Pure North Cider Press Cafe in Kirklees

A great mexican dish for lunch with excellent cider in the (small) main cafe. In the height of summer there's a conservatory area. Quirky and interesting, very friendly staff.

I visited the cafe with my daughter, my granddaughter and my dog. The service was excellent and we were made very welcome. Staff checked on us to see if we had everything we needed. The menus is good and the food delicious. Everything is cooked to order, yes there may be a “slight” wait but that shows how fresh it is and I’d rather have home cooked fresh food. We will definitely be back.

My partner and I visited yesterday for lunch. The visit didn’t start well as just as we were about to walk in, nobody acknowledged us. A waitress saw us and walked straight past us without so much of a look. We had to ask where to sit and reply was “wherever it doesn’t matter” so we sat in the back room. Food ordered and took a long time to come. We were never asked if we wanted any sauces or anything and nobody checked if the meal was ok during. Food was ok but nothing to write home about. While waiting, staff were sat down talking about how many instagram/tik tok followers they had and taking the mick out of each other. Yes fair enough to talk to your work mates but personally I wouldn’t do it in earshot of customers. They were then asking each other if they think they should check on the other customers (but didn’t) None of the staff were friendly or welcoming and no thank you when we paid the bill. Finally, one waitress sat down folding napkins on a table full of dirty plates that was probably a metre away from us. The drink I was served was warm and served in a dirty glass. Wouldn’t go back or recommend.

Sadly I have to give a poor review. Whilst the food was “adequate” the service was abysmal. The waiting staff knew nothing about the very basic menu, food presented with no cutlery, no effort made to clear dirty plates in what was one of the hottest days of the year. No effort to ask if order was ok or any wish to order additional food. Asked for the bill …. Was just told the amount no itemisation .. I never give bad reviews but I am incensed regarding the attitude of the staff. I have never had a bad experience before this visit please up your standards to what they were!!!

Over priced and over hyped. The food is nothing to write home about and the pricing requires an upgrade on your mortgage. Typical modern nonsense of Jamie Oliver era. Bread is bread, ham is ham come on give this nation a break. Oh to live in the Holme valley. Bless us.

Only a small place with limited tables inside. Good selection of basic well- cooked foods and variety of drink. Loved the dhal and they obliged with bacon& halloumi sandwich.

We popped in here for a quick drink and some fruit toast today. Service, toast and cider were good. I've dropped a star as the table was covered in fine grit and all the furniture looked like it needed a good clean. Also having an A4 menu in a smallish font (yes I'm over 50) stuck to the back wall made it awkward for us to read it. We took a photo in the end as it was easier. Apart from that it was all OK.

Having lived here for years and tried all the cafes and casual restaurants in the Holme Valley - this is honestly the best. Imaginative and varied food, friendly and attentive staff - including some youngsters, who I am glad to see working, who were professional, careful, accurate and pleasant. My salad nicoise with generous seared tuna steaks was less than £9 and given the prices charged at other places in the area for pizza, pasta and sandwiches with cheap ingredients, this place is extremely good value. Delicious deserts - made on the premises, no cheating tray bakes bought in. Cider and apple juice from their press. Garden seating. Inside, partly outside. My new go to lunch out. If I only had one negative it'd be that I'd love to take my children here after school, but along with the other cafes and garden centres etc, it seems to close at 4 :0(

Went for cider and a lunch, the food is really foos (pulled pork sandwich and ceasar salad and roasted new potatoes). Serice was really good, the staff chatty and friendly and attentive (asking if we wanted more drinks when ours were empty as we were sat outside). Also very good coffee. Very nice place to spend a few hours

Though the cafe closes at 4.00 do not expect to get a coffee after 3.45. We ordered about 3.40 to be told 10minutes later the machine had been cleaned down so no hot drinks available. Sad as we were looking forward to coffee and cake.

Nice food, great location, dog friendly and the choice to sit indoors or out. I’m a regular and have recommended to others. It’s disappointing though that several times now I have visited and it has been closed. Today, Saturday 8th January 2022 I have set off on a family walk in the rain to visit at the end. Only to see everything closed with a sign on the door saying it should be open today 10-5. You’re going to loose customers !!

