Queens Fish & Chips in North West Leicestershire

Having seen Queens numerous times while in the Ibstock area we decided to take the dive and try it. Store was very clean, and well presented. Service was quick and staff were polite and friendly. We opted to eat in and were invited to take a seat and food would be brought over to us in a few minutes when ready. The food was presented wrapped in paper, in typical take away fashion, with wooden disposable knife and forks. For a takeaway this is fine, however when eating in seems somewhat cheap. The fish was hot and freshly cooked and the batter was crisp on the outside but severely under seasoned lacking any sort of flavour. The fish was flakey and cooked well, however was sorely let down by the batter. The chips tasted like they'd been stood for quite some time, or even possibly reheated from earlier in the day. The gravy and curry sauces were typical chip shop quality. One of our party ordered nuggets which arrived freshly cooked but also saturated in oil. Service was great and cannot fault the staff in any respect for that aspect of the experience All in all Queens is a lovely looking takeaway/eatery that's let down somewhat by its underwhelming food.

As always...delicious, well cooked food. The portions here are incredibly generous and 1 small fish and chips, 1 small battered sausage and chips, and 1 mixed kebab and chips was more than enough for 4 of us. The team are always friendly as well - absolutely nothing but positive things to say about Queens. Thanks!

Started using this fish and chips shop after Vinny's changed hands. I've had battered sausage, chips and curry sauce a few times now (alongside some battered pigs in blankets) and each time the food has been well cooked and with generous portions. I'd highly recommend this fish and chip shop.

Best place in town, top guys. Highly recommend.

So disappointed, is second time when we try give it chance for queens and again went all wrong. Expensive and portions small. Large back chips looks like just medium and costs something like £5.50 now 😳 sorry but we are going to old Vinnis and now Ibstock fish, bar and grill nico.

£5.50 for a large bag of chips that would pass for a small at other chip shops in the area? Beyond a joke. Been customers on and off for a few years now. Tonight will be the last. Portions and value used to be great. Now portions are tiny and customer service isn’t even as good as it was.

The best chicken nan kebab around

Myself and my partner went to Queens Fish Bar tonight, and what a performance! We ordered 3 Fish & Chips, 2 pots of curry sauce and 2 pots of mushy peas, which all come to £48 WHAT A RIP OFF! The batter of the fish was hard, and almost stale tasting. My chips had various black dots on them. And overall the food wasn’t very warm at all. We had queried the price as we seemed this was a bit extortionate for what we had ordered, and the manager replied “what’s the problem?” I for sure will not be returning again, I’d rather save my time and money, towards some decent Fish&Chips and somewhere that has better customer service!!!

Ordered my food. Was a short wait whilst fish was cooked. Took a short drive home. Got home, chips were barely lukewarm, fish was undercooked with soggy and in places still nearly raw batter. Very poor.

Had some take away fish and chips and not bad at all - the chips were a little limp but overall decent enough food at an average price point.

The fish and chips are lovely, the batter is not too thick and the fish is nice and thick. Mushy peas are nice too. It's well worth a visit. The service is good too and the staff are friendly, and it's spotless.

Can’t go wrong. Cooked fresh, superb quality and portion. Great value, would recommend!

Just picked up 3x sausage and a med chips. Cost just under £11. The chips look like they're leftovers recooked. They're also chewy and not nice tasting. Having to smother in sauce to take the taste away. Very disappointed as last time we went (around 5month ago) it was lovely. Won't be returning.

Working in the area, we used the CoOp and found this chippy right next door. Plenty of parking. You must try the Potato fritters, good portions and not greasy.

First visit today to get lunch. Sad to say I won't be in a hurry to return. Spent more time picking black bits out of the chips than actually eating any. Really poor quality.

We as a family really enjoy the food from this chip shop. The mixed keebabs and chips in the box are good value for money. Portions are good and has plenty of selection.

