First and last time I will be using this place. The chips were pale and flacid and the fish! Were do I start! I asked for an extra large lightly battered fish. It was about 1cm thick. I took it back and asked for my money back and was told it was because it was lightly battered. Did I get my £10.20 back? Yes I did! I wasn't going to leave without it. Time to turn the building back to a public toilets. Sorry but I can't leave 0 so I will have to leave it 1. But it really is a 0.

Can't Believe I fell for this one Having visited the packet Bridge Chippy near Morecambe only to realise same owners and same poor quality and High prices. Again small fish but better fried than Packet bridge and chips just exactly the same as packet bridge not the best almost like rubber texture. Same annoying cardboard Box to separate fish and chips and I got the same grease stain on my T shirt where the oil seeped out of the gap in the box 😂 I have given the owner the opportunity to explain before leaving my review on for Packet bridge but I still to this day have not had a reply. I will have to be more careful in future because this is definitely twice bitten from 2 shops with same owners.

On holiday in ulverston staying in Lowflan Glamping pods. My boys wanted a chippy tea so we looked online and found this place. We had 2 × fish and chips and 2 × jumbo sausages and 2 curry sauces. Fish really nice. Best fish and chips we've had in a while. Boys happy with there sausage 😋 parking good around 8 spaces and it'd clean and tidy inside. Young lad on serving and he was really polite.would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting ulverston.

Usually good but last night very poor. I ordered on the app for delivery in 15 minutes. I got haddock and regular chips which had clearly been sitting there a while. Both almost cold and quite greasy, chips were undercooked and soggy and not even 1/2 normal portion size. Tartare sauce I ordered wasn't in the bag, went back in to be told there wasn't any and did I want a refund?! Will go to The Chippy Bank next time.

The various meals were very sub standard for eight family members and costing nearly £70. I would have expected much better from an establishment that is only a chip shop. After all they have no other distractions but fry properly, however this one trick pony fell at the first hurdle. The haddock size was pathetically small, the yorkshire fishcakes, the potato's were rock hard and raw on all three of them. All the battered items were very greasy and dripping in oil. Peas were cold and the gravy was very salty. I was very disappointed and would not recommend this “plaice” at all.

Ordered online and it seemed expensive. Ended up paying for extra chips we didn't want and extra tartare sauce we didn't get. The fish was tons of batter and very little fish and the chips were soggy. Very disappointed compared to my previous visit.

Complete rip off. First time back since reopening. Fish unbelievably small. Chips had been sat awhile, dry and tasteless. Curry sauce was ok though. Shame because this used to be really good before the change of hands. Guess the new owners are cost cutting at the expense of quality, which in the end will lose customers.

Disappointing chips- these were undercooked and we threw most of them out. Fish was reasonable but for the price they need to cook the chips.

Fish was good, however chips were stale and obviously reheated from left over lunch absolutely inedible. For the price we paid £36 for 2 fish, 2 jumbo sausages, 1 battered sausage, 3 large chips and 3 sauces the only things edible were the fish, sausages and sauces. Chips are a staple and for them to be that inedible is a crime at the price paid. Will not be going back will stick to chippy bank in the future

We had small fish, chips and side for £7.50. It was the best fish I've had in ages, the batter was delicious. I ate it all and don't usually. I had peas, hubby had curry sauce as our side. Peas were a bit runny. But it was very nice combo. Our portion was just right, but have regular if you're starving

This building used to be a Council toilet block. Then it was sold and renovated into a takeaway restaurant. The original Priory Plaice was a hot mess that closed in 2022. New, more experienced owners reopened it in 2023 using the same PP name. Unfortunately the new double pee is the same frowning service, undercooked chips, & poor sausage/fish as before. The only difference? It is more expensive! The Blonde and I gave the new owners several chances. This condenses three visits in one month into one review.

Clean, very busy and very good food. Prices are hard on the pocket but they do offer a lite bite option (small fish and chips with peas/curry or gravy).

