This little tea room looks a little tired. The outside seating is good but the actual cooking and serving area looks a little dirty, the blind to keep flies out looks full of dirt and is crying out to be replaced. There was someone walking around with a cloth wiping all kinds of surfaces and rinsing it in the hand wash sink, the person on drinks seemed quite unhappy in their work or was maybe having a bad day which was reflecting on their customer service. The tea was just okay, the coffees were served sharing one shot so were weak and actually not very nice as the portafilter has not been cleaned and had the remainder of the previous coffee on it. The menu states vegan, gluten free and dairy free options- in the cake counter there were none, zero. The only mink they have is soya. Other members of the party had food, one had a cheese scone which was dry and the other member had Victoria sponge which they said was lovely. I think this place needs some help to be dragged into 2023, there needs to be more choice for all people, whether lifestyle diet choice or because of intolerance. The potential is huge. I adore this garden centre and will still visit as I always have done for all my plants and trees but it would be so nice to have a lovely tea room to visit next time!

Went today and arrived at 2:05. Asked to see a menu and was told they had finished serving from the menu for the day. All they could offer were some quiches that had stood in the warm and dried up cheese scone. Two slices of cake and about four buns left. We had a quiche, which was just stuck on a plate, no garnish and a dry cheese scone. We’ll stick with Aylsham Garden Vente in the future, much better choice, friendlier staff and more choice if FRESH food! Need to up their game with the competition.

Busy on arrival with inside and outside customers. Spaced out tables. Clean surroundings. Staff polite friendly and very hard working. Drinks, tea and latte made in front of us. Good . Cheese scone very tasty and fresh. Ham and cheese toastie with crisps generous in filling. A good spot for lunch and will be visiting again. Lots of happy customers. The nurseries are quirky and full of well looked after plants. Super

I have eaten here once or twice before, before Covid. Ordered ploughman's which was okay, but came with sliced bread, which was a bit odd and also disappointing, as the "crusty bread" element of a ploughman's is one of the best bits. There were only flapjacks left, no cakes Coffee was fine, staff were pleasant but probably won't visit again.

Visited Purdys Tea Room within a garden centre/nursery. Clean premises. Very overpriced. Cheap thin bread. A bacon sandwich which can not come as toasted (?) £4.95 and a child's HALF a sandwich £3.35! There are NO cooked breakfasts on the menu- an oversight on our part as it is called a TEA ROOM. Toilets are outside. The staff are very nice :-)

This used to be very good but in recent times has deteriorated. The main choices haven’t altered for years and the choice and standard of cakes have definitely deteriorated. The outside area needs a good clean, it looks as if it hasn’t been swept in a very long time. The final straw came when I took my sister in law for a coffee whilst we were buying some plants for her garden. They didn’t have any gluten free cake options at all (I’ve had to exclude gluten from my diet on medical advice since early last year). I asked why there wasn’t a gluten free cake (I’ve found most places offer a choice of 2 or 3) and was told by the staff member serving that it’s because gluten free cake tastes disgusting and nobody buys it so they have to throw most of it away!). She then went on to inform me that fibre is needed to break down the gluten and it’s not an intolerance to gluten at all I just don’t eat enough fibre. Even if that were true, which it isn’t, she had no right to be so rude to a customer! Clearly it’s all my fault and my consultant doesn’t know what he’s talking about!! So if you’ve an intolerance to gluten don’t bother going there, go to Hadfields at North Walsham, they have an excellent choice and attitude.

Ordered a BLT and pot of tea. Was really looking forward to it as I had heard very nice tea room. The sandwich was plain and boring with standard sliced bread that had seen better days. The tea was so weak only one tea bag. I expected more from a tea room. Perhaps some local fresh bread would have made it better. Won’t return.

We were visiting the area and haven’t eaten out too much but loved the idea of outside eating. Looks like it was being run by teenagers and no warmth at all, very impersonal. We ordered sausage rolls and I was surprised we weren’t offered them to be warmed as they were like bricks when our children tried to eat them - maybe they had been stored in the fridge for a little too long. Tea was one teabag and was very weak, I struggled to get a decent colour (and I don’t like strong tea either) which was so disappointing. Perhaps the worst part was that I ordered some ‘fruit toast and butter’, I was shocked when the young woman picked a loaf of ‘warburtons’ fruit toast (tiny loaf clearly from supermarket - approx 79p) from under the counter, took 2 tiny slices and proceeded to toast. They popped up as she was preparing the order and was cold before given to me - It was ridiculous and what a mark up (£2.30 for two tiny slices)!!

Homemade, fresh and yummie that was my experience last week Feb 2020... I chose Brie and cranberry sandwich on wholemeal with kettle crisps....wow the wedges of Brie were so thick !! My friend chose tuna mayo in hers and had to use a fork cos there was sooo much tuna filling.. the cheese scones just out of the oven were awesome...would have loved some cakes but the diet said NO...so next time I’ll skip the first and just have cakes...sooo naughty, but soo irresistible. Given a voucher for anniversary we booked and went along. Our table was waiting and a pot of tea bought to us as soon as we arrived. The afternoon tea then came and was on a 2 tiered cake stand. Each individual sandwich were unusual being half white and half brown something we had not had before but a nice touch. Then followed a chocolate brownie and Victoria sponge slice and to finish a scone, jam and cream each.It was very tasty and filling. We needed no other meal that evening. Love this place as a garden centre and often pop in for a quick coffee having purchased new plants etc. This weekend we called in on spec and had arrived just after the lunch time service had officially finished. My hubby and I would quite happily managed with cake and coffee but my ravenous young lads needed something more. The ladies kindly offered to make a sandwich but did apologise that the toaster had been switched office. One young person eagerly asked for bacon and we were pleasantly surprised to be told this was no problem - thank you Purdy's!! Makes a refreshing change to see good customer service after a rather disappointing experience at a well known establishment in a "posh" North Norfolk town earlier in the month. Keep up the good work.

