Very nice inside, very friendly and knowledgeable staff. I asked about gluten free and everything is gluten free apart from the bread, and because of this there is a risk of cross contamination. I went for the spicy Chinese soup and felt fine afterwards. The small portion was a good size and the cappuccino with almond milk was delicious. A very nice peaceful lunch. I did notice a lot of people coming in and and leaving without buying anything - there were only a few options, so perhaps there was nothing to taste.

This is a vegan cafe. The food is amazing and a good range of options. Buddha Bowls, hot quiche and bigger meals. I came to Edinburgh for one night and ate lunch here both days. Aubergine Curry and Rice and Sri Lankan Curry. Their courgette quiche was Devine. Puddings galore and barista drinks. Highly recommended, please visit and support plant power!

Had lunch here with my wife yesterday (20th) we picked the place out specifically as it had a good reputation for providing gluten free food. My wife has Coeliac's disease and unfortunately she got unwell after eating here. She was assured by the staff on shift that the food she had selected was gluten free, but we have now come to understand that some of their products are not gluten free, so obviously there has been some cross contamination in their preparation. I think in future to avoid this, staff should mention to customers who ask about gluten free products that they cannot guarantee it does not contain gluten. If we would have been told this, we would have gone elsewhere and my wife wouldn't have gotten ill. It's really not good enough to be so lackadaisical about allergens this day and age, especially when the cafe in question is militantly vegan.

I ordered the salad and soup combo which were both super delicious full of great healthy ingredients. I also ordered a hazelnut milk flat white which unfortunately undrinkable. Alternative milks need a lot of attention when heat up and my poor little cup of coffee left more to be desired. I could have asked for a another though and that’s on me :)

Have been in this coffee house with my friends last week, we have been served by rude arrogant waitress who was judging us for not being vegan. Coffee itself was poor quality and awfully expensive, never ever will be coming back. This experience has left a bitter taste and will possibly lead to avoiding vegan coffee houses in the future. Definitely can not recommend

I had just arrived in Edinburgh after a long day of traveling. 4 of us in the group I was with decided to go and see the Grassmarket area, (we were staying at the Sheraton on Lothian) and we were looking specifically for a place with Vegan offerings. And with luck on our side, we found this place! One of our party was gluten-intolerant, so we were very happy that she could order gluten-free. All of the food we had was wonderful, and filling. And, it wasn't terribly expensive. Sadly, I don't remember exactly what was ordered, but I will say that 3 of us had the brown rice with an Asian ingredient, and the other had a soup with Lentils. We all nodded our heads in agreement that the food was really good! The staff was friendly and very helpful with answering the questions we had about the menu offerings of that day. If I'm ever back in Edinburgh (or know someone who is going there) I will most certainly recommend this place if asked for a vegan/vegetarian place to eat! Thank you for helping to make my experience of your city a good one!

Found this cafe after searching “best gluten free cafes Edinburgh” and rejoiced to discover it is not only GF but also dairy free and sugar free!!! I’ve been off sugar for 13 weeks and to be able to stare at a desserts display and literally choose ANYthing I wanted .... it felt so good. And tasted so good too. The salted caramel has such a fascinating texture - not too sweet (of course, since it’s got no sugar) - and I ate every single crumb with a very excellent Americano to go with.

We popped in for a hot drink and a snack as we were cold and damp. We would have liked a decaf coffee but they didn’t have it, nor did they have decaf black tea. I asked for a camomile tea instead but they didn’t have that either. We each ordered a piece of one of their raw cakes but were unimpressed with both the texture and lack of flavour. Perhaps we should have chosen something else, but we wouldn’t rush back for a second visit!

Whatever route I was taking to cross the city, I always managed to be in close proximity to Pumpkin Brown which is great. In a world that it can sometimes still be hard to get quick, healthy vegan food on the go in, this place has it! Although slightly expensive, you can taste the reason in the food. Everything I've had tastes fresh, light, and scrumptious. It will be a definite stop if ever I'm returning to Edinburgh.

