Went to see a local band playing at this pub. A very small place, but a very lively atmosphere. Staff are super friendly and despite it's reputation is actually a very safe pub and a really good night out. Drinks are a good price and everything was perfect on our visit.

Fantastic choice of really good beers from al over including lots of Belgium beers both draught and bottled and the owner and staff know what they are talking about. Then you get music thrown in as well, sometimes a DJ or live bands of all styles. Whats not to like.

Such a nice pub with a really good selection of beers……some very strong so be warned. Andy and the other barman whose name I forget so I’ll call him Diego and hope he doesn’t mind were really friendly. Good beer, friendly staff and crowd, live music all added up to a great evening.

The cosiest, most charming, friendly pub in Colchester. Exquisite Belgian beers as well as lovely local things on tap. Gorgeous old building, cosy booths, great music. Huge recommend for a traditional intimate community pub. Bonus points for the ‘bollocks to brexit’ stickers 😅

A rare and extensive selection of beers, ciders and spirits; at once accesible and specialist, and at a very inclusive price. A homely and eclectic décor. Warm and knowledgeable service. I have spent many a special evening here and I plan to spend many more. This place is everything a pib should be, and everything 90% of pubs nowadays aren't. A special, special place.

Ignore the outside of the building - an estate agent would say it is 'in need of some improvement'. The inside is mostly poorly lit and a little worn ... in other words, bags of character and a perfect contrast to the cookie-cutter chain pubs which infest most high streets. The character continues with the beer (a good selection of Belgian lagers and interesting ciders) and the staff who are friendly, engaging and knowledgeable. The music is eclectic although I have yet to sample a music event. If you're tired of shopping this weekend, I recommend popping in and trying the mulled cider or the chocolate-flavoured beer. We did and ended up staying for three hours!

First time in here and popped in for a quick beer after a meal out. To say this is quirky is a little of an understatement. I don't think any two chair are the same and the side booths are snug and the seats very high off the ground. That's not a bad thing, its nice to not have the regimented rows of tables and chairs etc. There was also a stack of vinyls on some shelves that you could play, long time since i have seen Gary Numans Pleasure Principle in Vinyl !! The beer if a very eclectic mix with a lot of belgian and european beers. This is GOOD but they are a little pricey. 4 small beers were £16, but then again 2 of them were a specialist Norwegian Stout at over 10% strength. The barman was friendly and clearly knew his beer and offered great recommendations. I will be back when I need something different and tasty rather than a run of the mill beer.

....but that makes it all the better. Its not polished up and full of the 'charms' of a chain and it makes a good contrast with the nearby Three Wise Monkeys. The choice of beers on offer is varied and some are a delight to drink. We happened to venture in when a pretty decent DJ was playing a most agreeable 90s set. Will certainly go again.

I don't visit Colchester often enough to have been to every pub, but I have a few friends in the area so I am there a few times a year and have been to quite a few of the pubs and bars in the area. Of all the ones I have been to, Queen Street Brewhouse easily blows the rest of the competition out of the water. It was recommended by the friends I have locally as a great place for either a quiet drink or a sociable night out; the first thing I noticed when going through the doors was the cosy wooden decoration reminiscent of some of the true ale houses I have visited in the past few years. The second thing I noticed was the absolutely huge beer range, from real ales to more exotic Belgian craft beers.

How the mighty have fallen. When the Brew House opened it was like a breath of fresh air in Colchester, a great selection of real ales and Belgian brews on tap. One of the best bars in town. Yesterday, no Belgian beers at all on tap, all were off, and a poor choice of real ales. So disappointing.Bar staff were none too pleasant either, ignoring our thank yous and goodbyes when we left. Shan't be going back in a hurry. Shame.

