We had a lunch here for the first time, service was good when ordering, food arrived very quickly and was very hot.. the onion soup was delicious, my other half had mince and dumping, no complaints from him as the plate was cleared.... all in all a very pleasurable experience and well done to all the staff.. thank you

This pub looks lovely both outside and in. However it’s a real let down and could be a gold mine given it’s location if it was ran properly. Most of the staff lack personality and there is an odd atmosphere. The food leaves a lot to be desired. This pub needs a new team and chef pronto! It should be packed week in week out. There is an occasional band on but it’s not very well advertised so often a poor turn out. Bands every weekend and live football would be a great addition, as well as some friendly, outgoing staff. Despite living in walking distance we no longer visit and travel further afield for a much better experience. What a shame.

No food served after 7pm Internet said it has a pool table ... but it doesn't. Looks a decent size outside but get more than 20 people in and you can't move in the bar. Too noisy with locals shouting and cackling.

Having only gone for drinks we decided to grab some food. Never again, burnt pie and portion control gone nuts. Not worth mentioning the pie, if the cook can send it out then clearly they have no concept of good food. As for a portion of chips @ £3.90...., i have attached a photo...we never counted them but there was'nt 39 and therefore in excess of £0.10p A chip. We will not be eating there again.

Went here on Sunday for lunch and after being here a few times for Sunday luch we were so disappointed, they changed the menu and price, no fresh green vegetables just roasted root veg,many people prefer fresh green veg as roasted vegetables all taste the same,smaller portion than the previous times also and at£12.95 for 1 couse,a bit much,the barman was lovely and i spoke to him about it and he was very apologetic, feedback is very important where food is concerned and i don't usually complain but having had lovely food in the past i feel i must,such a lovely pub and lovely staff but the Sunday lunch a total let down

Second time eating food here 1st time was cheese and onion toastie which was cooked on one side 🤔 Second time round I got Southern fried chicken and wasn't even cooked in the middle. Shocking food

I had invited my friends to join me for a nice meal (I had only been once before) and was instead rudely spoken to by a blonde woman who worked both behind the bar and the tables. Apparently she felt the need to comment on my eating habits without any consideration to why it might be that way. Unfortunately it had tainted the evening and both my friends had agreed following this to never step place in this establishment again. (The man who worked behind the bar however was extremely lovely and I don’t wish to paint him with the same brush. Just a shame that we had to encounter that woman as it’s now ruined the place for me). At the end of the day, you expect a certain level of politeness when visiting an establishment and paying for the food. Atmosphere is a huge aspect of dining out and this experience was disappointing.

Refurb looks nice and nice area out of the front to sit. However staff still not particularly friendly sharp and rude, I was told i can't get a pint of coke, it comes in another glass which is smaller, although the price of it was still £2.30. Food nothing special bang average and alot of the TV's for the sport gone, which is a shame because the pub use to have a good atmosphere in there when big football matches were on, will be going somewhere else local for food and matches now!!

The food is rank it’s all frozen, the burgers are cheap really thought after the refurb they would of improved the meals but it’s manky such a shame because they really could make this special place by getting rid of frozen meals and hiring a proper chef, the chips are disgusting. Bar is beautiful inside and nice vibe but very quiet music sometimes feels ghost besides when they have band on and no football on in the bar anymore !!!!! which is such a let down as we have came to this pub for years and now they got rid of the football… got one screen advertising drinks? Really why did they get rid of football it was such an attraction, now it’s a bang average bar with cheap frozen meals to attract families who want to be in and out not spending a lot compared to us who come to watch the football spend a long for over 3 ours and then stop out all night. Also the older blonde lady who works there is miserable and rude, she makes me not want to return, she really thinks she is the owner and the way she speaks to customers she is in the wrong job. Improve the food and make it home cooked rather than rather frozen, bring the football back and sack the miserable staff then you have a real refurbished decent prior like the good old days.

Night out with girls for drinks and food tonight was our first time for ages! Wow! Amazing transformation to this pub. Staff so friendly and very helpful. Nothing was a bother to do for us. They had ran out of a few of the food items we wanted however the food we had was delicious and we will be back. Thanks so much to you all 👍

Made very welcome last night for an impromptu stop off at The Prior Sunderland while out walking the dog. Had lovely pub food and couple of drinks. Sat outside in the evening sun. Very nice and definitely recommend

Mark gives amazing service and they have neck oil on tap. Who needs to go through Newcastle for a decent pint anymore?

