I visited here with my daughter and her family, and it was a treat of a place. The Sunday roast was delicious and the Yorkshires to die for. The staff were attentive and friendly. The puddings were glorious. Will definitely return.

We visited The Racehorse whilst holidaying in the area. We love the fact that it’s a community owned pub. We received a warm welcome with our dog and very much enjoyed our meal. Good value for money too!

After being recommended many times by a volunteer at the Racehorse who also frequents our pub, The Rumburgh Buck, we finally paid a visit today 13th January. What a disappointment. In the Good Beer Guide and yet had just one very strong beer and a Porter on offer. A rather tall barmaid had no idea what the two beers were but explained the pub did have three lagers, cider and a local scrumpy called Giggler. maybe they cater for the younger generation more. The beer was far too strong for lunchtime drinking and the alternative was a porter, if you like that sort of drink. this was not what we were expecting and not surprisingly we shall not return. It would have been so nice to take a good report back to Rumburgh but that will not happen. A great shame.

An amazing public house, the staff(who are all volunteers) and the food is 5 stars. We had the roast which was filling and very well presented. The home made desert was heaven. well worth every penny, The customer service is off very high standard. A visit to this community run pub is a must and the village should be very proud of themselves having this amazing pub, staff and chef.

My friends and I are visiting the area and looked for a local pub for lunch. Whilst we were only an hour walk away it took us a lot longer after a few wrong turns. We arrived at the pub and was greeted by a friendly team, we had an amazing lunch and the team helped us get back to our accommodation. I would definitely return again if I was in the area.

Located in the beautiful village of Westhall, this pub has loads of country charm! We visited last week during a trip to Suffolk and fell in love with the history and story behind this place. The community came together to keep it open and they run it together, you can feel the warmth of friendship inside. Everyone was welcoming and friendly, great service, absolutely lovely, would make sure our travels include this pub again next time!

We walked to the pub for lunch with friends who live just up the road, intending to have a small, quick snack. Clearly the kitchen needs better organising as we had an incredibly long wait for our food, which did not bother us as we were catching up on news. But, when the food arrived, one plate had a different item to that ordered, and the other was not as described on the menu. However, we enjoyed the food. The greeting was friendly and sitting outside in the sun very relaxing. I wish the new manageress every success as it is vital to keep pubs like this going.

Had a meal at the Racehorse whilst stayng at the delightful Sunnyside Campsite just up the road. Friendly staff, a good selection of beers. The food was rather basic and choice very limited but it was good to support the local initiative and once they have a full time chef we are sure this will improve. Well done for keeping a nice country pub open - we wish you every success!

A favourite place of ours, lovely friendly staff, good beer and really good food too. It's a successfully run community pub, clearly well supported by the locals, and what we love and appreciate about The Racehorse. The Sunday roasts are what we usually come for but today we came for a cheeky mid week lunch.. meat balls & spaghetti, and a Greek salad, both excellent and good value. We will be back, again and again...

Lovely community owned pub in a quiet village in Suffolk. Staff are all friendly and chatty. Have guest ales on as well as usual pub drinks. We didn’t try any food other than a chocolate hazelnut cheesecake which was great. Check opening times and food service before you go, as this is a community pub things change.

Walked to Westhall and were greeted by a friendly cat. Thereafter every person we saw said hello. Got to The Racehorse as they were about to close but got a great beer and had nice conversation. Not rushed at all. Didn't eat but food events looked like a reallu popular element of this community run pub

Visited The Racehorse last night for its opening as a Community Pub. It's currently only saving drinks (apparently planning to offer food from the New Year) having only just secured the deal on the premises. They've set the bar high with the opening night - full of friendly people, buzzy, good friendly bar service and some interesting local keg and craft beers (Ampersand, Grain, Bull in the Woods and Green Jack were well represented with the barrels well kept) and competitively priced. This promises good things for the future!

