There are so many things I love about this place. The smiling, happy, helpful staff. The simple but well thought through menu. The fresh, local produce that goes into each dish. The uncomplicated and unpretentious way in which your chosen dish arrives at your table. The place was full of happy, satisfied customers, grateful to have found somewhere that serves local food with passion. I’m waiting for Hugo Harrison to put all of his knowledge and passion together and publish a book so we can do our absolute best to recreate his wonderful food at home.

What a brilliant bakery. Hubby and I stopped for lunch. We both had a sausage roll, hot drink and cake. Now I'm not a great pastry lover nor a sausage roll fan but I thought I'd give one a go here and I'm so glad I did. It was absolutely delicious, there was plenty of filling and the pastry was nice and light too, I ate the whole thing. Hubby's cake was the Pecan Brownie and mine the St Clements Citrus cake. We were very pleased with our choices , hubby said the brownie wasn't dry like some and had a good amount of nuts in it. My cake was divine, very moist with good flavouring without being overpowering. The only thing I would say is some items are a little pricey ie £4.75 for a sausage roll.

This is the best bakery I've ever been to. One day I had the ham and cheese croissant and chocolate chip cookie whilst my husband had the almond croissant and cinnamon bun. After trying a bite of his almond croissant, I knew we needed to go back so I could have my own and it didn't disappoint, it was fantastic! Day 2 I had an almond croissant and citrus loaf cake and he had the bears claw and raspberry donut. We also got some focaccia to take home with us. As expected, my croissant was fantastic and citrus loaf really flavoursome too. He absolutely loved the donut, said the dough was great and jam really delicious. The focaccia was lovely too. Staff are really lovely here and you can tell they've got regular customers they genuinely care about. I didn't get many photos as was too busy enjoying it! Portions were huge though. Saturday mornings can get very busy first thing but it's well worth the wait! Would highly recommend!!

Called in to buy some chocolate at 4 pm and was told they were shutting the shop, I said I’ve only travelled 274 miles to purchase some of your products. The guy said nothing and showed no interest closed the shop and walked over the road. Very disappointed as I always spent lot of money at this shop previously which is not difficult as it’s very expensive . I guess they make so much money they don’t need to care about people, very poor attitude.

We stay in Orford one week every year and Pump st bakery is always a highlight as we simply have nowhere remotely like it at home!! Quality of bread, cakes and pastries is second to none which is probably reflected in the price but holiday time IS treat time isn’t it? Staff were always smiling and friendly. Quite right that dogs are not allowed inside but they are most welcome at any of the outdoor tables and benches. I like the way the choice of cakes etc varies each day/ during the same day. See you next year Pump st!

NOT DOG FRIENDLY I was very disappointed by my visit on Thursday. We walked in sat down with our small dog. My dad queued for coffees, cake and bread. We luckily had not ordered as then we were asked to leave because of our dog. You should really say on your social media and website that no dogs are allowed. You lost our business and future business not allowing dogs inside. I think it's important to inform customers of your dog policy to make informed decisions before travelling.

Well what a surprise, have been coming to Orford for years and didn't know this little bakery gem existed. Only found it by noticing people sitting outside eating and drinking so followed someone in through a door on the building side not knowing what I was going to find. A lovely assortment of cakes, bread and sandwiches, the sandwiches were wrapped in greaseproof paper and tied with a cord and bow, how neat is that. The young lady serving could not have been more charming and helpful.

Live round the corner from here, and had an appointment in Orford so popped in for 2 coffees and a pastry to kill some time.. Lovely little bakery with cafe attached, lacks a bit if ambience very stark but thats my opinion others may say different. Served by a very nice polite young lady. I paid £10.80 for 2 lattes and an almond croissant. The croissant was approx £4.80 bit on the expensive side but quite large and delicious, so it redeemed itself. However the latte!!!!!!!!! you'd think for £3 you would be getting a reasonable cup off coffee (these were takeaways by the way) they have to be the smallest latte's I've ever had (almost expresso sized) The coffee wasn't hot enough or any different from the coffee's I've purchased anywhere else and in 2 gulps it had gone.... I'd visit again for the pastries but then I'd drive round to the Quayside cafe for a coffee.

