Pyne arms in North Devon

If you are looking for delicious food in a warm, typically English country pub, then look no further. As we ate, all we could hear were the other clientele exclaiming how fantastic their food was. The chef and the team really did a superb job when we visited. A perfect evening out for a hearty, yet refined meal with a terrific menu to choose from.

We have been going to the pyne arms for at least 12 years, we have watched Amy and Ellis grow and make this pub the best it is today, we have had many a meal there and have never had a bad time, meal etc. Amy and her staff are exceptional and always put them selves out to make you feel at home. And Ellis is an amazing chef. Both are qualified chefs and work so very hard to keep there food and pub to a very high standard. We stayed at the pub this time in the B& B for our 39th wedding anniversary. The rooms are beautifully decorated and are very comfortable and they are also dog friendly which is wonderful, we had such a lovely time celebrating our anniversary and would like to say Thank you very much ❤️

Whenever we need a break or just want to wind down, this is our go to place. If you want to go somewhere for a perfect Sunday lunch, you can’t go wrong - always a warm welcome, consistently good value and high quality produce - it doesn’t take long to see why and how they win so many awards. It’s a busy, buzzy pub in a beautiful location with the added benefit of being dog friendly. We had the crispy chilli beef and smoked haddock arancini starters, followed by roast beef, roast chicken and a Pyne Arms burger. Somewhat greedily, we finished with treacle tart and custard. We booked in for Sunday lunch with the family following local recommendations. Several of us had starters, which were all delicious. Most of our party chose roast beef, which was really tender and served with a great selection of fresh veg. The other dishes chosen were also excellent. The service was great and we can’t wait to return!

Another amazing meal at The Pyne Arms. We visited for Mother’s Day and were greeted by the lovely landlady Amie with a thoughtful gift bag of homemade fudge (which was delicious!) and a very warm welcome. The roast beef was as always superb with their meat sourced from local farms and is fresh and high quality. The nut roast is a favourite of mine. Delicious desserts also. We also visited for Valentine’s Day, they had a special menu for the evening and it was truly one of the best meals we have ever had. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming with just the right amount of noise level. For the very high quality and generous portion sizes the meals are good value. The food is consistently excellent, service is always wonderful and the staff are very welcoming. The location is stunning. We have become regulars at the pub (this is a long overdue review) since moving into the area two years ago and feel so lucky to have this on our doorstep! Would highly recommend a visit here. We came here as a family of 7 for a Sunday Roast, the pub is warm and welcoming and cosy. It was busy even though it was a little later than lunch time and we were shown to our table. The staff were polite and helpful, brought us over drinks and took our order. All I can say is it was one of the best roasts we have had in a long time, tender beef, fluffy Yorkshire puddings and as we are big eaters we asked for extra vegs and they came out quickly. Food was hot and delicious, we shared some puddings and highly recommend the Brulee! The detail in this country pub is second to none, you can tell everything is carefully thought out and the customers experience is top of their list! Well done Pyne Arms...we will definitely be back!

Another excellent meal at the Pyne Arms, the food is consistently amazing and is why I keep going back! The cheese soufflé is to die for! The suet pudding was amazing too! Fantastic pub with a great atmosphere, great service and great food! Went following several recommendations from friends. We were a large group going out to celebrate a birthday and I can honestly say it was one of the nicest meals we've had locally in a very long time. We live in Combe Martin and I couldn't believe that I've never been to this lovely country pub before, we will defiently be back! Would like to thank all the staff for a lovely evening : )

Omg what can I say,like every time we visit - its like meeting an old friend!the beef we had for lunch was to die for,my mum had the turkey (this was for mothers day) and where as turkey can be quite dry,she said it was beautiful. Now I always have the creme brulee as its my all time favourite and if i could have taken a batch home i would have!XxxX Thankyou to Amie, El and the team for again another fantastic meal and me and my mum had a fantastic mother's day with no washing up!!BONUS!! Where do I start, we turned up and were greeted by really friendly and accommodating staff, the manager showed us to our table and sat us down! The pub was thriving and the atmosphere was great, although busy as being Mother’s Day we were really taken care of! My roast beef was sensational the best I’ve had, they did a smaller child size roast for the kiddies of our group and they ate every single bite, which says something with our little ones! Staff were so friendly, nothing was too much trouble and the dogs enjoyed laying by the fire! I honestly cannot recommend this pub enough, a real county feeling with fantastic food, drinks and staff! popped into the pyne arms pub, after riding past on my horse a few times (was tempted to tie him up outside 🤣) Well, what a find! country pub meets foodie heaven! safe to say ill be regular there! Ended up having all three courses and they did not disappoint, I’ll be working my way down the menu next time!

