My partner and I have been guests of this restaurant from when it first opened , over 15years ago, and we had a very good. relationship with the previous owner. It was always our go to restaurant for a decent quality meal. The experience we had recently wasn’t up to the high standards of food quality nor did it deliver in the expectations we have experienced in the past, with dining in this restaurant. The meals lacked no depth of flavour or taste, it was as though an unseasoned chef quickly coddled them together without considering the end product or customers food experience. The portion size has reduced dramatically, the chicken supreme was of the size of a large chicken wing, And the dauphinoise potato had no flavour at all! I had to add salt and pepper ( which should never be the case ) We had regarded this restaurant in high esteem, but not anymore. I’m very disappointed I have had to write this review but the standards of this restaurant have fallen far below the excepted dining experience my partner have come to be accustom to with having dining in this restaurant over many years. In summary, standards have fallen and food quality doesn’t reflect the price tags that is expected with charging customers for a dining experience. I Am very sad to say I will not be visiting any time soon. Sent from my iPad

The staff including the manager very rude and they overcharged us and when we asked about it they wouldn’t even check it, they just said that is what we had to pay. We will never be coming here again and I will make sure all my friends know how awful you are.

This is my second visit to Provender in the past two weeks. Despite a less-than-ideal experience last time, I decided to bring friends visiting from Scotland for Sunday Roast, hoping for a better outcome. Unfortunately, I’m starting to feel a bit disappointed. For the second time in a row, my meal wasn’t up to par. I ordered the Pork Belly, but it arrived completely cold and unappetizing. The potatoes and carrots appeared to have been cooked long before service, resulting in an unpleasant texture. I had to ask the owner to have my dish reheated, and by the time it was returned, my husband and friends had already finished their meals, leaving me to eat alone while they waited. One of our friends ordered the medium roast beef, but it was served quite rare. For a restaurant with such potential, these basic issues with food quality are concerning. Dining out is meant to be an enjoyable experience, where the food exceeds what we can cook at home. While I did receive an apology for the mistakes, no effort was made to offer a complimentary drink or dessert to compensate for the inconvenience. Sadly, we all left feeling disappointed, especially as we’ve had positive experiences at Provender in the past. I’m visiting again on Friday for a friend’s birthday and truly hope for a better experience. However, if things don’t improve, this will likely be my last visit, as the kitchen needs to address these concerns, particularly with ensuring meals are served at the correct temperature and cooked to the requested standard. Thank you for your time, and I hope to see improvements soon.

A very enjoyable experience. For a local restaurant, this is probably as good as it gets. The arancini was delicious and the steak was slightly overcooked and lacked a little flavour but still very good quality. Definitely deserving of the Michelin Guide mention and would certainly visit again.

We recently dined at Provender, and overall, it was a delightful experience with just a couple of minor hiccups. My husband ordered the veal, requesting it to be cooked medium, but unfortunately, it was served rare. We promptly informed our waiter, who was very accommodating and quickly arranged for a new meal to be prepared. The replacement dish arrived just a few minutes later, and I must say, the veal was cooked perfectly this time. The service throughout our visit was excellent, and the staff were attentive and friendly. The food was truly delicious, especially once my husband received the properly cooked veal. However, I found it unfortunate that I had to eat my dinner on my own while my husband was waiting for his meal to be corrected, as I didn’t want my food to go cold. While we appreciated the quick response and apology from the staff, I found it a bit disappointing that no complimentary drink or discount was offered as a goodwill gesture after the mix-up. A small token would have added a nice touch to the overall experience. Despite this, I would definitely recommend Provender for its superb service and delicious food. We left satisfied and would consider returning in the future!

Oh WOW! What an amazing experience of talent from the chefs and front of house for their service to us. Nothing was too much trouble for them. I celebrated my 54th birthday here on Saturday 7th September 2024, recommended to me by one of the chefs, who is my lovely neighbour. Everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong getting there. We phoned ahead to inform them that we would be late but nothing was a problem. When we arrived we wanted to eat outside. Not a problem! The food was piping hot and divine. Perfectly cooked escargot, melt in the mouth veal with the best frites I have ever had. The special desert was pure heaven. Presentation and attentiveness throughout was outstanding. I am so excited and can't wait to return with other groups of friends, to continue my celebrations. Absolutely love this place! The staff, the5 food, wine and atmosphere! Sad my birthday celebrations are over, catching up with friends but, so glad I got to share this amazi1ng place, Provender, with them, Amazing because of the staff, food, wine and atmosphere.