This was a revisit at lunchtime of this popular tea room at Woodgates garden centre. Approximately two weeks earlier my wife and I had popped into the garden centre to buy some plants and had decided to have a quick lunch then go home and put our plants in the garden. Apart from the daily specials there are limited savoury snacks so I decided to have two hot sausage rolls. When they arrived they looked delicious but they had been blasted in a micro wave and the pastry was soggy greasy and inedible I ate the filling which was tasty but left the pastry. On this revisit again I wanted a savoury snack and asked if they could provide a hot sausage roll but one that was not blasted in a micro wave but was heated in the oven that was clear to see. I was told the oven had been turned off so they could only heat the sausage roll in the micro wave I declined and suggested they could keep the sausage rolls in a hot cabinet as used by many tea shops but was told they did not have space for one. As I still wanted something savoury I settled for the daily special of burger at £6.50 nearly three times the price of a sausage roll. It was ok. I appreciate this tea room is aimed at ladies that lunch that are mainly happy with cold food, salads or jacket potatoes not meat pies or sausage rolls but I would just like to ensure people like me who do like such things are aware and are not disappointed if they order a sausage roll only to find it has been microwaved and the pastry spoiled.

We were here today for the afternoon tea. We'd made a reservation earlier in the morning and when we got there at 2pm, a table was beautifully set out for us. Once we were seated, we waited no more than 5 minutes before the tiers of cakes and slices and plates of sandwiches were served! There were egg mayo, cucumber and ham sandwiches. Each one was tastefully sandwiched in a white and brown bread combo. Then we moved onto the scones. They are huge and we each had an individual serving of clotted cream which was generous and far more than we could pile onto our scones. We had one cheese scone in our party and the serving of onion pickle was huge too. The onion pickle was tasty and the cheese scone was also very good. We all enjoyed our scones. By the time we moved onto the cakes, which included a scrumptious white and milk chocolate drizzled flapjack, and a citrus cake and a fruitcake, I'd eaten way past my fill and could only savour a mouthful of flapjack. It was light and crumbly and you could make out the golden syrup/molasses used in the flapjack. Absolutely delightful! The selection of cakes was delicious and moist. When we were well and truly fed, the ladies were very kind to provide doggy bags for the cakes. I should also mention that most of the ingredients are sourced locally which is a big plus!! Overall it is an excellent value afternoon tea and you should come prepare with a huge appetite!

Despite at least 6 people behind the serving counter, (albeit some were kitchen staff) the service was so slow that we drank our cup of tea and left before ordering food. We were queue jumped and kept waiting for ages. It seems to take three people to serve one customer. No one seems to know what they are doing and people end up waiting an unreasonably long time before being served. If this place was managed properly, everyone could be served quickly and efficiently. I probably won't come here again.

Woodgates is a growing garden centre on the edge of Aylshan on the B1145 going towards Cawston. As you come out of Aylsham a small entrance on the left leads you to an unmade potholed track through a gateway to a variety of parking areas. Hope it's not wet as this area up to a green shed had huge puddles the day I went, go past the shed on the left and a pathway opens to tables of bedding plants and beyond are two linked sheds that house Purdys tea rooms. There are tables outside under trees excellent on a sunny day but on a wet and windy June day I could not wait to get inside and here the transformation takes place. A warm welcome from staff at the counter on the left with an invitation to sit down and then come back and order. Specials of the day were shown on a blackboard near the door a soup a quiche a Purdys burger panini or pate and toast. The menu, on the tables, furnished with a mix of chair styles and colours was a simple selection of usual cafe fare, jacket potatoes, things on toast, cakes, scones and tray bakes. What it lacked was sausage rolls hot pies or anything with vegetables. I went to the counter and asked, they said sausage rolls they do have but they are not on the menu as they sell out so quickly and had done today and I was too late to buy one at around noon. I had a jacket potatoe with tuna and from a wide selection of hot and cold drinks choose a diet cola my partner had jacket potatoe generously overflowing with cheese neither were huge but they were ample supported with salad nicely presented and delivered quickly with a smile. The bright airey surroundings were full of happy diners clearly this little oasis is well supported and deservedly so. I would like a bit more man food served but what they do they do well at reasonable prices. In my opinion well worth a visit for a morning or afternoon snack and lunch if a special of the day suits you.

Bobbed down for a cuppa and a sandwich after along walk. Our expectations were high and tongues were dryer than a camels sandal. The building is kinda nice a converted shed with tables. There was lots of staff, lots of tables and they let one dog at a time inside. So far so good. There were lots of cakes in the counter but not one not even a little one was gluten free (except a a tired dog eared looking biscuit wrapped in plastic. We had a pot of earl grey for for just under a fiver and left. We were a little disappointed, that we could order a gluten free sandwich all lunches had finished at 2pm. I believe they could do so much better, he could be so chic. There is clearly a lack of vision. This business reales on the grey pound and could be so much better There is no reason why one would walk there. If your in a car, easy just drive right buy and go into Aylsham Town Centre.
