Putting Green Fish Bar in King's Lynn and West Norfolk

Possibly the worst fish and chips ever. Fishcake was like breaded carpet underlay completely tasteless, chips cold and all tiny bits some burnt dark brown. Only decent thing was cod with light batter. But definitely won't go back.

Greasy food and good batter was over cooked and very crispy. And to top it all it was expensive for what we got. Wish we had brought lunch elsewhere now

Fish was lovely hot,thick and lovely batter. However chips cold,hard awful. Curry sauce to thick set like jelly also cold. Dissapointed as i had recommend you.

Stopped by yesterday for sausage and chips as visiting heacham, they were absolutely disgusting, brown, burnt looking, strong flavoured chips that were dry and hard, possibly microwaved from the day before?! The sausage in batter…..the batter was soggy and the sausage was almost pure white……ive never seen a sausage that was white before, didn’t even know they existed, it was horrid. Really not pleasant and was so inedible that we threw them in the bin when we got to the nearest one as we drove around the village. We wouldn’t ever recommend this place The 1 star is for service!

i am pleased to report this this establishment is back to its previous high standards . for some reason totally unknown to me it went through a " dodgy " stage with very poor quality cod . The cod i enjoyed on the beach today from there was a splendid piece of cod . perfectly cooked .. good batter .. good fish . i am so pleased my local chippy has pulled its self out of the doldrums and is once again serving good cod .

I don't like to post poor feedback but the standard of food from here now is terrible. Most of the other reviews cover all the point's. Very poor quality and a venue that simply takes advantage of it's location right next to the beach. Should be better alot better.

We have just had plaice and chips and cod and chips. This is the worst piece of plaice I have ever had the batter was burnt and I had a job to find the fish inside it was so small. How anyone can have the nerve to serve people crap like this is beyond me. Probably thought I was a day tripper but I am not and will never recommend this place to anyone

You don’t need a mask to come in should of been a warning sign to start with Communal salt and vinegar for people to use not ideal in a pandemic! Fish and chips were vile loads of mouldy chips, thick claggy batter waste of £15 for 2 of us as they went in the bin Don’t even consider it

Do NOT bother with this place for your fish and chips! The price is higher than the other shops in Heacham, I guess this is due to it's location but the food is not the best not even average. You don't get many chips, they say it's cooked fresh to order the fish is very small and there were a lot of green chips. Save time and money and go somewhere else for your fish and chips as this place is very poor at best.

Out for a walk I fancied a quick snack, went in and ordered. the staff were friendly and asked all the right questions to make sure I got what I wanted.

All reviews prior to the reopening after lockdown need to be ignored ... the positive reviews of the quality of the cod were justified ,, it was very good cod , however since reopening the quality of the cod on each of my three visits has been of exceptionally poor quality ..and i do mean very poor . i shall not be returning to what used to be my favourite chippy

We had cod and chips from here a couple of weeks before our most recent visit and they weren’t too great, so decided to give them another chance. Big mistake as they were actually worse than before. So bad that I had to take them back and change them for some that weren’t very much better. The batter was fried to a brittle hard greasy mess and snapped between your fingers. The fish was barely there at all and what there was was dry and chewy. £7.50 a portion of food for the seagulls was not the best experience for us, but at least they enjoyed it.

Fish was stale and tasteless, overly greasy, chips all stuck together. Genuinely the worst fish and chips I’ve ever had I am afraid. Sorry!

Been visiting this chip shop which is in a lovely location for the last 9 years and it's been great. Been there twice since lockdown has eased and been badly disappointed both times. The fish in particular was greasy and the batter very dark and unpleasant. Can we have a return to what we had before please or we will have to go elsewhere.

Seriously the worst the chips ever even the kids refused them ... straight in the bin the birds might like them !

What a great place to grab a hot chocolate with some really nice chips. staff very friendly. The staff go out of their way to be friendly and will answer any questions, even stupid ones

Nothing good to say I'm afraid. Old dirty oil used, everything Greasey. I won't go on.... Just avoid!

Our experience was clearly very different from some of the other reviewers. We both enjoyed excellent cod and chips. Freshly cooked, piping hot, crispy batter, moist fish. We could not fault it. Friendly staff too.

We visited whilst staying nearby and we wanted to eat fish and chips on the beach . The staff were very friendly and chatty . The fish and chips were really small and very greasy and it does seem they are cooked in old fat as they are very dark. We walked past on numerous occasions after and it was empty even though there are some caravan sites near by and there is a lot of passing trade going to the beach.

Been to this fish and chip shop before and was disappointed. But decided to give them another try. The fish and chips were fried in old fat. The fish and chips had a twang with them and the chips were really greasy with black bits from the previously fried products. I would suggest the other fish shop in Heacham.

The fish and chips tasted horrible due to being fried in old fat. The meal was very greasy. The chips were very soggy.