Very disappointed. Despite asking if we should pre order, and being assured not necessary there was insufficient pie of choice for our party. The food was luke warm and unappealing. If they do another pie night make sure to pre order

we didn't book a table but the staff were very accommodating . the outside area is pleasant and rustic but the food is excellent I wonderful country eatery.

Chanced upon this lovely cafe and enjoyed lunch with cider... so refreshing to encounter a different range of dishes and delightful ciders. This is a must on many levels and the service was perfect. Ruth

Lovely food, carefully prepared and presented. The young girls serving were so polite and it was a pleasure. I’m local and it was my first visit. I will definitely be returning. Prices are reasonable too.

First visit here today for coffee and cake with a friend. Friendly, fast service and excellent cake. Will be back soon.

Visited the cafe and cider press some time ago, keen to return today since we had enjoyed the food very much on our first visit.Good coffee and food was excellent, freshly cooked and nicely presented. Varied and interesting menu unfortunately we didn’t have room for a cake, maybe next time.

We really enjoyed some rare sun at the outdoor seating here. The choices of food for lunch were so tempting. The caesar salad was just fantastic ..spicy chicken and lovely zingy fresh salad...home made croutons...the roasted new potatoes were a brilliant success..perfect and generous portion. The chicken and chorizo casserole was really tasty and plenty of meat. Coffee was a delight and a cheeky piece of bakewell. Absolutely brilliant x

I visited the cafe today with some friends. The location is nestled away, but very we’ll sign posted and has parking nearby. The Staff were friendly and seemed approachable. They have a wide range of food options as well as some great ciders. Will definitely be visiting again.

We experienced lovely tasty food and friendly staff at the cafe when we visited on bank holiday Monday. It was a really pleasant visit and one which will be repeated.

Fabulous cakes, coffee and food in delightful surroundings, with friendly and accommodating service- a real gem of a place!

This is the second time we have been to the cider press since lockdown. What a little gem it is. The owner and staff are very friendly. Plenty of places to sit with social distancing in mind. Hand sanitizer before you enter. We got there early as it was opening, ordered a sausage and bacon sandwich with a coffee. It was lovely, well worth the visit. I would recommend this place to everybody.

We just popped in for lunch as we were passing through the area. If I hadn't have researched before our trip you would never know the cafe existed if you weren't local. Great choice of ciders as expected. The lunch was really tasty - my husband enjoyed his pulled pork bun and the halloumi and Med veg chilli wrap was delicious. Excellent food and great value. Seats inside, conservatory and outside. Hand san station before entering but no track and trace/temp checks/masks/single use menus and not much social distancing by the customers coming inside to order. We did buy a couple of beers and cider to take away but not much upsell!

Went for lunch on Saturday with a vegan and another person who is gluten free. All dietary needs well catered for as they have gluten free bread and a couple of vegan options. Friendly service, great wines and cider and the food was delicious. Even had vegan cupcakes (amazing apparently) and gf choices for dessert. Great value for money. Highly recommend it.

Used to be a regular visitor here and loved the place. Not been for a while but went again today - such a shame - no wonder the place was empty - the customer service is very poor - it looks like people are voting with their feet.

It’s been a while since we visited the cider press so we went today . Having heard mixed reviews since it changed hands I was determined to make up my own mind. Well here goes .... the customer service was really lacking !! We were ignored by two of the staff for the first 20 minutes who came and went managing to completely avoid our eye !!!! Eventually another waiter arrived to take our order and normality resumed we were then delivered our drinks and food in reasonable time . We both ordered the Coddy’s lamb burgers which were very nice .Please listen to this and improve your customer service because I actually like this place I notice you now hand out loyalty cards - the previous owners didn’t need to - the place was always busy !

Here with my fella. We’ve just had the lamb burger and pulled pork sandwich. Both very lovely. Nice portion size. Didn’t go for the cake but we’ll be back for them. Also a top cup of tea.

