gluten-free was very good, my sister and brother-in-law, through the same would go soon .

Ordered a takeaway from here and they forgot a main dish. I called to tell them and was told I would be refunded for the dish and a driver would drop it off to me straight away. I haven’t been refunded and although a driver did drop my missing item off, they didn’t bother to knock at the door and left it on my doorstep. I was then called by the restaurant to say it was on my doorstep as we didn’t answer, that is not true. Needless to say by this point it was completely inedible. That’s not what you expect when you pay over £50 for a takeaway. I would avoid this place at all costs. Terrible customer service and the woman I spoke to on the phone was very rude.

We had a wonderful time here. Food was amazing and plentiful so much so we ended taking lots home. We booked it as part of a hen do and they had the table all set out for us on arrival and even supplied a hen party banner. Great service, price and food. Highly recommend.

Absolutely brilliant meal with amazing selection of dishes on two of the courses perfectly cooked to order.Went on a Saturday night early (5 pm) so it was.before a busy service.Suited us fine.Allow 2 hours enjoy it.Can,t recommend this enough.

food here was very tasteless, and service was awful young girls that don't know how to serve food( use their sleeves to carry plates ? ) 4 of them, and you wait a long time for anything. been here a few times, and it's been average this time, I was poor. I wouldn't ever go back now . was over £70 pounds for 3 course meal with a drink, and didn't eat the main as it was nasty and the duck . Well, there was enough duck for 4 pancakes at a push wouldn't go back if they said it was free next time . avoid!!!

The food is very poor standard, it's like the chef couldn’t be bothered. prawn toast without any prawn !! Dryed up mini rolls from Iceland. Well over priced main menu £12 a dish lol. rundown premises, The buffet will only do a minimum of two people. But nowadays a lot of people are single or divorced. welcome the owner to contact me to discuss !!

Hugely overpriced but upon ordering, suspected it would be because the food is of high quality but my word was I wrong. Food was horrible, greasy and bland. Wouldn’t order again if it was the only takeaway open!

Just been here for a big family meal (25) staff were lovely and very accommodating. Food tasted great and was fresh and hot so no complaints. Having looked at the recent reviews we was very sceptical but to my surprise most are false and can honestly say would highly recommended.

Wow! Went to celebrate a family members birthday. Wasn't too sure on what to expect but had an absolutely amazing time. There was so much choice for food, all of which were incredibly tasty... Especially the broccoli! Travelled from Norwich and would do it all again. Thanks for an amazing meal. Service was always with a smile and was always about when needed.

Myself and my partner were in the area and were looking for a good Chinese restaurant that was gluten-free, and we came across this restaurant. We were coming across from ashwell and were heading to downham Market. Once we arrived, the waiter asked what we would like for drinks and what menu we would like, and we asked for both as one is normal and the other menu was gluten-free. The selection was vast and you can see effort is put in to making the food as dishes you can't normally get like battered sweet and sour chicken and crispy shredded beef were made gluten free so you know they make the food on site. We both enjoyed the dishes we were served and the staff were very friendly. We will happily come here again.

We had a lovely meal here, we drove a long way as they have lots of gluten free choices which was very appreciated by this coeliac!! The staff were very nice and even moved us when we got cold from the door opening and shutting. Excellent selection of starters and good size portions, only thing that was missing was soups. We will definitely be back again and recommend especially for Gluten free options.

Went here as a family of two adults, three children and a toddler. The young waiting staff were lovely and friendly and the restaurant is fine in itself, although the lighting was a little harsh and the table was very rickety. We weren’t drinking alcohol on this occasion as we were with our children so got on with ordering plenty of food to go around the table. The starters arrived after a 40 minute wait and were okay. The chicken satay was great and the crispy duck was pleasant, but the rest was fairly unremarkable. The tempura prawns were greasy and as a result the batter was soggy, so they were rather gross. Another 45 minute wait and the mains came. By this time our toddler was getting restless and my partner decided to take him home so it was just me and the three kids. We agreed that I’d ask the restaurant to doggy bag the leftovers up to take home as he’d been unable to eat with us. Anyway, the mains were disgusting. My children ate the chicken chow mein (of which I couldn’t see any chicken in there, it just looked like plain noodles) and the other four or five dishes went to waste. I tasted the crispy chilli beef and it was tasteless and burnt. The squid in oyster sauce was vile. The king prawn dish was also extremely unpleasant. After ten minutes we decided to call it a day and I asked for the bill. £175 (no booze, remember!). I then needed a glass of wine to get over the shock. The restaurant asked if I wanted the food to take away and I declined. The dog had already been fed for the day. Before we left the older Chinese lady removed 10% from my bill which was a nice gesture and I gratefully accepted it before settling and leaving. But I still feel somewhat robbed. £160 and we went home hungry. Never again. Such a disappointing experience and a waste of time and money.

