Provenance Food Hall & Restaurant in Bolton

We were promised "not a big party" but great food and so they delivered ! The quality of the meat is unsurpassed in the area and the sides are not "just sides" but worthy of a mention of their own especially our favourite which is the port glazed onions ! Cakes were also great though they didn't have their home-made boozy tiramisu whcih is outstanding. Very well-recommended !

8 of us visited Provenance on Saturday 4/1/25 to celebrate one of our friends Birthday. This was our first time visiting. We were in the private dining room which is very beautifully decorated. From the moment we were seated the service was excellent and you are made to feel very welcome. You are taken to the butchers downstairs to choose the cut of meat you want which is such a unique experience it was fantastic. You are spoiled for choice with such a wide variety of cuts of meat. You then choose how you want it cooked choose your sides go back to your table. Our food came out promptly and all our dishes were exceptional so tasty and absolutely delicious. If you’re looking for somewhere with lovely ambience, brilliant staff and Management and fantastic food Provenance is definitely the place to go. We all will be definitely returning soon.

Lovely food and good quality cooked to perfection! Visited on NYE. A nice intimate setting to visit in a couple or with friends/family. Very attentive and friendly staff also! Thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish! Will be back in the new year :)

Just back from an excellent meal at Home@Provenance. Great sharing starters which were recommended to us by the manager. We all ordered the Cornish Sole for our main course, it was so fresh and delicious. The staff went out of their way to look after us as they didn’t rush us & made some excellent recommendations. Well done Home for a lovely afternoon, we’ll definitely be back as one of the best meals out for sometime.

Called in for Brunch this morning, the staff were very accommodating and made room for us to bring our puppy in and eat in downstairs. The Tumeric eggs were exceptional and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. Thank you, we will be back.

A wonderful place to lunch. Superb cakes, delicious macaroon and chocolates could easily keep you for 15 minutes just to make up your mind on which to pick

We had a lovely Sunday Roast Share platter, which we had with a bottle of Prosecco ,the food was lovely and slightly different from your average Sunday roast. Staff were very polite, friendly and happy to help and the atmosphere was very calm and chilled. Really enjoyed it and will return.

I've always wanted to go to Harwoods patisserie after seeing them on the Bake off professional series , amazed to find a small outlet here, the hazelnut and fig cheesecake was to die for, definitely visit again.

Visited the restaurant for the second time on Sunday for one of their sharing Sunday roast platters. Oh what a treat and not sure I’ve ever had such a good roast dinner before. Brilliant food, quality service, lovely wine and a friendly relaxed atmosphere. Can also highly recommend the fillet steak from our previous visit. We will be back soon!

Been a long time customer at provenance, the butchers is amazing and the meat quality is excellent! Harwoods patisserie cakes and treats are beautiful and so tasty. I haven’t eaten upstairs in a while but it has always bee nice in the past when I have done. Heard they are doing a Sunday roast now which I would love to try. My only complaint is that the sandwiches are no where near as good as they used to be, the homemade bread and warm sandwiches used to be the main reason I visited. The Monty sandwiches they are now serving are not as good as the previous sandwiches and I haven’t been impressed with any of them unfortunately, the bread is lovely quality but they just lack in flavour and the bacon is always under cooked and fatty which puts me off the whole sandwich unfortunately. The ingredients they use don’t taste freshly cooked either :( please bring the old sandwiches (especially the club) back!! I went in and asked for a club on the warm baked sourdough bread but was told they no longer to this? I don’t understand how if they still cook the bread for the og steak sandwich why they can’t accommodate for a club? Very disappointing unfortunately, please bring back the old sandwiches and use good quality back bacon!!!

Absolutely fantastic! I visited Provenance Food Hall for Sunday lunch and had the Sunday Lunch for 2—it was perfection. The food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Generous portions, excellent quality, and great value. The cozy atmosphere and friendly staff made it even better. Highly recommend for a memorable dining experience!

Wonderful experience and food. Really enjoyed the butchers block and getting an understanding of the meat, where it came from and the recommendations. Quality of meat was superb and the vegetable side dishes..wow.

You are immediately greeted by the very attentive staff in a rustic colonial setting ( felt like I should have had my Panama hat on ) very relaxing atmosphere. An amazing interactive concept for the diner including picking your own wine in person rather than from a confusing menu that nobody reads. The food is extraordinary and I don’t say this lightly. For anyone who knows food and restaurants you need to take advantage of this hidden Gem before it’s six weeks to get a table ( that is coming ). I would like to thank all the staff for an unforgettable evening especially James and Matthew. Once you have been if you know then you know. A very special place.