Usually great gluten free fish and chips, not so last night, 29th April. Fish more like a piece of frozen cod. Batter not cooked and peas tasted very odd as if they were fermenting. Very disappointed

Queens fish and chips at the Queen's prices! Nearly £8 for sausage chips and curry!! There's a chippy round the corner which is over £3 cheaper! I've only used this cos it's Sunday and nowhere else open! Disgraceful

Ordered 3 pieces of plain fried chicken only to get overcooked southern fried chicken, it was inedible also ordered a beef and onion pasty only to get a burnt rubbery cheese n onion pasty that smelt of disinfectant this is about the fourth time I have received the wrong order which has been inedible I would not use this place again the young guy is always getting the order wrong and when you live a distance away it is not always possible to take food back I will be reporting this to environmental health

Staff were really helpful and cooked gluten free alternatives fresh for my son. Amazing food great atmosphere. Just awesome.

Lovely food, warm and great choice. Good service and no wait. Great that it's one of the only local chip shops open on a Sunday. Most food cooked to order so some wait time but expect a better quality of food. Only downfall is that it's a little more pricey than other chip chops.

Hi can i just say you need to alter the opening times on here! It says 'OPEN' when you aren't as I've just gone to come in and door was shut and on the door its saying 4.30 !! Fantastic ! Always Hot and portions are amazing . The fish is to die for , white and soft and the batter lovely ! Staff very friendly ! Will always get my fish & chips from here 😋

Chips and fish good quality and big portion. I was a bit shocked at the charge of 30p for ketchup. In all my years visiting fish and chip shops this must be the first time I've been charged and its not exactly cheap, although they do give an ample portion. I don't expect businesses to give anything for 'free' but I'd say for a premium priced fish and chips, the price should include sauce. I will visit again but will bring my own ketchup sachets. They do offer gluten free options which is great news for people like me 😔

Terrible customer service. Talk over you and call you a liar when you are just trying to exchange your food. Had a piece of fish from there, The gluten free batter has reacted and tasted like bleach. When complained they called me back and were abusive. disgusting, Will never go there again. EVER!!!! Even the cat wouldn`t eat it!!! I also had something that was supposed to resemble a pasty. it looked and smelled disgusting. I threw it in the bi. I did not phone them and complain after what happened the last time. So I just stopped wasting money here. I had hoped they had improved but it seems they got worse. Shame really.

My partner is celiac and missed her fish and chips for several years before finding Queens, she is also very cautious regarding possible cross contamination but has no fears here as everything is prepared and cooked totally separately by a team that knows exactly what their doing. So thank you 😊

The Gluten free options are superb...the fish was fluffy and the Batter was Awsome..the chips are to die for!!

Kebab made for a king love this place

I went in on a Sunday afternoon after the family wanted fish and chips. Spent £33.95 on two fish and chips and two kebabs. I asked a staff member two cook me two fresh fish they cooked me the one, and gave the other that been sitting for awhile. The cod wasn't fresh, it smelt rather funny. It was too oily and greasy for my liking. And my order went in the bin shortly after trying to eat it. The chips were cold by the time I'd driven home. The fish and chip shop is very different to one they have in Lichfield, that place is rather good.

Found this place accidentally, It's been my regular chippy ever since, spotless clean, friendly staff, great tasting food. Tho I do think the portions may be a little generous.

Visited Queens as they cater for Gluten-free every day of we tried it on a Friday, the wife had GF Scampi n Chips n mushy peas I had the GF cod. It was all very good freshly cooked separate GF menu and friers and the place itself is spotless you can also eat in. Would recommend.

First time buying from here. The fish was very tasty as was the chips, very fresh and generous portions, will definitely go here again. The shop was also very clean and well presented

Inedible food, ordered chicken kebab meat & chips . Chicken looked green, chips mixture of green/black chips and a lot of burnt scrappy bits.phoned the restaurant to explain and was told to return the food for a refund.. when taking the owner he was very rude and refusing to accept any responsibility of the quality of the food and had a very aggressive manor.. No apologizes or willing to even to inspect the food. Stay clear of this take away

The first time we used this place, the chips were a bit meh. Second time around - wow! A bit of a wait, but all food had to be cooked from fresh. The fish was absolutely amazing - no strong fishy taste like previous chip shops. Hope it stays that way, because it was delicious! Chips were also great. Super impressed. Definitely coming back soon.