The only negative was slightly tired decor, apart from that, they offered an excellent, fairly priced menu and the food was hot, well cooked and well presented. Chatty obliging staff. Highly recommended!

We went for a meal for a family members birthday. It was towards the end of December so quite busy. The staff were really friendly and welcoming and very well informed about the dishes. The range of food was excellent and was cooked fresh and delicious. We enjoy having a whole evening out and enjoyed the breaks between courses. It was also very good value for money. We will definitely be going again. The only change that I would make is having candles/ dimmer lighting but that's only a personal preference and some customers may not like that/ might be a health and safety issue) I think it would add to the ambience and magic of the Purple Diamond! Lucky to have such a gem in March.

I visited a few days ago with some friends. We were the only people in this restaurant for the entirety of our stay (which was a few hours) I was disappointed by one of the staff, possibly the manager who was rude to the younger servers working there. She would openly and very loudly say “You always forget everything” ect. The young lad was quite obviously humiliated which made the atmosphere awkward. No one should be treated like that especially in a working environment. The food was nice but it wasn’t as enjoyable as it should have been due to the verbal abuse in the background. The drinks were severely overpriced for a small coke it was £3.80

We have visited Purple Diamond many times , never disapointed with the service or the food . Looking forward to our next visit real soon .

Decent food. Incredibly rude staff on the phone. A little bit of customer service can go a long way.

I phoned up to order for my grandfather as he is not great at using technology. Was quoted £6 more for my meal than if I had ordered online. When I spoke to the staff they were very rude replying what do you do you want me to do? I don't own it. Appalling place taking advantage of elderly people and people who aren't able to order online for any reason. After leaving the staff then called me to inform me I was no longer welcome there and were very rude in general.

How is this still open? Middle of my chicken was literally fridge cold and very stringy so its cheap, thought I'd try again after last year and it's really bad. Never again.

Me and my wife have been looking for a chinese restaurant that actually does gluten free options for ages! I can eat gluten but my wife is intollerant and near enough all chinese restaurants/takeaways contain gluten and appears that most are not willing to do GF options. Found purple diamond on the off chance and literally everything we ordered could be made gluten free. Whatsmore, you honestly couldn't taste any difference between the GF options and non GF (from what i've had in the past). We've only had takeaways from here, but upon collecting the food, the restaurant always seems to have a nice vibe to it and always seems like people are eating there throughout the week. (always a good sign!) Overall great tasting food, good menu, and a perfect chinese for anyone with Gluten sensitivites or even Vegan options if thats your thing also. They do appear to cater for all!

Ordered last night, food was not good at all, salt and pepper chips were terrible, batter all soggy off the chicken balls, all round flavourless. I've been ordering for a while now and had a few that wernt great but this was the worsed one. Time to try somewhere else!!

Absolutely terrying food completely tasteless

Disappointed. Young lad serving was not polite. Held glasses at top (where u drink from) had fingers in bowls when he put them on table. Had to ask for cutlery, which he handed again with his hands again on the bit that goes in your mouth. The young girls were lovely and helpful. Food however was very nice. Service put us off.

Been to this restaurant many times for good few years, has changed slightly since covid- hasn't everything. But foods still amazing, staff still lovely. But changes are mainly menu wise. Still great choices to be had and still good variety. Forgot to get photos as we all dug in 🤣

Food was amazing, everything so fresh and tasty, not to mention that there was loads of it. We ended up taking main dishes as take away as we were so full from the starters. Cocktails are great and unusual recipes. Service was excellent! We'll definitely be back next time we're in March.

Gluten and dairy free - ordered takeaway after finding they cater for dietary requirements. To avoid confusion, I ordered everything gf/df and everything was spot on. Came well labeled and lovely & hot. Even those not needing gf/df said they would order that way again. Ate far too much but was so nice to eat Chinese confidently and not be ill. Will be sure to return soon.