Today was my first visit since the changeover. I have heard mixed report but decided to try for myself. The welcome was ok but not particularly cheerful. Our order was taken and brought promptly. Unfortunately the tea was weak due to the water being not hot enough. I asked for a new pot which was brought with no concern or apology. My friend’s soup was delicious and piping hot. I order pork pie and mushy peas. The pie was barely warmed and cold in the middle. The peas were stiff and dry. I took my meal to the kitchen and the same meal was brought back, having been microwaved to a reasonable heat. Again, no real concern or apology. No offer to compensate in any way. My friend had cake and we both had coffee, which was excellent. In all, a mixed experience which, I’m afraid I can’t repeat. The staff are perfectly nice but seriously lacking in customer service skills. I found myself doing the apologising.. The food knowledge needs to improve.

Last night my wife&two really good friends had a great evening at the Cider Press,It was a "Pie Night",the food was really good the atmosphere relaxed&really comfortable,special mention for the Sticky Toffee Pudding which had been recommended&didn't disappoint.The staff were attentive without being intrusive&the chef Neil really does produce some really good food.To the point where I am having my 70th birthday party there in January.I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.Les Winter.

We have supported the Ciderpress over the years and have always enjoyed friendly, responsive service and great food. Sadly not today. We thought we would visit under the new team. Our arrival wasn't even acknowledged by the person taking orders and a chap who arrived after us but clearly known to the them received his drink and food before we'd even had our order taken. After 10 mins we decided to leave as there was no indication of when our order would be taken and then how long to be served. Some work is needed - sadly we won't be back.

Been Before. Not as much choice. Food Ok. Cider still good. Other places in area better. Disappointing.

Again. not disappointed but not as busy as last time. You would of course expect this as it was not a Bank Holiday Weekend. Food Still good and another pleasant lunch. We must try it in the evening before the weather starts to deteriorate.

A big champion of the Cider press in times gone by. Gave it another try today after the new team took over hoping it would be back to it's former glory, sadly not. Lacking atmosphere and good customer service. My friends meal was ok but mine not so much. Did inform them discreetly but not much interest back unfortunately. Too far to travel not to have a good experience. Hopefully it will improve and they make a success of it. Good luck for the future.

It was Bank Holiday Monday and as the weather was splendid we decided to go towards Holmfirth taking the Wood-head Road out of Mottram in Longdendale. Entering Home and just past the Church we came across this eatery. So we parked on the car park and went inside. It was extremely busy which is a nice surprise. The staff were superb and extremely friendly, they soon found us a table and the food provided was excellent, and we will certainly tell our friends and call in here again.

Went for breakfast yesterday. It was really good! Great coffee too (bean brothers). Not had lunch there yet but menu looks great, and cakes look delicious. Will be back very soon

A quick call by for a spot of Breakfast,The place has had a splash of paint brightening up the decor, Food & Service was Excellent with nothing too much trouble. A great Menu & the Food was well cooked & very tasty.Great selection of Ciders from Pure North & also plenty of Local beers in the new beer fridge.Such a Gem of a cafe that’s a little off the beaten track BUT well worth searching out.

Enjoyed a Bacon & egg breakfast sandwich and cappuccino here this week. Great little place, off the beaten track but worth a visit. Nice to meet the new owner too. Looking forward to our next visit... maybe on one of the Bistro nights.

Had a lovely breakfast sandwich and Cappacino. Relaxing small cafe , surrounded by beautiful countryside. New owner , talented chef I'm sure it will be a great success . Will be sure to call in again . Checking out the new Bistro themed night's too , sound great .

Arrived late afternoon on a lovely summer's day as a party of 5. Great choice of beverages available so we all tried something different, all of which tasted fantastic. Love the outside seating area. Brilliant to have this place so close to home.

This used to be our favourite place to eat but the menu is nowhere near as interesting as it used to be and the prices have gone up.

Called in at the weekend to what was our favourite Sunday go to place. On arrival we was so surprised how empty it was at nearly lunch time, then we noticed many of our favourites had been taken off menu ( the reason we travel so far) price's increased and most of the lovely ladies had left so it just didn't feel the same. We came away not having eaten so can't comment on the food. Hope the new owner makes a success of it but for us too much has gone so we sadly won't return. Miss you already old Cider press.

Excellent staff, wonderful cider in a beautiful location. The granddaughter was most impressed with the cake selection. Well worth a visit !

