff moved us to the back room to a table near the fire which was perfect. We had a very enjoyable meal and a long chat. We will certainly visit it again during 2017.

Popped in here for a drink whilst in town.Did not eat but staff where welcoming and polite.The place has old charm but needs a bit of decorating.Drinks average price for town.

Wonderful local pub with great atmosphere, good but small selection of changing real ales and great food. The food is very good value, freshly prepared, all home made and of good quality. The steak and kidney pudding was great and of a size double that of a tinned version.

My partner brought me here for my birthday lunch. Been here a few times and never been dissappointed. Lovely little pub staff are very friendly. Alot of choice on the menu,vegeterian menu aswell the portion are good sizes. Very good value for money,prices are reasonable all home cooked food.

I was looking for somewhere to take my daughter for a special family meal and i found the perfect place i booked a table for 10 and on arrival we were given the choice of 2 small side rooms the atmosphere was lovely and the food was fantastic all homemade and everyone was more than happy but not a crumb was left .. from homemade pie to melt in the mouth braising steak the price was unbelievable for the portions ..the lovely lady that served our drinks and cooked our food (she deserves a medal ) brought our cake out and always had a smile ..i can't rate this gorgeous little pub enough and will definitely be back

This is my favourite pub. Special mention has to be made of the vegetarian menu. It's so good to be able to choose from an interesting and well-thought-out list of vegetarian dishes.

We go on a regular basis when out shopping. The food is always excellent and home made.We love their chips.Desserts are just great.

We pop in here sometimes for lunch if we have been in town and want a nice warm wholesome lunch. We love the atmosphere and the food, there are many regulars and they chat to us and make us welcome. Thank goodness this lovely old pub is still going, long may it continue.

Visited the Railway Inn today with a friend and decided to have a bite to eat. The staff and customers were very friendly. We chose Cottage Pie and Braised Steak and were offered a choice of potatoes and vegetables to accompany them. There was also the option of having cheese on the pie! Both meals were under £5 and were excellent value. The food was home made and the portions substantial.

3 of us popped in on Sunday 11th April 2016 as part of a birthday treat, before going to the Theatre to see the Easter Panto (oh yes we did ). We all had a roast dinner (beef X2 chicken x1). Great portion sizes. Value for money. FRESH food not processed ping meals. Highly recommended. Great service by friendly staff

Wonderful little pub near the centre of Mansfield town,small and cosy with good beers on draft and a food menu that will cater for most people,the food is very reasonable but don't let the prices fool you it's amazing,all cooked using local butchers and veg suppliers,spoil yourselves.

Please read all of this before forming an opinion. The last time I visited The railway Inn was over 30 years ago, when it was full of Drink Driving Coppers (allegedly) who didn't give 2 hoots about dual standards ,or one rule for them and different rules for everyone else!

Been to this venue several times and also enjoyed excellent food at very reasonable prices, will definitely visit in the future.

We have visited many times and the staff are always friendly and accommodating, especially as we often have a large group of us and a wide pushchair.

We have been here a few times now, never had a bad meal. There is a great choice at great prices. They are all piping hot when they come out too. If you go on a Wednesday you get a three course meal for five fifty! Normal price for a meal is four fifty. You won't be disappointed!

It was my birthday and my wife and I decided to go into town. We have previously passed by this pub but as it was lunchtime we went in, It was a Wednesday and they had a special offer on that day but we chose to have just a sinlge main meal. The drinks selection was good and the beer seemed well kept. I ordered Liver and onions and my wife homemade cottage pie. They were both cooked to a very high standard and were presented nicely by the waitress. We would certainly call here again

We called here because it's dog friendly, but it was more than just the dog who was made welcome. The staff were superb, and very pleasant.

Visit here every Friday for lunch. It's a cosy little pub with good home made food. Do not come here if you want fine dining, come here if you want good old home made food and fantastic real ale. It's not pretentious at all just a homely family run pub.

Met up here before the away game at Mansfield and found the beer and friendliness really good.Local football fans were confident but were brought down to earth when Bristol rovers won easily.Great food and Sam the waitress was excellent.