I have no idea why the other reviewer is so negative. I have been a customer of Pump Street for years and aside from the fact that they make delicious hand-made breads, patisserie and doughnuts to die for, they are also very welcoming and friendly. If you are anywhere near the area, you really should make the trip to visit them. Their coffee is excellent too. At lunchtime they offer beautifully made home-made soups and lots of options for breakfast and lunchtime. We run several holiday let properties at Butley barns and in Aldeburgh and send all our guests to Pump Street, as it's a huge bonus to have it so nearby. I personally recommend the raspberry jam doughnuts... Just be warned, one will not be enough! Also the Portuguese custard tarts are always enjoyed by everyone. However, since you will be in Orford, there is a lovely walk from the quay, so you can burn off the calories along the river path :) You really should go.

Whilst in Orford we got a takeaway lunch to enjoy by the quay. The set up is very good and allows for easy social distancing to take place. It was great to see a local business thriving in the current climate. The ham and cheese croissant and sweet pastries we had were delicious (We even popped back later to pick up some croissants for breakfast the next day). However we were given the wrong pizza flavour and the foccacia that we ordered never made to our bag. No receipts were offered so we had no idea if we had been charged or not, but also had no proof of the transaction to return to complain. This was a little frustrating, but due to the tastiness of what we did have, we soon forgot about it all!!

This establishment had come highly recommended as the place for coffee.I don't think I've ever been more disappointed. It's a classic, pink painted, old, Suffolk building. Expectations were high. Choice of cakes was fine, so no problem there. I had almond croissant, my friend had a doughnut (rhubarb as they had sold out of jam). The cakes were good. I had an Americano coffee. Ok flavour but quite weak. My friend had a pot of earl grey tea which was refilled without asking so that was another plus.My real disappointment came with the lack of ambiance/atmosphere. The room was completely empty apart from a few, very modern tables and chairs and a massive all singing/dancing coffee machine. The walls were plain white, (nothing wrong with white) but again very bare! Not a picture to be seen! And talk about echo! We were the only two there but when the coffee machine was in use we couldn't talk. The staff were lovely. The owners really need to inject some atmosphere. It's an old building, try using it's natural charm and quirkyness.I will not come back unless it becomes more inviting.

Popped in here for a bite at lunch time. Obviously popular, as there was a queue of people waiting for a table when we left (not that many tables available....) Had an Italian ham and cheese slice and a pecan and maple tart with a coffee and 'speciailty' chocolate. My wife said that was the best chocolate she had ever tasted, so high praise indeed! Slightly disappointed they weren't serving the pancakes (see other reviewers photos!) on the day we were there but there was still a fair choice. Best to get there early as locals go to stock up on the goodies and visitors also like what's on offer, so once it's gone...Mind your head on the lights hanging over the tables if you sit at a table inside, as they seem to be very low set and are quite heavy!

Oh dear! Echoing comment below - this used to be a village gem but has been near-ruined by a make-over (probably nudged by corporate design consultants). Previous communal table - where people could chat across generations, help each other with crosswords etc - has been turned into a soul-less room with small, anti-social tables and an oh-so pretentious 'temple-museum' to chocolate over the road. This is a stand out bakery that produces the most delicious bread, pastries an confectionary. The coffee and hot chocolate is the best I have tasted. The new refurb seems to have confused the business intent. Customers wanting to sit for hot drinks etc. still have to order at the same counter as those buying bakery items. When going to the coffee prep are a fairly officious female tells them where else to go. Not a good first impression as there is no sign to indicate this is the requirement.

We loved Pump Street for its rustic, bustling atmosphere, the large shared trestle table and friendliness of the place. However, we feel the recent changes have removed the bakery's individual character, creating a more sterile and clinical environment. Gone are most of the tables along with most of the hot food menu. Given that this is a popular destination for cyclists keen for some sustenance, I can't understand why the owners think this is an improvement. The lack of tables may be ok for the summer months when one can sit outside or take coffee and pastries over to the castle, but I hope they re-think the inside seating for autumn/winter. The pastries are delicious but there seems to be less choice (almond croissants sold out by 10.30 a.m.) and we are now gravitating to the equally delicious Magpie Cafe (seated and separate take away) in Aldeburgh.