Fantastic meal. Our entire party was extremely impressed with the service and the food. The staff couldn’t do enough for us and the the banquet was excellent. Great choice and amazing vegetarian menu. We will be returning very soon.

Taken out for surprise anniversary meal, service a tad slow although we did have a few allergy sufferers so may of had an influence otherwise very good friendly staff, they had provided a balloon and a banner as well as a cake at the end of the evening.

Superb menu system that provided a range of wonderful dishes. Combined with the excellent service I highly recommend this restaurant.

Very poor communication both between staff and to customers. Sign on door states open until 11:00pm and several customers still eating in the restaurant. Went in at 10:20 pm and lady took our order for a take away. However, before we had a chance to pay, another member of staff came to the doorway, called lady over and told her to cancel our order as they had already started cleaning the kitchen so would not cook. Highly embarrassed lady apologised and we left disappointed and took our business elsewhere.

Went there for a birthday dinner and food was fabulous - freshly cooked and super tasty! They also catered for gluten free - and again, that was excellent!! Very reasonably priced - will be returning

I ordered via phone for gluten free and dairy free. I was amazed how much they could cater for allergens, and it was clearly labelled on collection. First time in over 20 years I have had chicken balls which I adored. Thank you for catering so well. I will be back for more.

Bit of a story to this one but want to explain the situation in full. We ordered £80 worth of food to be delivered 1.5 miles from the restaurant, 10 minutes drive away. We were charged £6.50 for delivery and paid the driver £100 so that's a £13.50 tip roughly for the driver. So then this is where the service given becomes appalling. The food delivered was the wrong dishes and to add to it we were sent one rice dish with "Lucy is annoying :)" in permanent marker on the inside of the lid which had soaked into the rice. Reluctantly and unapologetically we were offered replacement dishes which showed up 20ish minutes later - once again the wrong items were sent, the rest of the food was cold and we were having to phone again. This time they're sorry for the issue and would send out more. 20 minutes pass they call back to tell us they're not bringing the food again, we're too far away and it's not worth their hassle - so now we're all sitting around a table of cold food some with ink in it and absolutely nothing to show for it. After a long and drawn-out painful discussion about it, we were told they would refund £81 of the order but my address now is blacklisted from the restaurant and so am I. They were sorry for THEIR mistake but I would be the one penalised for it. Anyway, lesson learnt, use literally any other restaurant in the area - not to mention the interior of the restaurant if you drop in for a chat looks like it's falling to bits.

We just had probably the worst Chinese takeaway we have ever had, and I’ve eaten in Birmingham… Ordered and delivered on time, from there it all went south. The pork (?) dish had 2 tiny slithers of meat on top of some horrible gloopy mess of a sauce. The spare ribs were literally painted bones, not even a CSI could find any trace of meat. The prawn crackers were soggy and black in places, inedible. The special fried rice had zero anything but rice in the container. It seemed old and hard. The chicken balls were more like sparrows balls. Tiny, dry and lacked any kind of flavour. The whole lot was cold to add insult to injury… I’ll upload photos so you can see for yourselves. I called to give feedback and the girl who answered the phone literally said “Sorry about that”. I guess the complaints must be numerous and she just switches off to them now. No wonder places are struggling to make a living if they dish up a mess like this. Utterly horrendous. Avoid at all costs if I were you.

This is the second time a group of 10+ attended Food was mediocre, chicken was dry and beef chewy. Definitely not worth the £35 per head price although company was good. When bill came forgot to take off £55 deposit. Toilets not clean and no loo roll. Have had far better food at other Chinese restaurants On a positive side, we have enjoyed eating from them for takeaway meals.

Unfortunately my wife came down with food poisoning after ordering take away from here. It’s a shame as we’ve eaten in the restaurant in the past and had an OK meal, the tofu in the hot clay pots was good compared to typical British style Chinese dishes and absolutely has to be cooked through.

Went for our anniversary made special by the staff very welcoming the was food very nice. When we got there had a balloon saying happy anniversary and when we finished our meal they came out with a chocolate cheese cake with a indoor firework.

Absolutely lovely Chinese food. Great to be able to order online unlike the other Chinese takeaway outlets in the area. We always have a takeaway from here now. Delivery service always great too and not too long to wait for.

