Qualisea Fish & Chips in Eastbourne

Great spot to grab a chippy after doing the famous seven sisters hike! Yummy food and friendly staff! ☺️

Walked in ordered 2 large portions of chips a battered sausage a saveloy and fish cakes, paid for it and they gave it to us saying its all in the packaging, returned home no battered sausage and savloy in the menu. Called up to ask what's what and tell them they didn't put it in with the menu of what we asked for they hung up the call no apology at all. Not very impressed.

Visited on Easter Sunday and had the skate & chips. Fish was large and perfectly cooked with plenty of chips to go with it all for a very reasonable price. Excellent service as well so highly recommended if you're in the vicinity!

Good food, good service, very clean, popular. Overcooked halloumi imho, but perhaps that's just me. Other than that minor issue, definitely worth a visit. Edit: halloumi was apparently meant to be crispy, in which case they were cooked to perfection. Sans squeek.

Gluten free, fish was beautiful, lovely crispy coating, nice and fresh. Homemade tartar sauce was delicious as was the curry sauce, and we loved the family history, about the chip shop. Would highly recommended if in Eastbourne

Chips were average. Fish was chewy and soggy at the same time. Burger was burnt so bad my husband gave it to the dog. All in all totally unacceptable will never order from them again

Bought takeaway fish & chips to have on the beach. Good quality and generous portions. Not the cheapest but fish & chips isn't a cheap meal these days.

I’d order from here again if my main meal was fish and chips – they were decent. However, I wouldn’t return for the cod roe. It was thin and small with limp batter, especially compared to other fish and chip shops that serve chunky, crispy cod roes.

Excellent fish and chips Lovely large cod and chips and the server happily obliged my request for a middle cut cod rather than a tail end. Lovely crispy batter and big chunks of flaky white fish. Server was lovely and friendly , can’t wait to eat here again when I next visit Eastbourne.

I always give a good review for this chip shop, however the last two times they have been more than half an hour late!

If I was just reviewing the food then it would be 5 stars. The fish was delicious, although the chips could have been fresher. Unfortunately the curry sauce and mushy peas we ordered never made an appearance, but they did turn up on the bill! Unfortunately the woman sitting behind us, I believe that she may be a manager, although I didn't see her do any work, made us feel very uncomfortable. During most of our time there she was spouting her opinions on world events very loudly. As two gay men we didn't really need to hear her transphobia. What should have been a relaxing time became very tense as it took all my willpower not to challenge her beliefs. When the owner arrived with the rest of the family we decided it was time to finish our drinks and leave. No sooner were we out the door when we saw the owner giving a very public dressing down to the waiter! Originally we had planned to go back again but the whole experience means we won't be back again.

Willingdon Road Foxes The battered sausages, fish and chips and sausages and left overs are so yummy! The cholorestorol is a bit high but keep it coming it keeps are tails bushy and our eyes nice and bright and helps us to stay away from attacking people's chickens but we do like to leave little gifts of 💩 behind, but not where we are fed. Chips were mostly black and floppy. Sausage was grey and taste wasnt nice.

We were recommended Qualisea as the best fish and chips in Eastbourne. How wrong they were. ‘Wet’ fish, most likely as a result of cooking frozen fish? As I cut in to the fish it was all watery, and tasteless. The chips were mediocre at best. Our friend had Dover sole which was also battered! It would appear that the food maybe cooked to order, but cooking frozen fish when your restaurant is on the coast is inexcusable. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant at all. Give it a wide birth. The rest of the food maybe OK? But definitely don’t have the fish! The best fish and chips, is on St. James Street in Brighton. Little Jack Fullers, they cook the fish to order in front of you, and the most amazing chips.

We enjoyed our food, and they have a 5 star hygiene rating.

Five of us popped in for an informal meal. What a lovely, smart, well run establishment. The fish and chips were freshly cooked and were perfect. It is family run and owed for over sixty years.