Great sunny afternoon walk over from Honley to the cider press, the food has always been good and so we were looking forward to our meal. The cafe was busy, the location lovely as always and the tables in the sun, we sat outside. The menu has significantly reduced and actually has no theme or organisation. When our food arrived - Mediterranean platter and a hot beef sandwich - we were disappointed by the small portions and the increase in prices of the whole menu. As of the previous reviews, the drinks were good but not cold. Really disappointing as we have always enjoyed walking over with the dogs, won’t be back for some time and when we do it will just be for a drink to start with.

We came here on the off chance as we were viewing some house around the corner. What a lovely place. Beautiful home cooked food with amazing cakes and really friendly staff. We will defiantly come again.

The food here was lovely-surprising amount of veggie/ vegan options which is a plus for some of my family.It’s very small inside and on a warm day we sat in the canopy area and soon began to cook ourselves... couldn’t sit completely outside as the picnic tables were already full and we weren’t allowed to sit round the side of the building.It suddenly became very busy just after 12 and everywhere was full so it’s obviously popular...but we wouldn’t rush back.

This is our go-to place in Holmfirth. We are rarely regulars anywhere, but we are here. We love the ciders, especially the Spiced & the new Ginger Tom (please get some more in), and combined with the food we have never been disappointed. I just love their GF pork & apple pie - there is a non GF version too. It is absolutely delicious. I could order other GF meals from the menu too, and it is lovely to have the choice. We look at other eateries, especially new ones that pop up, and know that the Cider Press will be very hard to beat, for quality, value and the genuine welcome from a family run business. Oh yes, the staff - delightful. If you are GF you will know how limited eating out can be, and there is a lot of trust involved too. Your trust won't be misplaced here.

Rob gave us a very informative tour and made us feel welcome on a chilly January afternoon. The ciders on offer were first class - would highly recommend for any cider lovers out there. Aside from the cider, a nice cosy/relaxed café atmosphere in a lovely setting. Will definitely go again.

We were out for a walk starting at Holmfirth and this place was conveniently halfway. Would be lovely here in summer with the outdoor seating. We just had coffee and cake which was very nice. Imagine it’s a very popular place due to the amount of walkers passing by.

Came here for lunch with a group of friends. I chose the lamb burger. On this occasion it was a little dry and overcooked. The other's meals were of the usual good standard, so obviouvsly only a blip. The cider finished things off well though!!

Lovely cafe with the craft beers and ciders on site. I don't drink so it was tea 4 2 , sandwiches on brown and lovely cakes. I must stop eating like this after losing 20 stones in 3 yrs it will be back again. Staff are friendly and welcoming. There is a nice view outside.

Pure North Cider Press Cafe is a little gem tucked away in Netherthong below the cider orchard. The food is great, there's a wide and varied selection of delicious home made snacks, cakes and more substantial meals. Its hard to decide what to choose. Add a glass of 'valley gold' cider........relax and enjoy!

It was a delight to visit the Cider Press, the hospitality and atmosphere was extremely welcoming. Staff were extremely friendly and went out of their way to accommodate our requests. The cider was lovely and the food sumptuous and delicious and the vegetarian options fabulously tasty. It was a pleasure to finally find this little gem in the heart of beautiful rolling Yorkshire countryside so much so that I had to return again the next day! Highly recommended.

Went with a group for a pre arranged visit to the orchards and the cider press,brewing area.Our guide was very knowledgeable about types od apples and their history.This was followed by a meal and I had the pork and apple pie with roast potatoes and veg, delicious!Only giving a VG because the external dining area was very cramped,the inside area looked better and was busy.

I have been with friends for lunch three times now and have thoroughly enjoyed the veggie chilli and the feta and roasted veg wrap. The menu changes and seems all home cooked. There is an array of cakes to choose from afterwards. It is dog friendly in the front entrance and very accommodating to young children. The only down side is it is quite small so there isn't a lot of room to move about when you have an active toddler.

Great informal little place ideal for popping in for a light lunch and a nice drink. Lamb burgers are very tasty served in ciabatta or multigrain bread. Sausages are tasty too. Bought cider to take away, pleased with that too. Altogether, an enjoyable experience.