Definitely worth the visit for lunch, fantastic selection of French cuisine. Every dish I tried had an air of quality and flavours were superb. I tried the gazpacho soup as a starter which was a great balance of spice and tomato flavour. Also tried the lamb and rabbit both melt in mouth good especially the rabbit. Topped off with a creme brulee which was as good as I have tasted. Service was good, welcoming and helpful whilst efficient a very relaxing visit.

Needed dinner with the family and really fancied french food. This did not disappoint. I had no idea how nice a restaurant we wandered into and feel rather happy we found it. Needing an early dinner about 5:30pm, we managed to get a table for myself, husband and child. The staff were welcoming, happy to answer questions, we even got given a childs menu. Prices were not too bad, i would say reasonable. My daughter and I had the French onion soup, husband the snails. He loved his duck burger and my souffle and the sauce around it was yummy. Only problem we had was a child who was being picky, so didn't want much. It would have been nice to see something french on the kids menu but obviously the general chips and protein works well. Would i go back, YES..... and i would book a table next time as we were so lucky we could just walk in (the place was packed on a sunday evening!). This was a lovely treat.

There was an advertising campaign back in the '80s that ran with the line "Les Français adorent le Piat D'Or". This turned out not to be the case; les Français hadn't even heard of Piat D'Or, and would have few bon mots for you had you turned up with a bottle of said plonk. The décor at Provender does bring the '80s to mind – in a good way – but aside from the unashamed devotion to French cuisine, that's where any similarity to the aforementioned advert ends. Because this is that rarest of things in London (well, the outskirts): authentic French food, done well. The classics are present and correct of course, as is a prix fixe menu that cleverly has a few additions that are not present on the à la carte menu (and vice versa – the gorgeous crème brûlée is on both, but only on the à la carte do you get the option of the delicious cherry compôte). It's safe to say that there's something for everyone here, and it doesn't just favour the bold; if you do play safe and opt for the burger, you'll be hard pushed to find a better one anywhere else in the country. I'm not going to go through each and every dish or wine as there are far too many and they're all absolutely superb. Well, aside from the soufflé au reblochon, which just has to be tried, and you'd be a fool to miss out on the scallops if they're on the specials board, and the kir Vouvray, and, and... You get the point. Provender is simply fantastic, delivering great food, great wine, great service and a great atmosphere. And not a drop of Piat D'Or in sight.

Mark: 78 Grade: A Excellence in all aspects - congratulations! Products Evaluated: 3-course menu Entrée: Potted salmon, pickled cucumber (25%) Main Course: sea bream filet "Bouillabaisse" with gratin dauphinois (50%) Dessert: Mango panna cotta (25%) Environment et hygiene: Relaxing but still decorated with style. Familial atmosphere. Rather good use of utensils. 7.25/10 Presentation: Slightly pale for the entrée and the dessert but still evidence of care shown. The main course was however attractively presented, with careful positioning or the fish filet. 11.25/15 Portion: The entrée was on the light side but otherwise very good. Well-balanced. 7/10 Taste: Salmon - nice and subtle smokey flavours. Pickles were appropriately prepared without being overwhelming acidic. 7 Sea bream -The skin was very nicely seared and the fillet appropriately cooked if not a bit too much so. Well-marinated with a natural sweetness. The base was fragrant with flavours of saffron, garlic and herbs (could use a bit more) well-balanced. Texture was excellent and the use of shrimps, mussels, funnel and potatoes added variety to the dish. The rouille (?) lacked cayenne pepper and saffron but was still good. The gratin was authentic. 7.75 Crême brûlée - Excellent texture and control of sweetness. The taste of mango was perhaps a bit masked though. 7.25 29.75/40 Service: A tad bit of confusion at the start and the procedure of asling for allergies was omitted. However, this was made up but a good to great degree of hospitality shown. Quite well-paced. 7.25/10 Value: £20.5 for the menu - outstandung for Greater London and for the excellent performance in all aspects! 13.5/15 Bonus: +2

We had a 45 minute trip to get here so maybe our hopes and expectations were high before we walked through the door. It is a typical French bistro set in a London High Street. We ate the scallops which were amazingly good, the wood pigeon which was ok, the soufflé and the Veal - the later two were good. The wine list has a great mix on there and there are some hidden gems that make it an interesting choice. Total bill for two was circa £140 which we did not think was too bad. Our conclusion would be if it was over the road we would go often BUT to travel to it maybe not. It is a local place for local people, but if you do go the food is good and the service typically French at times!!!

The presentation of every dish was outstanding. Yorkshires perfectly crisp. The pork we had was nice but a bit chewy, and the potatoes had a lovely crisp texture on the outside but were a tad dry inside. Overall, it was not a bad meal. I went on Thursday with my sister and nephew and had a really lovely time. Strongly recommend the Bouillabaisse, even served with a rouille which it rarely is anywhere in London in actual fact. Great little touch the waiters speak French which was nice to execute. Fantastic service and great atmosphere. French onion soup was cheesy and delicious. Packed full of umami. Pris Fix is very very good value for money. Definitely go here if you're wanting a taste of French nostalgia that isn't a Cote or something substandard.