I have previously resided in Eastbourne, and this is my first time returning. I have always enjoyed dining at Qualisea, which is why I decided to invite my friends to experience it with me. Upon arrival, we were informed that it was a particularly busy day, and as such, we were unable to share a large portion of cod and chips. We understood the situation and ordered one portion each for the six of us. However, I noticed that another table was allowed to share a single large portion between two customers. While this discrepancy did not significantly impact our visit, it was worth mentioning. Additionally, one set of cutlery at our table appeared to have been previously used. We brought this to the attention of one of the waitstaff, an elderly lady, who seemed surprised but promptly replaced the cutlery. However, I remain curious as to how used cutlery ended up on our table. The overall atmosphere was not as welcoming as I had experienced during my previous visits two years ago when I lived in Eastbourne. My friends and I felt somewhat rushed, as the staff began clearing our plates while we had not yet finished our meals. We hope for more attentive and accommodating service in the future. Furthermore, we couldn't help but feel that there may have been an element of discrimination, as we are not white. While the food itself was enjoyable, the overall experience was marred by an unwelcoming atmosphere. Due to this, I will no longer recommend Qualisea to my friends in the future.

Without a doubt the best fish and chips I have ever had! The cod was cooked to perfection with a thin and was not at all greasy, the chips were big and fluffy and a great portion siz. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about their menu I will definitely be going back Thanks for a wonderful evening.

Went to order gluten free chips which is advertised on their walls and online. Then told they don’t switch it on for a portion of chips! Awful service. Don’t lie and change your advertising!

We visited Qualisea today and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Eastbourne. Great fish and chips, perfectly cooked with absolutely no grease, very welcoming service and delicious coffee! I require a gluten free option and was made to feel this was no trouble at all. They use a separate frier and had to fire it up just for me. (Excellent for coeliacs!) the batter was delicious and hard to distinguish from standard batter it was so good. We will definitely be returning!

A surprise find and so glad we stumbled on this place. 11 of us and the service was excellent. Great food, generous portions, lovely friendly staff, very welcoming. Thank you.

During a recent family trip to Eastbourne, we were disappointed to find that the local fish and chips shop across from the station was closed. We decided to try something different and went to Qualisea. Upon being seated, we noticed that the tables were dirty, with debris left over from the previous diners, and a waiter who was non-coherent. The menus were soiled with grease and condiments remainders when we received them. I ordered the traditional fish and chips along with a drink. The canned drink was served in a glass stained with limescale or etching, so I chose not to use it. Although I was extremely hungry and finished my meal, other family members were not inclined to eat the mediocre chips. When our waiter came to ask for feedback, we provided some constructive and honest comments, and he looked astonished. A few minutes later, the owner, Katerina, approached our table. She was incredibly abrupt and rude, questioning our concerns and arguing that, since I had eaten my food, there wasn’t really a problem, and lacks any essence of customer service. In hindsight, I should have noticed there was no food hygiene rating displayed, which raised some red flags. I would advise against visiting this family establishment, as it seems to have lost its values. Update: The below response perfectly articulates the lack of ability to take criticism from customers, and showing their true colours. Such a shame…. What a surprise. Grilled cod/haddock with jacket potato. It’s very rare to find something like that in traditional fish and chips shops. What about veg salad with grilled halloumi cheese. Outstanding taste indeed. And finally great puddings. Really impressed. Excellent service and friendly staff. Respect for the family owners. You are the best, really the best. Keep going great work

Went looking for a fish and chip shop before going home to London, and found Qualisea….. and I am so happy I did. The food was fresh, service was quick and I would genuinely go as far to say it was the best fish and chips I have ever eaten in my life and I’m quite a fish and chips connoisseur. The own brand beer was delicious. Service could have been a bit more welcoming but it was pleasant enough and wouldn’t put me off returning. Overall, I loved my experience here, and if I lived in Eastbourne, this would be my regular.

Really friendly staff who are eager to help and get your food for you. They often have vegan cheesy chips! Just wish they had the plant based/vegan pies! That would make it a 5/5. Great selection of drinks Quality food that’s never too oily always fresh. I will be back time and time again! One of the best around for constant greatness no hit and miss!