Such a lovely hidden gem in Westhoughton. The food and service was amazing. We visited for a friend's birthday and were in a large private dining area which had a great atmosphere. The front of house ladies were so knowledgeable and friendly, couldn't do enough to look after you. The food was to die for and the steak was amazing! Well done to the chefs. A big shout out to Matthew in the kitchen also, he made the best truffle fries! Would 100% recommend 👌

Had breakfast, this was absolutely💯 returned same day for Sunday roast and was even better than the breakfast!!! The food, service and atmosphere is amazing!!!!

Recently had lunch with a friend. We both commented that paoer cups for our coffees are disappointing. The BLT sandwich I ordered was generous but would feel more manageable to eat if it was cut into 4 triangles. It was tasty, but I took half of it home as it was too large. My friend had a hot beef panni, which she said was good. Also, they need to zone it so diners aren't facing raw meat in the butchers department. I felt sorry that there was no atmosphere. The young staff were attentive and professional. Thankyou.

Visited 3 times, 1st really good, 2nd shared sandwich soggy bread, 3rd time egg on brown pretty good. Tuna really poor, soggy untrained tuna with a weird sauce more suited to a burger. Expensive mistake.

Held my mothers wake her last week and it was great. Surroundings and atmosphere are great , food was excellent and James and his staff very pleasant and easy to deal with . I would strongly recommend the venue to anyone. Thank you

Visited Provenance yesterday for a private funeral buffet which was absolutely first class in every respect. Fabulous food, very generous portions, filled sandwiches with proper bread and amazing pies, cooked sausages, pasta, etc. A nice bar to complement all this with great coffee and the service was top rate throughout. Couldn't wish for a nicer place, thank you.

It's about time we had a really good restaurant that isnt Italian! It's just what Westhoughton needed. Loved choosing from the butchers and the small plates couldn't fault a thing. Steaks were cooked to perfection great menu lots of choice. Lovely decor and atmosphere, service was great seeing as it was the opening week ! Best meal we've had in a good while. Will definitely be coming back regularly.

Visited Saturday night after being a few times for there amazing sandwichs we thought we'd give the new menu a try. Greeted straight away but the owner loads of info given about the how to order and about the butchers block. Shown to our table and was served by Joe who was very friendly and spent time talking to us instead of just asking what we wanted to order. We chose the butchers block which is a amazing idea to be able to see the meats and pick your size was brilliant. We chose the fillet and french fillet. We then took it to our table and they took it to cook. We went a bit over board on the sides but I wanted to try them all! Each would easily serve 2. We tried the pearl onions, roasted tomatoes, poutin potatoes, potato rosti and the croquettes. Everything was perfect the steak cooked to perfection it was the nicest fillet I've ever had. I couldn't manage a dessert which annoyed me! We will definitely be back and will definitely be booking for the Sunday platters that Joe told us all about I've got the date saved to book in for that as soon as I can.

Visited the new evening restaurant Home@Provenance for the first time this weekend. Wow! We were not disappointed - it was fantastic. The whole evening was perfect. Staff were excellent, just the right level of attention to our table. The atmosphere was good and we really enjoyed visiting Norvines wine 'cave' to choose our (excellent) bottle of wine to have with the meal. It was very quickly chilled to perfection. The butchers block is a great idea, as other reviewers have explained you can choose your own meat before it's cooked for you and it all looked fantastic. But we decided this time to have the Chateaubriand, which came with various sides. It was all absolutely delicious and there was plenty to eat. I was so full, I nearly skipped dessert. Nearly. I had the delicious moist chocolate brownie with ice cream, it was great. My partner raved about his - a Harwood's chocolate and whiskey bomb (sorry I can't remember the proper name). He doesn't usually rave about food, but he said this was probably the best dessert he has ever had (and he's had quite a few)! It was top quality. We have previously been regular visitors for Saturday lunch and love the new additions to the shop - sandwiches, breads, desserts, wines as well as the great butchers. So a visit for dinner was a no brainer for us. The restaurant is excellent, the additions of the butchers block experience, fantastic quality wines and award winning desserts makes this something really special. We can't recommend it enough. Can't wait to go back.

We visited the recently relaunched restaurant on the upper floor, having previously enjoyed the breakfast menu and as a regular visitor to the shop downstairs. We were warmly greeted by the team and had the concept explained to us; if dining from the butchers block, you head back downstairs and select your own meat from the display. Greedy and looking for more? No problem, they’ll happily prepare a larger cut. For starters we had the pork belly bites and tiger prawn & squid, both could not be faulted and packed with flavour. For mains, we chose the T-bone steak and pork loin, with shared sides including the fricasse and french beans. The meat cuts were cooked in the inka oven, which if you’ve had elsewhere you’ll recognise the distinct taste. We thoroughly enjoyed everything, and even managed to squeeze in a pistachio brownie and tiramisu to finish. The pricing and portion sizes were more than reasonable, especially given the quality. We’ll be going back again and urge locals not to miss out!