We love this little cafe but today it was poor no other word for it. The place was fairly quite on a Wednesday afternoon so didn’t think there would be a problem with waiting or cooking. Although we have been at weekend when it is very busy and the food is still spot on.We ordered our meals and a portion of potatoes.My wrap came the bottom of the wrap was covered in a pink water like sauce so the wrap was soaking wet. When I asked the waitress if it could be changed all I got was the same food less most of my salad and half a new wrap. There was no recognition that the whole wrap had been wet. I should had a new compete meal prepared and served .....disappointing. They forgot the potatoes and when we have finished eating they brought out the postatoes and said do you want them in an overly cheery voice. My husband always has the lamb burger which he said was dry and tasteless. This is the first time we have been in the week, perhaps there is a different cook/ staff on but overall a very disappointing experience. No one asked if we had enjoyed our lunch as I think they knew the answer.

Stopped here for a lunch break in the middle of a five mile walk. As always plenty of choice and interesting menu. Lovely ciders produced here also.

We were out walking and came across this lovely cafe. There was lots of choices of delicious things to eat I had the chilli and it was lovely. The staff very very friendly and made us feel welcome. We will be visiting again soon

After reading the reviews on trip advisor, I thought this was a must go to place for a light lunch. So when my Mum came over to see us and wanted to take us to lunch we decided to go.

I keep saying this but we just love it here. We are regulars and don’t always write a review, but we should because this place is special. We went last week, probably go today too. Food is so delicious & especially gluten free. We miss the spiced cider but that’s because it’s so good they have sold it all ! The staff are all lovely, and nothing’s too much trouble. This is one of those rare places where you want to keep going back, because everything there is just so great.

Lovely food, fantastic little place to walk to with the dogs and sit on the decking. Friendly and attentive staff, highly recommended.

Came for lunch. It was crowded but worth the wait. Staff was friendly and helpful. Invited to take a peak into the back where they make the cider. Small but efficient operation. Lunch was the best! Pie was moist and tasty, gravy to pour over potatoes was so good I wanted to drink it, and the cider went well with our meal.

We’re lucky to live nearby and regularly stop at the cider press on our way back from a walk. The staff are friendly, there’s always a nice atmosphere and the cider with homemade elderflower cordial is the perfect thirst quencher after a few miles of walking. The cakes are delicious, we need to schedule a lunchtime stop soon.

Came here last weekend as we saw it was rated very highly on trip advisor, however, we thought the food was very average. I ordered a chicken and chilli jam wrap, it looked huge when it came but it was mainly full of salad and the chicken was on the dry side. My partner had a ploughman’s platter which looked good but actually lacked meat! Would go again for a drink, the apple juice was actually delicious!

Had a lovely breakfast with family. We all had something different and were happy with the quality of each. All the staff were very friendly and both food and drinks were served in a timely fashion. I need to go back another day for a cider tasting session!

We went on Saturday all the tables were full we wasn’t bothered lovely hot day said we would wait had two cold bottles some one was going the lovely lady said they would move some tables some drinks only some not any way sat for a wile and ////:: ( some one bam sat at the free table my self wasn’t impressed to be fair any way not wonting to make a fuss ended up with a small table in the back very hot and sticky bum etc the food was to die for worth the wait the service excellent cud do with numbers or something for people to get a table well waiting for others or rude people push rite in we’re definitely going back hopefully get a nicer table all in all well worth a visit staff lovely food excellent

Been here a few times and the food is always excellent, it has been consistently good the many times we have been, we have had a few disappointments recently with food in Holmfirth but this is one of the staples we can always rely on, here and Philomena Foggs serve the best quality food in Holmfirth both are my equal favourites.

Went saturday lunch first time. Service was good and food was good. Portions ok but at above average prices were acceptable. We didnt really find the seating abundant and sitting on bench in tarmac not really idillic. As aspect for improvement to 5 stars as there are better places locally

Heard about his place on the grapevine and took my Mum for lunch one Saturday. It’s a lovely little place, the food is superb with a nice menu, plenty of choice including veggie options. They had soya milk which was a bonus and the service was also really good. My Halloumi salad was delicious and the bowl of roast potatoes was a nice addition. Mum had a spinach and feta parcel which was also yummy all finished off with guiness chocolate cake which was delicious.

Tucked away behind Netherthong you could easily miss this place and it’s only thanks to Trip Advisor that we discovered its existence.