Went for our tea tonight and will definitely be back. Food was lovely and the service was great - Mark the new assistant manager was especially friendly and welcoming. Overall was very happy 😊

The New assistant manager is absolutely GREAT!!! First time me and the misses have eating inside somewhere since before lockdown 1, he made our night we have got 2 girls aged 10 and 7 a couple of coin and cards tricks to keep them entertained. He is a credit to the business 👍 he has only been there a month and as it’s on our door step we always say we will call in, we certainly will be calling back now Thank you

After being away for a while it was wonderful to walk back into The Prior. Being able to talk to staff and not rely on an app was fantastic. Food wonderful, staff great, beer wet. We will be back and we will bring others.

We had food on 31 July and it was okay, we went back again today 31st August and the food is poor. It's lovely sitting having a drink the staff are great but I'm sorry to say the food is farm food specials at best....

New menu fail Chick curry? Pud bowl of loverly rice upturned on the plate with two bits of chicken breast and covered in curry source. Not my idea of chicken curry. First and last for that. Nana bread, ok. ish.

Popped in with my partner over the weekend for food. The pub itself is clean and vibrant with a great atmosphere. The staff are attentive & friendly.The meal was gorgeous and great value for money. We had the mixed grill, the sausages and steak were delicious and so juicy! Great range of beverages too and particularly enjoyed the gin cocktails! Would definitely recommend this place to others.

football on the tv, great food, great beer, great company and a very warm welcome. free wifi and family friendly. importantly avoiding all of the trappings of those dier theme pubs that are void of atmosphere.

Popped in today for bite to eat hubby not hungry so I opted for a BLT in brown bloomer bread with side of onion rings. Everything perfect best homemade battered onion rings eva. Will definitely return to try the varied menu can't wait.

Visited today with family. 2 has the steak from the £5.00 menu and were very happy with their meals stating that the steaks were cooked to perfection. Surprisingly the meals were large which was more than we expected off the £5.00 menu. We all enjoyed...

Sundays dinners very good, and hot, service is very good, you do not have to wait too long before you get your meal, staff very curtisous

We went to the prior for food and got there at 5:20 and got our drinks, we the looked through the menu and went to the bar at 5:45 and waited 5 minutes to be served. We were then told by the person behind the bar at 5:50 they stop serving food at 5:45 and refused to take our food order. A woman said she went at 5:40 and was refused food too. Utter rubbish we finished our drinks and left!

Popped in with my wife for lunch as we were passing and we were very glad we did. Food was excellent and served quickly. Highly recommended

Came here to try it and will definitely be returning. Staff were friendly and prices are very reasonable! Me and my partner got "2 Courses for £6.95" I had Nachos to start which was more than enough for one person so we shared. As mains, we got Cajun Chicken and Sausage and Mash. Was quite nice although the Mash was Instant Mash, but can't complain for the price! My partner thoroughly enjoyed her dessert of Chocolate Cake and Ice cream. Would recommend!

Decided to call in the pub as we were passing. The food is proper pub food and the portions are a good size. Food was excellent. The fresh chips were cooked just right and were a lovely golden brown colour. The fish was cod, not always the case in some pubs and the batter was crispy. I had one of the burgers and it was lovely. The pub is clean and tidy and smelt fresh and the staff were busy but very pleasant - we will be calling again.

I love The Prior as it is my local pub and the staff are so friendly, but it really bugs me that the chef just can't cook chips! They are a lovely golden brown, but rock hard potato inside! I even ordered sweet potato chips last time, but they were hard too! I don't understand how they look so tasty, but can be so underdone?? They are advertised as 'twice cooked' when they aren't even cooked once haha! I have told Pete (the manager) so many times and now I just don't eat there, which is a real shame! I still pop in for a cheeky wine now and again tho as the pub itself has a warm and friendly atmosphere

We ve moved near here and decided to pop in with family after a christening. .glad we did...lovely friendly pub..staff are a credit to the place,very welcoming..food is lovely and so reasonable...food is served quickly and piping hot and the place is spotless.. we enjoyed it so much we ve been back 3 days running...well it is bank holiday!!! :)

My wife and me decided to pop out for our tea and thought we'd go to the Prior. I ordered a beef burger called "Chill Chill Bang Bang" and my wife ordered fish and chips. Arrived quick, hot and really tasty. Cost just under £20 for a superb pint and a half of Coors light and food. Thank you Prior. A good little gem!!!

Very average pub food. Quality of food is poor. Everything appears to be frozen and pre prepared by outside companies. On the plus side; the chips are home made.