The concept of the Home restaurant is well explained by other recent contributors but the food is really, really good. Joe and Jamie (the butcher) are very professional and friendly. The beef steaks are great as were the lamb steaks. Of the sides, we loved the onion jewels. The House red is really tasty and excellent value. All top notch. So much so that we went again 3 days after our first visit.

Went tonight with friends and family ,it was fantastic, picked the meat from the meat counter,it was cooked perfectly, all the extras spot on ,will definitely be back ,totally recommend.

Great food, albeit too much of it for lunch. New owners are great. Really nice place for lunch and looking forward to restaurant opening. I had the club sandwich, which was enormous, my wife had roast beef sandwich which was also enormous. Takeaway and butchers on ground floor. Restaurants upstairs.

Great deli food hall/butchers with a wine shop upstairs. Small eat in cafe section, great local artisan food prodcts, my favorites are the bread/pastries from hive bakehouse. Tried the new sandwich counter for lunch today and they were fantastic, so tasty and good value for the size of them (big!).

Great sandwich surrounded by great delicatessen. Fabulous service. Very pleasant lady served us. Defo coming back. Would recommend.

An absolutely fantastic place to get your treats from. We travelled from Bury just to get some fantastic Harwood Patisserie desserts and whilst there, we also saw the gorgeous food available in the butchery. Highly recommended but parking nearby is limited. We managed to park on the main street for 40 minutes but did see the nearby Aldi supermarket has a big enough carpark and is easily within walking distance.

Random find, Hardwoods cakes sold here. Thought at first when the better half brought me a cake , that it was a joke (apple on a biscuit ! ) But no , it's an exquisite apple looking cake, which was awesome in the extreme. Apple crumble go and buy one ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Cafe on 1st floor no disabled access Bread and cakes available to take away, parking isn't great around the area. Advised making changes inside, we shall see.

Excellent food very friendly staff, excellent butchers down stairs quality meat also do great pies and super dooper cakes well worth a visit and price .

Fantastic store with lots of local delicacies, a Sandwich counter as well as Pizzas. The first time i got a sandwich from there the guy behind the counter said it would be the best sandwich I've ever had and he wasn't wrong. They're unbelievable. Made in their own rolls using 00 flour. It's not cheap but worth every penny. Would recommend the Steak onion and mushroom sandwich.

Our first time eating in the upstairs cafe last weekend. Ordered 2 full English breakfasts. Firstly we were kept waiting for over half an hour before food came out and then we were extremely disappointed after having read so many good reviews. The ambience of the place was quite nice and the staff lovely but it was greatly let down by the food. The sausage, bacon and black pudding were all extremely undercooked and we were quite scared to eat the sausage as it was raw inside. The mushrooms were sliced really thinly and appeared to have come out of a tin - cant be sure on that but definitely not fresh. It was all very over priced for mediocre (at best) food. Definitely sticking to Weatherspoons in future.

A very strange Frenchman brought his own cup from home and served me a coffee in it, saying "I might not have done it enough" when didn't fall ill, but then later giving pleurisy, then said "he wants me to do it again" when I revisited.

Really nice but the staff downstairs on the pie counter don't wear gloves and start to touch money and other things whilst touching the food. Cross contamination 🤢

When I first moved to Wethoughton the cafe was closed; just got back from working away for 5 months and noticed it was open so decided to try :) ladies are very welcoming, just had a sandwich and coffee, but noticed they have a bar, so wine next time!

Great cafe upstairs above butcher and delicatessen. Visited on Saturday 12th August. The breakfast was substantial and well cooked, we had the veggie breakfast. The coffee was good and I'm quite fussy. We also tried the loose leaf teas they had, which were excellent. Had the Earl Grey One, and there were several more on offer However the stand out was the friendly staff, 2 ladies working when we were there, about 11:30 to 1pm . I'm not from the area, was visiting a friend over the weekend, my experience was they were nice and helpful, friendly and engaging. Suggestions to the owner: look after the staff you have, hire more like them and keep up the quality of the food and this place will be a license to print money. Will be back on my next visit to Westhoughton.

Visited provenance upstairs cafe , heard the food was good , so decided to give this place a try , was very disappointed order 2 full English breakfasts , pancakes with streaky bacon , and fried egg on sourdough toast , everything was burnt bacon black pudding etc the pancakes looked like waffles and they were cremated , also the sourdough toast looked and tasted just like warburton thin crust bread , very disappointed considering it cost £40 , restaurant prices but nowhere near restaurant quality , Wetherspoons dish up a better breakfast for less than half the price .

