Bar staff friendly and welcoming old style pub good to see

Went for a drink with my partner and his friend filthy pub we were being sneered at by bar staff and management and a one legged alcoholic which isnt staff and was told by the geriatric who was a customer that my partner could not get served. Asked staff what the issue was he said that my partner assaulted the staff and grinned my guess is they didnt want us there wont be going back awful people.security are very creepy.

There are more iconic pubs in Brighton let's be honest but tbf for a cheap and more than reasonable pint with screens galore for footie and other sport this close to the station haunt is absolutely fine.

Worst security at the door. Resolve security. Unprofessional and inappropriate to females.

I just wanted to leave a review for this place because honestly is the best pub in Brighton. The new owner has really changed the place around to such an inclusive environment. I went for a drink last night before getting the train. I was served by this lovely young lady she was extremely polite and accommodating. Asked me how my day was and if I needed anything else. Not only the prices are good but the general pub is very welcoming. I have come in here before but I’d honestly keep coming back and letting people know to start drinking in there. Only thing I would say is there needs to be system to tip on card the girl I was served by was amazing but she didn’t want a drink but I just wanted to give her a tip for her service. Thank you guys at the railway bell

We found ourselves stranded on match day because of trespassers on the train line and were not given a warm welcome. A young lad( not drinking alcohol)was told to leave as under 18. Bearing in mind ,nowhere else to go. There was 3 staff members one of whom was rude. The other 2 were very accommodating. It was only because it was close to station and we were awaiting the line to open otherwise we would not stayed

Comfy old-man boozer, friendly staff, with a pretty cracking soundtrack (Northern Soul, Mod classics) - very decently priced too (£5.90 for Guinness, glass of Tonic and crisps). Lovely 😎👍

I have to say that this place is my favourite in Brighton! Not only because its cheap, but the Bar staff service is amazing and they are all really nice to me and my friends every time we go for drinks. The music is always really good too and i love the upstairs bit a lot.

We had a few drinks here on Sunday (11 June) and the bartender was so friendly and had great chat. Thanks from all of us for a lovely time!

Nice and convenient place for travellers

I'm disabled and it's a bit of a rough pub I'd say. Let me tell you this, the bouncers and the staff, these guys are so friendly and always cheerful, if you're decent they will go out of their way to make your stay as pleasant as possible. I'd like to say a HUGE thank you to AL, a bouncer who saw me outside waiting for a bus and brought me a glass of water. You don't get this kind of chivalry very often. Thank you guys keep it rock'n' rollin!

Staff was friendly. My Fullers London Pride tasted a wee bit flat. Drank Guiness the rest of the night.

Visited The Railway Bell earlier after a journey to Brighton by rail with my wife. Truly obnoxious barman declared we must be alcoholic or craving coffee. Waited for the twisted sense of humour. It wasn’t there. He was having a bad day and he projected it onto us.

£4 a pint of Stella right outside of the station

Rude and obnoxious female door staff, I thought they had to be professional, instead escalated situation and enjoyed doing so. Avoid like the Plague.

Went for a day out at brighton with my sisters and we stopped off for a drink while waiting for our train and where to start... This pub dirty aand terrible service. The drinks might be cheap but wow this place is understaffed and the Australian man behind the bar is rude and obnoxious! Flys and a smell around the whole pub and disgusting toilets. Sticky tables dirty glasses... I asked for a gin and tonic in a short glass and I got a rude shocking response from the bar man....i notice he .treats his staff terribly big no no!!!

One of the fruit machines owed me 70 pounds because of an error I left my details with the barmaid when I didn’t hear anything back I went in there… I asked the manager about it he claimed to know nothing about it I’m quite sure either him or the barmaid stole the money… cheers

Bar staffs attitude rude!.. tall guy with long blonde hair said his name was Joe.. he completely ignored me and 1 other person came in he saw us.. finished serving then said who's next "? And went to a guy that just walked up to the bar served him then left the bar while we're still waiting and completely ignored our presence. A lady then came down with clean glasses and served us but u think that was completely ruddle as I work in customer services also!!

I have booked a place for 3 people on Tuesday evening at 8pm at the Canterbury Bell should be a nice evening the food is good.

Good place for beer and sports and good prices. Slightly more expensive at weekends but still reasonable compared to prices in other pubs around it

First time visit, had an hour to kill at lunchtime with wife. Several wooden bench / table combos outside, so took one of those. Sadly, they were right next to bus stop canopy but at least we were outside on a sunny day. Just over £8.50 for decent pint Guinness and double Bacardi with splash of coke. All the real ales were off, cleaning the lines or something perhaps. Big, well looked after interior with lots of large screen TVs, for sport I guess. Decent looking pool table in raised section towards the back. Felt welcoming and we'd be happy to return.

A handy place to stop for a pint if your waiting for a train in Brighton.

Had a few drinks before getting the train today, it was good to have a nice tasting reasonably priced beer, as we didn’t really find that anywhere else in Brighton. The barmaid was the perfect barmaid, quick to serve customers and a friendly word for everyone.

A good pub to have a quick pint before catching the train home. Busy place, but service good and quick.

A blast from the past, used to drink in there 20 years ago as an underage 16 year old. Decor is better now and they also had a live singer who did a great job

Really rude staff! Usually a nice pub to come to but came in on Halloween evening and remarked to the bartender that he looked like the wrestler The Undertaker (thinking it was a costume) to which he replied "and you look like diabetes on legs" (because I'm a big guy). It was a very unprofessional and personal attack which really spoilt my evening.

Only been here once, but it was a nice visit. Not many beers were available, but it was early in the day. Staff were excellent.

Literally wish I could leave 0 stars. Tried to come Here to watch the PSG v MCI game with my boyfriend and were refused service ask me why? We hadn’t even been in the pub for 2 minutes but I guess the colour of our skin infuriated the bartender. He tried to say it was because we are here for the Labour Party conference, and the pub doesn’t serve people with political affiliation, but 2 nights ago countless white Labour Party attendees were at this same bar for the Anthony Joshua fight. Honestly thought the world was evolving to a more equal and fair place, very saddened to see things like this still happen.

I recently visited the railway bell pub and found it to be quite inviting as the recently refurbishment has made a big difference to its appearance. At the time when I visited, it was mid afternoon so was queit just a few customers. There was only one member of staff who just happened to be the pubs manager who came across as quite friendly and helpful. The bar prices are very affordable as I paid just £2.30 for a pint of John smiths bitter which I think is cheaper than weatherspoons. There was sport on the TVs so great if your a sports fan. So in all I would recommend you pop in if your ever up by the train station.

The guy behind the bar was extremely rude. No fruit with the drinks, no straws - very unhelpful with mean attitude.