We decided after all not to eat here as it looks a little scruffy and has most definitely seen better days. As you walk in from the car park you see the garden of cigarette ends next to the loose decking and badly painted exterior. The first seat we spotted had the fabric peeling from it. The interior looks very sad, in the end we had one drink and ate elsewhere.

Two course for £6.95. Great simply pub food that does what it says on the tin, and doesn't break the bank. Not a lot more I can say. Well worth a visit.

as pub grub goes, this is one of the better places to go! There is a decent selection on the menu and I must recommend the 'Meadow Burger' if you are looking for a vegetarian dish... burger is tasty and it comes with thick cut, crispy battered onion rings. Yum! The chips are lush.. twice cooked and tasty. The drinks are very reasonably priced and they also do deals too. The staff can not do enough to help. I made enquiries about gluten free foods on the menu and the manager came straight over and went through the menu. He even suggested that is we wanted gluten free Sunday lunch then just to call him the day before so that he could make sure to have some gluten free gravy prepared too! Nice!

I agree with the previous reviews - decent food at a very reasonable price. Veggie burger was enjoyed by the other half - my meal was extremely tasty and I thought overall it offered very good value for money. No airs or graces just good pub grub well done thanks will be back - recommended.

Drop in for a quick bite to eat before meeting up with someone in the pub. They do a deal before 8.00pm which offered extremely good value, also they have a low calorie option which I choose. The chips here are awesome and the meals were top notch too. It is what it is no airs or graces a local pub doing pretty typical pub food but doing it well at a decent price too. By the way the veggie burger my wife had was one of the best she has ever had, awesome.

Visited here one occasion and was pleaseantly surprised! Food was lovely and reasonably priced I got the burger and the onion rings were lovely and home made. Would visit again!

My husband and I often visit here, cosy pub good food and choice and it is delicious! only negative is last time we came they had no home made chips left had to make to with frozen ones! But always good food nevertheless

Visited for lunch with a friend. I was very impressed with speed of service, quality of the meal and value for money. The portions are a decent size,well presented and nicely cooked. Staff were pleasant.Drinks were reasonably priced too.Overall, a good and enjoyable meal. Will definitely return soon.

Went today with my husband and parents for Mother's Day lunch. The staff are so friendly and welcoming and nothing is a bother. They're so aware of everything that's going on at all times, my husband dropped his cutlery and within moments he was brought fresh ones without needing to ask. The food is always top notch, my Mam & I both got Sunday lunch, my Dad the mixed grill and husband chicken noodles. Great quality, tasty and value for money. Had just enough room for dessert and were delighted to receive the ladies desserts for free to celebrate the occasion! Had such a lovely and relaxing time, and have decided we will be making a regular thing of it now with all the family.

The Prior also known as The Colonel, Was here 12/3/2015, Having been a couple of times before knew what to expect hence the return visits!! Today the service was as always good, the food quality very good as well as the good value for money. Today the menu choice was limited due to new menus being introduced next week, but this did not diminish the choices available. The pub/restaurant is nicely decorated and furnished with comfortable bucket type seats. There is ample car parking outside, as well as an outside eating area.

Went to the prior pub/restaurant for our granddaughters 18th birthday today(11th march)at doxford park.\enjoyed chicken and spare ribs,husband had all day breakfast.lovely meals very good size portions.The desserts were delicious,really enjoyed the waffle with caramel sauce.Thankyou to the friendly staff who took time to talk to our great grandson Riley,11 months old.

Have not been to the prior for a number of years went on Monday with family on a friends recommendation and was not disappointed lovely surroundings friendly staff and the food was good my starter of potatoes skins cheese and bacon was big enough for a main meal the rest of our food was excellent will be returning soon

visited here for the 1st time with my wife on a friends recommendation & I am glad we did. The food was excellent, I had 8oz Steak & HOMECOOKED chips which was fantastic and only £6.95 & my wife had the Chicken & Bacon Salad - she loved it and what made it better was that the chicken was fresh, we saw the butcher delivering it before we ordered!!!!!!!!!!! The staff were excellent & made us feel welcome & the decor of the pub was lovely - 5 stars

popped in the prior on the off chance as we were seeing relatives within the area. the food was excellent we both ordered the rump steak and they were the best steaks we have had in a long time. the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. i would recommend everyone the visit.

It was quiet when I went, service was great, we had the deal that was on two meals and a desert for so much well worth the money very clean restaurant and would definitely go back

This pub belongs to Wear Inns,serves excellent food,and good value.BUT I am amazed that no childrens portions or childrens menu are available.Surely every pub/restaurant want to attract as much business as they can.As a family of six,we will not be calling again,which is such a shame as the refurb and staff are very nice....
