Nice enough pub. The landlord is a bit grumpy. Cosy atmosphere with the log burner. They have different mobile take away's that park outside where you can buy your food and eat in the pub too.

We stayed just one night on our way to a family wedding. Upon arrival, the landlord was polite and helpful, taking us straight to our room. Room was plenty big enough, nicely furnished, quiet and comfortable, with a clean and tidy bathroom, good shower and lots of tea and coffee. We didn't eat dinner here as we'd mad alternative arrangements beforehand. Breakfast in the morning was freshly cooked to order, hot and tasty. The buffet breakfast was ample as well. Plenty of coffee. Dinner menu was staple pub food.

We had to travel to Devon to pick up my son's pooch as we're babysitting her for a few months. The perils of being a parent! Having driven all day from N Wales, we were looking around Bampton for somewhere for an evening meal and a quiet drink. Bampton has some posh and very expensive eateries, but none of these really appealed to us, so we wandered up the hill from our B&B to The Quarryman's and stuck our head through the door. What a lovely surprise! A proper pub with a roaring fire , comfy table to sit at , friendly landlord and locals, dogs welcomed and an unpretentious reasonably priced menu. Heaven! I thought such places had disappeared with the advent of the gastro pub and TV Chef brigade. We settled down in the lounge, had drinks to our table (local cider and a big G&T!), and ordered a curry and a ham egg and chips! Can't recommend highly enough.

Our experience of this place was not good at all. There were 5 older men sitting at the bar when we arrived who clearly didn't appreciate four adults and two young kids disturbing their early evening pint. One of them had a really nasty look on his face and said something about keeping the kids under control -- we'd literally just walked through the door. We ordered food at the bar and the order was given to the same man who walked off towards the kitchen! We really should have told them to forget the food and left at this point. Anyway, the food that came out of the kitchen was mediocre at best-- for example, my wife ordered a prawn cocktail which was presented in a large glass bowl containing a huge amount of prawns. The bowl and prawns were all warm as if they'd just been defrosted. Awful.

I grew up in Bampton and my partner and I came back to visit on our way to Cornwall. We stayed here one night and it was very nice. Nice room with a view over the street, great breakfast services and food. We did have to ask for towels but it seemed like a one off mistake forgetting to put them in our room. Lovely sleep and stay.

We had a family weekend away, staying not far from the Quarryman's Rest. There were 14 adults and 8 children. We contacted the Quarryman's in advance to see if they could accommodate us for the Sunday lunch carvery. It was great, They made up one long table for us in a separate room. The food and service was very good. The bar staff coped exceptionally well with the rounds of drinks and a nice touch was to let us eat a birthday cake we had brought with us.

A great pub with a nice selection of beer, friendly staff and lovely home cooked food. On entering we were immediately made to feel welcome by the landlord, we ordered our drinks and went and sat on one of the leather sofas next to the fire. The food we ordered arrived promptly and was clearly home cooked, very tasty and reasonably priced. The onion rings were a particular highlight. The beer was very well kept and one of the best pints of Tribute I’ve had. All in all I would thoroughly this pub and will definitely be visiting again.

After a long day in Exmoor we expected to have dinner at another pub in Bampton but it was packed. We did not expect to make reservations on a Wednesday in off-holiday season. We walked to the Quarryman's Rest and it had plenty of room. We had a lovely evening and an excellent meal. I had the lamb shank and it was among the best I have had. My wife had a steak and loved it as well. It was not a fancy meal and did not have fancy prices, either. Our waitress was very friendly and gracious. A family with small children came in later and the hostess was terrific with them. So good to see.

A friendly welcome and a surprisingly big restaurant area. A very good steak and ale pie - good value at £10 - washed down with an excellent local brew. Good sized portions, efficient service make this a good venue for meals on the hoof. Staying in the area a while so we'll be back for another visit.

We only popped in here for a quick pint after a long day, the smells when we walked in were mouth watering, I understood they had a new chef and if the smell was anything to go by lucky people who were eating. We did try to book a meal later in the week, but they were fully booked when we tried, such a shame as we were looking forward to trying to match the food with the aroma.

We visited here for lunch today and found an unexpected treat. To be honest we were planning on visiting the other pub in Bampton which had been recommended to us as the Quarrymans had recently changed hands and we had not heard good reviews, but when we found the other place were not serving food decided to visit the Quarrymans instead. It was wonderful. We both had homemade cod, chips and mushy peas and it was great, lovely fresh fish and the whole meal was as light as a feather. We followed up with homemade desserts and they were equally delicious and unusual (I had salted chocolate tart with raspberry pops(!)). Would highly recommend this venue and will definitely be returning soon. It was worth a drive out to Bampton which is such a lovely place. Good luck to the new owners.

This is the first time we had eaten at the Quarryman's since the new chef arrived. There had been very good reports and we were not disappointed. We had a couple of foodie friends visiting for the day so we booked in for lunch and they were clearly impressed - as were we! No bar food here - and no chips either, it's worth pointing out - just excellent locally sourced, carefully prepared exquisite food. We didn't order a starter (must go back and try those!) which was just as well as the amuse bouches were actually quite filling. Between us we tried almost everything else on the menu though and can thoroughly recommend it all.