Having just acquired a bike I decided to cycle here on a most miserable Sunday to try out their roasts. I must say I was pleasantly surprised - the food was excellent but more importantly for me (being a gravy lover) was theeeeeeeee testing of it. It was really lovely - my mother was never good at gravy so I cannot say just like my mother makes but it is just like my paternal grandmother made. The vegetables were not overcooked - exactly how they should be. Will be cycling here again soon.

Had yet another wonderful Sunday roast dinner here this week. Have been several times and have meant to leave a review but only now got round to it. A proper home cooked roast dinner by a good cook! I thought my husband cooked a great roast but sorry to say, this was better! ( I ll be in trouble now) A lovely country pub with a great atmosphere, friendly staff and locals . The quality of the meal just makes the experience even better. Choice of 2 meats, lots of, home made roast pots and yorkshires, at least 4 seasonal veg and large jug of gravy !! Couldn't fault it. Thank you !!

Spent the week in a cottage nearby on holiday and decided to give the local pub a try. Our 15 month daughter decided to play up causing the friendly staff to bend over backwards to accommodate us. They served food before the scheduled time and also discounted the childrens meal rate due to her size. The restaurant is very pleasant set in a quiet village. Menu was varied and was home cooked. Would liked to have gone back for one of the quiz nights advertised.

For £24.20 two of us had Gloucester Old Spot Sausages, onion gravy, mashed potato and peas, a dish of very good chips, pint of beer and a tonic. We asked for the sausages (3) to be well cooked to burnt which the were. The atmosphere is village pub as the used to be. Two very slight niggles, the ashtrays on the tables outside had not been emptied from the night before and no loo paper in one of the ladies' lavatory, which were very clean. Neither of which will stop us going back as I expect it is a management problem that will be solved

Ben ans Sara, a lovely hard working young couple who are putting the pub back on the map after years in the wilderness. The Racehorse is now a hidden gem, well worth a visit for those of us who had abandoned it. Warm welcome, well-kept ales and excellent food. I believe the new owners, Ben and Sara have only just taken over this pub and so far, they seem to be doing a fantastic job. We arrived to a great, warm and friendly welcome. The pub has a great friendly atmosphere with a lovely seating area around the back to sit if the weather is nice. The food was excellent. The service was great. Could not fault it. A smile, friendly welcome and good food and great service all makes up to a great afternoon out.Looking forward to visiting for lunch again very soon.

We popped in here enroute to our camping holiday and we were pleasantly surprised. Apparently it was their opening day but you wouldn't have guessed it. The atmosphere was lovely and the landlord and his wife were friendly and hospitable. Now under new management The Racehorse has had a major facelift. The pub is very welcoming with an excellent garden. Perfect for families. We had lunch there too. Ham, egg and chips and a ploughmans and it was delicious. We will definitely be popping in there again. I'm sure the reviews from now on will be far more positive than what this establishment has received in the past. Can't wait for our next visit.

Sunday lunch, 2 choices. Veggie friend told " might be able to find something".....they did but no choice.Roast meats weren't roasted, it came out of a packet, heated in microwave, grey and indistinguishable as a meat. Vegetables overcooked. Food on a plate like school dinners. Landlady rude and unwelcoming. Are they trying to run this pub into the ground?

I found this pub by accident whilst searching for an evening meal on a short holiday break. Westhall is well off the beaten track but worth finding the Race Horse Inn for friendly service and, if my plate of food was typical, a hearty helping. I opted for "Hunter's Chicken" from the blackboard menu - a generous chicken breast (or possibly two) sandwiched bacon and delicious melted cheese accompanied by a BBQ sauce, jacket spud, mushrooms & onions. It was one of those plates of food that you see and believe you can't possibly get through, but not wanting to let the chef down, I polished off the lot with half of cider. The Race Horse Inn has the bonus of being a dog friendly pub.

