Always a pleasure visiting here. Great range of soups and reasonably priced coffee £2 or pot of tea £1.60 (Dec '18). The staff are friendly and there's a outdoor seating area which in summer is a real sun trap.

Came here for lunch and was so pleasantly surprised. Had chicken and avocado sandwich. Very good food, service and atmosphere at an affordable price. Definitely coming back. Thank you Monica.

Had butternut squash and sweet potato soup, it was fantastic! Very full flavours, not spicy but very filling. Also had a cheese and ham toastie, large and tasty! The teas are all teapigs too! Very nice would definitely recommend

This was a lovely peaceful , nicely furnished haven to get a drink in town when it was extremely busy . I sat in library corner which was lovely . The service was friendly and the coffee was very nice . The food menu was varied and had some interesting options - some people came in while I was there and asked for soup with salad instead of bread and there was no problem at all . It’s always s good sign when staff are willing to accommodate people’s requests . I will definitely return and sample the food .

Been in a couple of times, good coffee, friendly service, usually nice and quite! No complaints. Usually got a few themed coffees and cakes (like around halloween) which is cool! Good location too.

Tasty hand-crafted coffee at a low price + the friendliest service! Who needs the over-roasted impersonal coffee shop chains?

I am not a big coffee drinker but I really enjoyed their Matcha Latte. It was creamy and delicious 😍 but I believe it was a one time thing. However I have tried other matcha related things there so hopefully at some point more matcha will be available.

Popped in for a drink & cake after a long bike ride, the service was great & was warm inside. Loved the little bookcase they've got going as it gives a more sophisticated vibe about the place.

I can't comment on the food because we didn't get to eat. Called for lunch on a Saturday. The café was about half full. The waitress told us to take a table then come back to order. We sat down, and I noticed the café was very, very quiet - not even "kitchen noises" or staff chatting. It could do with a bit of background music. We chose from the menu and my husband went to order 2 bacon and brie paninis, to be told "sorry, we have no bacon...oh, hang on, it might be defrosted by now... no, it's not, sorry". I don't see how a café, in a town centre, can not have available at the start of lunchtime service something so basic, that is included in 2 or 3 of its menu items. Especially when there's a Morrisons across the street.

Fantastic little coffee shop. The staff are so friendly and love chatting with customers. Always service with a smile. Coffees are very well priced, only £1.20 for early commuters. Better coffees than these large establishments that are on every street. The cakes are divine from ProperMaid. Spotlessly clean. Always service with a smile. Perfect for a coffee pit stop or for a break from the madness of the town centre. Once you are in the big green chair you won't want to move!! If you've never visited .. You will not be disappointed.

The staff are really lovely, which makes the place. Service is quick and all the people who work there are friendly and welcoming. The food is alright, most importantly the coffee is good. Fabulous cakes. It is reasonably priced if not cheap, and they do offer a discount to students and members of the theatre next door. The cafe is always clean and bright. In summer you can sit outside in the smart Laurence Batley courtyard. I work at the uni nearby and regularly meet with people here for lunch off campus. I can never understand why people would go to a costa or nero for an inferior and overpriced coffee when we've got independent gems like this in the town. One of my favourite lunch time spots.

Always welcomed warmly, pleasant polite staff, reasonable prices. There is a chilled out atmosphere even during the busy periods. Food cooked quickly but still with attention to detail and quality. The coffees are made to the correct temperature and not scalded like other cafés in the area. The cafe is spotlessly clean and the staff are always dressed in a presentable clean style. Regular customers are obviously known and welcomed back but, new customers feel equally as important. Well done Queenie's, keep up the good work

Excellent coffee, locally sourced ingredients, friendly helpful staff, very clean and you can sit out in the adjoining Lawrence Batley Theatre courtyard weather permitting. Situated Just off the main shopping drag for a bit of sanctuary from the noise & crowds.

I've been here a few times now, having to spend an hour doing something in Huddersfield everyday to break the monotony of work. Every time, I am greeted politely and fussed around whilst I order and pick a quiet table around the corner of the cafe. The food is always lovely, prepared with care and attention to detail, so I receive exactly the same as last time, being a creature of habit this is great. The current coffee shop QoS and cleanliness are nothing like the previous greasy spoon that was here before. I tried the previous cafe on a couple of occasions and it wasn't for me. I like that the place now is spotless, proudly displaying the 5 star hygiene rating and the food is very reasonably priced for the quality you get. I'm wondering if it's subsidised somewhat by the theatre ? I have even been here on my day off to have a break from shopping and re-fuel, as it is only 30 seconds from the Kingsgate centre and I prefer shopping here rather than Halifax where I live. Much better shops. Last Saturday I spent most of the afternoon here, the atmosphere is very relaxing.

Not much to say really as is all a coffee shop should be! Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and excellent coffee! Also really well priced for drinks compared to many other places. Great for students wanting a yummy bite to eat, a wake up coffee and a place to meet off campus - there's free wifi too :) My favourite cafe in town, it really deserves every success. Have a visit and see for yourself; it wont cost much to try and I'm sure you will want to return!

