Really Enjoyed our food! We had 2 Afternoon tea stands and it was even available in a gluten free range which was great for my sister in laws needs. All of the food and cakes were really tasty. My nana ordered jacket potato cheese and beans and she devoured it! The cakes are delicious. The view of the river is really nice out the window as you eat and drink. Staff very friendly! Thankyou!

Very disappointed with the slow service. After asking to order twice, five drinks finally arrived at different times, followed by desserts again at different times and the kids brownies were not even brought. The staff member asked us if everything was ok and when told not really, she said "sorry, it's a bit chaotic". There were only four tables occupied and the three ladies at another table complained they had been waiting 30 minutes for their orders. A shame they didn't take the complaints on board.

Extremely long wait to be served. Had to ask twice to order & after second time, the girl went to serve people who had been waiting 20 minutes just to place their order, so we left. On previous visits found food okay but overpriced & the service is slow & staff abit rude & disinterested. I won't bother trying here again.

I visited today with my friend and our visit was disappointing. We ordered drinks alongside the food, my drink never arrived. When pointing this out and the end of the meal there were no apologies just shrugged shoulders. I ordered a Brie and bacon panini and made a point twice of asking for extra crispy bacon. We ordered some children’s platters and my friend also ordered a panini. The service was extremely slow maybe four other tables in, the kids were getting restless and when asking where our food was the response was “it’ll be two minutes” no apologies - bit of a cold response. At over £6 for a panini I was very disappointed to see my panini had arrived with only one slice of uncrispy bacon. We left feeling like we had not got value for money and will not be returning any time soon.

I visited the cafe whilst on a charity bike ride, the lady that served me started conversation and I informed her that I was taking part, she then kindly bought a slice of cake and coffee, but more importantly she also donated towards the charity. My husband & I were given afternoon tea for 2 as a wedding gift.We enjoyed it except for the fact we never got asked what kind of bread we’d like our sandwiches made from.We both hate seeded brown bread & the majority of the sandwiches were made of this bread. For us that really spoilt what would have been an excellent tea.Maybe it would be an advantage to maybe ask people before booking their preferences in choice of bread.Apart from that it was most enjoyable.

Popped in for breakfast whilst cycling recently. We were greeted with a smile by the lovely staff. We were lucky enough to be seated next to the window. What a great view of the river. I opted for the full English, which was absolutely great. My friend went for scrambled eggs with poached salmon on toast equally lovely. We were served tea in vintage tea pots and China cups and saucers, beautiful. We will definitely return again. Thank you😊

I will start this review, by saying that the Staff are lovely. The coffee and tea is good. Called today for breakfast. My wife asked for a well done bacon sandwich. When it came, the bacon wasn't well done. It was cut into quarters with salad and crisps......weird. I asked for the full breakfast, with soft scrambled eggs. When it came, the eggs had obviously been microwaved, and were cold. The bacon was barely cooked, with watery white slime on it. The sausages were not very well cooked. The beans were cold and the chopped fresh tomatoes were strange. The whole breakfast was cold. We left all of it. I wouldn't revisit....very poor.

As a local resident, I'd walked past the Tearooms a few times and made a mental note to visit at some point. I decided to pop in recently, on a Saturday morning, shortly after it had opened at 10am. The staff were all friendly and pleasant, and the decor was cosy, with the crockery reminding me of being at my nans - not a bad thing! I'd certainly recommend the tasty food and drink - the brie and bacon panni was particularly yum! My only slight concern was that, despite being quiet, the service was rather slow.

Booked the gentlemans afternoon tea for 4 people for mum's birthday. We had booked for 2pm so.not too busy sat by the window overlooking the river which was pleasant. When taking our order we advised the staff that one of our party cannot eat cheese or chocolat. This was no problem at all and provided alternate sandwiches and cakes. There was more than plenty of food serves on lovely tiered cages so much so we brought some home with us. We had as much tea and coffee as we wanted. The staff were extrely friendly and attentive Would definitely return and recommend to others

My partner and I wanted to head out for a nice coffee and light lunch so decided on this place on recomendation but I must say we were extremely disappointed. First impressions, the venue was pleasant but in need on a freshen up. No sooner had we sat down the waitress was at our table wanting to take our order but we hadn't even looked at the menu, we asked for some time but was then left and had to ask to order. We both opted for coffee, which was good although one of the teaspoons that it was served with had a stain on it as if it hadn't been cleaned. The menu was basic but we settled on sandwiches. My partner had a ham salad and found her bread was soggy and I opted for cheese and chutney which was nice but the cheese was in big chunks and not dispersed evenly so some bits were just bread. The salad was clearly not fresh and the cucumber had gone soft and discoloured which put me off the salad completely. Definitely would not classify as a tea room, I have eaten at better cafes in Castleford.

