Rachel's in Oxford

I had a coconut Custard bun which was nice and spongy with a really nice filling. The matcha latte was yummy too. I would come back here again if I'm in the area.

I went in because I had some time before the coach back to London (which is right in front of it) and people kept coming and going so it's obviously popular. I can't give it more than three stars though and I'll explain why and hopefully they will see this. First of all I only got a banh mi, but they had a lot of stuff on the menu, so my review is based only on their char su banh mi. It was fine, I wouldn't tell anyone not to get it, but there were issues. It certainly is not as good a banh mi as Keu in London. To start with the bread was not warm and crunchy like it is at Keu or in Vietnam. It was a sort of bog standard baguette. The filling was good. The veggies and the meat were very tasty. Unfortunately there just wasn't enough of them, especially meat. Again, I only compare it to the many banh mi's I've had in the last couple of years. In closing, it is a perfectly fine banh mi but it wouldn't win any awards. You need to pack that baguette guys, most banh mi's I've ever eaten have the ingredients falling out of the bread. Also you need to up your bread game, that baguette needs to be warm and seriously crunchy if you want it to be authentic.

Delicious freshly baked goods! Amazing vegan options too! Banh mi with tofu satay was a highlight, but the sticky rice parcels and the red Bean fluffy bun was the best I've ever tried! So gooood. Will be back next time in Oxford

Always friendly service and simply the best pastries in Oxford. The coconut custard snowskin moon cakes are almost too pretty to eat and highly addictive

This is, like, one of my favourite places in Oxford. I want to gatekeep it because I love it so much. The matcha? The selection of sweet and savoury items? Perfect spot to do work. Only qualm is it needs a bathroom.

My sis bought me some egg tarts... 5 in fact, lovely, fulsome, and great taste. A little expensive compared to Chinatown at 2.60 per tart. However, would defo buy again, if going to Oxford.

Super cute cafe and the staff were really friendly! I got the vegan banh mi, the sweet red bean cake, and an espresso. All was super tasty, my only recommendation is to get better baguette for the banh mi as it wasn’t super crispy and tasted a little bit like a Tesco baguette. x

Great steamed buns and really friendly staff

Cute cafe with drinks and buns! We tried the tofu hoisin baguette, char Sui bun, chicken bun and the custard snow skin moon cake. All were very nice!

I try and come into Rachels any time I'm passing through St Clements as the Bahn Mi and Char Siu Bao are absolutely delicious! The service staff are very friendly too, even when the place gets busy.

Such good food here. Love the buns and the banh mi. The place has got character too. Handy for a bite to eat before jumping on the coach to London.

Been wanting to come here from out of town for about a year and finally made it. The food did not disappoint. We got a bit of everything savoury that we could. The steam buns are huge, smaller bits are rich in flavour and still fill you up, and the sweet pastries are just right, not too sweet. I will make a detour when driving anywhere near Oxford to eat at Rachel's again.

A lovely cafe with a lot of different options and incredibly lovely bamm mi!! The staff was lovely and recommended an item and helped us choose which was lovely! The lotus cake was a bit dry but it was nice as well. The only reason not being a 5 star was that there was no inside seating available and also there were some staff who were constantly staring us from above? Which made us feel a bit awkward and also the Bam mi needed a bit better packaging since by the time I opened it it was quite soaking the packaging. Will be back for steamed buns!

Great place, very interesting selection, almost Pan Asian, some great Vietamese Baguettes, Chinese / Japanese Buns and Chinese Cakes. Just wish they did Chiffon Pandan and opened longer more often. Lovely, friendly staff.

I'm a regular at this sweet Asian bakery. The bao buns are to die for and the sweet pastries are lovely too. I also love the tofu satay banh mi. I come here with friends all the time and it goes down a treat. Fantastic veggie options but my meat loving friends are always happy too. Love it here:)

A 3-star review with the caveat this is only on grading the coffee, which was completely average. The pastries and snacks looked legit and are likely wonderful and authentic, albeit pricey (4 GBp for mini versions). No room for sitting but very friendly staff.