Best I’ve found in the midlands. The service is prompt and friendly. I just order 5 mins before to get my Gluten free food, made just for me.

This chips shop is very good for Gluten free food. All reasonable priced, hot food, good service and prompt. All good came in boxes, full size GF fish, chips & curry. I had Donna meat and chips (perfect) Kids was happy. We would recommend here for good food. Need to look at delivery’s to local areas Inc Coalville Whitwick & Ashby. Thanks.

After our meal plans were changed we headed to our go to fish and chip shop as we needed food. Clean, covid aware establishment with good quality food at good prices. Job done.

Just had cod and chips take away and have to say it's probably the worst piece of fish I can remember having. The batter was so thick and hard and the fish inside was tough to say the least. Not flaky like you would expect from freshly cooked cod. I suspect that because I was an early evening customer, I ended up with a piece of fish that had been sat there since the lunchtime session. Friendly staff, quality fish and chips

In the past the was an amazing fish and chips, today's was shocking. The fish was terrible dont think I've ever had a fish and chips and thrown it in the bin.

Was passing here today so got fish,chips & curry takeaway. Had to wait a little while, but I don't mind that as I'd rather have freshly cooked food anyway. Food was very nice, staff were pleasant, would use again.

Nipped in this lunch and these are the nicest chips, fishcake and mushy peas I have had in ages.

I never usually order a chicken kebab from anywhere, because its usually so chevy. The chicken kebabs from here are absolutley outstanding!! So flavoursome so juicy and no chevy bits what so ever. I don't go anywhere else now. Absolutley outstanding *****

Ordered 4 mixed meat and chips and was eating half way through to find a dark black curly hair put my whole family off absolutely disgusting rang them and they said no making out I was lying would have given zero stars never again

Expensive for what you get they dont understand english didnt get chips on there own, cash only what's that bout so they can pocket more money wont be going again

Food, yeah average, ok I guess. Attitude of staff and customer relations absolutely appauling. I will Never be stepping foot in there again. Disgraceful treatment from the so called manager just because I asked for the salad separate. My god how much trouble was that? Apparently it was an inconvenience and would cost more if I ever asked for it again. Ok but dont lecture me for 5 minutes infront of a full shop! Just mention it's going to cost more on ordering not when you slam the order on the counter at me and make me feel like I'm a criminal robbing you!

Had some chips from there and was very disappointed. They were only lukewarm and a fair proportion of them were old and hard. This is the second time I have bought food from there, the first time was fish and chips which I didn't think much of so I should have learnt my lesson. Also, they should make it clear when entering that it is cash only, as I was brusquely told when I went to pay by card. Won't be returning.

August, visited on a Friday evening when nobody was in the shop and stood for almost 10mins, being ignored by two free staff and the lady on the till. Decided to try their services again for a second chance this evening, only to be told that it was cash only and then the lady forgot us, leaving us standing until we told them that we'd been standing for almost half an hour! My husband has been in when a member of the staff was sat on the food counter at the back fiddling on his phone too. Dreadful.

If you could give zero stars thats what they'd of been given, a piece of chicken so overcooked it was hard and nasty. Chips looked and tasted overcooked, dry or as if they'd been kept warm for a long time, then the crust on my steak & kidney pie which was really dry and like cardboard!! What more can I say it was a waste if money as lots of it was left because it wasn't edible

Reasonable prices and very tasty

Awful. Threw food away. Bought haddock & cod. First bite of the haddock & we both had to spit it out- totally rancid & off, with a cheesy fishy smell. Thrown in bin straight away. No COVID precautions in shop.