Visited for the first time today to celebrate with family . Food was delicious, less sarnies and a lit more of a selection of savoury would have made it top notch … quiche or pie please 😂 Service was fine but we had to return some items to be cleaned , fingerprints & lipstick not good but was sorted quickly although the member of staff dealing with us initially could do with some customer service training 😳 the overall experience was nice and we would return .

Visited as a family of 4, we ordered 1 panini, 1 sandwich, 1 jacket potato and one child’s breakfast 3 cokes and a coffee. Lots of things sold out. Service slow despite many staff. Panini came with the incorrect filling (ordered cheese and tomato and came as cheese and tuna) it took 20 minutes to correct and when it came they must have run out of panini rolls as it came as a brown roll put in panini press with a little cheese and 1 cherry tomato in it!!!! Jacket potato was clearly warmed up and slimy. Sandwich and childs breakfast were very basic, edible but that’s the best we could say.We asked for the bill and it was over £30!!!! Much much better and more reasonable places to go locally, we won’t be returning and would advise strongly to avoid!

The setting here is lovely with a view of the canal . The staff were friendly however not equipped to host a large party. This was booked well in advance and numbers given . They didn’t have enough staff and really struggled especially with providing the basics like a cup of tea! We were waiting a long time for a drink , which should have been served before the food or at least the same time. The tea cups were that small, that the tea was drank in two mouthfuls and so began the waiting again. Teapots should have been provided for everyone to help themselves .The finger sandwiches were nice and a good variety, served with a side salad and a few crisps .The cakes weren’t anything special ,in-fact some were very dry and everything had butter cream with it . Not great if you don’t like butter cream. The fruit scones came ready assembled with jam and cream . So again not everyone’s taste . They should could separately for individual taste. I won’t have afternoon tea there again, but would call in for a drink and sandwich provided it’s not busy .

Having always enjoyed our visits to the tearoom, we were very disappointed this time we.We both ordered a bacon sandwich which we requested the bacon to be crispy and two hot drinks Our drinks arrived straight away which was good. But then we were sat waiting for our sandwichesThere were to couples at either side of us having breakfasts and I noticed they both had left their sausagesOne couple complained to the waitress that the sausages were still frozen in the middle and asked if they could have some more bacon instead which they unfortunately didn’t receiveThey complained again which the waitress and apologised and knocked some money of their billWhen our sandwiches finally arrived we had finished our drinksThe presentation of the sandwiches looked nice, but it was just like eating a ham sandwich. The bacon was cold and softI complained to the waitress who offered to make us some more sandwiches but by then we had lost all confidence that the sandwiches would be how we would like them the waitress knocked the price of our drinks off for us been disappointed with the food it’s a real shame that the standard of the food as dropped as that we won’t be visiting again.

Booked a table of 4 for a special afternoon tea birthday treat. The tea room was very busy with both reserved and walk in customers. Waited 45 minutes before anyone acknowledged us sitting at the empty table. When asked how much longer our booking would take apparently it was late due to our special order of cheese and egg sandwiches!!!!??? Two teapots of tea was brought out half an hour before our food therefore the remainder we had left was cold. The afternoon tea was absolutely rubbish the quality of sandwiches and cakes were of poor quality:everything bought in albeit the scone. No cutlery was provided had to get up yet again and grab our own.To add further insult they added an extra pot of tea to the bill that we requested to drink once our food arrived. Our special outing was ruined by poor quality food and customer service. Will never visit again, such a let down.

We were visiting Castleford with friends and came across Queen's Mill Tea Room almost by accident - as it popped up on Google Maps. Although the initial external appearance from the road is slightly 'industrial' (not surprising given the Mill heritage!), it proved to be a superb tea room. Despite them having birthday parties in, we were accommodated and quickly served; absolutely delicious scones - and with clotted cream too!We returned the following day for a soup and crusty bread lunch with a slice of homemade cake to follow. All delicious again. If you get the chance, aim for a table with a view over the river, but to be honest, the tea and cakes were good enough even if you don't get the view!