I've lived in Hong Kong and grew up eating food cooked by my Malaysian grandmother and this is the kind of food I had. This is the real deal and so delicious.

Most likely the best latte in Oxford. Possibly even in UK, I tried various cafes in London and Oxford and Rachel's beat them out of the park easily. The staff is friendly and food is also delicious. I've become a daily-regular despite the 30min walk from my home; IT'S WORTH IT!

Grossly overpriced food to the point of being a rip off. Also, not very good service. I won't return to this place.

This is a great little cafe, and I am so happy that it has emerged from lockdown still in business. For years it has been my favourite place for a slightly elevated East Oxford lunch, a cut above the competition in terms of variety and tastiness. The banh mi sandwiches are really nice, with a good choice of fillings - I like the satay chicken with sriracha. The pastries/dim sum things are good too - the pork buns are best, and the moon cakes are also good. The coffee is also amazing, as good or better than most of the speciality coffee places around. A flat white and a few little butter cookies make for a perfect afternoon pick-me-up.

Had their charsiu steam buns and coffee which are so tastyyy! Highly recommended their steam buns! There's a friendly girl who drew cute graphic on the cup which makes my day! Will definitely visit again

Love this place! Tasty coffee with lots of non-dairy milk options and really tasty sticky rice parcels.

I purchased the vegan sticky rice dumpling on 30/01/20 and was instead given the meat one. It also contains shrimps, which I am severely allergic to. I was given a new one but no apology was offered. Shame as I often visited to buy the dumplings.

Delicious Bao buns, a nice friendly local place. Can be a bit cold though as the door is kept open.

Good cappuccino (with coconut milk) and good flat whites too. Good coffee stop...

I love the way they make a lovely design with the milk. The taste of it is average, the range of pastries is little but the baguettes look delicious. It is not my favourite place, but it is very convenient if you are waiting your bus to the airport, London or any bus towards Headington.

Amazing food and wonderful, welcoming staff. Unfortunately the building has very poor access for disabled customers and highly limited toilet facilities. If you want to take food away that's great but disappointing when we wanted to eat in.

He estado aquí unas 5 veces, supongo que la mejor descripción es una cafetería. Es un poco indescriptible cuando entras, hay algunas mesas y un mostrador detrás de los cuales hay una variedad de pasteles, bollos al vapor, paquetes de arroz, y un menú para sándwiches (que no he probado pero escucho que son bueno) . El lugar tiene horarios de apertura impares que parecen cerrar alrededor de las 4 pm, pero es un excelente lugar para tomar un almuerzo rápido o un refrigerio antes de tomar un autobús en la calle Clements. Por el bien:  - Los bollos al vapor son increíbles! He probado los bollos de cerdo Char Siu, el pollo y la verdura. Todos los ingredientes para el relleno tienen un sabor fresco, y tienen una gran textura. Al cortar, se puede ver todo claramente: ¡los rellenos no se han convertido en papilla, lo que es genial! Los bollos son pillowy y delicioso.  - Los paquetes de arroz son muy sabrosos y tienen una cantidad generosa de carne o verduras en el interior.  - Los pasteles. . . La natilla de coco una vez es deliciosa y sutil. Pasta escamosa y crujiente rellena con natillas de coco cremosas y ligeramente cálidas. La alubia roja es casi más sabrosa que la dulce, pero igualmente deliciosa, y una vez comí una de ajo, que era dulce y, aunque me costó un poco acostumbrarme, finalmente fue deliciosa. Este lugar es tranquilo, el personal es amable y tiene una decoración sencilla. Si bien no parece nada especial, es una de esas pequeñas gemas que no se disculpa por ser simplemente lo que es: comida deliciosa todos los días.

Brilliant cafe ! Without a doubt the best coffee on St Clement's. A great selection of quick and tasty good, the pork dumplings and the Char Sui baguettes are a particular highlight. Highly recommended!

I was surprised to find an Asian bakery in Oxford on a day trip from London. The staff were friendly and very pleasant. The coffee was excellent and so were the BBQ pork buns that we had. Would definitely recommend to others and make a return visit next time I'm in Oxford.