Very pleasant cafe with a good and extensive menu of home made food and good cider. Service a little chaotic and disorganised on the day we were there; and as a personal preference would have preferred chilled cider on a warm day. Limited outdoor seating.

Well what a lovely place first visit would i return yes defiantly. The food was lovely the staff very friendly. How anyone found the place in the first place amazes me but so pleased I know about it now.

I visited this lovely hidden gem yesterday for brunch. I had a homemade sausage sandwich and it was delicious. The staff were so helpful and it was such a lovely environment. Will definitely be returning .

The Cider Press is, literally, on my doorstep, so it is handy equally for a quick latte or a lovely lunch. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food is always of a high standard. It is prepared freshly on the premesis, but waiting slightly longer at busy times is not a problem for me. Dogs are welcome on the decking area. The wood burner is always roaring in the winter and there is outdoor seating in the summer.

A great cafe in Deanhouse, a short walk from the heart of Netherthong. The food is brilliant and quick, highly recommend.

I first review the cider press at the start of the year. I went again a couple of weeks ago with my husband who is a bit picky. I can not even remember what we had, but I do know it was amazing. The food is so fresh and well executed. It’s a lovely location and the setting is intimate. It’s genuinely somewhere you don’t want to review as it’s amazing to have as a secret. We will be back, soon and indeed often. Staff amazing, food amazing, location amazing !

We have been several times to the Cider Press and the food is always very good, freshly made with fast efficient service and the staff are very friendly and welcoming, there is a semi-outside porch section where you can take dogs and although its a bit cold they have heaters and blankets. Can highly recommend.

Home prepared dishes which were well cooked . Good choice main dishes, snacks and cakes .Very pleased were were taken there as it is not so easy to find.

Went with a friend for lunch today and it was lovely. Beautiful scenery. Really nice clean interior and bathroom. Our waitress was extremely friendly and attentive ensuring we were warm and tended to. Food was literally delish! Proper home made food and more than reasonable prices! Will definitely be making a habit of dining there:)

Lovely range of ciders, most brewed locally from Pure North's orchards on site. Great range of eats in the snacks, sandwiches and light meals genres. Lovely staff.

Went there yesterday. Stopped for a coffee only, but saw the Blueberry Scones. Never seen or tried a blueberry scone before. They were amazing. The staff are lovely and friendly I would recommend this place to anyone. You can just have a cuppa or cake or even a meal. Great friendly place.

I come here quite often and I always order the same thing. The ploughman’s. I always order this same thing because it’s so good. Every part of it is good. The pork pie has got better. And the cured ham is a newish inclusion and lovely. And now you get 4 cheeses! You don’t have to choose 2 from 4. You get all 4. A blue, Brie, cheddar and Red Leicester. Comes with Lily Pickle’s pickle which is delicious. It’s unbeatable. (I also had a brownie with ice cream. Fab too.) And I had a pint of cider which was lovely.

Went as a family brunch. Food was amazing and Staff very friendly highly recommend. Not commercialised which was very welcoming and authentic

It's a smashing place to sample local products in a cosy and friendly atmosphere. The hosts are very amiable and the lunchtime fare is varied enough for most. Can be full as it's not the biggest of places but be patient, it's worth it!

I've been a few time for lunch which has always been lovely and plenty of vegetarian options. I went for breakfast a few months ago and It was nice but I didn't get much in place of the bacon etc. I'd go back though it's in a nice location and good stop off when walking the dog. I'd love to see a veggie fry up/bfast on the menu though.

We are regulars here. We took a friend last Sunday. Food just as delicious as always, BFF couldn't believe how delicious all the cheeses were on the ploughmans. Hubby had bacon butty - great eating. I love trying the different ciders. I recommend this lovely place to all my friends. Oh and the staff are the best.

Visited for lunch when on a short break in the area. We both had a lamb burger which I can recommend. Very friendly staff. Nice atmosphere. Tasty cider.

Enjoyed a lovely ploughmans lunch and a couple of pints of the local cider. The service was very friendly and samples offered ahead of the all important question of which ciders to enjoy with our lunch. Everyone enjoyed their meals and we now have a gallon takeaway to enjoy.