The Queen Street Brewhouse has become one of my favourite bars in Colchester, and is the only bar in Colchester where you can get such an extensive range of Belgian beers, which I adore, but they also have some real ciders, eclectic spirits and craft beers too! All the bar staff are incredibly helpful if you're unsure what to try, and they regularly hold a whole range of events like fill screenings, beach parties (complete with sand,) and live music. There's also a vinyl record player that you can play music in too.If you're after a bar that's different from the norm, but warm, welcoming and with great drinks, look no further than the Brewhouse!

We love the Brewhouse and I look forward to a Framboise or two when in town. It's a quirky place unlike any other bar in the area and that's why we like it. When we visit I like to gaze over the beautiful French bar that strides the length of the historic building to ponder the endless possibilities the contents of the bottles, boxes and beer taps offer. Suddenly I'm transported back to how I used to feel as a child at the sweetshop, carefully considering which jar to choose from for my pocket money treat. It's authentic and warm as are its customers, it's regular performers (including Gareth off the local news) and its Canadian owner whose passion for wonderful beers knows no bounds. And I nearly forgot, you can play a vinyl too; you know, one of those flat, black things.

Judging by the clientele of bearded floppy hairstyles and velvet jackets this place appeals to trendy geography teacher types. Good but loud music coming for a spaced out DJ at the back. Beer was very nice with an interesting selection. One foreign beer had a picture of what looks like Peter Sutcliff. I'm sure the brewery have no idea. Overall quirky, cosy and different. Good vibe.

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our few hours spent there on Saturday night. Its rustic inside but its not the aesthetics that make a great pub. There is a wide selection of beers on tap plus many various bottled Belgian and craft beers, its nice to go somewhere where you can enjoy different beers that aren't just the run of the mill ones. The bar man was really pleasant as well as being very knowledgeable and it's also a nice touch to be able to chose records from their vinyl collection to play. I highly recommend this place for those who appreciate good beers.

Beautiful 14th Century Building with lovely interior touches. Amazing selection of Belgian beers, and rotating real ales - including organic and vegan ales - and some from the owner's own brewery. Fine choice of divine glasses. Other lovely drinks too, wonderful staff and customers. Great live music and events - supporting local artists. Turn table to play vinyl - how cool is that?! Nice, eclectic, ever growing selection in residence! All welcome to bring in their own vinyl. Lovely food coming soon. Tasty, different vegan crisps etc now available. Finally made it to the Brewhouse yesterday, I was in beer heaven.I had some expectations of what was going to be on offer and I must say that I had underestimated the choice there would be.With a varied choice of cask & keg the beers ranged from Black IPAs to Pumpkin Porters. A strong show from the Belgiums too with several keg offerings and an extensive bottle choice. The venue itself is a nice environment and it felt like nice company to drink with, the staff were most helpful and even offered tasters on the beers we chose.

A resurrection of a run-down old bar, the new owner has restored this 14th century building to a lovely pub. What's more, he has stocked it with a marvelous selection of local craft ales and Belgian beers. Eventually, there will be 100 bottles available, a wealth of choice almost unheard of in the UK. This beer list does not include mass-produced pabulum either, everything is top quality craft brews. I love this space and the philosophy behind it.

We stopped at the crown on our way back from Colchester for a drink asked on the off chance if there was a table for two available which there was sat outside in the sun and had a drink until service started the staff and waitresses were all very helpful and friendly. We both had the chicken livers in masala cream sauce to start followed by the Dover sole and a trio of lamb which were all excellent and not expensive well worth a visit.

Stayed on Mersea Island for a few days with friends for birthday celebration and was looking for somewhere to go for afternoon tea. Found The Gilt Rooms on Tripadvisor and decided to give it a go. We had to book for the afternoon tea but wow so worth it. Everything from the freshly made sandwiches to the warm fresh out of the oven scones and home bakes cakes (chocolate eclair, victoria sandwich, lemon drizzle and choc brownie were amazing. All washed down with a perfectly chilled glass of prosecco and lashings of tea or coffee. It was the absolute best afternoon tea I've ever had and have had a few. Will definitely visit again when there.
