Best fish and chips I ever had the staff are very nice and and curry sauce was amazing

Was on holiday in the area and had fish and chips on our last night. I can honestly say this is the best fish and chips I have had in a long time, beautiful crisp batter and flakey fish. Very friendly and cheerful staff who take you order. If your in the area give them a try.

Best fish & chips we've had in years! And reasonably priced! The fish was lovely, and the battered sausage was a proper sausage! Chips appear to have been cooked in beef dripping.. delicious!

Worst fish and chips I have had for a while. Fish was dry and tasteless. Tasted like the oil hadn't been changed for a while. I was also very ill for 24hours after eating these, as were 2 other people I was with. Never again.

My Partner ordered Battered Sasusge & Medium Chips, while I tried the Plaice & Small Portion of Chips. I received a whole Plaice (minus heads etc). The fish was melt in the mouth and didn't taste fishy at all. Cooked to perfection and I only managed to eat half of my meal at the first of two sittings. £6 for the Plaice and about £15 in total for our meals was tremendous value. Best Fish and Chips I've had in the last 20+ years - 20 out 10 in value, quality of food and friendly staff.

The Large Cod was fabulous along with the regular Cod.Cooked so that the batter was crispy and the fish nice and moist with the skin on, which I love. Had a Saveloy to eat on the way home and it was nice and spicy and very tasty. I think the sausages are a bit expensive even if they are Seppings sausages.m The staff are extremely polite and efficient. If you want proof of how goos it is look at the queue of people and watch how quick they are moving through the shop.

Wow! The fish & chips were lush. The large fish was huge, lovely batter, meaty fish and not greasy at all. The chips were some of the best I have ever had. 5* all the way

quite simply the best fish & chips in the area friendly efficient staff also other items are all of a good quality with a local butchers proper sausage unlike a lot of other chippies who just use cheap alternatives

Really pains me to make a negative review on Beccles Fish Bar but the amount of times we check online to make sure it’s open only to find on arrival they are closed is becoming a joke. They serve great fish and chips (when open) but really do seem to pick and choose opening times. We’ve noticed when they are serving, people are not cueing in the numbers as they once were - are others getting annoyed by things as well? Ultimately businesses need down time but change your opening hours online to save customers wasting a journey in to town. Let’s hope they take heed, if it happens again we (and others we know) will boycott and use the “The Cod House” on Ravensmere Road.

Travelled a long way because we like their Fish and Chips checked first that they were open the site said yes got there and they were CLOSED not happy at all terrible way to run a business imo

Ordered a medium cod, the size of it was tiny. Genuinely the smallest fish size I’ve ever had from a chippy before - a small square. It was extremely greasy too unfortunately. Much better chippy down the road, lesson learnt

Visit the fish bar most weeks. Food is hot and tasty every time. Staff are friendly. Sausages lovely. Chips are very good. Best chippy in the area.

Why do people queue for this crap. The servers sorry teenagers were more engrossed in talking than serving, the food after a long wait was over cooked and tasted vile. This by far is the worst fish and chip shop I've ever been too. DON'T BUY THIS RUBBISH A MICROWAVE MEAL WILL TASTE BETTER. Very disappointing! Oh and that turd photo is the battered sausage.

This is my favourite Chip shop around, and believe me I have tried them all, from Diss to Beccles. And everywhere in between and I happily drive 16 miles to purchase their chips, Cod is amazing too.

Was sure I was sold reheated sausages today, cremated sausages with very dark hard batter.worsed I have had in the fifty years of using this shop

What has happened here?? I used to enjoy the fish and chips here but after my last visit not sure I will come again. Prices have gone up, but the fish and chips have gone down. Not that tasty and not that hot. Shame.

From being the best Fush and Chips in the area they have gone down considerably. From large flaked milky cod done to perfection with delicious light batter. We received today thin over cooked tail end cod with batter like cardboard. The price was the same the quality was nowhere like it gas always been before. Will think twice before returning.

Terrible food. Bought as a treat for my Mum. Arrived just after 5pm and no queue. The cod was completely dried out and inedible. Obviously not cooked fresh. Complete waste of £13.

Love this chip shop...we travel miles, as a day out to Beccles. We buy our sausage and chips and love the quality and service. What has upset us over and over again is, the wrong info on their website. They never ever give their opening hours over public holidays! It is infuriating to see on the webb-site that they are open and then get there and a little written notice on the door saying "closed for bank holiday". Why can't you post it on your Web site!!!!!! And you never answer your phone. An

Decent and average price for area.

We saw the queue which is generally a sign of good quality then called and ordered over the phone..very efficient taking order. We were a little late getting, but given the number of orders they were processing, not surprised and wasnt a problem...overall very impressed with their efficiency, friendly service and safe approach. Delicious chips and very good fish..nice and flaky. Would be very happy to return when in Beccles.

Yes good chippy. Good sausages. Good varied meal. Clean shop. Only I didn't like was the black skin on the fish wish they would take skin off. Can't eat the black skin. Yuk?!!

I am in my 70s and have lived in a coastal town all my life and have eaten Fish & Chips since I was a lad. The Fish & Chips I had today were amongst the best I have ever eaten the Cod was thick and milky fresh ,the batter was light and tasty and the chip portion although supposedly small was extremely generous.We will be a regular customer now for sure.

Used to be really good, and to be fair the food is still OK. It's just chaos trying to get the food - placing an order is pointless, never ready when they say it will be. Worth going if you can afford to wait half a day to recieve what you've ordered.