We used to get fish suppers two or three times a year when staying at Bardsea leisure park, it’s close by. We always really looked forward to this treat as the fish suppers were excellent, tho in March it was closed due to what we thought were renovations, turns out it’s reopened with new ownership and we got fish suppers today. What a disappointment. The fish was tiny hidden but the fact batter was enormous. After chipping hard almost inedible batter away , the batter with actual fish in it was less than half the size, fish was well over cooked, dry and chewy, as well as tiny. That will be the last time ever, once stung, and at almost £10 a shot.

Parking available, staff friendly and quick despite a queue. Fish was fantastic. Chicken and mushroom pie not to my wife’s taste. Just a bit far to eat at home as they were Luke warm, but that’s not a reflection on what was served. Great to buy there and pop to Bardsea and eat on the beach.

This place used to be fantastic but has gone downhill since new owners. Ordered fish, chips and mushy peas twice, the peas were really runny, more like pea soup! The fish was dry and overcooked and the chips were greasy and underdone, total waste of money. It’s all handed over in a lovely box and fancy bag but the contents need improvement!

Stopped a few weeks ago for a portion of chips and my husband and I were very impressed. Chips were piping hot, crispy on the outside side but fluffy on the inside. Good quality potatoes must have been used. Not overly greasy at all. Stopped today on the way back from a walk and had a chippy tea for the family. Chips best we’ve had in ages. Husband had steak pie ( was supposed to be chicken) but was packed with steak. My son had the chicken pie and loved it. My daughter had the children’s chicken bites and I had the jumbo sausage. Definitely will return.

Priory plaice USED to be my favourite take away in ulverston. To say I was disappointed is an understatement! When I saw it was reopening I couldn’t wait to revisit, but I will not be returning. Me and my husband ordered fish and chips twice, fish were over cooked on the outside and soggy on the inside, and the chips were hard and extremely dry.

Hadn't had a decent fish and chips for a while so thought I'd give this a try as it's local and newly re-opened, wish I hadn't bothered , and definitely won't bother again . I don't eat a lot so debated if I should order a small or regular -- I opted for a regular (as dog will eat what I couldn't manage ) the fish was tiny (hate to see the small portion) , was very thin, bit of edible fish in the middle, both end were just batter with a bit of dried up fish stuck to it . Half the chips were hard , such a disappointment and waste of nearly £10 -- needless to say the dog enjoyed nearly all of it !!

Extremely poor value fish and chips ( £11.50 for 1x pensioner size and 2x cans of pop). The fish was about the size of a jumbo sausage and some of the chips were hard. The box was swimming in oil, some of which ended up on my wife’s dress ( just from carrying it to the car and it went all over the mat. They were average to taste. If I had collected them I would have refused to accept them. My advice would be to go into town and use the Chippy Bank or the Conti.

Not good food at all better off going to macdonalds up the road. Very quiet dirty floors, car park is filthy with rubbish everywhere, staff pleasant enough though.

We arrived in lovely sunshine but were disappointed to find that contrary to the impression given in the advertisement by Lakeland Retreats of sitting on your decking enjoying the sun there is no sun as the Lawns is surrounded by high trees making the interior constantly dark. You have to put the lights on for your breakfast and if you eat in later in the day then also. My partner decided to have a bath the first night but unfortunately contrary to the management company's assertion that there's a constant supply of hot water the hot water ran out and the water turned cold. This happened twice as it did to our neighbours in the adjoining Lakeland Retreats property. We normally have a cooked breakfast on a Sunday but we were appalled to find that the two frying pans supplied were pitted with rust and unusable. Finally as the season turned from summer to autumn the evenings got a little nippy. We tried to turn up the storage radiators but found that the controls are blocked by wooden brackets screwed over the radiators so you can't use them. A beautiful area but we won't be using Lakeland Retreats again if this is the standard they aspire to!

Great service compliments the menu which always has a Sunday roast dinner on Sundays. You need to book in advance to ensure of a table at your chosen time as there is nothing worse than being turned away and having to wait for a table.