We visited today for breakfast and was so disappointed. Hardly anyone in but waited 45 minutes. I had avocado and poached eggs on sourdough toast. The quality of the food was poor and tastless, eggs were also cold and the toast was soggy in parts. My daughter had a vegan breakfast which she said was OK but a little cold. The items were over priced, basic and took ages to arrive in a quiet restaurant. Sorry but I won't be back.

Excellent meat and made products like sausages and burgers etc, fair and competitive prices in line or below supermarket prices. Very clean premises and nice helpful staff.

Two sandwiches to go. Freshly sliced beef and fresh salad made while you wait. Took roughly 10 mins but worth waiting for. Competitively priced against a prepackaged option yet worlds apart in quality.

I came a couple of weeks ago with my friend and we were all blown away. The quality of the food was top notch. You can tell they use quality ingredients and not over priced. A member of our party has food intolerances and they catered for this no problem. Really don’t understand the negative reviews certainly not our experience

Best butchers in the area. The pre prepared dishes - courtesy of Karen-are excellent. The garlic and herb chicken kebabs are divine. Home cured bacon is excellent. Good selection of specialist marinades and sauces. The tomato based Mutti range is the best

Always a joy to shop here. Great cuts of quality meat , the butcher there will look after you and give you the best cuts of fillet. They have an excellent Greek olive oil and some other products you can’t buy from the supermarket. Selection of freshly made ready meals if your stuck for cooking ideas. I went in particularly for their Italian Mutti selection which is very good as I usually have to order in from Naples. Well done provencal.

This is the first time I have had to put a poor review on premises. Even where service is average, I put up with it. Very poor service today. Booked a table for 4, the staff (1) had no knowledge. Thankfully at the time it was quiet. Seated 1130am. One of our guest was gluten intolerant. So one egg Florentine was ordered gluten free, the other not. Two full breakfasts also ordered. One egg Florentine and full breakfast delivered 15 minutes later. I had to go and ask if the egg was gluten free since it was given to my wife with no explanation and she did not need gluten free, our guest did. It was gluten free. BOTH WERE COLD So essentially our guest who was gluten intolerant could have been given the wrong meal? No apology. I don’t think the staff cared or knew of the medical implications? My breakfast came out 10 minutes later, Cold/lukewarm at best, no knife/fork. I had to go and ask for some utensils again. THREE times I had to ask where my wife’s breakfast was. Turned up 15 minutes later, wrong item. By then, we had finished. When she got it, it was cold. In summary 5 times I had to go to the counter. Other people were also waiting, complainig. Food would have been nice if warm and on time. The serious ‘DANGEROUS’ thing would have been if our guest had been given a none gluten free breakfast? Today seemed chaotic? Poor service and no apologies. Either get more staff or reduce table service. More importantly train staff on how to safely ensure the wrong meals should not be given to people with allergies? Advice: If you are intolerant/allergic be very careful. I have been before, slow service but this is the last time I frequent this establishment.

My first visit to Westhoughton in years and pleasantly surprised to come across this nice deli/cafe. Nice selection of meats and breads in the deli. I went upstairs to the cafe and had an iced caramel latte and a plate of mixed cooked meats with cheese, bread and oils. I enjoyed but the sourdough could have been a little fresher. Pleasant eating area and nice staff

Best Meat Pies By Far , Stunning. !!!

We visited Today for lunch, waited 45 for a sandwich that didn’t arrive, asked for a refund waited ten minutes because she couldn’t find our receipt, asked us to wait another two minutes for food arrival, waited another five minutes and then left the establishment without food or refund, only one other table occupied they had waited longer than us for lunch, disgraceful service

Wonderful food and great service, upstairs and down. Food was great - Salmon Salad and a Ploughman's Lunch, and excellent coffees. Options available downstairs all looked fantastic - went for lamb chops and chicken wings to take home, as well as a couple of gift items. Will visit again!

Waited over half an hour for 2 nearly raw, lukewarm take away breakfasts. So much potential that place, poorly executed. Google won’t let me upload the photo.

Excellent experience. The cafe was warm and welcoming the staff were totally relaxed yet attentive and the food was well prepared and delicious. My friend doesn't like butter and it was no problem at all for the staff to get her some unbuttered bread. I haven't been here since pre Covid and really I'd say it was even better than then. Lovely place, lovely people will be going again x

Fantastic range of fresh produce.... Do be aware of over zealous traffic wardens who gave me a PCN when visiting the shop for no more than 5 minutes. I was parked 5 metres from the shop doorway and they must have watched me go in before they appeared.

This was our Friday visit for their pizza night, select a pizza on line or pickup a leaflet, book a slot and pick it up. Not a vast range but sufficient and what they serve has always been good. Give it a try. They may also have some deserts available!

Excellent shop, always use tge butchers. The meat is always of a high standard, very approachable and friendly.