Never tried this chip shop before so thought we would try it out. Brought fish cake and chips. The chips were not great as tasted under cooked and the fat they used made the chips taste dirty. The fish cakes we chucked in the bin as the batter inside was all powdery and raw. Won’t be going back.

We have owned a holiday home near to this chip shop for nearly 3 years and have seen the ownership change as many times. Last night we were late back from a day out and decided to have fish & chips.I ordered a large haddock with large chips for my wife and I to share. I had to wait for the fish to be cooked, which I don't mind at all. Whilst I was waiting, the staff were cleaning up and laughing and joking with each other.After collecting the order,I made the 1 minute walk back to our caravan.After plating up the meal, we were very disappointed to find that the chips were nearly cold. On top of this, the batter on the fish was woefully undercooked. It wasn't remotely crisp on the outside and was distinctly raw on the inside.I ate some of the chips as I was very hungry, but my wife wouldn't eat anything. The fish was inedible.For £9.20p, this is the worst fish and chips I have ever had.We won't bother again.

We stay in Heacham every year at a family members caravan. This year we decided not to cook much and use the local services. One the first night we nipped in to Putting green chippie. And i must say the fish was very large and well cooked. Too bad the second or even third visit wasn't the same. On second visit some chips were undercooked one or two were still cold in the middle and dare I say raw. The fish was quite grey instead of pure white. The final vist was a total disaster. Some of the order was wrong and other bits were missed. Too many staff trying to help each other but failing miserably. And the quality was 3 or even worse 2 out of 10. Problem is if we had gone back to complain our other food would've been cold and after we had left the shop how could we prove there were missing items. We will vote with our feet and go to an alternative chop shop in future.

Having just bought a holiday home in Heacham we thought we would give this place a try. In all the food was ok chips very good fish was a bit greasy burgers tasty.

This chippy has been recently been taken by Snettisham fish bar.

This is a good location close to the beach , however I understand that the premises has changed hands this year, the quality is not as good as it was although service etc about the sanme

Prices are reasonable as are portions but nothing was quite right. The chips tasted barely cooked, and the batter on the cod and sausages was strange - my guess is both were cooked at the wrong temperature. All staff were below the age of 20 and this probably explains it.

Very friendly staff. The fish was lovely and the burger tasty however the chips were hard and under cooked. They needed much longer in the fryer.

this fish bar has now been taken over since last year so I think the new owners are still finding their feet not quite as good as before

A very good little chippy. Usually very busy so it's a good sign. Reasonably priced but cooked the right way.

This fish and chip shop was manned by young people as s16ear has mentioned. I’m not sure if it was shyness, inexperience or lack of respect for older people as they were not very polite. This hot food for our evening meal was very good and appreciated as the caravan I had rented from 2cholidays had no gas supply and did not arrive until the following morning.

YOUNG PEOPLE WORKING .... with not a bit of respect too elders , food was ok my large cod LOOKED MASSIVE!!

great quality of food and good prices too, nice selection of soft drinks too. When there is a queue the staff take your order and give you a numbered token which is called out when order id ==s ready

Stood for 5 mins , waiting for the teenagers workers to acknowledge me , they were not busy at all , 4 of them walking past me , looking through me , then preceded to serve someone who had just walked in , I let them know about it and walked out , pet hate of mine .

Este es un popular "fish and chips", que satisface el típico "fish and chips". He utilizado en varias ocasiones, y me parece que es el mejor de la zona. La comida está bien hecha y el personal que he encontrado, aunque todos jóvenes, son amables y eficientes. El horario de apertura están escritas en un cartel fuera, pero el cierre parecen variar en tu día a día, que no es nada útil.

I have got fish and chips several times before here, and was surprised by the negative reviews, always been happy with food and service in the past, however, I will never be going here again! we placed and paid for our order, when our order no.was called, we got to the counter,where the boy serving asked if we wanted salt and vinegar, I said yes, but....before I could finish the sentence, not on the fish bites please, he had started sprinkling vinegar on these, I knew my grandson wouldn't eat them, so I asked for a replacement, and was totally stunned when he rung up the item on the till, and I had to pay for the replacement! I said this wasn't right as it was his mistake, but he (and the older boy) insisted. I paid, nothing else I could do, as we had the rest of our order. the older boy stood at the fryer muttering, swearing about me, I had no apology, just told it was my fault. I would suggest people go a few extra miles, to the excellent fishers fish shop, in hunstanton, I know I wish I had! chips were awful, and fish mega greasy from putting green.

This is a convenient shop for several caravan sites so it is usually very busy. The food is usually cooked to order so may take some time to arrive. The last few times I've been, the chips have been quite dry and the portions have shrunk, although the fish is ok. I think maybe the influx of holiday makers has caused the decline in standards, so hoping things will improve soon.

Visited on a Sunday afternoon and decided to try some fish and chips.Everywhere looked clean and tidy and fish and chips were cooked to order.Will visit again!!