One word: Yum! The chicken and char siu bao are delicious, made fresh and puffy. The red bean bao was also amazing & their drinks are superb. The baristas are also very welcoming and friendly, especially the one who works Tuesdays

Yum yum, love their buns so much! All the buns are so nice which makes me so difficult to choose. Banh mi, pastry, coffee all are really good! You can pop into the shop while you are waiting for bus!

Very disappointing, stopped to grab something quick and saw they had vegan options. Ordered two tofu Bahn Mi Baguettes to eat in, £12 for two very small under-filled rolls. Found one ultra thin slice of cucumber, and a tiny sprinkling of grated carrot and Daikon radish, struggled to find the tofu as well. I have had bahn mi overseas and in the UK, which were full of filling, crunchy and fresh. Yes service was friendly but they should be embarrassed serving this up at these prices. We were visiting Oxford for the day, and this left a very bad taste with us. One to avoid.

I like this place. Everything is quite modern but cute at the same moment. But I would lie if I will say that they have best coffee which I had tried. But still it is a good place for date or just meeting with friends.

Hole in the wall with exorbitant prices. The pastries are the worst. They taste like they were made weeks ago. They away with it cause locals probably think that's how they taste... Or probably no one buys these and they get left over for a long time.

I love this place... whenever I’m in the area I go here, why? Because in my opinion they serve the best coffee in Oxford. The croissants are always super fresh too, some interesting other items on the menu, which I’ve tried a few of but yet to explore more. On top of all that, the owner Kin is a super nice guy and always shows a genuine interest in who you are, what you’re up to and how you like your coffee. Im hard to please but this place makes me smile.

Petit café mignon où j'ai pu retrouver ces fameuses brioches de riz que j'aime tant ! Celle aux haricots rouges est top, et bun aux petits pois aussi ! Parfait pour un petit dej qui sort de l'ordinaire et convient TB aux gluten free et Vegan :)

Been visiting Rachel's for nearly 4 years...so worth the journey and we save up for this special occasion - much better waiting than going for nearby places with dishes that aren't up to scratch and charge twice as much. You can really tell the skill and care put into the food - from the cookies to the paos and egg tarts and roast pork pastries...we can live here 😋😋😋. For special festivals they go out of their way to make Bachang / sticky rice parcels for Dragonboat Festival. Definitely making note for next year's dates!

This place is very handy if you are waiting for the London or Airport bus, but worth visiting just to eat the buns. They do steamed buns (char siu, veg, custard etc), sticky rice parcels, baguettes and banh mi, as well as cakes and pastries. And coffee and tea. There is seating. This is a great place for lunch or a snack, really tasty.

Fluffy, sweet-and savoury char sui pork buns and really excellent coffee. What I bring round to my girlfriend's for breakfast when I want to cheer her up. The seating area is very nice (plug sockets available!) and generally underused.

We accidentally stumbled into this place as we were waiting for the oxford-london-tube. We had the custard steam buns and red bean steam buns - both of them very tasty, fresh and hot.

A lovely little place that serves up super tasty bao and dan tarts, along with coffee and sandwiches. It keeps slightly odd opening hours but I love when I manage to catch it open, absolutely delicious.

Love this place! After trying so many Asian pastries in England have to say this little gem tops the lot. They got the Malaysian curry puff dough right down to the layering of the oil/water dough mix, even Malaysian friends have said that is hard...

Lovely coffee, friendly service, and an interesting range of food that you won't find in other cafes. The butter cookies and egg tarts are delicious; I haven't tried the more adventurous things (e.g. moon cake) yet...

I popped in Rachel's one morning on my way to work having not had time for breakfast at home and had one of there tasty panini's and have sinced popped by a few more times. The member of staff who serves me is always lovely, very polite and friendly. They do a small menu but well with a few british choices alongside asain, the coffee is also very good.

The owner is really kind and helpful. The steamed buns are perfect. Located right in front of the bus stop. Perfect.