Bought a sandwich from here, wasn't at all impressed. Enjoyed the food when it was the previous cafe, but seems to have gone down hill. Not sure what it was, but first mouth full and I got some fluff, like off a jumper. Few more bites and found the same. Felt pretty sick and couldn't continue eating after seeing that. Never again!

I came to Queenie's, not knowing much about the place. I got lost and stopped on in. This was my first day in Huddersfield, and the good charming young lady had superb customer service, she was a bit fast talking at first, but after slowing my thoughts down w/a cup of coffee, I got the West Yorkshire accent. I remember the door or smoke overheated, and there was smoke in the shop, they had the door wide open, like a steaming out of a castle. That moment made for the experience, as the 2 older ladies comments were funny. I wish I would have taken home some of their products. The presentation, the taste, and the overall feeling was excellent, not sex on the beach, sex on the coffee shop! If there's any one place to deliver quality other then James Vaughan on the pitch, it's Queenie's. All they need now is an open mic or an art local showcase! :)

This is a great little coffee shop near Kingsgate, really nice small menu serving great sandwich's and amazing cakes. Staff are always lovely and make a very descent coffee. It took me a while a while to find after been recommended by a friend, the only sign is in the window and it can't be seen from Kingsgate.

i have been coming here with family since the coffee shop opened in February this year. every time we come the standards are still high: good coffee and tea's, food very tasty, staff friendly, atmosphere good, clean and tidy and the art work seems to change every few weeks or so.

Title says it all really. This coffee shop is a real find. The food and beverages are top notch, far better and more personalised than the large chain's offerings. The toasted bacon and brie sandwich is a delight. Also try the range of different tea's on offer, something the Costalots of this world often neglect. One negative (struggled to find one) is the lack of a 'specials' blackboard or something displaying the fare on entering? The helpful, friendly staff are very approachable though, so you are soon up to speed with what's on offer. Thanks LBT, a great little stop-off.

Recently opened, Queenies can be found in the Lawrence Batley Theatre complex - it has a separate entrance - on Queen Street, and it shares the LBT court yard, which provides a great location, unique in Huddersfield (on warmer days, anyway !). A smallish menu that focuses on quality at very good value. Excellent fruit teas, cakes and a convivial atmosphere with friendly staff, catering for a much wider range of people than your average Huddersfield café. Lovely atmosphere for example when the theatre has a family show on, good place to meet your friends or a great place to read the paper, the excellent arts mags, or simply watch, empathetically, as students cram for their exams ! I hope that the menu broadens/deepens as the café becomes more established, and it could provide an excellent alternative bar for theatre-goers if they obtain a drinks licence. Wifi needs a tweak or two but it is free and reliable. And a great place to go after you've popped nto the box Office to buy your tickets for another show at the Arts Council 'outstanding' rated Theatre.

This little unassuming coffee shop has become a regular pit stop for me in recent months, finding Good Coffee Good Cake and Lovely Staff all under one roof is getting harder, but these guys get it right every time, always has a nice peaceful atmosphere even when busy, the Little Gem has to be the outside seating area, sitting in front of the Beautiful Lawrence Batley Theatre when the weather is half decent is an absolute Joy,think the only thing they are missing is outside seating..

The cafe is part of the Lawrence Batley theatre complex. I've been here several times since it opened, and consider it excellent. I took 3 of my adult sons recently, and they raved about the quality, particularly the bacon. We recommend the BLT and the homemade soups. For the quality it is cheap. And yes there is cake, which is also very good. Finally, the staff are friendly and helpful.

Asked for a healthy breakfast and was amazing. The place was busy which was a good sign but lots of room upstairs so finding a table was not an issue, food and drink brought to me as well. Hot Coffee which how it should be (some places luke warm) and finished the breakfast. Good priced as well.

Myself, and some family including 8 children came to vanilla bean 2 weeks back and had such a pleasant experience. We all had dinner, drinks and pudding and every single meal was lovely. My 11 year old niece had the lamb shank and she said she loved it. The lady that served us, I believe her name was Carol Was such a delight. She was so happy, lovely with the children and nothing was too much. I know the food plays a massive part in eating out but so does the staff. If I was to go to a restaurant and have rude staff it would make me not want to go back. Carol was so welcoming so thank you for that. I was Carol in a shop not long after going to vanilla bean and she recognised me from our outing to vanilla bean and again she was just so pleasant and lovely! I’d definitely say she’s a credit to this place. We will definitely be back. Thank you x

Went after looking for a local pub that we have not visited for a meal. Delighted to find this great place as not many good places around Mirfield. A very helpful landlord and great food at reasonable prices. We went around 4.30 without booking and got the last table. Recommend booking in advance. Menus varied and Sunday lunch menu looks really good so we will have to try it and feed back. Can recommend the 10oz gammon steak which comes with egg and pineapple. Also I think that the chips are homemade! They are having issues with their website but you can find menus on facebook. Give it a try and you won’t be disappointed.