Bampton, unfortunately, had the air of an old people’s commune.....So, stumbling upon the Quarrymans Rest was an even greater pleasure. We were welcomed warmly and it was clear that the current hosts have worked very hard to make an ambience, offer and menu appropriate to its clientele. Fortunately the weather was good so we were able to enjoy the beer garden where we partook of local ales and cider and excellent burgers with locally sourced ingredients.

Had a fantastic Mothering Sunday carvery here, food was very good and well priced, a special mention must be made for the local beef and roast potatoes, cooked to perfection. The new management are doing a brilliant job, we were made to feel very welcome and appreciated the single rose and bubbly provided free for all the mums. Would recommend 'The Quarryman's Rest' to anyone in the Bampton area, we will be back!

I cannot recommend highly enough. The food is out of this world, very well presented and tastes absolutely amazing. Had several meals here since the new management took over. The service is fantastic in a friendly relaxed atmosphere, not what you always expect in a 'local country pub' where the atmosphere can often be very unfriendly (such as Bamptons other pub The Swan). We took our three young children to the Quarrymans for the carvery and they were also made to feel very welcome. No rubbish served here, the food is totally out of this world and whoever makes those roast potatoes, in my opinion, is a genius, they were totally sublime and I could happily go back and eat a plateful of them alone. Even the children tucked in and asked for seconds and this is very rare! You must sample this place it is a real treat for food lovers. Can't wait to go back.

We have just got back from having a Sunday lunch at the Quarryman's Rest, I wish we hadn't bothered! We've been there before the changed management, but thought we'd give it a try anyway. I wish we hadn't, it was, to say the least, awful. There weren't many people there, which is always worrying. I asked for a glass of red wine, the choice was Merlot or Shiraz, my Husband and son had a lint of beer, which was not kept very well, there was a lot of sediment in the bottom. The choice of Sunday lunch was Beef or Pork, we all chose beef, It came up very quickly, the beef was gristly and fatty, but not nice fat as you would expect on a quality piece of beef. The roast potatoes were insipid, definitely not crispy and under cooked. The veg was plentiful, in fact far too much for three people, overcooked and a very boring selection and there was one small Yorkshire Pudding. As for the gravy, well all I can say is that Bisto Granules are an improvement on this dish water. The service was dire, we had to ask for serving spoons for the veg, and then were given one tiny spoon and had to ask for a bigger spoon and still only got one for three dishes. We didn't bother getting desert, as we'd decided if dinner was that bad heaven knows what they could do to desert, we had already wasted £40.00.It is a real shame, because it was a nice pub and to be honest how different is it to make a decent Sunday roast? Well we won't be going back there and I would suggest no-one else bothers either - very disappointed!

My wife and I went for an evening meal, on a recommendation. However we didn't realise the restaurant was under new management. We ordered beef and whole trout. The beef was good, but came with the wrong source. The seasonal veg were insipid and overcooked. The potatoes were swimming in grease and tasteless. The trout looked delicious. However it wasn't cooked. The chef came out and apologised and said it was a big fish. (It was) When it came back a 2nd time it was still totally uncooked. The waitress was apologetic, but there was no goodwill gesture.I've never left a restaurant without eating a meal before.Still hungry and still fancying some fish, I went to the fish and chip shop down the road--excellent!I've never done a tripadvisor review before either. If reading this--hope you don't suffer as well,

We have had occasional visits for lunch here over many years. There was always a warm friendly buzz about this busy country pub and restaurant, so it was with confidence that we booked a table for a family get together .How different this place is ..... Not warm and welcoming and heavy metal music playing loudly. We were shown into the carvery and had lunch. The "roast potatoes" were probably sautéed and varied from being burned black to hardly cooked. The choice of meats was lamb or beef and neither were particularly flavoursome. Hard to tell the difference as they we both rolled and not an obvious joint of meat. The vegetables were non-descript. Puddings did not seem to have been fresh made on the premises.Such a shame as this used to be such a special place, but apparently since being under new management, it seems to have gone downhill.Would we recommend this place or go again ? Definitely not, sadly.

Now that my daughter and son-in-law have moved to Tiverton it's an ideal opportunity to try out different places to eat nearby so the Quarryman's Rest was the first on the list. Arriving early on a cold and windy night it was virtually deserted and although we could have eaten in the bar we opted for the restaurant which was, and remained, empty. When we came to leave however the bar was heaving with lots of people eating there.A fairly small menu, which I find is no bad thing, and good value prices too. I'd recommend the lamb shank.and my wife really enjoyed the fish course. The only slight downside is that the car park is very small so you're probably better off parking in the street.

I am thrilled that you are getting back up and running. I've had so many relaxed and friendly hours in the cafe with friends that I am looking forward to more accompanied by a fab nut roast and side salads fit for a queen. Airy and plenty of space (unlike other cafes that cram as many in as they can) so it feels very Covid safe even without have to make big changes.

We heard The White Hart was under new ownership so we came along for midweek lunch - it was great! We were warmly greeted by a kind lady behind the bar which had lots of ale, lager & cider choices. We ordered the daily special with a drink which for £12 was great value. The Cod & Chips and Scampi were exactly what you’d expect from a country town pub grub - well worth the money. The desert of STP was also lush. We’d definitely recommend this pub for a great quality and great value midweek lunch. We’ll come back for Sunday Lunch soon.