Having only non-dairy options for milk is definitely a great thing as they do know how to make a tasty plant-based latte! Based on good reviews and the fact that it’s a vegan restaurant we walked across Edinburgh with two young children so that we could treat our youngest (with a dairy allergy) to a sandwich and piece of cake for lunch. We arrived just after 1pm and discovered they had run out of sandwiches/wraps and soup. Might have believed it for a weekend but unbelievable for a Monday. They didn’t even offer to make us anything. Needless to say we walked out again and hunted around for somewhere else.

Maybe I caught them on a bad day? No bottled water to drink, no hot soup on a chilly day, nothing to eat except pre made salads - closing early today because short staffed according to the sign on the door - maybe they shouldn’t have bothered opening? Had gone in looking for coffee and a little something to boost my blood sugar, but quickly realised this is not your average cafe. Everything is vegan, raw and free of refined sugar. Be prepared to be asked what type of milk you want in your coffee, and for the answers ‘regular’ or ‘skinny’ to not quite cut it. They have a wide range of plant milks to choose from, including soya, coconut, hazelnut, almond... They also have a range of cold pressed juices, and carbonated drinks sweetened with fruit and agave. The cake cabinet was stocked with sin-free snacks, all cuboid around 6x7x3cm in size. They didn’t quite meet my expectation for an afternoon treat, so I went for some much healthier sounding avocado toast instead (not gluten free - although almost everything else on the menu is). It took a while to come and the toast was hard round the edges but it was a good sized portion and really flavoursome. It alleviated my apprehension about the lack of seasoning (salt and pepper, specifically) on the table. Service was slow and we were all served separately, which was a little frustrating.

At first I had no idea Pumpkin Brown was a vegan place. So I had a coffee and some food. The coffee tasted weird to me which is normal because I'm not used to dairy alternatives but my food was delicious. It was like a curry type dish and I had it with brown rice, I was very impressed. I did however have a bad reaction afterwards, due to the fact that I am soya intolerant so I'm guessing either the coffee or food had soya in it. Not anyones fault but mine, I should have realised earlier that this could happen. I did want to ask the staff but the woman behind the counter was a tad rude so I didn't want to ask. I don't believe I will be returning because it wasn't my cup of tea but I do recommend it for all the vegans and vegetarians.

Pumpkin Brown had such few options for food. They only had 3 options for salads in their grab and go section, and a soup option when I went in at 3pm on a Saturday. I was disappointed by the taste of the food and the underwhelming taste of it. I wouldn't eat here again nor would I recommend it to others. There was limited seating as well.

I'm not a vegan but am trying to transition. The vegan lunch I had here was so so tasty. It didn't feel like a sacrifice at all. I will definitely return.

Came here for lunch today with a friend - I arrived 20 minutes early and the servers were lovely and friendly, said it was no problem for me to sit and wait! There is plenty of sweet and savoury options (and all day breakfast!). I had the Butterfly Bowl and it was so beautifully presented I almost felt guilty ruining it...almost! It was delicious! My friend had their caramel shortbread and loved it too, amazed it was vegan. Music, atmosphere, and location also fab. Definitely coming back!

I felt instantly welcome at Pumpkin Brown, and it's very close to all of the main sites in Edinburgh. The food is incredible. I had a carrot coriander soup and an iced latte, and I definitely recommend them both. The staff were sweet, and easy to chat to. I'll definitely return next time I'm in the city.

When we popped into Pumpkin Brown for tea and a cake after hacking around the Old Town for a bit, we had no idea we were entering a place where the mention of milk is greeted with shocked silence and confused glances towards the multitude of alternate ' milkable' options. We had seen the sign advertising no gluten but obviously missed the others.

No atmosphere, no dogs, no customers, very rude staff. Completely empty. Everywhere else busy and not a single customer. Says it all.

Steht nirgends. Also am Tresen bestellt. Es dauerte 50 Minuten für "fast food". Alles etwas klebrig, keiner hat gefragt, ob man noch etwas trinken möchte. Fish u Chips waren naja, Burger war ok. Insgesamt so gar nicht unser Ding.

Popped in for a coffee with my wife. The service and atmosphere was amazing. The two girls serving were a delight and their names are Julia and Stella. Plus the coffee was excellent.