The food was fantastic well done

Was recommended to try this place as my husband is gluten free and hasn't been able to have a proper Chinese meal since diagnosis years ago.... the long and the short of it is this may be the best Chinese food (with or without gluten!) we have EVER had! They were so helpful in catering for the gluten free side and we both enjoyed our meals enormously. The food was ready to collect when they said it would be, was fresh, hot and delicious. And free prawn crackers too which most places don't do any more! Can't wait to try the other dishes on the menu, only downside is we now have takeaway temptation back in our lives 🤣Can't recommend highly enough - would give more stars if possible!

So disappointed this evening had been 6 months since previous visit and standard had dropped dramatically. Most of what we had was edible. Salt and pepper prawn starter turned up as tempura prawn. Asked for starter with rice to come with the main course for friend who only wanted a light meal but this was served with the other starters. Meaning she could only watch us eat for the remainder of the evening. The thai green curry i sent back, beef was like chewing on tough leather and the insipid green curry sauce it came in, can only be described as resembling a bowl of snot! Think we would have enjoyed a frozen iceland chinese ready meal more. On the plus side, the young girl serving was pleasant and polite and did offer an alternative which we declined. Wont hurry back.

Told me 30 minutes but was ready in 10 minutes and when I got it home it was disgusting couldn't eat it my wife and her friend couldn't eat it either.last time we went it was ok but not going again.

Amazing gluten-free options, very experienced in catering for coeliacs and just like I remember Chinese takeaways being! Never any complaints from non-GF people either.

Not the best, at all. We were hungry for a good Chinese meal & we didn’t get it from here. Everything was very subpar, outside of the young lady who served us. She was very nice. The curry dish was soupy with cold mushrooms, the stir fry was also very soupy, very little veg & once again the mushrooms were cold. The containers seeped sauce out from the bottom everywhere.

Great food. Good staff with a sense of humour. Always enjoy but this visit was spoiled for us by screaming children - not the fault of the establishment but disrupted our family celebration.

My partner wanted to take me somewhere special after my illness. From the start it was disappointing, they appeared not to have our reservation. Once we were eventually at a table -very small - We were asked about drinks, eventually we were asked for our starters requirements, then to be told that one order was not available...so spring rolls were ordered instead, disappointing. Then to be told they had run out of spring rolls....WHAT???? We should have left then but stuck it out....long story a bit shorter the food was obviously frozen and fried or microwaved, definitely not what we had hoped for. £50 wasted will not be returning. Very disappointing.

*Update April 2022* Went back there last night with my son. Both the quality and the quantity of the buffet menu have gone down markedly. A few years ago this place was great, now I would rate it as one of the worst Chinese restaurants in March. Originally great tasting dishes would come with carved birds made of carrot and other garnish, now the inferior food has tired and limp garnish with little effort. Real shame. Will never go back there.

6 of us went for a meal here on a Friday night service was excellent, food very good and we were not rushed. Well done would certainly go back.

Went for dinner tonight 28/1/2022 was very disappointed, we had the first course which was a mixed starter very good, then waited over 40 minutes for the next course of duck, when it come out it was or looked like a single person serving and was cold. When we asked about it the lady who was in charge came out and was very rude and disrespectful to me, I asked for the bill and they wanted to charge me full price, I challenged it and was told to just pay for the drinks which was 10.50 for 3 cokes we will not be going back

Bit of a disaster really. First ever take away order. The egg fried rice was plain rice with a bit of overcooked egg and the rice was stuck together. The plain chow mien had no onion in it and was very greasy. I ordered two spring rolls but they didn’t arrive with the order and they couldn’t guarantee delivering them any time soon so I am expecting a refund through the letterbox round about 11 pm. The seaweed was nice but very greasy and the free prawn crackers were in an unsealed bag. That’s about it except to say that hopefully next time I want a Chinese, my regular take away’s phone won’t be permanently engaged!