We spend Most of the season in Heacham and this is our favourite chip shop. Better than any in Hunstanton. They cook them fresh to order so your not getting food that has been sat in the warmer. The fish is a good size portion. There is often a queue but that is because they are so delicious.Recommendation: have some large pots of gravy etc.

We parked up at Heacham south beach and hoped to get fish and chips from the cafe there. When I enquired I was told they were closed and couldn't tell me where there was another fish and chip shop on Heacham or nowhere she would recommend - really rude lady.We found Putting Green Fish Bar and were a little wary after the cafe lady but how wrong was she!We drove back to the beach and found our supper still really hot, not greasy and perfect portion size.Definitely recommend if you are looking for a traditional seaside fish and chips.

A fish and chips shop is better at selling fish and chips rather than being an all encompassing fast food outlet.Our fish fillets were thin, dry and quickly got cold. The chips were dry and warm. Service was slow although there were few customers. One of the assistants took his meal whilst we were waiting to be served.

Only popped in for a snack. Ordered two chip rolls. Cooked to order, friendly and attentive staff. Hot chips and a great sea view! Well done guys!

We visited this chip shop as was told it was the best in Heacham.. We had just moved to Heacham and fancied some nice fish and chips.. I was so disappointed.. the fish was overcooked and hard as was the batter. The chips were just about edible.. it was quite late when we went for them and wondered if they had been standing... or just left in the fryer too long... I'm hoping it was a one off... very disappointed

visited the fish bar with my husband while on holiday in Heacham. We had the worst fish and chips we have ever had.

I don't eat fish & chips very often but I did 25th July, everything is freshly cooked, well worth a visit, sit on the prom watching the world go by with a fish supper, what more do you need.

The Cod here is the best I've tasted in a long time.Quantities are large, so I would opt for small next time - unless I miss breakfast and lunch.The shop was busy but the staff worked well in their team and served with a smileWould Recommend for all Fish and Chip fans with a good appetite

I live in heacham and this is the first time I had been here for fish and chips and we will definitely be back! They were without a doubt the best fish and chips I've had in a very long time. Not at all greasy and cooked perfectly. Really generous portions and very reasonably priced. The place was spotless and I was pleasantly surprised by how mature the 'young' staff were, not a mobile phone in sight!!! Very well done all of you. I will definitely recommend this to my friends and family.

My family and I needed feeding and we happen upon this chip shop - so thrilled we did. The fish was cooked right before us and the chips are just as my Mam cooked them. The fish was massive and even had enough to give our Staffy girls some..! Now I come from up north (the home of proper f & c) and I'm living down south now - I was in need of good quality f & c. I'm still full and can bearly move...but very happy... if I were able to rate higher I would... can't wait to return. .thank you and a "woof" from the girls.

Stopping for fish and chips was a last minute decision and whilst the fish was well cooked and the chips where good, the batter on the fish was stodgy, greasy and soggy in the middle. The curry sauce didn't taste of much either.It was good value but I don't think we would rush back.

Great chips. Freshly cooked for 11 of us. Staff lovely and seating area outside def a bonus. Coffee machine had broken but made us instant without hesitation which was gratefully received as it was freezing

Surprisingly good fish and chips, fresh not over fatty, hot and crisp. Buy at the shop walk up and sit on the sidewalk near the beach and watch the sunset magic.

We had already planned that fish n chips was going to be part of our first ever trip to Heacham. Traffic had been terrible and the advice was that we should park in High Street and walk to beach - this we found out was over 1/2 mile walk. So, it was 12.30 when we arrived outside this chippy. We could just see the start of the beach so decided we would eat first then go on (this was not the original plan).It was quiet when we first arrived - a welcome bowl of water for the dog outside - plenty of clean benches to sit at. Friendly welcome and a large menu to choose from - I ordered plaice, cod and veg burger - and was told I would be called as it was all cooked to order. I felt £18 was a bit steep but figured usual mark up for a tourist spot.However, when food was ready - a little over 5 minutes - the portions were immense and more importantly it was really good to. In fact we fed 2 adults and 2 children and a portion of chips was hardly touched. Amazing thin crispy batter on the fish - we will definitely return - and very much worth the money.

We were served the worst chips we have ever had at this shop yesterday! We went in at about 5.15 and suspect the chips had been re-heated from lunchtime! They were brown, dry and foul! Wish I'd taken them back and thrown them over the counter but we are on holiday and had better things to do!

Large Cod and regular Chips, cod delicious, chips very good. Young staff, professional, efficient. Highly recommend.

First Visit to this fish and chip shop on recommendation from the owners of our holiday stay. Perfect fish and chips freshly cooked whilst you wait. New owners now in but a very experienced young man, and he certainly knows how to do a lovely dinner.

We've had fish and chips from here every time we've stayed at the caravan park. Cannot find a better piece of fish and more freshly cooked. Worth going to Heacham just for that! I see it's up for sale, let's hope it stays the same.