The staff are friendly and the food is good, everything looks fresh and appetising. Plently of car parking and outdoor seating. The toilets and the corridor up to them could do with a bit of paint and sprucing up. And some of the tables could do with moving slightly to allow a bit more space between seats. But other than that a fantastic venue! Would definitely recommend!

This place is a good effort at the chintzy, shabby chic, I think. It is hampered by the Aire Street setting as its such a bust road, so if you want to sit at the outdoor tables you have the traffic noise and fumes to contend with. The mill itself is a significant piece of local history, but sadly a quite ugly one, peering down at you while you enjoy afternoon tea. So the immediate surroundings work against this establishment, to an extent. I like the interior, staff were helpful and talkative. I'll certainly go back.

Me & my boyfriend visited for lunch, so disappointed from the moment we walked in! The decor was tasteless, and old fashioned. Other local tearooms/cafes are very classy and tasteful, such as Twisted Tree or Bake My Day. The waitress came over and said ‘can I start you out with some drinks’ naturally we ordered, she then responded with ‘oh so are you not wanting any food’?! I tried to order a jacket potato with beans & cheese, to be told they don’t have jackets on a Tuesday because they close on a Wednesday so it’s simply what ever is left. As an alternative I ordered a panini, my partner ordered a small stone-baked pizza. It took 25mins to reach our table, my panini was burnt to a crisp, and my partners pizza was drenched in oil! Nobody came to ask how our food was or if we required more drinks. I had to approach the kitchen area in order to pay, and when doing so the waitresses were simply sat eating lunch (it was 1:30pm)I will never return and would recommend nobody tries this place!

Disappointed to say the least, have left this review from previous visit to see if things had improved but alas no they hadn't. We called in today for a small lunch to put us on until my evening birthday tea. Having order chicken ceased salad wraps we waited an hour for them to appear, although the staff were apologetic and gave us a free drink it did not justify an hours wait for what was basically a sandwich. The food was tasteless and accompanied by crisps, tiny side salad and a strawberry that looked like it was on its last legs. In fairness to the two staff that were working they had to do everything, take orders, prepare the food, clear tables, wash up by hand and take the money. I am sure problems could be solved by employing more staff as this was a quiet day when we were there. I will not be returning.

Been waiting to come here for ages, cycled down from Normanton, sat outside in the sun. Ordered afternoon tea and drinks, drinks arrived....then we waited and waited and waited some more........drinks gone....one other couple asked why the wait, soon they were told so we expected ours soon. Nope.....after about 45 mins we enquired inside where our food was "what food" was the reply...oh come on there was only one other order and the lady who took our order came and sat by our empty table, to join coincidentally, another staff member(we assume he worked as he did clear a table to sit at) who had decided to have a cig on the table next to us! We told them to leave the order we we're leaving. To be honest we felt unsure as soon as we arrived, tables unset and not clean , no spoon to stir coffee, tables cleared but not wiped, staff smoking at customer tables. I always think a company can be judged by how it deals with failure, we left disappointed and annoyed, I think they should have done more to ensure that was not the case. In balance they didn't charge for the drinks however I can't see us returning after today.

Very friendly staff, wide selection menue we plumped for a club sandwitch and a plowman's lunch. Excellent quality and massive portions. A definate keeper in my sat nav. Highly recommended.

This little place is next to what was Allisons flour Mill on Aire Street. Be careful as you could miss it. We went along with friends in the evening. The tea rooms managed only just, to squeeze 30 people into it. We had to order what we were having beforehand and book a time. The tea rooms are very quaint but what makes this place are the people who run it, a husband and wife team. Very, very helpful and friendly. The tables had table cloths on them and all was very nice. However one group of around ten were in their 30's and rather noisy so not altogether my cup of tea, being an oldy. The drinks were inexpensive a bottle of wine £15. The food was fine and not at all over priced. Would I go again? Yes I would but they are expanding shortly and I may wait until that is all complete.

I planned afternoon tea for my parents 40th anniversary On the day we called down with balloons banners, cake, and flowers to decorate the area up. Friends came down while my husband went to collect my parents. We sat at the entrance and once they walked in there saw who was sat there it was amazing! The staff were so helpful in organising this with us. The food was fantastic as we had afternoon teas and pizza for the kids. A great atmosphere in a great place.

Came here for an afternoon lunch child free. It was cute and cosy inside with bunting, fairy lights and vintage crockery. We both ate from the specials board and had a fabulous lunch. Prices were around £7/8 for lunch or afternoon tea looked lovely £11.Not much room for children or prams but would definitely recommend.