We tried the Racehorse for Sunday lunch - under the new management. Very disappointing experience, to say the least. The service was abrasive, slow, impolite, and certainly without a hint of a smile! When we asked for a menu we were told that on a Sunday the only 3 options were roast pork, roast beef, or roast chicken dinners - but as one of our group of three was a (fish-eating) vegetarian, we asked if there was a vegetarian or fish option. We were told there wasn't - and we couldn't order anything from the regular menu today (scampi & chips, a jacket potato, or a veggie burger would have sufficed...). When we questioned this again we were grudgingly told the only thing they could do was to make us a vegetable pizza. This said as if it was a huge inconvenience. We then waited 50 minutes for our food to arrive. This without apology or update on the status of our food order. 50 minutes - for 2 roast dinners to be plated up, and a veggie pizza to be cooked! When one of our group spoke to the woman (manageress?) to point out the length of time we had been waiting, he didn't even get to finish what he was saying as she cut him off (in a defensive and curt manner) by saying "well we are very busy today and you DID order the pizza, so it takes longer to get it all out of the fridge and everything" (!) - this said without a hint of apology and as she was actually WALKING AWAY from him! The rudest and most dismissive service we've ever witnessed - making us feel like it was our fault that we had a ridiculous 50 minute wait for our food, because we'd dared to require something other than the 3 meat roasts!50 minutes after ordering, the food finally arrived and tasted ok - the pizza was at least fresh rather than frozen, although topping a pizza base with chopped veg and cheese still doesn't seem to warrant that kind of a waiting time.Of course, there was no asking if our meal was alright - and she avoided eye contact at all cost as she gave us our bill at the end of the meal.To add to the long wait for food and poor quality customer service - actually treating the customer with disdain, in fact - the open door policy towards dogs meant that we waited for, and finally ate, our meal in the presence of a big smelly dog, off his lead, who wandered freely around the tables and stared longingly at our plates. Off-putting when trying to eat, to say the least. In summary, a total lack of interest from the staff and a lack of common courtesy (let alone customer-facing service standards) left us feeling annoyed and disappointed, on what should have been a pleasant family lunch.

We ate here quite late on a Sunday afternoon, following a long tiring day at the beach in Southwold where everything seemed to be closed at the time we needed to find somewhere to eat.The Racehorse was quite quiet when we arrived, due to the time of day, but the welcome was warm and friendly. The food service was almost over for the day but this didn't detract from the freshly cooked meal that we got.The food was good value for money, quite large portions, and we all felt quite satisfied when we finished.

We used to go to this cafe years ago and always enjoyed our experience. Unfortunately today our experience was not a good one. Felt like I spent more time queuing for drinks and then back for food than sitting down and enjoying the experience. The menu seems somewhat downgraded from when we went before (very limited - no JPs or salads etc.). In the counter pastries (sausage rolls and tea cakes) sold out by 11:30. But for us we ordered 2 x bacon, cheese and tomato paninis (£8ea with no salad garnish!). I think the photos show the problems, as one of the guests are in early pregnancy I am really disappointed this grey spoilt meat was served. They didn’t come round and ask how the food was like most restaurants do, so we took the plate up the girl looked confused and took it to the kitchen they offered another one (noting no apologies given) but spoilt meat was enough to put us off and they did complete a refund for the one that was off quickly. Such a shame but to be served off meat is pretty terrible for a well established cafe. Won’t be back, which is such a shame. Note: we are not people to complain so this is a rarity. The shop however is still a lovely visit.

Having a short break from my stressful job at Kessingland Beach Holiday park, and this lovely pub is just round the corner and within walking distance. Wow, atmosphere is lovely, very welcoming and genuine local pub, we left our dog in the caravan, but found they let dogs in the pub. Big seating area outside, that would be lovely to sit in, in summer as it overlooks the sea. Hubby had the cheeseburger which came with coleslaw, crinkle chips and onion rings, he said it was lovely, with a proper butchers burger, I had fish and chips with garden peas, or shall I say Moby Dick, it was that big.... Beautifully cooked meal, really enjoyable, thank you, it was lovely.
