Delicious Sunday lunch, good service, helpful staff ! For those of you who had previously eaten at The Joshua Tree further down the road, the Chef has recently moved to The Garland, and while the menu wasn’t as extensive, the food is just as good. Would recommend …

I’ve visited The Garland regularly over the last several years and even before the pandemic. I’ve always found it a little cliquey if you’re not one of the regulars. Since the new landlord has taken over, I find the pub more welcoming and it’s nice to go in there now and see the hive of activity and such a diverse range of ages and cultures. This is now becoming my new regular. Long may it continue and I wish the new landlord all the best and welcome such a breath of fresh air.

Landlord shouting racist comments at the the TV while Liverpool played. He received a Chinese takeaway and mimicked a 1970s Chinese accent to talk time delivery driver. When I pulled him up on it, he said ' it's my pub, I can do what I want!' I also mentioned he and his barman with the Chuckle brother moustache had drunk more behind the bar than I had, he shrugged and told me to Eff Off. Shame, was a great pub under the previous landlord.

Up until recently, we had a lovely manager and his wife, Ron and Jane, who were friendly, spotlessly clean and welcoming. Just the sort of people that are a credit to your company. Regrettably, they are no longer with us and have been replaced by a new manager and, I'm told, an assistant manager. I do not know the new manager's name as he has made no effort to introduce himself. There has been a noticeable drop in hygiene standards, both in the ladies toilets and the bar. Unfortunately, I also have to question how the new manager can wear slippers behind the bar and wear the same shirt from the day he took over. I'm concerned for our pub's future under the new management.

The Owners seems to have lost their focus since Tina and Dave left. What was a brilliant local now seems to want to focus on Karaoke and Pizza, losing the feel that the locals loved, so they seem to be moving away. A sad loss to the area. Lets hope Harveys or the owners see the error of their ways before it is lost for ever.

I’ve always believed that one of the great pleasures in life is a great local pub. With a family background in brewing and a personal interest in continuing the great British devotion to a fine pint and good company, the Garland comes closer than most places to ticking those boxes. It has a good setting, excellent outdoor area, renovated interior and regulars who are easy going, stimulating and downright intriguing by turns. However, one element lacking has been a landlord committed to excellent drinking coupled with conviviality. I was sorry to see David Byron end his recent stint at the Garland as he brought all the foregoing great qualities to bear while he was with us here in Redhill. However, the beer glass is always half-full and I’m very pleased to have got to know him and to have reaped the benefits of his hand on the pub’s tiller. The pint of Guinness he poured after twice cleaning the pump lines throughout the pub was second only to my taste-memory of supping and singing in Dublin itself. Same goes for his keeping, handling and serving of excellent Harvey’s ales. He was a value-added addition (albeit via Slough) to a Refhill pub lacking that ‘je ne sais quois’. He was dedicated, honest, friendly and had both sympathetic ear and entertaining racconteurship (a neologism he richly deserves.). He may have moved on, but he will not be forgotten. Very best wishes to him and here’s hoping the latest incumbent behind the Garland bar can emulate Dave’s brief but impressive performance. Dave, thank you for your hard work and your excellent company. Your next pub’s customers will be happy quaffers. [N.B. I give Dave 5/5 (excellent), but the pub 4/5 (very good) overall. When someone like Dave Byron takes the Garland on permanently, then I’ll give it full marks...]

I’ve frequented the Garland for a few years now. Close by, with a good selection of sensibly priced ales, and with a new landlord in Dave Byron, hospitable too. Everything I’d look for in a traditional local pub. The pub has also had a makeover, and whilst not tempting a more diverse clientele, makes for a pleasant relaxed atmosphere. Just as it looked like the pub was on the up, Dave is unfortunately going onto pastures new, but in the short time he was there made an impact with the locals with his professionalism, hard work and hospitality. I hope Dave’s great work will be continued with the next landlord.

I've been a regular at this pub for years and was glad when it survived lockdowns only to find that it was going through a refurbishment. For the last couple of weeks the reins have been taken by a temporary manager name Dave Byron. Naturally I assumed that because he was only going to run the Garland for a while that he would do the bare minimum. Nothing could have been further from the truth. Dave set a high standard from the start of his tenure, not satisfied with the benchmark set by previous tenants he made sure both the bar, cellar and lines were immaculate. He treated the locals with a warmness that made you think that he had been serving you for years and when the odd difficult customer caused friction Dave dealt with it with a level of tact of diplomacy that quickly diffused the situation. It's important to note that Dave did this working alone with no support working long hours to keep up the aforementioned high standards. Such was his dedication that he missed the funeral for a friend in order to keep the Garland open for both the company and the locals. I hope whoever is managing next is half the manager that Mr Byron is and whichever pub Dave manages next is very lucky indeed.

I’ve been a regular at this pub since I’ve moved to Redhill and was intrigued how it would turn out when I heard it was having a refurb recently. I must say that Dave Byron who has single handed run the pub since it’s re-opened has been fantastic, the fact he’s so welcoming and engaging without ever having any help or a day off is a huge credit to him! It’s a shame he’s not staying the level he has set is top notch.

Been to a few pubs in Redhill, but this one is the best - really good pleasant pub atmosphere, music not too loud, loads of places to sit and chat with friends. Loads of real ales if thats your thing, think its well thought of by CAMRA, has won awards I think. Bar staff always pleasant and really ticks all the boxes you are looking for in a local pub.

Use this pub often as I love real ale. Staff are friendly, beer is kept and served well and they have some great bands. It's a proper pub so don't expect it to be fancy, just an honest, decent pub. They're a dying breed!

Went there for a Wednesday lunchtime and ordered the special which was cheese burger and chips. The burger, which must have been home made judging by its size and taste, was meaty and very tasty and was served on a bun with cherry tomatoes and pickles. The chips, which were very chunky, were accompanied with a spicy sauce which complimented the whole meal. The serving staff were wonderful and it all made to a lovely lunchtime treat.