Always use here but tonight i was three minutes late to collect my order, had to wait 20 mins and was told they have a new way of ordering etc if you are a few minutes late you lose your order young girl was very rude wont be going back after using this place for 20 years

Had to wait a short while because they were busy, but we'll worth the wait. Ordered 2 small cod and chips, cod was cooked perfect, just melted in the mouth, couldn't eat all the chips, for a small portion there was enough for 2 let alone 1. 10 out 10.

Was looking forward to nice fish and chips. Especially after reading the reviews. What we got were slimey clumps of chips. Thick batter to make the fish look big. Brother ordered a gherkin that wasn't there when we got home. Reason I gave an extra star was that the fish wasn't to bad once I dug it out from the batter.

Despite placing an order, repeating it twice to make sure, still didn't receive correct order and the order wasn't complete. How difficult can it Be!

Run out of nearly everything but tried to accommodate.

Not knocking the quality of the fish or chips or the staff, but phoned an order in for collection yesterday, and wasn't informed it makes no difference to collection as still had to que to pay then wait in line. My purpose of phoning it was so I could collect at said time, not have a further half hour added to my already legthend week!!!!

Ok fish and chips, but I made the mistake of phoning in my order at 17:00 told it would be ready at 18:00. Arrived at 17:59, big queue good job I ordered went to counter to collect my order to be told that I had to queue up! Told them that I had ordered collection at 18:00, to be told that I still had to queue. Got my order at 18:35. Crazy system will not be using this chip shop again.

We dived in feeling more than peckish, but the quantity was such that none of the three of us could finish it! This to my mind was a tragedy! The food was excellent, cooked to perfection! The staff, warm, friendly, and polite, were so eager to please! If you get the chance, drop in! You won't be disappointed! I'm going back at the first opportunity! :-)

No better fish and chips Anywhere, period.

Have been coming here for over ten years and on the whole the food is decent enough. Used to be consistently excellent, but more recently the quality seems to vary so much. Prices are good, chips are fairly consistent with mostly good portion sizes, sausages are usually very good but you do occasionally get one burned black, same with the scampi. The Cod is generously cut however, and often with good flavour and well cooked but what really lets it down, probably seven times out of ten, is that it isn’t drained long enough before being put into the paper and wrapped up heavy handedly, tighter than a drum. The end result is pulpy, wet batter, mushy fish and soggy chips, saturated in oil. This only seems to be a problem when they’re wrapped though, open is always very good but not worth complaining as it doesn’t change, just got to take your chances really. Never leave without checking your order either, especially if you live out of town as they will forget multiple things, every week, guaranteed. When it’s good it’s fantastic, but when it’s not, it’s inedible. If the fish were well drained, gently wrapped, order slips double checked and just the old standards brought back, I’d have given 5 stars.

Visiting Beccles I enjoyed three evening takeaways - two fish, and one sausage. For all three generous portions of chips which were twice OK and once very good indeed. Fish once the batter was crisp and delicious, the other was rather greasy and flabby. The sausage was fine.Overall value for money and friendly service - my experience of food once very good indeed, the other two 'average', I think it depends upon time of your visit. But even at 'average' it is value for money and if I visit Beccles again i shan't hesitate to buy food here again.

After spending 37 pound the food was unedible the fish was swimming in grease curry sauce tasted of perfume sausage was burnt when phoned to complain they put phone down on us worst chip shop in uk

We had some really good fish and chips. A good thick piece of well battered fish which was nicely cooked with some really good chips, again well cooked, not soggy and greasy as is so often the case.

Went there because nothing much open. Batter was greasy and inedible but fish inside was lovely and meaty and chips were not soggy. If the fish was freshly cooked it might have been better.

Couldn't be more appalled at the service, sausage was raw inside and when I went back to ask for a refund I was told it was normal. Very rude staff, definitely wont be returning.

Fish & Chips are my absolute favourite and this chip shop is the best I’ve had, There are chip shops in the area that are nearly as good (Marks in Southwold & Grosvenor Fish Bar in Norwich), but Beccles fish bar is consistently fantastic, the fish is always perfectly cooked, chips are on point, crispies are essential! And the sausages are from Seppings a local butchers which are really good battered or otherwise, curry sauce, peas, all good. My 50th birthday coming up, given the choice, this is where my birthday dinner will be coming from.

Not the best, not the worst. Only used here, as The Cod House was closed (not that the Cod House is much better). Nothing special, although the cod was reasonably cooked.

I used to love this place, and bought my fish and chips evety Friday Then one day i bought 3 haddock and chips, one of which my son was eating and realised it was off. I went back and spoke privately to the girl serving and explained that one fish was off. The owner was called and he started shouting at me saying there was no way the fish was off because it had been delivered the previous day. All i wanted was an apology and a fresh fish, but his attitude and behaviour put me off ever going there again. Needless to say he lost a good customer.

Arguably the best representation of Fish and Chips in East Anglia, possibly the UK. Fish always tastes super fresh, chips are cooked to perfection and the sausages from the local butcher are to die for. This place has become part of a ritual for every time we visit Beccles!!!

We popped in last night after a drink 2 lovely girls very welcoming pasty and chips and fish and chips wrapped up in a way we could eat them on our way back to the boat really enjoyed them made a change from eating in a restaurant but fish and chips always taste better from the bag well done to the cooks and team would go again.

Beccles fish bar is by far the best chippy in England that I’ve ever had on taste alone chips always cooked lush 100% definitely do the best sausages out of any that I’ve been to it’s a shame other chippy’s don’t good quality instead of the cheap budget ones .. I’ve been eating from this chippy since I was a child I no it’s changed ownership but the quality in taste has never gone love it how it’s only got 20 odd reviews is crazy. Can’t praise it enough DELICIOUS and as I truck driver been all over trying chip’s nothing comes close to this one