An overall really disappointing visit after which we won't be returning. Booked Sunday lunch for Mother's Day - very overpriced and underwhelming food. To begin with, there appeared to be a total lack of organisation re. tables, with multiple staff coming over to take a drinks order, despite us having no drinks menus - although at this early stage it did not bother us too much. Starters - scotch egg okay and the best of our choices but does not warrant the price tag; sweet chilli beef fried to the point it was 'dusty' with virtually no beef left in it - would also expect some bread or other accompaniment to soak up the sauce; arancini okay, but truffle was lacking. At this stage though we were not to unhappy and still looking forward to our mains. Roasts - we had high expectations after previous visits, but after waiting around 45mins/1hour from starters (with two very young children), we wish we had left. Bland, overcooked, paper-thin beef (x2 slices), rubbery yorkshire puddings, extremely 'al dente' vegetables... a few members of our party decided to try the puddings, once again these were okay, but nothing to rave home about. Vanilla ice cream also tasted awful (something I never thought I'd say); luckily though, our kids will eat any ice cream and so it didn't go to waste. Probably the worst thing of all was the staff attitude, in particular, that from whom we take it to be the manager... rude, miserable, unwelcoming and not even a thank you after settling the rather hefty bill. Had asked a member of staff for a kids menu to be told they don't have one (family-friendly?!) but can make smaller roast portions and reeled off a few options - queried the prices as our children are much younger and have small appetites to which she said she'd return. 'Manager' came to take our order and when I explained I was waiting said very bluntly "what do you want to know". No attempt to ask how any of our food was, although it seemed that they weren't bothered anyway. As previous reviews have alluded, prices seem to have gone up whilst standards have dropped; it seems that they have become complacent with their offering. Many better options locally for the money and in places that appreciate your business.

Great atmosphere, varied menu and helpful friendly staff. My skate wing was delicious as were the Sea Bream, Steak Pudding and Pork Chops ordered by our guests.

A truly lovely place to eat. Great food as always. We have eaten here a number of times and always been impressed. Bar is well stocked with a good wine list. Each plate of food is well presented and you can see the attention to detail. Great value for money for food of this quality and would highly recommend a visit to this off the beaten path hidden gem.

We called in on the off chance that they would have a room for two for that night (having been let down by another venue which we had pre booked). The staff could not have been more accommodating. They very quickly allocated us their last room for the night and squeezed us in a table for food on a very busy Saturday night. The room was superb - great character and immaculate. The food was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Transformed a bad experience of travelling in wind and rain to (find our original accommodation was not available) to end on a high at this delightful venue.

We have never been to the Pyne Arms but had found very favourable reviews from a variety of sources and were staying nearby so booked ahead. The menu had a wide variety of choices so we selected items which we had not chosen recently. We were not disappointed, we would recommend the Pyne Arms to anybody.

Sunday roast was superb in every way. Pheasant scotch eggs, perfectly cooked beef sourced from a few miles up the road - simply excellent. Given the issues local hospitality businesses are facing, the service was smooth and quick and the staff were excellent.

Had a wonderful family lunch in the Pyne Arms toady. We sat outside in lovely weather. Food was delicious enjoying a main and dessert. Drawn to the pub on a recommendation but also because we had our dog who was warmly welcomed. We had to eat outside which we wanted to do anyway. Staff were really lovely and Covid aware/secure. We’ll eat there again (and possibly stay in the B&B rooms) Highly recommended.

Warm welcome, efficient service and delicious food! Possibly the best baked Camembert I've ever had! The children loved their meals and the dog was also made welcome and relaxed too. Beautiful views of the nearby countryside.

What a find! Cannot believe we have just found this gem after so many years of coming down to Devon. Went for Sunday lunch with the family and it was amazing! Food was delicious and so fresh, the Sunday veggie roast was one of the best I’ve ever had and the desserts amazing! Service was great, even though they were tight of staff due to Covid and prices were really reasonable. We will definitely be back and I’d love to come back and stay in one of the rooms. Just fab!

My wife and I enjoyed an excellent meal here during our recent holiday in North Devon. We both had the chicken curry was extremely tasty with a nice warming spice , clearly homemade, and accompanied by rice and naan bread. Excellent service, especially during these difficult and strange times and very welcoming of our cocker spaniel. From what we could see from food being delivered to the large table behind us it all looked delicious - fresh hake, roast duck, more curry and deep fried halloumi all with fresh vegetables and either new potatoes or chips. Would highly recommend if you’re in the area.

We live in the area and have been meaning to try the Pyne Arms for quite some time as had heard such good things about it. We went for Sunday lunch and we certainly were not disappointed. As soon as you walk through the door you get a great impression of a well kept, cosy, country pub and a warm welcome from the staff. The menu is superb and beautifully presented. The lamb was delicious and served with perfect roast potatoes and a great selection of vegetables plus a gravy boat. The deserts looked amazing but we were a little full having also shared a starter of excellent whitebait.