My husband, our friends and myself have just returned from our favourite place to eat in Mansfield, we had the Wed special 3 courses for £5.50, the food is always hot and the vegetables are fresh not frozen, choice of roast, mash or boiled potatoes or proper chips. The staff are really friendly and helpful, we currently have our 20yr old grandson staying with us from Australia, he follows a Vegan diet and on his first visit we asked if they had anything for him and they offered Quorn mince and Sausages and even made him separate gravy to go with it, he was really impressed especially when he couldn't decide between guest beers and she gave him samples to try. Needless to say he has been back again a few times and will probably go a few more before he goes home next month. Good value for money and friendly staff you can't ask for more, we will be back.

Been and had another fantastic meal here today me and my family visit the premises for meals on a regular basis and have never had a bad meal yet, meals are always hot served to a high standard and value for money. Staff are very pleasant and friendly and would do anything to help.

Recommend by a friend, but was not that impressed. I Was particularly annoyed that despite the special set menu of three courses for £5.50 stating ANY MAIN COURSE AND ANY PUDDING on the choices, I was charged an extra supplement for one of my puddings. Food not bad, I've had better, but thought drinks expensive compared to local chain pub. E.g. Pint of lager cost £1 more than I usually pay and soft drinks were more expensive too. Not impressed with owners puppy running free throughout the pub most of the time we were there, especially with an open kitchen!! Would not return or recommend. Disappointed.

This place is by far the best for good home style food. All fresh cooked, piping hot, tasty and moreish. When we go into mansfield now I won't eat anywhere else

Take my mum out every week for a Sunday dinner and as she likes a drive we decided after looking at the reviews to try out the Railway Inn. It is a good 12 miles drive but well worth it.

I cannot recommend this little pub enough. The food is perfect, home cooked & just like your grandma would make. The chips are hand cut and the meals are unreal value! You can't get a McDonald's for this money! Please visit this pub sample the ales & the food - remember appearances can be deceptive - with all these new gastro pubs you could be put off but I guarantee you'll go back - I thought it was me & my friends little secret however seems more people have discovered Mansfield's little secret ;)

Never been before but would definitely come back. £4.50 for a double cheeseburger and chips was a bargain. Proper home made chips and the burger was juicy and succulent. Helpful and cheerful staff as well. Very happy.

A 2/3 minute stroll from the bus/train station is the RAILWAY INN where they offer a very reasonable menu of home cook food mains from under £5 and specials about £6ish with hand cut chips very good value for money not fine dinning but never the less nice tasty food.the pub has changed very little in the last 25yrs so a nice traditional pub still,unlike the many wetherspoons dotted around Mansfield Town Centre with their quick fix food!!! The Railway is a bit of a un sung hero really,it serves 3 real ales that change on a regular basis and must say kept to a hight standard, and its mentioned offten by CAMRA so says it all really,

I was in Mansfield for the day with my wife and her dad and needed somewhere for lunch.I had read the rave report on this pub from CAMRA,Despite living locally none of us had been before. A good selection of ales were on offer.I selected the excellent Harvest Pale. The enthusiastic girl behind the bar informed me that different ales are regularly available,We ate braised beef,scampi and a tasty beef and stilton pie, all served with home made chips.The meals along with 2 and a half pints came to not much more than twenty quid.Probably the best pub in Mansfield.

A small cosy traditional pub, offering a wide range of traditional home cooked meals at very reasonable prices. Each one of the wooden tables as etched onto it various locomotives. Would definitely return again and recommend this pub for its good food at reasonable prices.

We love the Railway, it has 3 ever changing real ales from mainly local breweries, friendly staff and the best pub food in the world ever. Have tried the pork and stuffing cobs, steak and kidney pudding (proper suet pastry), roast beef dinner, filled yorkshire pudding and more. It is the only traditional style pub I feel comfortable taking my mum to as she can be a bit of a pub snob but the meals and atmosphere here means she looks forward to a visit. The pub has a main room plus 2 'snug' areas and has a loyal regular clientele. Pearl and Wendy ensure that the food is freshly prepared and the home made pies are just superb.

The home cooked food is excellent value, is served promptly and tastes great. 3 ever changing real ales are always on offer and are always in excellent condition and are a very reasonable price. To me this what 'The Pub' should be, relaxing atmosphere welcoming locals, mainly local real ale and great food. Look out for quirky local characters and a raft of CAMRA awards

Had 20 minutes to wait for a bus in the middle of the day so visited the Railway for first time in about 60 years (used to go there with pals before Saturday night dances).
