Visited The Dunkirk several times over the past few months and every single time we left satisfied. The place has an all round cozy atmosphere, every single staff member seem professional and friendly and the food is always beautifully presented and delicious. I can’t wait to indulge again in what this place has to offer.

Visited on Monday lunchtime. It was full and the atmosphere was great. The food was all fabulous and good value. The four of us had pigeon, belly pork, dressed crab, calves liver, turkey and fish and chips. Then treacle sponge and Bailey’s profiteroles. With four drinks to start, a lovely bottle of Pinot Noir, one espresso and a 15% tip, the bill was £200. Lynne, our waitress, was first class- friendly, funny and professional. Highly recommended.

Just returned from a fabulous lunch. Food delicious, ambiance lovely and the staff incredible. Special thanks to Lynne for her kind and friendly service. Will definitely be back and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend!

We had a late Sunday Lunch yesterday in the upstairs dining room. The food, service, drinks and ambience were of the highest standard throughout. We all enjoyed the food and were unanimous in declaring it the best and tastiest meal we've had for a very long time. Without doubt we'll be back very soon!

This was our first visit for lunch today and it was first class, from walking through the door and being greeted by friendly staff who showed us to our table. The service and the food was amazing. One of the best restaurants for miles.

Fabulous lunch at The Dunkirk today - four generations celebrating a 94th birthday. Lovely meal both adults and children- wonderful staff really helpful would thoroughly recommend.

Booked a table. Just managed to get a high table. Lovely call. Very pleasant. Person offered to give us a standard table if a cancellation took place. Top marks for that Arrived in good time. A restaurant table had become available. Offered it, we accepted and thanked staff. Went straight through. Decor great. Ambience - mainly older people, parties and couples. Sedate, quiet, reserved. Well situated table. Coats taken, prompt and attentive service. Menu is very good. (Apart from maybe the layout but that's a design thing) We had pigeon breast and the pork belly for starter. Well presented. Adequate portion (we are here to dine not to feed after all... ) And both dishes cooked beautifully. I had the pigeon and it was ever so slightly under which is the way I love it. Too many overcook game and toughen it. Flavour was good. Gamey notes present and the acidity of the sauce plus the fruitiness of the raspberries balanced it very well. My companion said the pork belly melted and had the right amount of crunch. Swiftly on to the mains. Madame had the full lobster, I had the 5oz Rump and added half a lobster for uptown surf 'n' turf! Nice to see garlic and parsley butter offered alongside the usual thermidor sauce. Good touch. My steak was almost like fillet. Soft, tender, perfectly medium rare. Our lobsters were a good size, well cooked and presented and not swimming in butter. Lobster can often be bland but The Dunkirk served them tasting of the sea. Very nice. And again, good balanced portion. Just right. Now a tiny, tiny negative. We felt, ever so slightly rushed. The atmosphere was relaxed and there were tables free so it wasn't that anyone was trying to free up a table and it could just be us.... but... it did seem like the balance between attentive service and the need to let diners pause between courses was just on the eager side. I hope this will be considered in a constructive way and perhaps looked at? Which brings me to the staff. Immaculately turned out. Lovely people. But just a little too..... detached perhaps? (I'm being tactful). Now I like to engage my servers as I respect what they do and I hate people who treat them as servants, not servers. If I get a smile, a bit of warmth and the sense that I have put them at ease then that makes my dining experience better and I hope, theirs. I tried. I am a committed people person, professionally as well as privately and I KNOW how to engage and when its not happening. We tipped. We always tip. But had the service been warmer, we would have tipped more. I will stress again - Lovely people - but with perhaps a little more engagement training and another look at how to get the best dining experience for the customer, they will be outstanding people. A very long and wordy review. Why? Because it was our first visit and it won't be our last. We went on a recommendation and it was a good one. The review is because I care. Its nice to give balanced constructive feedback as all businesses can benefit from honesty. We are giving you a 5 as a 4.9 would still be a bit mean due to something people are probably not aware of and which can easily be looked at. Visited last night for a friends party and we were served by Brooke. She was so lovely and the service from her and the other bar staff was very good. The food was also delicious and everyone enjoyed!

We went for Sunday lunch. The meat eaters really enjoyed the Sunday roast. However, we had one vegetarian in the party, the vegetarian option was nothing short of awful. In 2023 to have one option, (which was random) like it or lump it attitude for veggies is really poor.

Amazing food! Amazing service from the delightful Tarn and the phenomenal desserts were another reason to come back AGAIN. This time we had my sister over from Italy who had never eaten Bakewell tart! Anyway. We started with the Lamb Hotchpotch, which was this exquisite broth with vegetables and pearl barley. However, the barleybwas missing but we did not complain as it was truly delicious and as hearty as it sounds. Being a lover of salads, we ordered two Ceasar Salads, and a Fish Pie. The Ceasar Salad was amazing! It had a perfect, runny poached egg as well as the usual parmezan shavings, anchovies, croutons etc. Recommended! Then came the desserts. Where shall I start... The Creme Bruleé was the creamiest, most delicious one I've ever had, with a gorgeous heart-shaped strawberry shortcake on the side. The Bakewell Tart with Orange Creme Fraiche.. she described it as worth travelling more than 3000 miles for any day! Small amounts of tiny, delicate flavour of sorrel leaves went so well and were a suprising addition to the already amazing flavours. Every mouthful was a delight. 10 out of 10.

Best restaurant hereabouts. Well worth a trip to eat here. Makes any occasion feel special. There are cheaper restaurants but the Dunkirk is excellent value for excellent food and service. One visit is not enough.