A group of 8 of us headed to Provender to celebrate a special birthday occasion last Sunday over an extended lazy lunch; and, oh how brilliantly lazy and late it was! With a glass of bubbly in hand, and snacking on the some of the ‘Casse –Croûtes’ (including: flûte à l’ail, arancini, confit de saumon fumé, crevettes fumées with aîoli) we spent a while catching up and perusing the extensive menu. The suggested offerings catered to everyone’s taste & fancies; a few of our party opted for the traditional Sunday lunch (beef / chicken) for main course, whilst others chose dishes including the Tandoori spiced fillet of cod, vegetarian Wellington (my choice) and the dish of the day: Haunch of Venison. All of this was enjoyed after the scrumptious and hearty starters from the ‘Entrées’ selection. Our diners relished the Magret de pigeon, savoured the Terrine de Campagne and delighted in the Escargots à la Bourguignone. I myself chose the Monkfish special, extremely generously proportioned melt in the mouth chunks of tempura fried yumminess. To accompany our meal, we opted for a very reasonably priced Malbec; it was rich and earthy and a perfect complement to our varied dishes. So, big question...did we have room for pudding? Show me a ‘Café Gourmand’ on a menu and ask me to resist... well they did and we didn't...Even though my belly was about to pop, I tucked into the mini desserts with aplomb. I usually head straight to the chocolate on any dessert menu, however on this occasion it was the Panna cotta with cherry coulis which stole my heart; I almost licked the dish clean! We had decided to share a few Cafés Gourmands between us as we were too full to sample the full sized desserts, nonetheless every last sweet treat delivered to the table was eagerly consumed with sheer gourmandise. On the day of our visit, the staff were extremely friendly and attentive, the service was faultless and perfectly timed to suit our leisurely long lunch. The experience as a whole could not have been better. We all left sated and very happy, vowing to return again soon; I just wish I lived a little closer to make this my neighbourhood ‘go to’ restaurant.

This resturant is charging Central London prices although not being in Central London. I used to visit whenever I was in the area once a month but it’s now highly overpriced. Last week, on my last visit - the dessert on the chalkboard was £11 for a choc fondant! I won’t be going back.

This restaurant is our special occasion place to go so my husband booked a table for my 60th birthday celebration with my children. My daughter and partner drove all the way from Brighton to attend. We had a late sitting at 8.15pm but we had to wait quite a while for our drinks to arrive and then a further 45 minutes plus for starters. My meal of scallops followed by steak was lovely but other members of my family were a bit disappointed with their food, so I did feel bad for my daughter who had driven all that way just to be there. Another little disappointment was that although my husband had mentioned the special birthday at booking, there was no recognition of this whatsoever. I'm not saying that we expected any freebies but just that an acknowledgement at welcome or birthday wish would have been a nice touch. Anyway, I think overall I've had better experiences at this restaurant beforehand and at others for that matter.

Excellent meal with authentic flavours in a welcoming atmosphere. Must return to take advantage of the Prix-fix menu, if nothing else.

I went there with my wife and little puppy last night. We sat in the little garden outside the restaurant. As soon as waiter came he said "sorry we are fully booked" although all the tables in the garden were empty (there were approx 8 tables). When he saw me looking at the empty tables he realised we had a little dog and he said "we have no dog policy anyway". The garden is a part of the pavement and there is nothing special on the floor, just normal regular street paving. How does a restaurant in Wanstead not accept a little puppy in the garden? I asked "do you want us to leave?" He said yes please. After about 40 minutes I passed by the restaurant and the tables in the garden were still empty. Apparently they did not want to serve us and made some excuses. We were so offended with this behaviour. This is the very first time We were rejected in a restaurant. So disrespectful!!

Top marks, a warm, welcoming French Bistro with high standards for food, service and a great variety of seasonal produce. Provender's own sauces (Peppercorn etc) have an interesting individual "take" to them. The Apple Pie with cream and icecream here is amazing!

Probably the best tasting chicken I have had in London. "Chicken au vin blanc" had mashed potatoes, tomatoes, some veg and a delicious sauce. Very tender meat in a hot casserole. Would definitely come all the way here just to eat it again The banoffee pie was extraordinary, served in a very modern way, not excessively sweet so that was nice Friendly staff that was happy to help anytime and go to the kitchen to ask about specific dishes if they were unsure about the ingredients. According to my friend the cheese quiche was also delicious Daily menu 16,50 or 20,50