Looking for a suitable local venue for an afternoon tea to celebrate my father in law's 88th birthday. We found this on Trip Advisor right on our doorstep and certainly were not disappointed. We were able to book (for 9) in advance and have tables reserved. The staff were all very welcoming and good hosts and the whole place is decorated in a charming way. We ordered afternoon teas for everyone, there is a full range of hot and cold drinks, both soft and alcoholic and they catered for individuals food preferences. Drinks came first followed shortly after by each of our food served on a 3 tier stand. These contained a mix of crust-less sandwich quarters with rocket and mixed salad dressing, a selection of cakes with the obligatory fruit cake and mature cheddar cheese, topped off with a scone, clotted cream and jam and all of the food is homemade. To top off the celebration and a surprise to the whole party all of the staff came out with a large slice of cake and candle and sang happy birthday, to which we all joined in. Recommended and you will be doing your bit to support this enterprise from the Castleford Heritage Trust.

On a day trip from yeadon to Castleford.Never been to Castleford before and when we were in the Castleford museum we were told about the Queens mill tea rooms, otherwise we would not have known it was there. We can be unlucky eating out, so we hoped for the best.Soup of the day was tomato and husband ordered that and it was tomato and basil. It came with croutons and 4 chunks of lovely fresh baguette and a nice large portion of butter.Glad it wasn't a tiny wrapped butter which goes nowhere.I ordered a sausage sandwich in white bread. It came as 4 or was it 5? triangular sandwiches in triple bread. They were lovely and different. Also on the plate was crisps, salad, coleslaw separate ( I don't like it, so separate is good) and good that the salad did not have balsamic vinegar poured over it, as I don't like that either. We ordered 1 tea and we were brought 2 China teacups, which was nice as we only ordered 1 tea.Meant we didn't have to share 1 teacup. There was loads of tea and we were asked if we needed more hot water but we didn't.There was a stray tea leaf in my empty cup and also my husband's empty cup when they were brought. Which we had to remove. But we left full and happy. Will visit again if in castleford.

Had lunch and afternoon tea & cakes, what a surprise! Food was near excellent, had a mix of chicken & chirzo kebab and salmon & prawn kebab with salad for lunch which was cooked to perfection. Stayed for afternoon tea and was amazed by variety and quality of home cooked cakes, along with delicious sandwiches. If you are in the area well worth popping in!!

Food was nice, large portions. The coffee however was very disappointing. We ordered Cappuccino and got a large cup of warm milk with some froth on top. The majority of the milk had no texture what so ever. Surprised they were open on a bank holiday let alone that I could order from the breakfast menu at 12 O'clock. Perhaps tea and cake is what they are good at but I would advise not ordering a coffee.

Had a lovely Afternoon Tea for my 50th birthday with close family and it was a lovely afternoon. The food is always fresh and tasty and the tea lovely and hot served in quaint miss matched cups and saucers. The staff and owner are lovely and sing Happy Birthday before your party leaves. Would highly recommend. The only suggestion having been for Afternoon Tea before is maybe a rotating selection of desserts so that you have a chance of a slight variation when you visit..but genuinely well worth a trip.

We found this place to be a lovely place to eat lunch. Quaint decor, nice music, really great food that was presented well. We're planning on taking the same route home to come back again. If you live close enough please try it! We paid £21 for a two course lunch for two with a huge pot of quality tea. Thank you

I had Afternoon Tea here, with my daughter, a couple of weeks ago. I honestly could not fault it. We were given a choice of sandwiches which were then freshly made. There was so much food we had separate cake stands. The Tea was also unlimited, something you don't often get with Afternoon Tea! All this for only £10.95 each.

When Queens Mill closed, a lot of people held their breathe and wondered what would happen to this local landmark. The mill, best known as Allinson's is a well known stone ground flourmill and it's future looked bleak. A number of people were determined to preserve the mill as a heritage project for future generations, To the side of the mill is the rather more modern and functional looking office block. The space has been turned into a rather nice tearoom, in fact it seems almost like being in someone's homeOn arrival we were met by a rather polite and very friendly lady who settled us at a table and let us have a good look at the menu before taking our order. The menu is varied without trying to overdo the number of choices and there are a number of daily special on the board. There is also a selection of breakfast and lunch items. The food and drinks arrived fairly quickly and we were well impressed. The food was fresh and tasty and all freshly prepared, no sandwiches in plastic wrappers here! They also do a traditional afternoon tea which is quite charming, and quite filling. You can also get a glass of wine if you wish,The crockery was of a domestic variety and not the more commercial/industrial variety that you usually find. This was my first visit but it won't be my last. I would recommend giving it a try and don't be put off by the look from the outside as it's very different inside. Very charming