Took my wife and Daughter 16/10/21 what a disappointment long wait before first course The mixed starter didn’t look appetising didn’t get what we actually asked for the “seaweed” actually LOOKED like cabbage very oily not nice, then another long wait for the main course, the plain noodles were burnt had to be replaced the egg fried rice looked more like boiled rice with little bit of egg main course meals had very little sauce almost dry Cannot see me going back in a hurry

I booked for my son’s 21st birthday, we were a party of 6. When booked I was asked if it was for a special occasion. When we arrived our table was decorated with a 21st helium balloon, 21st confetti and happy birthday banner, it was a lovely touch. We had a lovely meal from the 3 course set menu and at the end one of the staff came out with a huge chocolate birthday cake and candles. That personal touch made the night. Thank you to all the staff at Purple Diamond, very efficient and friendly and go that extra mile to make your night a good one, certainly a credit to the restaurant. Great food and a lovely atmosphere, we’ll return again and would thoroughly recommend. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

First time here, having just moved to March and enjoyed the food as my partner is Chinese he said it was good. Served on small dishes but you can order 8 starters [ 4 each I think ] 2 main dishes each, not swimming in sauce either which is good. The staff were very polite and friendly so yes we will be back again

AVOID!!! This has to be the worst place I've ever had the displeasure to deal with. We had placed out order and around 2 hours later it arrived cold and the noodle where like rubber, I phoned them and they offered to send out new meals 30 minutes later another batch turned up now much hotter than the first but they then substituted one meal for something completely different without telling us (as it happens my partner now still didn't have a meal she could eat) again I phoned them and they replied with well can't you heat up the meal we delivered first. Rambling on I know, I again phoned them and they refused to refund me the nearly £30 however where happy to offer me one meal free on my next order. The reason they refused me a refund was because they said I hadn't returned the previous food, so I loaded up the food into bags and took it back, after a good few discussions with managent I was eventually give a refund but only after being told I had wasted a lot of food, not forgetting if it was cooked correctly the first time it wouldn't have been wasted. You really couldn't make this up please save your money and go else where!!!!

Last night me and my parents ordered from here. And we can all honesty say... that it was the worst Chinese we've ever had. The crispy duck was so over cooked and dry That you literally had to break off the skin to get any meat for it. The curry my mum got was cold and looked more like a curry jelly. My dad had a chow mein that was nothing but noodles and two tiny pieces of meat, with literally no flavour at all. What I had was cold, greasy and the chips were obviously cooked a few times before they were given to us. I wouldn't normally leave a review like this, but it was genuinely the worst we've had. And even worse that it was for my dad's birthday. I spent over £50 for something we threw in the bin. If someone could get in touch with me about a refund, that would be great. You've lost customers today.

My wife and me were looking forward to a lovely takeaway as a special treat but we were very dissatisfied with it . Apart from being late on delivery the lid had came of the sauce and the chicken chow mein was discusting went straight in the bin won't be ardering again.

If you want to buy the fake Chinese of froze not fresh food.... This is the place.... I have eaten in many Chinese restaurants and this one is not even close to original Chinese food..... The food doesn't look fresh and doesn't taste Chinese at all.... Ordered for the all family.... Very disappointed.... Its a waisted money....That's was a first time at this restaurant... And the last... Will never ever order from them again... Feels like 40 quid to the bin.... .. Do not recommend at all...

Just had a take away throw lock down an not happy at all chicken dish full of prawns good definitely been cooked b4. Sad as I've had some good meals from here but that was horrible wifes 50 birthday to...tried to call to speak phone constantly engaged. Never again.

We used their app to order food at 7:00pm. We asked for a 7:50 delivery, on order confirmation we were told it would be at 8:50. At 10:00pm, still waiting we decided to chase our order - yer sorry, we think our app crashed. Do you want a refund? What an absolutely insane question to ask someone who has been sat around for three hours waiting for food. Not one apology, no offer to rush the order out - they really didn't care they had spoilt a customer's evening. Avoid.

Ordered food via app, food was ordered at 18.10 received text at 19.13, to say food was out for delivery, rang at 19.40 to be told food hadn’t left the restaurant, and the text is automated message, and to ignore it!! food eventually arrived at 20.05. Food was cold and sub standard.

Don't go here if you're vegetarian or have seafood allergies!!! Staying in March so I called in for a takeaway. Kung po mushrooms, egg fried rice, veggie spring rolls. Veggie spring rolls turn out to be... chicken spring rolls. Kung po mushroom is... mushroom in oyster sauce. And I've walked home with it so I have to eat it... absolutely appalling

Very poor service, shockingly long wait to be served after a 15 min wait to be shown to the pre booked table,had the set meal which was more than double the price if we'd had a take away, the food its self was okay but nothing special,will not be returning and will not miss the experience.would rate less than one star if possible.

Tried for the first time tonight ... sadly disappointing. Chicken very tough and satay chicken dish looked caked in gravy. Tasted better from Sainsburys ready meals.