I was standing in the takeaway area having ordered my food and a young lad had ordered a cheese burger who was also waiting. When his cheese burger arrived he said he ordered it without salad. Quite politely may I add. The lady who was serving instantly got defensive and started shouting him down and arguing. Telling him he needed to stop talking to his friends and pay attention. I was frankly disgusted to hear a simply remedied situation turned into a shouting match. The server then went and asked her fellow employees if she thought she'd handled the situation correctly. One of the other workers plainly said "no" causing her to get angry at her too. Just for having a different opinion. If the lady in question had been working for me that would have been her last evening of employment. I use the restaurant a lot for fish and chips but am now finding somewhere else in Eastbourne. Probably the rudest member of staff I've ever encountered.

The waitresses were the absolute rudest pair I've ever been served by, everything was too much trouble and considering the place was really quiet - 4 tables occupied the two of them and one chef should have managed easily. Right from the get go we felt we were unwelcome when we were told we couldn't sit at the table we asked about with the waitresses saying you'll sit where I want you or not at all. We asked if we could order drinks and we're told to go back to the table and wait - we didn't mind waiting actually we don't expect silver service in a chippy but as we hadn't been there before we didn't know the system. Had the waitress got us drinks while we waited until she was ready the restaurant would have sold two rounds instead of one and she could have taken our food order when whatever drama was unfolding was over. After what I'd call a longer wait than you'd think judging by the lack of patrons, we had our meals almost thrown at us, I'm not even joking. The food was acceptable except for the chicken burger which was not breast meat it was more like a large nugget which I thought was disappointingly low quality. The milkshakes at £3.50 each, again were nothing special. The at8tmosphere was tense, borderline hostile. I'm sorry for the owner because the choice of staff no matter what was going on was detrimental to the business. We won't be back.

A nice restaurant in itself, but unfortunately dogs are not allowed.

Food was OK, the service needs work from the shouty northern 'greeter' to the waiter who had all the charm of a self service checkout. Lots of room for improvement. I notice they have been there for 60 years, perhaps some complacency, arrogance or sense of entitlement. Either way, the competition is better.

I had Regular Haddock and chips and OMG it was so good, they have a range of alcoholic beverages, I just had Coke Zero. They have a great selection of various Fish on the menu and of course desserts too. Will definitely visit again when back in Eastbourne. Highly recommend here for fresh fish and chips and very welcoming staff.

I asked for salt and plenty of vinegar I got none there was no taste chucked most of it away it 1 bit of taste in the fish

Ordered via Uber eats, go back to check on the order 30 minutes after ordering and our order has been cancelled due to our address being too far away. We’ve ordered delivery from here before with no problems. If we are too far away then you shouldn’t appear on the search. Also shows as delivery available to us via Just eat. Disappointed. Thanks for the reply. Our order was just under £20 and it says minimum order as £8 so think you need to adjust this on Uber Eats Maybe you could have called me the customer to advise and then I could have changed the order or collected? Anyway, we agree to disagree, we won’t use you again for eat in or take away and you won’t deliver to us so all good.

Good selection of indoor seating and toilet available, was a bit chilly inside but no drama. Bar available with spirits and a draught beer albeit wasn’t the best in taste. Services prompt and friendly. Food mediocre disappointingly especially for the location and reviews. Fish and chips was just okay wouldn’t recommend it vs. Other establishments. Would be good to have a homemade tartar sauce to add to the tradition. Overall nice to sit with a drink for a chippy but food wasn’t anything to write home about. Spent £50 for 2 drinks, 2 fish and chips and 2 curry sauce.

Usually pretty quick and reliable, tonight our order of sausages and a savaloy and chips took 1hr 20mins and was missing a sausage, chips were quite soggy.

As a proud old Yorkshire man 75 years young, we came here on the recommendation of a couple we met at the bus stop here in Eastbourne. This is without doubt, the finest Fish and Chips to pass my lips. Batter so light and crisp, fish actually tasted like the freshest fish possible.

Been eating at this restaurant since I was a little kid, the family has always been polite and friendly, the food has always been delicious and prices are reasonable too, highly recommend anything from the menu always 100% spot on.

I’ve been coming here for a number of years, and it’s been great to see the same family and staff remain over the years. Always consistently good food, fair prices and service always friendly and pleasant. On my most recent visit I had left a bag with a load of shopping in, and the staff were kind enough to keep hold of it for me - I was sure I had lost everything in it. Thank you for always being a special place that we always visit on our trips to Eastbourne.