If you go to Orford you have to come here for a coffee and cake. If you don't have long take them with you. It is very very very good and the bread is magic. Need I say more.

Stopped here to pick up some sourdough bread and cakes following a slightly disappointing lunch at the Riverside Tearoom. Wow, what a difference. Stunningly good bread and simply amazing Eccles cakes and Pastel de nata. Parking is available outside, so if you are in Orford, don't leave without visiting this bakery. What am I saying? If you are anywhere near Orford, go out of your way to visit. It's that good. Honest!.

You would expect a cafe in a pretty and historical village that attracts tourists on a sunny weekend to be a cut above average. This one is certainly that.

If you are into artisan bread, then there's plenty of that on offer, but make sure your teeth are feeling strong! The pastries are wonderful! The coffee is great! The staff are friendly and efficient. But the queues in the summer are crazy. And why do the second home owners in Orford feel the need to loiter all over the road outside as if this is some kind of giant pavement cafe?? Ggrrrrr!!

We called in to get some sourdough bread which we knew was very good and while there bought some of their chocolate. The bread was delicious but the chocolate was not to my taste very high in chocolate content which made to my taste almost unpalatable. Given this and the very high cost (£24 for 280grammes) I don’t think we will be buying this again.

Stopped after a trip to Orford castle. It was an hour before closing so could be reason for poor choice. What was available was expensive. Had been to two magpies bakery day before which had loads of choice and much better priced.

Stopped for a pastry and coffee this week. Pain au chocolat and pain au raisin were delicious, the Monmouth coffee and loose leaf tea were also lovely. A lovely little spot in the beautiful village of Orford

Attracted to the cafe by the log burning stove but even this could not create a quality ambience. Disappointing and over priced.

Called at this bakery for some refreshment. This place has a monopoly in Orford so anything goes. There was hardly anything left to buy so we chose a couple of Eccles cake and two cups of tea in paper cups (eerrgh! ) The Eccles cakes were so sweet it was like eating a toffee apple. £9.... I couldn't believe it. Get an Eccles cake right and stop charging exorbitant prices for nothing special.

Families looking for quality & substance should avoid Pump Street. Even if you have no budget or monetary constraints, people need to go elsewhere. The food is less than average & the layout to sit down is far from intimate & enjoyable.

Love this place so much that our generous brother and sister in law bought a lovely box of home made chocolate assorted bars and home made Panettone for our Christmas presents. Highly delighted as they were all gorgeous. The panettone was huge yum yum. They were boxed beautifully.

We went for lunch and both had a toasted cheese sandwich with membrillo- delicious! I then had a chocolate brownie-amazing, and a hot chocolate- the best I’ve ever had, and I’ve had a lot of hot chocolate! Seating is on a shared table which fits 14 so you may have to wait but it will be worth it. We took a bar of the sourdough and salt dark chocolate and a loaf of brown sourdough home to try later. Everything was brilliant, if only I lived closer. Hope to visit again when we go on our next hols.

Although the food good ... it should be prices ridiculous... ok served well... but overrated as basically eggs avocado bacon etc... smallest cappuccino for £3.10! Sitting on one large table cannot help overbearing pompous conversations... def not worth the trip... cakes and bread also overpriced for what they are...will not be returning ... I’ll let others try if they have money to waste!

Here you all sit a a communal table where we always meet really friendly interesting people. The tea and coffee are of superb quality and the breakfast menu is very unusual and changed frequently. The staff are delightful and the bakery shop irresistible!

Lovely pub with lovely staff and lovely food! What more can I say. The two of us, plus our 2 dogs, were welcomed to the pub, where we enjoyed good locals beers and excellent home cooked food. Wish we lived nearer. Well done , a proper pub!

Sorry to say it was the worst breakfast I've had in the cafe. But if I pay £15.10 for coffee and full English I expect the highest standards. Bacan was so bad I couldn't even eat it. The picture says it all. Who would serve a customer food that looks like that. Lovely staff but all they did was apologised for the drop in standards.

We always come for a walk to the dip when visiting family , a great spot to sit and have coffee and cake and look out to sea , today I had one of the homemade cheese scones it was one of the best I have ever eaten , whatever the weather always a great establishment for a warm welcome and delicious fair, great ice creams in the summer and hot chocolate in the winter .