My daughter and I had afternoon tea here today. We were greeted pleasantly, seated quickly and served courteously. There was a good range of freshly made sandwiches (I particularly enjoyed the prawn; my daughter liked the brie and grape.), a tasty brownie and a still-warm scone. The shortbread tasted home made, but sadly the small pieces of lemon drizzle cake and fruit cake were clearly shop bought. This was particularly disappointing as there were some amazing looking homemade cakes on display. To be fair, the menu made it clear that fruit cake and lemon drizzle cake would be served, but I did expect the tearoom's own cakes.

My sister, her boyfriend and I visited here while in Castleford yesterday afternoon and we thought it was well worth going to. My sister and I had chicken Caesar salad sandwiches apart from her boyfriend who had a different sandwich and we also shared a platter of cheese, grapes and pork pie together. Furthermore, the staff were friendly and even knew me from the last couple of times I visited with my dad! In conclusion, I recommend these tea rooms if you are looking for somewhere nice to go to on an afternoon out like us.

Had lunch at this fabulous little tea room as part of a visit to the mill open day and we highly recommended it. Wife and daughter enjoyed sandwiches and I loved the ploughman's lunch. A gorgeous pot of tea served in a quirky collection of unmatched crockery, and the free top-up hit the spot when some lovely home made cakes finished off our meal. Ignore what you might read about the tight accommodation and speed of service and just settle in for a leisurely lunch in a great little location! Faultless, even on its busiest days.

Me, my mum and brother are visiting here more and more often as it is so lovely. From the outside, I suppose you wouldn't think much of the place now the mill has shut down. The food is of an excellent quality and everything is made from scratch. All members of staff are more than happy to help and make anything to your needs. Everything is fresh produce, some of this being made on the premises. Their baking is a must try, and is beautiful. Last time I visited I had a Brie and caramelised red onion pizza which was lovely- the pizza dough was fresh and cooked to perfection. I have never had afternoon tea there, but it always looks fantastic. For £10 each, you really cannot go wrong, and size of it is huge and would definitely fill two people! The place is a little hidden gem and I will continue to visit. The staff have made the place a lovely place to visit for all ages, and is perfect to drop in for lunch. The place is so cheap, and is seriously underpriced for how good the quality is. Probably my favourite tea room ever.. It beats Betty's out of the water!

A very dated place, but a great place if you like listening to the staff bitch about homeless people and how the police don’t do anything about them. “Go get a bloody job, and work like I’ve had to do all my life”. All whilst sitting in the customers dining area! Now don’t get me wrong, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but there is a time and place, and this wasn’t it. Go to jollies or the last bank over the road. Coffee was nice though.

Best caramel latte's in the area, food is very fresh and extremely tasty. My favourite thing about The Vie is the staff and the owner, they are excellent! 😍 Just returned home after the evening bistro, and everything was amazing! The food was delicious, the drinks were excellent but as always the staff were the best part of the experience. 💯 % 🔥 If you haven't been yet, you're missing out! 😁😊👍🍰☕

I am more than happy to sing the praises of this consumately professional Castleford venue. This place is old school and right up my street. I've only just become a regular but for me there is nowhere else when I'm in Castleford. The whole place is put together with love and it must have taken quite some time. It's a real homely 60's throwback and none the worse for that. No wifi and cash only and that is how it should be. Long may it continue. I never had a bad coffee/tea/grub there yet. The staff are perfectly ok. The staff are focused and professional so don't engage them in conversation when they are busy. Easy as that. This cafe has the air of an American diner about it and it's like being on route 66 (yes I have been there). I could easily imagine KC's with a lovely old Wurlitzer juke box in there and I promise when I win the lottery I will buy them one. They provide a good local service with CD/DVD sales for a local charity and deals for the bus crews in the station next door. 10/10 for community values. As the faceless corporates destroy more and more high streets places like KC's are gold dust and should be fully supported. One minor request please. A little more variety in the otherwise superb music. Maybe the Shadows? All the best then from Graham (The cockney in Aussie bush hat). Keep doing what you're doing ladies. Simply the best and happy birthday to schhh...you know who. Best Respects to all.
